The Bible for Weight Loss Surgery Patients
This book is amazing.If you have had recent weight loss surgery or if you are thinking about having it, you must read this book.Paula outlines everything you could ever imagine and answers the questions that we all have about weight loss surgery. After reading this book there is no doubt in my mind that I am going to have the weight loss surgery.In the book Paula gave me the courage to want a better and new life for myself.

This book was a life saver for me
Being aware that my surgery would be life altering, I was nervous about how to proceed with the rest of my life post-operation. Paula Peck's book was written with such care, concern and intelligence that upon turning the final page I realized my anxiety had completely left me and that I literally held a blue-print for success in my hands. Thank goodness for Paula's sensitivity, charm and wit. This is a honest guide to living and coping after weight-loss surgery - and who knew? A funny one too! Kudos for this book.

You've got to read this book!
I received this book as a gift. There are quite a few books on this subject on the market and this one is the best. I too could not put it down and finished it in 3 days. It's a huge book, a great resource that is well researched and written.. I have a few friends who've purchased this book and really loved it too. I can highly recommend this book.
This food is fabulous!
My husband had bariatric surgery in June.When we arrived at the solid food stage, I was in a panic as to what to cook.Moist low fat and tasty food was quite an order.

I purchased this book months before my surgery.Once I had my surgery in June, I started going through the book and picking out the recipes that I could have as soon as could eat.This book actually gives you suggestions as to whether or not you should try the recipe depending on what week you are in as well as breakdown of 3 kinds of surgery. I have tried about 20 of the recipes and have loved each of them. I have learned so much from this book.I hope that someone somewhere puts out another cookbook for us post-ops.BTW at 11 weeks post-op I am 100 lbs. down. ... Read more

You've got to read this book!
I received this book as a gift. There are quite a few books on this subject on the market and this one is the best. I too could not put it down and finished it in 3 days. This book wasn't that terrible, but...
It wasn't very good, either. The gist of the book is this:

I can't say any other adjective for the book, other than it's nice. It seems sugar coated to me, because obviously she has suffered more than she leads on. OK, i see that the results are fantastic, but still, i just can't believe everything she says. But I hope that's exactly what she went through, because it's very motivating. (I think, because for those people who didn't lose as much weight, it can be pretty stressful) As for the recipes, I didn't try them yet, but other than that I think it's good resource. But not for the Gastric Banding! Only for Gastric Bypass. Though some suggestions may apply to both. ... Read more

Another good book in need of a copyeditor
If you're already familiar with the terms 'lateral' and 'medial', then you'll know that "Latoral joint Compartment" in figure 2-1A&B on p. 29 is probably not what they meant, especially since it's across from the "Medial joint Compartment" in the same illustration.And then again on p. 31 in figure 2-3A&B there is the "Later Menicus" [Lateral Meniscus] across from the "Medial Meniscus"
Heal Your Knees
I bought this book because I have a damaged miniscus in my knee.This book allowed me to understand what exactly went wrong with my knee.It enabled me to understand my surgeon when he explained my options.It is a good value and well worth the asking price.

Total Knee Replacement & Rehabilitation: The Knee Owner's Manual
My only regret is not having access to this book soon enough.I can certainly see it would also prepare a person for the surgery in many ways.I felt it was presented as clear information.Think it helped that one of the authors had actually had this surgery.I referred to the text whenever I had a question or needed some help in dealing with a certain problem.It was almost like having a doctor or physical therapist at my finger tips.

The Bible for knee replacements
This book has become my only reference book.I read it before my knee replacement as I contemplated having it done.Now that the surgery is done I use it as a reference book.My therapist was very impressed by it too!!This is a book all patients considering or have had a knee replacement must read.

Very Helpful Information

Well written good book for those new to hip
In this book you will find both information regarding the anatomy of the hip and its disorders, and important guidelines
Save your money!

the best book for cosmetic breast surgery information
I bought all the books on cosmetic breast surgery, while researching my desire to have my breast lifted and enlarged, this book is by far the best, most informative and well- written. I also went on several consultations with different doctors and Dr. Freund was the most helpful and comforting physicians. His knowledge made me confident and the results were better than i hoped for. P.S. I travelled from North Carolina to see him and it was worth the trip.

