5-0 out of 5 stars Lupus Patients and Familys Must Order this!!
I am a Lupus Patient and had NO idea what my family would go through when I had my diagnosis. It was right there for me to read and grasp but I didn't until after the fact. I watched my family get torn apart and almost lost my number one supporter (my husband) If I had a picture into what I was going to go through I would of been able to prepare and understand what was going on. Well this book is open and honest and would provide that cushion. I recommend it highly

5-0 out of 5 stars Alifesaver!!
I have been diagnosed with Lupus for almost 40 years, but I was undiagnosed for 10 years. Finally an Internist put together my collection of ailments and diagnosed me as having Lupus. This was such a relief but also a frightening time as 40 years ago Lupus was still a fairly unknown. The blood tests, etc. had not yet been fully developed and what information was out there was pretty negative and scary.
3-0 out of 5 stars Coping With Lupus: Apractical Guide to Alleviating the Chall
I have found this book to be a helpful well rounded guide to Lupus. From the symptoms before diagnosis to after diagnosis, and how to deal with every day challenges and side effects of the disease and treatments.I beleive it is a great jumping off point for the newly diagnosed. It dispells myths, and give a newly diagnosed patient comfort at a time that they may be feeling overwhelmed and desperate by the diagnosis of Lupus. It is a very easy read, as the doctor speaks in layman language rather than complicating things with lot's of medical termonolgy and anatomy terms. For a person who is looking for beginning over view of the disease it is very helpful. But, if you are looking for more datailed information on specific tests, treatments, or the physiology of the disease one would need to look further. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Guide for Sjogren's Sufferers
This book is an excellent practical guide for people with Sjogren'sSyndrome. It offers a good balance of medical information and everydaycoping techniques. For many of us simply understanding all of the manyfacets of the condition and then finding medical help has been a longbattle. Sue Dauphin's book opens with a fewstories(including her own) ofpeople with Sjogren's Syndrome. As I read about people who had struggledas I have with Sjogren's, I immediately enjoyed the book simply because itis comforting to realize you're not alone. The book follows with adefinition of Sjogren's and then has a long, thorough chapter discussingsymptoms. I was amazed to discover that some of the medical problems I'dbeen having that I had been told were not related to my Sjogren's, in factwere part of the condition. Perhaps knowing this will help with mytreatment. The book goes on to discuss immunology, diagnostictechniques, treatment options and coping mechanisms. All of the informationis clearly written. The tone of the book is friendly and easy to understandeven when discussing the most technical medical aspects of the syndrome. Itincludes information on support resources including addresses of supportagencies such as The Sjogren's Syndrome Foundationand the NationalSjogren's Syndrome Association. I would highly recommend this book toanyone with Sjogren's or to loved ones of Sjogren's patients. It reallyhelps you understand Sjogren's and gives you many suggestions for coping. Iwish I had had this book years ago when I first discovered I had Sjogren's. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars collective essays
"Coping With lupus" takes a philosophical approach to the disease. It brings together a collection of essays from different experts. Topics covered include a message of hope, lupus and kids, S.L.E. and genetics, the doctor-patient relationship. The essays are cursory withoutmuch depth. And without providing anything really "new".Ipreviously purchased two other books on the subject (one by Phillips andanother by Dibner). These addressed the topic more comprehensively.

4-0 out of 5 stars very educational
I have lupus so I found much of the information interesting. ..For thoseof you looking for more, you might try reading Stolen Moments by authorBarbara Jeanne Fisher.. This is a beautiful fiction book, based on theautors on life with lupus, and for sure makes readers aware that life andlove are precious and not to be taken for granted.this book was edited byMs Fisher's lupus specialist, and it is also known as the love story of the90's. Hats off to both authors. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Lupus: The Facts byDr. Graham Hughes (Oxford, England)
Lupus: The Facts, provides alot of much needed information for the Lupus patient. The facts were a bit over simplified and some of the more rare symptons (such as Lupus and Hives) are not addressed. I found Dr. WallacesLupus book much more in depth and informative for the money.

4-0 out of 5 stars Concise and informative
Dr. Hughes, England's leading lupus specialist, has written a concise and impressively informative book. It's not as thick or as detailed as Wallace's The Lupus Book and is light on nephritis information, but LupusFacts is well organized and delivers important information quickly andunderstandably. It also gives a slightly different perspective fromAmerican medicine. It's less intimidating than Wallace's or Dr. Lahita'sbooks so it's a good introduction to this often misunderstood disease.Atthe same time, it would still make a good addition to the experienced lupuspatient's library. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A very good book
I thought this was a good book, and very easy to read. I have a friend with lupus, and she is very much like the main lady in this book. It is good to see how other people deal with these things. I think the author knows how to touch the heart of people and that is a very special gift. I read this book, and Stolen Moments by Fisher, and both have helped me in a big way to understand my friend with this illness. Hope they find a cure for it soon. I would recommend this book for anyone dealing wtih any illness, personally or with someone they love.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pumpkin..A review
Having Lupus I have been searching and searching for a book that truly expresses what I am going through. When I started reading Pumpkin I realized that I had found that book.I read the book in one sitting and am going to suggest it to my family.I am experiencing much of what Eileen went through, it's as if the book were about me personally.Patricia does a remarkable job conveying Eileen's thoughts although she did not have the disease herself. She really understood her daughter well and Eileen was so lucky for that.I would recommend this book for others who have Lupus as well as their family members.
