5-0 out of 5 stars A TRUE GOD SEND
This is one THE best books I have ever read about Lupus. As a Lupus sufferer, it is important to know aspects of this illnesses. This book goes from the diagnostic phaze to the definition of and the treatment of Lupus. It is very detailed and concise in its approach. Doctor Wallace must be one heck of a rheumatologist because he took very complex subject matter and made it coherent for the average American. This book is filled with information on various treatments for Lupus, a prolifera of testing procedures and an explanation of co exsisting autoimmune diseases. Any individual with Lupus, their families, physicians and social workers should have this truly well constructed text!
5-0 out of 5 stars A God Send
This book is one of the best out there on Lupus.Mr. Wallace disects the disease into many parts because Lupus had many frustrating facets to it.After reading this book, I am going to talk to my doctor who does not think that I have Lupus, because I don't fit neatly into a box.I can't wait to tell this doctor that my last blood test showed the anitphospholipid levels were extremely high.I noticed it, he didn't.Thank you Mr. Wallace for naming the symptoms, and the cause of it.My "gut feeling" was right.

5-0 out of 5 stars Yes, it is hard to accept but it has relieved my asthma greatly..
After a lifetime of being told that salt is bad for me, I finally let go and started to use celtic sea salt liberally (as prescribed in the book). At first I only drank the water, but adding the salt completely maximized my progress. At 4 separate times this past weekend, I stopped my own asthma attacks at each onset. It took me about 7-10 minutes each time. It took alot for me not to use my inhaler, and to just give the water & salt a chance to work.I am extremely grateful and rather emotional about it, since I thought I would be on my proventil inhaler for the rest of my life. The inhaler has caused a number of side effects, and I am now planning a detox to remove the residue of this drug from my body, which I've been dependent on for more than 27 years. And I've only been doing this seriously for 2 weeks, (and getting better with each day). I thank "Dr.B" for giving me my health back (along with hundreds of others whose testimonials I've read on the www.watercure2.com site). These are the same testimonials I was so compelled to read again and again, because I just could not believe and accept that something so simple could cure this disease that left me so weak and scared about the future of my health. Not to mention, very likely preventing other diseases I would be on the road towards. I suppose this is my own testimonial, because it really happened, and I hope that readers searching for an answer will forget their fears (that it won't work) and try it. Yes, it is still hard even for me to believe...even though it continues to work for me. But I do know for sure that I will never stop Dr.B's water & salt prescription. I will say this - if you want your health back, just take it back by taking action.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very Poor
No real info other than what I already knew. There was a small two sentence reference to the info I was seeking.A real rip-off!I'm going to return the book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good advice, but add magnesium for even better results
There is significant evidence that the root cause of many, if not most, cases of asthma (and many allergies as well) is deficiency of magnesium. This fact is discussed in detail by Dr. Carolyn Dean in her excellent book The Miracle of Magnesium. Dr. Dean recommends 600 mg of supplemental magnesium daily. People with asthma who follow Dr. Dean's advice about daily magnesium supplementation often improve dramatically even if they have continued to struggle with asthma under other treatments which omit magnesium supplementation. If you are suffering from asthma please read Dr. Dean's excellent book and follow her advice regarding daily magnesium supplementation. It may well be the most important thing you will ever due to relieve this terrible ailment. By the way, although a variety of magnesium supplements are available, and beneficial, chelated magnesium -- which is readily available in most health food stores -- is the most effective. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Stories of success and hope from people with no hidden agenda
This book is a testament to those who have chosen a different path to treating this terrible disease, a testament to those who do not blindly accept the advice of rheumatologists trained to prescribe toxic drugs that don't cure the disease but do guarantee return visits and a lifetime of costly lab work.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Book saved my life
I have been living with Scleroderma for quite some time. I tried all conventional treatments and nothing worked. I became sicker and sicker and developed internal organ damage. I have been on this therapy for nine months and the results are amazing. I finally havea life. This book is a must to read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book
Don't let the previous review scare you. The quackwatch guys are the quacks themselves. Barrett, who heads up the quackwatch "research", is not a board certified doctor of anything and has been sued a bunch of times. The book itself is excellent and describes a treatment protocol that works. This protocol brought me back from near death when no local doctor could even figure out what was wrongwith me. The protocol has also significantly helped our son who has autism. The "best" specialists told us there was no treatment for our son's autism and he would be permanently institutionalized by the age of 7. However, like many autism kids doing biomedical treatments, including those listed in this book, he has almost recovered. He's now 8 and attends a regular school where he performs on grade level. The treatments in this book work. It's definately worth a look.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for those newly diagnosed.
The "New Hope for People with Lupus" was very informative. It is an easy format to follow and helpful for those newly diagnosed or reading their first book on Lupus. The coverage of both traditional and non-traditional therapies was solid. I recommend this book for those who are new to Lupus.