Concise, Excellent Information
I have been considering a breast reduction for years. This book answered all of my questions so thoroughly that I almost didn't have any left for my plastic surgeon. My surgery went very well, and I am pleased with the outcome. Thanks for writing such a clear and informative book that answers the many questions women have concerning breast surgery.

Definitely a must read for those considering plastic surgery

Unlike some less-valuble sources, it was not an advertisement for any beauty product line, but rather a comprehensive guide to non-surgical cosmetic enhancement. Itcontains valuable information for anyone exploring the vast array of non-surgical cosmetic options available today.

Great resource
This book has been my constant companion in the month leading up to and now the week since surgery.I went into surgery completely at ease, largely thanks to the "walk-through" of what to expect on the day of surgery that's contained in this book.And after surgery, the recovery information and tips are helping everyday!I highly recommend this book, if you are facing surgery or need help making the choice that's right for you.
A very good reference book
I ordered this book a week before my hysterectomy and didn't get it until afterward, but I still found it very helpful. Great detail on preparing for surgery and what to expect the day of and the week after. The chapter about the pros/cons of keeping your cervix interested me because my doctors had opposing opinions. The last chapter contains comments from patients and husbands that I found revealing and reassuring. At 6 weeks past surgery, I'm still referring to the book. I recommended this book and The Woman's Guide to Hysterectomy to my gynecologist. Both are comprehensive and informative; this book is slightly more "readable."

A great guide!
I bought this guide post surgery since the prodedure was my only option for my particular problem, but it was still very helpful.It answered alot of my questions about hormones, recovery etc.It covers alot about the surgery and the various types.I also like that the author just tells like it is, and covers all subjects candidly.

A Colorful and Interesting Account
Medical memoirs have become a popular genre. Most are quite revealing as to the virtual hell a four to five year resident must experience to become a qualified practitioner. The resident surgeon's experience has to be the most hellish in terms of the amount of hours worked, (100 hour weeks) the pressure brought to bear from the attending staff, sometimes extremely sadistic, abrasive and demeaning, not to mention the continuos mental strain from lack of sleep and the stress on the residents family, some families, unfortunately, disintegrate at some point along the way. Craig Miller's book clearly expresses all these things, however it is the spirit in which he communicates these experiences that makes his memoir worthwhile reading.
More like, "The Whining of a Resident"
William Nolen's original "The Making of a Surgeon" was a near epic inspirational recounting of one's surgical training.It celebrated the training process that molded eager, talented young doctors into, what else, surgeons.He portrayed a system that was necessarily grueling in order to insure that the products were worthy and capable of having people's very lives placed into their hands.Miller's tale, on the other hand, is more the revisionist whining of a worker who believes his boss never appreciated his talents or efforts.The entire book reads much like the faculty roast he recounts near the end: a steady spiteful payback; a re-vengeful, cathartic diatribe in which the targets are the very faculty and institution that tolerated him as a green, imperfect but promising young recruit and trained him to be a surgeon.If your preference is inspiration, stick with the original.If you enjoy wallowing in self-pity and pointing the fingers at others to explain your own shortcomings, you'll enjoy Miller's version.

a truly biased view
Dr. Dattoli touts brachytherapy above all else, even though studies have shown that surgery offers surer long-term results, important especially for younger men who don't want their cancer to recur down the road.Seed implants can leave areas of the gland undertreated.Also, the idea that radiation causes fewer side effects is bogus.In fact, in addition to urinary and erectile problems, men getting radiation in any form run the risk of bowel problems.

Comments on Surviving Prostate Cancer without surgery
The book suffers from a rhetorical bias against surgery -- a bias that leads to little good being said about surgery.A study reported in the Journal of the American Medical Association concluded that if you see a surgeon about treatment options he/she will likely represent surgery; if you initially see a radiologist, the recommendation is likely to be radiation.

Easy Read and very informative
I have read a lot about this subject, yet still learned more.Goes into detail, yet the writing is very easy to read -- slight humor included -- and warnings about areas you might want to skip if you are squimish. Also, good description about how to find a doctor -- the advice rang true to my experience.

Candid and detailed
Because I am considering a knee replacement, this book had lots of helpful info.There were plenty of details and excellent suggestions for dealing with knee/hip replacement issues.I had already done considerable research, but this book went significantly beyond what I had learned.Written in an interesting manner and by an "insider" who seeks to inform rather than having an ax to grind with other doctors.

