5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book for motivation but actually learned something
I bought a copy of Beyond Brawn from McRoberts and was hesitant to buy this book because of the writing style and extreme abbreviated routines promoted. This book recommends excercises I can accomplish and get results.
4-0 out of 5 stars Logical Extension of T-A-P
I've read and enjoyed several of Lou's other books, I like his style of writing and find his work entertaining and informative. This book, to me, is the logical successor to his popular Testosterone Advantage plan. The diet advice and planing is similar but updated, and the exercise plans follow a similar periodization scheme.Fat loss circuit, Hypertrophy, and low reps for strength. While there is a break in routine, I would not recommend this book to some one who has not worked out regularly for at least six months. But for some one looking to move from beginner to intermediate, or an intermediate looking for a change of pace, this would be an outstanding resource.

5-0 out of 5 stars Women please read as well!
I know this book doesn't really address women too much, but it is highly reccomended that we read it.If you are tired of reading books to gain muscle and strength that show the fitness models with 1 and 3lb weights, this is the book to get.

5-0 out of 5 stars An In-Depth Review for those for who need convincing
Often times I find it hard to determine whether a health/fitness book is worth my time and money just by the synopsis and the few anecdotes you'll find on its Amazon page.Essentially, all health and fitness books claim to do the same thing. If you're anything like me and you'd like to hear what distinguishes a fitness book from other books in this crowded field of promises, please read on.If you have a short attention span and would like the Cliffs Notes version--buy this book!Let's continue...
5-0 out of 5 stars A life changing book!
Every once in a while a book comes along that is life changing. In my opinion, "The Metabolism Advantage" is one of those books. Dr. Berardi has successfully taken the best information fromhis"Precision Nutrition" program (www.precisionnutrition.com), his eBook "Gourmet Nutrition",and his book "Scrawny to Brawny", and put it all together in an easy to follow guide on how to speed up your metabolism; fantastic! "The Metabolism Advantage" is a complete nutrition, exercise, and supplement guide that equips anyone who is willing to apply Dr. Berardi's principles, with the tools to burn more calories, build muscle, and improve their health and well being. You own it to yourself to get this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars John Berardi is the Advantage of The Metabolism Advantage
John Berardi's "The Metabolism Advantage" is a home run. I speak from first hand experience of John's teachings through his published articles, website, DVDS and now this brand new book.

Editorial Review

"We have been trying to feed our hurting, longing hearts with physical food," writes Gwen Shamblin, registered dietician and founder of the Weigh Down program, which emphasizes "God's power--not 'will power.'" This book offers instruction on how to eat only when physically hungry, how to "nourish the soul with a relationship with God," and how not to confuse different hunger urges. The diet plan teaches you not to overeat by letting you eat exactly what you want, but much less of it. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Appetite control book
This book is all about controlling your appetite. Stop eating when you are full. This book is written from a Christian perspective with also recommends prayer and diet as part of your spriritual life. The author recommends eating only the best part of your meal and leave what you do not want on your plate. The most important principle of all this book teaches is STOP EATING WHEN YOU ARE FULL. This one principle alone boils down what has caused our obesity epedemic in this country, not knowing what it feels like to be full. The author teaches you what hunger feels like and how to use it to guide you eating. This is a huge part of the weight loss puzzle, I would also recommend the following that taught me how to lose 60 pounds and keep it off:
1-0 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware -- Wolf in Sheep's Clothing
If it were possible to give an author zero stars, I would have. This book is seriously flawed for two reasons:
1-0 out of 5 stars BEWARE
I was doing the new change series and felt something wasn't right.Found out on the internet it's a cult all the way. This book is the mildest of all her teachings.Let me tell you if you don't do it her way you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. It's all so subtle when you sit there week after week and watch the dvd's it's all about her and her son and so subtle Remnant Fellowship the only called out ones. You'd better get in the arch or you are not the true followers of the Lord.Well Gwen we are saved by Grace through faith,it's a gift from God,not of works so no one can boast! That's all she does is boast how sinless or tries to be sinless she is and her perfect Remnant.I have been talking to several people that she has judge and judged hard and it makes me sick! Just look up on the internet type in Gwen Shamblin and you will judge for yourself what this Weighdown teaching is all about.Judge not least you be judge and why do you look at the speak in your brothers eye when all the time you have a log in your own eye?I never heard anything about God's Grace it's all twisted scripture. There's fruit all right in these peoples lives well other cults have fruit too! And the really overweight people if they are totally honest with you they starved themselves to get the rest of their weight off.JUST BEWARE!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good, thorough treatment of an integrated approach to caring for the body
I found this book well organized. It contains some introductory material followed by a thorough section on self testing one's body and relevent behaviours. Then it follows up with a combination of strengthening, flexibility and related exercises that borrow from weight training, yoga, physical therapy and bodywork modalities to allow an individual to make rational choices about caring for her or his body. I am recommending it to friends and clients because it really has a lot of good, solid information in it that holds real value for them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally, a book aimed at MAXIMIZING fitness while saving JOINTS
I've seen more and more people drop away from their usual exercise programs as they enter mid-life, discouraged by joint pain, injuries and repetitive stress fractures. After a recommendation from a friend, I got this book and passed it on to other friends. It was written by an orthopedic surgeon who has worked with famous football players as well as ballet dancers. In other words, he knows how to keep just about anyone in peak form, in spite of whatever toil one's exercise or workout regime takes on the body.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best guide to complimentary cross- training I've found
Runners, bikers, swimmers, and other exercise buffs (I'm a runner) need serious guidance about injury prevention and alternate physiological improvement. I find this to be great guidance, not from an amateur enthusiast, but from an MD who has seriously taken on the problem, even beyond sports medicine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic !
This book allowed me to see sport differently than "suffer and pain" ! Thanks to Amazin Lethi, it is easy to feel joy and satisfaction about it ! Buy it ASAP !!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Relief for an older, tired body - Thank YOU!!!
The exercises in Amazin's Total Strength Training for Women has allowed me to rejuvenate my body strength, tone weakened muscles in my arms and legs, and rebuild muscle loss due to my age (64). She has shown me that age is not really a factor when attempting to strengthen muscles - something I had resigned myself to upon reaching seniority. Her anatomical reproductions are excellent and they allowed me to target areas of my body that were weak or painful with equally excellent results. I look forward to her next book on Home Training. Her techniques have inspired me to set up a gym at home and continue to excercise. Thank you, Amazin ... there is an entire world of senior age women who can benefit from your book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Men do it too
Thank you Amazin Lethi for this fantastic oeuvre. Despite being of the opposite gender from the focus of the book I found it wonderfully useful for my own workout.