2-0 out of 5 stars Unimpressed
I am a person with a possible diagnosis of Lupus, looking for information about the disease. While I found Dr. Wallace's handbook on Lupus very helpful, "New Hope" was full of silly platitutes and assumptions about my experiences of the disease (trying to be funny and sympathetic, but not mirroring my experiences at all--I found it rather condescending). It did not cover in depth alternative therapies as I had hoped.

5-0 out of 5 stars Informative and optimistic
This a good book for any Lupus patient.I have SLE and found this book inforamtive, but it is interlaced with optimism and cases of people who were able to reduce their symptoms. It has everything.. the basics, meds, alternative therapies, coping and relationships, tips on what to ask the doc. This is a good book. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good for Couples
This book was an excellent source of information. While Daniel Wallaces' book is by far the best written on Lupus, Ms. Dibner writes with passion, and she offers good advice.I read this in one sitting.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Good informative book
I thought this was a good book for anyone who is trying to learn more about lupus. I have had the disease for many years, and still found things I was not sure of. I would reccomend it to others for sure. I would also recommend Stolen Moments, as it shows someone living with lupus in a differnt way. Both are excellent books for lupus patient to read.

5-0 out of 5 stars This Book Was My Inspiration to Begin a Treatment that Works
I was diagnosed with RA some 24 years ago. Since that time, I have avoided the conventional treatments for this disease and have kept it in remission by various alternative therapies. However, about four years ago, the RA returned with a vengence and nothing was helping. My doctor at Whitaker Wellness Institute recommended a long term treatment with a form of tetracycline but I was skeptical until I read this book. It was as though it had been written for me. So on May 14, 2005, when my rheumatoid factor had hit 880, I began treatment with 100 mg of minocin twice daily. My latest blood test at the end of March 2006 showed the rheumatoid factor to be 188. I feel a great deal better and have made several lengthy trips during this time, which would have been impossible when I began treatment. I intend to continue this treatment until like others my rheumatoid factor is within normal range. This book is an inspiration with dozens of success stories. Thank God for Dr. Brown's persistence in the face of the scorn and ridicule of his contemporaries. Anyone with an autoimmune condition should read this book. And shame on the doctors who are not letting their patients know of its existence.

5-0 out of 5 stars It Really Works
I have followed the protocol in this book, no thanks to the rheumatologists who doubted it.After five years on minocycline, my RA factor is 30.It was 170 before I started the treatment.Minocycline is the only variable in my treatment. It also brought my SED rate and C-reactive protein back to normal levels.

5-0 out of 5 stars This Book confirmed what my body was telling me!
I am completly amazed by what this book has said! I have thought for years, that the methods that were applied to me were not the correct medicine. The drugs only made me worse. I have sent this book to a friend that also has RA and is terrible shape. Every example in the book has pertained to me. Now to find a Dr. in my area that can help. I live in mid CA. I will present my specialist with this book and ask him if he will read it and follow this plan. If not I'll be on my way to new DR. Thank you, Thank you! DR. Brown and all who helped and the author Henry Scammell for his work. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Endorsed by the Institute of Anti-Aging and Longevity
Laura Chester is a gem.She writes and excellent journey of her issues with Lupus SLE.It is a wonderful insight to her soul and can help hundreds in dealing with this terrible disease.I think a big, big, big part of the diary is how she discribes her physician, Dr. Jesse Stoff. This medical doctor writes the forward to this amazing book and is mentioned many times on how he helped Laura understand this disease and what she had to go through to immune her immune function and left her body beat the disease. What Lupus patients have to understand is that Laura Chester's journey and experience is being true to herself on why the disease happened in the first place because of stress and imbalanced lifestyles and dealing with infection. All of these things are outlined in Dr. Jesse Stoff's two other books, The Prostate Miracle and Chronic Fatiuge Syndrome: The Hidden Epidemic. What's interesting in the updated version of Lupus Novice is that Laura doesn't even remember a lot of the pains she went through because she's on the road to recovery and that the past has nothing to do with her future of wellness, since it was her past issues in her life that caused the stress which lead to her disease. This is truely a fasinating book that I recommend at our Institute of Anti-Aging and Longevity to all our Lupus patients along with Dr. Stoff's other two books. In fact, the American Lupus Foundation, highly recommends Lupus Novice also to all the people with Lupus. Again, an outstanding book about, love, compassion, determination, self-actualization and witnessing to all those who suffer from lupus. Anyone interested in the protocals that Dr. Stoff applied to Laura Chester can email us at the Institute of Anti-Aging and Longevity...or call us at 1-800-878-6659 and we will be more than glad to put you on the road to recovery.

