Voices of Scleroderma Vol 3
As a scleroderma patient I needed to tell someone and found the International Scleroderma Network. A website that lets one tell their scleroderma/auto-immune stories. I became involved as a volunteer and with suggestions and collaboration with the President and founder of the ISN we started collecting stories. The results are three volumes of personal, heart warming, tragic, amazing personal stories from all over the world.
Terrific for Scleroderma/Autoimmune Patients, Caregivers, and Doctors!
Keep in mind that I'm a tad prejudiced, being a co-editor of the book -- but in my opinion, it is absolutely fabulous, and the very best book that our nonprofit International Scleroderma Network (ISN) has published in this series!

Lupus patients
As a newly diagnosed SLE patient, this book answered so many questions I had plus some I hadn't even thought of yet.It is an excellent source of information.It was also helpful for family members to read and aid in their understanding of my dieseae.

A reference for every lupus patient
This volume has been repeatedly recommended by doctors who speak to our lupus organization.We try to keep copies on hand for our members at all times, and recommend it to those who call the Lupus Hotline.

The title is misleading. It should be Lupus Q & A a primer

Interesting Story of a Journey
I, too, was fascinated with the author's journey and disturbed by herrelationships with others. She is judgemental and critical of those uponwhom she relies. And she relies on them very, very much. Obviously shecomes from wealth and means,never struggling with the pain and difficultiesthat come from financial ruin, dealing with Social Security Disability,poverty and working, even while very sick, when your very survival dependsupon it. Not all of us have Wealthy Doctor Daddy to rescue us whenever weare in trouble. Having said that, I relate to and admire her chutzpah indealing with her doctors, her efforts to be informed and educated about herillness and her willingness to take responsibility for managing herillness. Her story is most useful in showing persons with chronic illnesshow to manage their care and advocate for themselves. It is a compellingstory, nonetheless!

This book helped me learn to live with a chronic illness.
I think it took a lot of courage for Ms. Szasz to write this book.Itreally delves into her past personal life and shows a person how to try anddeal with life on a day to day basis.Having a chronic illness is no pieceof cake and to me when I read about her getting up and going to workeveryday and trying to live as normal a life as possible, it encouraged meto do the same.Some may say that it gives readers a sense that they willgo through exactly what the author has, but if the patient has beenproperly educated by their physician that shouldn't happen.By the time Ifinished her book, like one other stated I felt that I just said goodbye toa close friend and also 'Thank You'.Thank you, not only for showing methat you can live a normal life, but in all honesty, you should withoutever lowering your expectations or changing your dreams.

Although sometimes alarming, this is an arresting book
Ms. Szasz' journey with lupus is decidedly atypical, and could unduly alarm many who suffer from lupus. Yet, herpluckiness and approach to her illness can help the faint of heart advocate for themselves in dealing with their illness and with their physicians.Although I often felt that her relational functionings left something to be desired, and felt this was a book I wouldn't want to own, in the end, I had formed an affection for her. I often remember and savor the lessons I learned and her wry wit.Finishing the book was like saying goodbye to an enigmatic friend who has lived life with bravery and zest, and who taught you a few flourishes along the way..Read more

All about lupus
I tried hard to wade through this book, but it finally made me call out "Uncle."Since it was in paperback, I thought maybe it would be of interest to the general public, that is, people who do not have lupus themselves.
ANOK BOOK!
Although this is a non-fiction book, it was very helpful in understandingthe disease. Another book that does even a better job of this is theficitonal novel, Stolen Moments by Barbara Jeanne Fisher . ..Ms Fisher haslupus and wrote this book with her heart! The title refers to the endangered U.S. health care system
This book is concerned that the rights of patients are being eroded byinsurance cutbacks and control.Its goal is to foster a national debate onwise use of medical resources. Dr. Lockshin uses touching and funnyanecdotes of chronically ill patients he has treated. His compassion andcare are revealed as is his fear for the direction the U.S. healthcaresystem may be heading. Chapter 4 on science and medicine will causecontroversy among scientists and I disagree with Dr. Lockshin's views ofthe dichotomy between physicians and scientists. This book should be readby anyone with a chronic disease,their relatives,the medical profession,and public policy planners.In short it should be read by anyone planningto use healthcare services in the near future. ...