5-0 out of 5 stars best ky book i've come across
this book explains ky thoroughly and is very simple to understand. i highly recommend it!

5-0 out of 5 stars A very good reference and practice book
This book is very good for reference of Kundalini Tantra subject. As we see with al books of Bihar School of Yoga, it also includes some practices that can be done also, it is not only a book of theory but gives direct and clear explanations about how-to's. But a yoga beginner will possibly find the book a bit complicated because of the terminology and practice types.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource, but you need an experienced teacher
This book is an excellent resource for experienced yoga practitioners. Beginners would be confused, and beginners shouldn't be attempting to raise their kundalini. Everyone attempting to do such should be studying under a teacher or guru who has experienced a kundalini awakening (which are few and far between) and knows how to help you. If you want to know the ins and outs, and know what kinds of questions to ask your teacher/guru, than I highly recommend this text. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars disappointing for beginner
I had read all the rave reviews so was disappointed by my own experience.I am a new-comer to multisport competition.I found this book to be too much theory and not enough practicality; what was practical was presented in an incohesive way.I could see this being good for the serious triathlete, but for me, I found better use out of Eric Harr's book and on the internet.

5-0 out of 5 stars Like reading a scientific paper
This book went above and beyond everything that I expected. The author gives references for virtually every point that he makes. He is clear about his standpoint when it comes to a lot of issues, such as POSE running, and explains his reasoning.
5-0 out of 5 stars Good for someone wanting to progress
This is the only pure triathlon book I own, so I can't compare, but it answered 95% of the questions I had about how I go about improving from being a bunch finisher. The other 5%, well I suppose the author has to draw the line on detail somewhere. For example, the section on swimming skills is a 3-4 page summary of the total immersion swimming book.

5-0 out of 5 stars I definitely agree with the other reviews on this cd!
Everything that everyone has said is definitely true. This cd is teaching me a new way of approaching the world that I never would have thought possible. Even when I'm not listening to the cd, whenever I am in a really stressful situation like sitting in traffic or working to meet deadlines, I just imagine the cd. I automatically feel completely relaxed, like I can deal with whatever comes my way. Then when I get home I just pop the cd in, let go of all the day's stresses, and just get back in touch with myself. I bought this cd after reading the reviews, too, and I wasn't led astray! I recommend this to anyone who deals with stress on a daily basis (which is pretty much anyone), and I am going to get copies for all of my family members and friends because I definitely have some friends who need to chill out. Buy it, you won't be disappointed!