4-0 out of 5 stars A fascinating and insightful journey towards healing
I found this book by accident in a bookstore one day, and ended up on the floor reading the whole thing in one sitting. It is a compelling and insightful account of the author's journey towards healing from SLE, exploring various natural and conventional therapies, and eventually findingrelief using anthroposophical medicine, a system somewhat like homeopathy developed by Rudolph Steiner. This also led me to investigate this form of medicine and the field of anthroposophy in general. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Must-Read for those with Sjogren's Syndrome
This is one of the best books out there on Sjogren's Syndrome.Because Sjogren's Syndrome is an autoimmune disorder that can affect many different parts of the body, it can be very difficult to live with...however, this book goes into detail about every possible manifestation of the disease and how to cope with them. It's very comprehensive and very scientific at times, but well worth the read.

2-0 out of 5 stars Basic Infomation
I found this book typically medically orientated. It was informative and accurate of the current treatments etc. but to be honest I am grateful I read this book after I had researched many forms of therapy. 4-0 out of 5 stars It really helped me understand Sjogren's...
After being given a diagnosis of Sjogren's Syndrome, I really didn't know what it meant. I searched the internet, but really couldn't find any detailed information, so I hit Amazon to find a couple of books. This one was recommended by the Sjogren's Foundation, and was an excellent choice. I was able to see some detailed information, including a break down of the different symptoms. One negative note - it is very medically oriented, so you may need to read through it a few times. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful
I really enjoyed this book because it deals with the emotional and psychological effects of having a chronic illness.Sometimes when patients are diagnosed with autoimmune diseases they feel very frightened and alone...this book lets people know that others can totally empathize and relate to what they are experiencing. It gives advice on what to look for in a doctor (many are ignorant of autoimmune diseases!), and how to cope with people who just don't understand the debilitating impact of Sjogren's.I recommend this book in conjunction with the New Sjogren's Syndrome Handbook, which maps out the biomedical aspects of the disease. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A good book from a sufferer
This book is written by Sharon Moore, who suffered from SLE (Systemic Lupus Erythomatus or simply called Lupus) and who was told that it is an autoimmune disorder and she may not recover from it. She did recover from it by studying alternative approaches to health, which she describes well in this book. Her story is spread over 13 chapters and an epilogue. She talks of the effect of liver on health, diet and health, nutritional supplements, herbs, beneficial fats and oils, toxins in food, problems from toxins in dental work, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Mind-Body Therapies, Caring for Your Spirit and interestingly the last chapter, "How to Begin" a good road map. The epilogue is a good graphic portrayal of her recovery from a debilitating illness.
1-0 out of 5 stars Not really a lupus book
Reader beware. Except for the second chapter ("What is Lupus?"), this book isn't really about lupus. It is, rather, a somewhat haphazard introduction to naturopathic practices by a lupus sufferer who happens to be a competent writer.5-0 out of 5 stars A Very Valuable Book, Whether Suffering from Lupus or Not.
Sharon Moore's book combines many valuable attributes.First, it tells a fascinating story of the author's search to discover the nature of her frightening illness.I could sense that, in spite of being so ill, she was determined to discover the most effective therapies to bring the disease under control. In the process, she has done an enormous amount of research that she shares with her readers.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Extremely informative
I really loved this book. It was very informative and it helped me better understand my desease. It also has helped my family members to better support me during flares and different symptoms of Lupus.
5-0 out of 5 stars Important Information Every Newly Lupus Diagnosed Patient(and their friends and families) Needs to Know
I found this book very informative and it helped me personally answer many questions that I have had about how I'm feeling, not only now, but for many years.I found that I personally had many of these symptoms for the past 20 years, yet it took the medical profession to finally give me a diagnosis after being hospitalized for over 2 weeks with zero white count, bone marrow suppression, and many other symptoms in this book. I was tested for every disease from HIV to Hepititis B & C, all negative and 3 bone marrow biopsies that were incluclusive as I did not have enough bone marrow to test and my red cells and platelets started depleteing. As a friend put it I had a Text Book Case of Lupus, yet, my rheumatologist couldn't give me a Lupus Diagnosis until I finally had a Full Blown Lupus Flare Up, although, 2 years ago I did have a postive ANA test, they had to wait for the flare up, which did not occur until 2 and half years after my hospitalization. This book is not only helpful to the patient, but to their families and friends also.I copied many sections to give to friends so they could better understand what I was going through.I also ordered more books for family members, so they also could understand why I act the way I do or feel the way I do, but also Lupus can be hereditary and I believe we all need to better educate ourselves with our familie's medical histories.I believe this author did a very well and informative job on educating those people who are newly diagnosed with Lupus.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have for all lupus patients
This book helped me so much and I have been diagnosed for over a year. The author explains everything so that it is easy to understand and is very thorough. You are supposed to read the book throughout the year, but it took me four days.It read almost like a novel. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A practioner speaks the truth
This was a very insightful and practical guide to not only treating this disease, but many others as well.Doctors are not mind readers, nor are they infallible. They need to have patients cooperate with them, and provide them with as much insightful information as possible in order to obtain an accurate diagnosis.Patients should not rely on the doctor to have all the answers, and frequently, will not, if there is meaningful information left from his or her view. This book reminds us all that we are responsible for our own health, and the doctor is there to help us along that path only if we allow them.It is up to each of us, as patients, to be forthright, and open with our problems, concerns, and illnesses. We must forever be mindful that today's health system does not encourage lengthy visits with physicians; hence, we should come prepared, equiped, and aware of our bodies and how our health is being impacted by whatever our conditions may be.This book gently but firmly reminds us of our responsibilities to take charge of our own bodies and of our interrelationships with our doctors.Bravo on a book well done, indeed.

