Incredibly Information-Dense but Clear
I picked this book up as an impulse buy the last time I went book browsing in the physical world.It was one of the better purchases I made that day;I've been so impressed that I came here to search for more books by thesame author. Just Buy It
This is one of the very, very few Java books on the market that will give you any new insight into using the language. In a very small space, it provides an amazing amount of detail - at both the low implementation leveland the higharchitectural level. The chapters on memory and speedoptimization alone make it worth the price. This book manages to say a lotwith very few words. It runs completely against the grain of all the wordy,useless, and incorrect Java books out there, and every serious Javaprogrammer should own it.

Encyclopedia of Survival Techniques by Stillwell
The work provides a plethora of survival techniques to be employed in hostile natural settings. i.e. deserts, moist zones and frigid
He Needed an Editor
This book is pretty bad. For one thing, while the pictures are interesting (pictures always are) they are incomplete, not showing the details one would need to understand how to implement them. Examples like, on the snares, the trip mechanisms are just impossible to see and he doesn't explain them well. Put it this way...if you were lost and had this book with you, you'd starve, freeze to death, or dehydrat by the time you figured out what he was trying to tell you.
not an encyclopedia
If the author thinks because he includes every climate zone and briefly touches each subject makes his book an encyclopedia he is dead wrong. The information is very basic at best but includes nice drawings. Reading the section on primitive firemaking for example I doubt the author ever did it by himself (I did). He mentioned a lot offriction methods but omitted (as usual) the important details for success. If you want a real encyclopedia John Wiseman's SAS Survival Book would be a better choice. ... A fine and inspiring book
I'm moved to add my positive review after noticing the negative one by S Hadley.
Seems like a rough-draft with missing pages/chapters
The message of this book is simple: if you want to run better, simply run like Haile Gebr. Of course, there's no hint as to how to run like Gebr, but there are pretty pictures and oodles of "ideas" which totally lack any sort of flesh. The book is sporadic, repetitive and offers no useful examples. The concept of a new, almost holistic approach to running is interesting, but almost completely unexplored after the introduction.

Essential reading for anyone seeking self improvement
A real eye opener. I read this book thinking it had something to do with posture as I suffer with backache from sitting in front of a computer all day. I was wrong. This is about a new way of living your life by releasing the tensions, both physical and mental that we have accumulated throughout our lives. The amazing thing is that you don't have to do anything, rather learn to undo. Waste of time
If you're in the same industry as me don't waste your time buying or reading this book! If you're in another idustry, state or country it will be the most valuble knowledge you will ever gain.

Useful But Takes Work
This book provides a framework for negotiation.It seems to be in line with the Harvard "Getting to Yes" model.The implementation requires some effot, but seems to reflect the latest thinking on the subject.I highly recommend this book for anybody who wishes to negotiate from a framework rather than winging it.Some of the material is obscure and somewhat mechanical in the interaction process it describes.But with effort, it can be incorporated into your business knowledge. ... Very nice job!
Rickover has succeeded where others have failed in making the essential ideas of the Alexander Technique available in clear, everyday language. Short and to the point.
A concise introduction to Alexander's ideas and to his Technique. One of the best resources for new students.
As some of the other reviewers have mentioned, this book does not attempt to "teach the Alexander Technique" - which is probably just as well since I doubt it can be taught from a book.You really need a trained teacher.Read more

The Book Of Choice For Students and Dreamers
Like many young men, and I daresay women, I was drawn to airport management after exposure to Burt Lamcaster's sterling portrayal of a harried airport manager in the Ross Hunter classic AIRPORT.Lancaster showed us that a man could handle a million problems all at once, if he had the right combination of grit and gray cells.It wasn't only the glamor, it was the idea of helping people get through their day--even when the people in question were six or seven miles up in the air--that made me consider airport management as a major at school.

A book full of wisdom & common sense about the Technique.
This is my very favourite Alexander Technique book--I refer back to it over and over again! Thinking Aloud captures Walter Carrington's intelligent charm.Walter's many years of teaching the Technique &personal relationship with the late F.M. Alexander have given him a wealthof information and experience which he shares in own wonderfully uniquestyle.

A rare book that stimulates new thinking
This is a thought-provoking book full of insights, every page a gem. This is not an introduction to the Alexander Technique, but for those with some experience and for the rare individual with no Alexander Techniquebackground.

A terrific review for the ABSITE
I read this book and my in-training exam score went up by over sixty points. It's not exactly a quick read at over 500 pages, but it's very readable and it contains all the information covered in the ABSITE exam.I highly recommend it as a review book for surgery residents looking to improve their scores.