5-0 out of 5 stars R & R
A friend reccomended Yoga Nidra to me after I was complaining about always feeling tired and overwhelmed.I think alot of people deal with the same problem everyday. With three kids, a husband, and as the principal of a highschool it is so difficult to turn your mind off and realx.Even when I had a rare minute to relax I wasn't able to utilize it because my mind was always running.I went ahead and tried Yoga Nidra. It took a few times to really get into it but now I love it.I do it a few times a week before work and I can definitely feel the difference.I feel more alert at work and I think it has helped my patience with the kids at home and at school.I feel like I am more energized and it has helped me to be able to just do my day better.

5-0 out of 5 stars New Level of Awareness
A coworker referred me to this CD.Thank you Larry.I don't drink, smoke or do drugs. This guide has helped me successfully work through emotional issues that have clouded my happiness.Funny, every time I listen to the CD it is like a different first time experience. It has helped me to open up and put my energies of love and sorrow "out there".They have come back to me 10 fold in only positive ways.Best wishes to all. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Thorough, but not an everyday "users guide" to fats & oils
Enig's discussion is thorough, and a necessary correction to the nutrition science and food industy's deceptions concerning fats and cholesterol, all in the service of marketing transfat-laden food. However, the book is not that "user-friendly" for the non-scienfically-inclined, who are concerned about eating and health.
5-0 out of 5 stars Know Your Fats, EAT Your Fats
This is a great source of information on fats and oils, and even though I also have "Nourishing Traditions" and "Eat Fat, Lose Fat," I still felt that I learned something new. My health certainly has improved since I've incorporated more saturated fat in my diet.

5-0 out of 5 stars The most *essential* book on the nature of fats by a true scientist
Ignore the anonymous "reader"'s review titled "Disappointing." Anonymous reviews immediately create a suspect impression. For all anyone might know, the "reader" could be a well-known other "author" of a popular book on fats. The "reader" in his review does not come up with a cohesive enough overview on why Dr. Enig's book is "disappointing." He complains of issues that has nothing to do with Dr. Enig's research as a scientist, how the chemical structures and patterns of fatty acids *and* most importantly, how they work in the human body. He does not prove in any way of how Dr. Enig's knowledge of lipid chemistry fails. His assertion that the fatty acids in animal fat has changed from 100 years ago is a no-brainer and a plainly dumb arguing point: of course the quality of the fatty acids have changed, because most of the way animals are raised today is so different from how they were 100 years ago: conditions, feeding, and treatment. The only way one may compare a cow from 100 years ago is to raise them on pastures, in organic methods. It is a self-evident factor that we should only be eating animals raised naturally, out of warehouses, without synthetic injections.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE physical fitness book for EVERYONE!
I was athletic growing up.I played soccer from 2nd grade to the end of high school.I was in good shape and could run, but didn't have a lot of focus on my upper body. When I married, I settled into the lethargic married lifestyle and left my athleticism behind. When my wife became pregnant with our child, I decided to work out and be something my child would be proud of.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Program
This is a fantastic program for sculpting the entire body using no special equipment other than a pull-up bar.Well illustrated with high quality photos and clear, well-written text, this book sets forth a thorough set of exercises for each section of the body and includes a workable, real-world dietary program.Mr. Peterson has taken the concepts of the Atlas course, modernized them, explained them in greater detail, and illustrated each in a manner that leaves no confusion as to form. The only glitch in the book is Mr. Peterson's apparent idolization of Matt Furey by placing Furey in the "Heroes" section of the book along with such veritable icons as Earle Liedermann, Charles Atlas, Herschel Walker, and Rocky Marciano, each a champion of bodyweight strength training.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!!!

It taught me a lot of things, from why I should not be lifting heavy things first thing in the morning to what is the proper way to sneeze (looking up). Posture is extremely important. The pain will surely come back if the posture is not corrected, no matter how many exercises you do all these things was necessary for me to learn from this book.Read the book and learn from the advice about good posture etc,.So the book really helps me, and I completely recommend it.

This is a very informative book.I purchased it to become more familiar with the scientific aspects of Yoga Nidra, and to help me facilitate a class that I am interested in teaching.

5-0 out of 5 stars review from greek student
A very good book by Paramahamsa Satyananda about the method he invented (as far as I know ) , himself ! There is an audio cassette you can buy separately, and practice Yoga Nidra. For me it is the most beneficial practice in our lives !