5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful book!
This book is a valuable resource for anyone who is facing the challenges of a Sjogren's diagnosis. The authors address both the newly diagnosed patient and those who have been coping with this chronic illness for many years.Their advice on choosing a doctor and forming a partnership with her is wonderful and, I believe, critical to the physical and emotional well being of the chronically ill patient.I hope physicians will read the book. The authors' insights into the frustrations of treating patients with incurable but manageable illnesses are lessons for both patients and physicians.5-0 out of 5 stars Fair and balanced reporting: patient and doc collaborate
This book is a very good example of how patient and doctor can and must collaborate; in this case on a book about a specific disorder, but in a bigger sense, too: patients and doctors must learn to work together to solve complex, tricky medical conditions caused by autoimmunity, to come up with customized treatment packages which enhance quality of life without threatening it. ... This is a book from someone who has traveled the route with his wife to learn about scleroderma and to obtain quality medical care and necessary assistance. Many avenues they traveled are shared in detail. The author clearly wrote this book in an aim to assist others taking the same path he, his wife and his family were forced to endure.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just what I was looking for!
I got this book for my mother who was diagnosed with scleroderma 5 months ago. It answered questions that we hadn't even thought of yet. The chapters on finding the right doctor and getting information on the Internet were the best. This is a great resource.

1-0 out of 5 stars Useless except for U.S. patients
I found this book completely useless, although I suppose it may be helpful to U.S. patients. It seemed to me to be a catharsis for the writer, nothing else. As a patient suffering from scleroderma, I wasted my money, and the book ended up in the garbage after I had looked through it. I think it should be made clear that this is not helpful to patients or their families living outside the U.S. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A very good source of easy to understand information
Mary Horowitz does a great job providing powerful empowering information to Lupus patients and their families. Lupus is complex and affects so many different parts of one's body (and mind). I date a lady who has had Lupus for many years, but was only diagnosed about a year and a half ago. Prior to the correct diagnosis, doctors weren't able to pull together all of the different symptoms and positive ANA test. Even though I have been involved in medicine all my adult life, I had never "seen" a complete Lupus patient until I my friend was DX'd. After reading Horowitz's book, I feel much better able to support my friend and understand her symptoms and effects of Lupus on her body. I recommend this book for family members as well as Lupus patients.

5-0 out of 5 stars My rheumatologist is Dr. Mark Horowitz
I was so happy when I finally read this book.Dr. Mark Horowitz is one of the best rheumatologists out there and when he diagnosed me with Lupus 3 years ago, I never thought I would understand any of it.Thank goodness he took the time and effort to participate in this book and actually sit and explain everything to me. Any time I have a question, I have no problem going back to the book and if it is not there I call his office and he explains anything I want to know.I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for some answers and not because my doctor wrote the book but because it is a GOOD book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good info for starting out
When I was first diagnosed, and had little to no clue about lupus, I bought this book. More because of the pink edging on the cover than its applicable title. It turned out to be very useful & filled with good information. Think of it as a "starting off" point though. It isn't as "nitty gritty" medical as it could be, nor is it a female empowerment book. It's for getting good footing when you're lost in the first icy swirl of diagnosis. ... Read more