The only book you will need!
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and I read Doctor Grelsamer's book prior to undergoing knee replacement surgery.I had also read several others.His was by far the most complete and answered all my questions.I didn't feel like I was entering surgery unawares.I highly recommend this book if you are thinking about knee replacement surgery. ... A Huge Help
This book is must reading for anyone with knee problems. Since it was written by a doctor,it gives a lot of information that you feel you can trust, because he writes in a very frank, honest,informative manner. Very helpful,informative---a real life saver when you first get a diagnosis of knee problems. A must read!

The Best Source For Knee Information
Being a student and wanting to be a doctor, I read lots of medical books so I can gain a better understanding for anatomy and medicine. Outstanding
I live in Europe and bought this book because I realized my doctors were never going to tell me anything about my upcoming ACL surgery except when to turn up at the hospital. I found the information concise yet thorough, well-organized, and well-written. Scott explains injuries, solutions, prevention, and "how to" from every angle. In short, the book was exactly what I was looking for. My only comment would be that anyone getting operated on outside the US (probably very few or zero readers of this review!) will probably have a very different experience, but still I felt much much more secure and better equipped to handle the whole thing after reading this book. ... The Ostomy Book
I am scheduled for a Permanent Colostomy in less than one week.Eventhough I had searched the Internet for helpful information, this book hasbeen a tremendous source of help.It has greatly reduced myapprehension. An Excellent Resource
This excellent book (half the royalties are donated to the United Ostomy Association) is written by a colostomate and an ET nurse and is characterized by numerous first person experiences and insights.Coveringnumerous topics from the typical descriptions of, different ostomies andsurgeries to traveling with an ostomy, considering work situations,remaining active with exercise, children with ostomies, sex and emotionaladjustments, etc., this book is written with a good sense of humor and avery down-to-earth attitude.Filled with lots of good resources, Mullenand McGinn do a great job explaining the role of the ET nurse and the roleof the Ostomy Association in education of the ostomate and the public atlarge.A fabulous book and a must for the reference shelf.

Aging is never the problem ... as long as you stay in top form
"Face it" - you get older every day because the clock marches forward. Aging and getting on in years is not the problem. BUT ... accumulating wisdom doesn't have to show on your face! Thanks to advancements in cosmetic procedures, diet and exercise, facial toning exercises, lifestyle, etc ... aging gracefully doesn't have to look like a shriveled up flower. Cosmetic surgery done within reason is a great option to keep feeling your best, as long as you don't confuse physical beauty with self-worth, it makes sense to look as young as you feel. You won't look 20 when you are 50 ... but you will look your best.

after researching dr.kotler and finding out how good he was,i went on amazon and found his book and all of the great reviews.being in a new state and not knowing anyone or anything i needed all of the help i could get.what a great result!you absolutely must read this book before doing anything.i am now 16 days post surgery and i am very pleased.i had a rhino and an upper eyelid.the only reason i gave the book a 4 rating is because the pain and healing are really underplayed by everyone including dr. kotler.although everyone is differant it was very painful and healing is slow.but i have a perfect nose and my eyes are great.you must,i repeat must read this book before having surgery.

Great Read!
Kudos to Irwin Silber!
Informative and reassuring
The very notion of hip replacement surgery can be frightening to the patient who is not emotionally and mentally prepared for the event. Having had both of my hips replaced within a five-month period, I was lucky to have found Silber's helpful guide ahead of time. It answered many of my questions, educated me on issues I had not considered, and also made me feel less alone and frightened. I have recommended it to other hip replacement patients as one of the best books out on this topic. Arming yourself with knowledge helps ease the fear and paves the way for quicker recovery.

Works for me!
In my quest to educate myself before my hip replacement, this was the first book I selected. The fact that the book addresses knee replacement as well is a plus, as I suspect that many who need hip replacement will atsome time also need knee replacement.I enjoyed the detail of what toexpect, the enthusiasm of the writer and the resulting feeling of "Ican DO this!"Since I'll be recovering at my mom's, I sent a copy toher so she'll know what's going on. ... Concise, Unbiased Information
This book provides a very useful guide for patients contemplating dental implants. It is clearly written, printed in large typeface and gives just the right amount of information to help potential implant patients make up their minds.

I have heard so much about dental implants in the past few years, with more people asking for them, and more dentists offering them.