5-0 out of 5 stars The Art of Relaxation at its Best
This book is a treasure trove of information; very readable presentation with great insight on medical and yogic issues related to this ancient practice. Yoga Nidra is more than relaxation, it is a way to access the deepest levels of the Self through the progressive suspension of distractions. It leads the individual through progressive relaxation, visualization, affirmation, and insight. Its practice synchronices the hemispheres of the brain by utilizing sound as the means of guidance. The Monroe Institute uses the same principles in its Gateway Program which uses "Hemisync" to lead the individual through progressive relaxation, affirmation, visualization by means of specific sound frequencies. If you think you may be interested in consciousness exploration give this book a try. No dangerous effects..at worst you fall asleep. This book offers an excellent practice that yields results! Great buy at any price. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Useful Knowledge for Strength, Conditioning, and Lifelong Health
Used to train prospective strength and conditioning coaches for the NSCA CSCS exam, this book can also help anyone build a strong foundation of knowledge about how exercise improves the human body. Not just an exercise physiology text, this book includes gems like the classic Stone and Bryant periodized model of weight training (the three-phase progression from high-volume hypertrophy training to high-load strength training); the demystification of big lifts like the clean and press, the power pull, or the snatch; how heavy power training selectively thickens Type II muscle fibers; sports psychology and metabolic training; how the lower body is often undertrained; a more intelligent way to use progress strength training with DAPRE; and an unparalleled discussion on plyometrics. This book anchors its thought-provoking and definitive discussion with relevant references, helpfully cited in context so you can clearly see for yourself at the scientific evidence upon which this book--and much current knowledge in exercise science--is based. The treasures of this book must be extracted at the cost of dry science-speak writing (nouny, overuse of the verb "to be," and heavy reliance on the passive voice): as I read along, I found that selectively underlining and briefly restating key ideas in the margins of this text kept my attention. Not only personal trainers in training but consumers tired of glib books lacking citation of scientific evidence would find this book extremely useful, and certainly more accurate than many consumer fitness books currently on the market.

5-0 out of 5 stars all you need for the CSCS exam!
like kent_mc2 this is all you need for the CSCS exam. This and the Exam Content Descriptions. Do all the questions in each chapter and read the chapters that you are weak on and skim the chapters you feel strong in. Use the chapter questions to see if you need to go over the chapter again. This can be done in a few days if you have some kind of science or exercise science background or other PTtraining. Some of the basic sciences at the beginning can be a bit intimidating if you did not take basic sciences in college, but only a small percentage of the exam is basic sciences. I keep this book as a reference now.

5-0 out of 5 stars Essentially the Essentials
The essentials is just what it states - it covers the essentials! It is not the last word on everything written for everyone. It is primarily a teaching reference. This is a reference that has the research and science behind it to back up the statements.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not for me thanks--a very incomplete, unsatisfying program
Let me first say that I've done this program several times over the past few years, and stayed on it each time for at least 6 months. It did not do much for me. My physique did not change, nor did the way i felt. I'm in good shape anyway, but I certainly did not build muscle mass. As far as strength goes, there's no possible way to test whether these exercises really build strength or not. I suppose you could subjectively say whether you felt stronger doing day to day activities, or test yourself with weights but neither of those is optimal.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fast tone up, low price, and all you need to keep fit.
I am just doing the 7 tiger exercises now, but there are 6 other exercise groups in the book.I bought 3 more books for my kids and grandkids, because these exercises work. Also, you can do them anywhere, as no equipment is needed.Joe

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Exercise Book I Have Ever Purchased
This book is full of wonderful information and exercises that will change your way of living.I have been using the "Tiger Moves" ( 7 exercises that will change the shape of your body) for about two weeks now and have noticed a difference in my physique. There are workouts included for specific areas and I have tried them, and believe me they are challenging at the beginning, but the end result is worth it. You are working muscle against muscle and no expensive equipment is needed.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not for a typical student
This book might serve the purpose of an athlete, but may not be good for a typical student or non-student.5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent textbook
I highly recommended "Nutrition for Health, Fitness and Sport" to exercise science and nutrition students. Its comprehesive yet not too technical. 5-0 out of 5 stars Tons of information that you can understand and apply

5-0 out of 5 stars This Works!!
This diet changed my life! I didn't need to lose a lot of weight, but could never get to my 'ideal' weight from college. I lost 8 lb in 8 weeks and feel like a teenager. I simply followed the principles in the book - I did not weigh and measure everything - I cheated and had pizza and dessert once a week or so, and still lost the weight! I am getting this book for my mother, my aunt, my friend who is trying to lose 10 lb after having a baby, it's great!
4-0 out of 5 stars A very worthwhile study.
The Zone introduces the concept that it is best to eat our calories in the ratio of 40% carbohydrates, 30% protein and 30% fat.It is also called the 1-2-3 diet because for each gram of fat, two grams of protein
