5-0 out of 5 stars Great illustrations, diagrams and labeled arteriograms
This is a great book for anyone interested in neuroangiography. The beginning chapter goes through the nuances of selective catheterisation and meticulous anti-embolic technique with each step nicely illustrated. It is difficult to get this information elsewhere. The anatomic chapters emphasize the issues that routinely arise when trying to define cerebral aneurysms. These chapters also clarify a lot of vascular nomenclature that can be otherwise confusing.I refer to this book whenever I come across an atypical vessel. Ifneuroangiography is part of your practice, you will find this book extremely helpful and will want a copy of it in your neuroangiography area.

5-0 out of 5 stars No better title for this book
This is an excellent starting point for the senior radiology resident orbeginning diagnostic neuroradiology fellow who wants to learn the basics of"practical neuroangiography."It is wordier than Ann Osborn'snew "Diagnostic Cerebral Angiography" and it contains a bit morestatistical information and factoids than I could deal with at times butseldom do books entitled "practical" live up to there names asthis one does. There are numerous excellent angiographic examples and linedrawings which illustrate common normal variants.I think the greatestasset of this book is the beginning chapters on technical procedures whichgives many useful (ie practical) points on performing cerebral angiographywhich is were it really excels over Osborn. This is a must have in thelibrary of any newcomer to the field. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Finally ..... something at MY level!
When our 5 year old daughter was diagnosed with a Brainstem Glioma, the hospital and Child Cancer Foundation (in New Zealand) gave us books to read, if you wanted to wade through all the technical stuff, personally I couldn't cope with it all. Then when I was looking at sites on the internet, I read about this book.I had a look at it at Amazon, and thought about it for a few days, trying to weigh up if it would be relevant to NZ'ers.I finally took the plunge and got it.I am soooo relieved that I did.Suddenly I was able to read something and actually get some benefit from it.The inserts from the parents are wonderful - suddenly I don't feel so alone, and the advice is universal. It relates to anyone in any country going through this nightmare.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is a "must have" for caregivers
As a parent to a child who had a brain tumor, I feel that this book covers all the major topics. When our son was diagnosed back in '98, I searched for such a book but none existed. Our son has since passed away but we are thankful that this book is available - particularly for newly diagnosed families. We purchased copies for our public library and for The Jimmy Fund in memory of our three year-old son, Kevin Kirsch. Thank you for writing this much needed guide. It will be a resource for caregivers and medical professionals alike.

4-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Book About Spinal Cord Injury
We really like this book! The author, Margie Williams, suffered a severe spinal cord injury at the age of 53, just when she was making plans for the rest of her life. She presents a close-up view of what life is like during and after such an incident, including her experience with institutional medicine and insurance companies (for better and for worse), and her determined -- and ultimately successful -- effort to rehabilitate herself and reconstruct her life. Journey To Well is well-written, funny in some parts and heart-rending in others, but completely absorbing throughout. The comprehensive Resource Guide included in the Appendix is itself well worth the price of the book for those dealing with spinal cord injuries as patients or as caregivers. 4-0 out of 5 stars A Realistic Account
I am an Occupational Therapist who works with persons with spinal cord injuries. I found this book to be very helpful in describing what it's like to have a SCI from the victim's point of view. Her story doesn't put on a glossy finish, and that's good, because it isn't a fun experience.I have given it to students to read to gain a better perspective on the impact of a SCI on an individual and the family. I would recommend this book if you want to read an account of one person's struggle through hospitalization, rehab and life at home.

2-0 out of 5 stars Journey to Well
Reviewer: robert dorroh (see more about me) from Sonora, CA United States The reader will be distracted by poor writing that includes awkward sentences, punctuation, rash of italics and exclamation points, and an overdose of sentimentality. Williams is a good soul who needs a better editor. Still, she deserves two stars for sincerity and a good effort. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I found everything Ineeded to know about Spine
SPINE SECRETs is the latest in the "SECRETS" series of books and I would highly recomend it to anyone training in the spine field.I am a physician assistant and have worked in the spine field for over 5 years.During that time, I have worked with countless orthopedic residents who were doing their spine rotation and three different spine fellows. We all studied from the same materials and would have benefited greatly from this book.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book by a Great Surgeon
I've read the book and had surgery on my back by Dr. Jarolem about 2 weeks ago.I'm ordering extra copies of the book to hand out to friends and family who have back trouble. This book makes a complicated subject easy to understand.
5-0 out of 5 stars Finally a clear explanation of important back issues
I have been operated on twice on my back, and I wish this book was available years ago. Back surgery is a complicated process and it is difficult for a patient to look at a MRI image that the doctor is looking at, and even with explanations from the doctor, to understand. This book clearly and simply explains all surgical options, the pro's and con's and the risks involved with each. It also describes the likley hood of side effects. It also has sample images from MRI's, CT scans and X rays to show you a picture of the problems, with clear labeling. The key , I think, is that it helps you better undersatnd your problem and to communicate intelligently with the surgeon about your condition. I recommend to anyone who may may considering surgery! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A medical book that reads like a mystery
In this extremely well written book, Luba Vihanski reviews one hundred years of research on spinal record regeneration. She describes the many angles from which this topic has been approached. She explains what was previously believed and what the experiments demonstrated. Many diagrams and photographs make the topic more clear. The researchers involved are not left out in the dark: You get a feeling that you know them. Read more

For over twenty years, Dr. Dean Howell has been manipulating the sphenoid bone, referred to as the central cranial bone. After birth or trauma, everything adjusts to the skull's im-balance, leading to facial, breathing, spinal, and even mood disorders. Without surgery, Dr. Howell pioneered NeuroCranial Restructuring (NCR), realigning the skull and building cures for many. Fascinating read. ... Read more
