5-0 out of 5 stars Yes, it is hard to accept but it has relieved my asthma greatly..
After a lifetime of being told that salt is bad for me, I finally let go and started to use celtic sea salt liberally (as prescribed in the book). At first I only drank the water, but adding the salt completely maximized my progress. At 4 separate times this past weekend, I stopped my own asthma attacks at each onset. It took me about 7-10 minutes each time. It took alot for me not to use my inhaler, and to just give the water & salt a chance to work.I am extremely grateful and rather emotional about it, since I thought I would be on my proventil inhaler for the rest of my life. The inhaler has caused a number of side effects, and I am now planning a detox to remove the residue of this drug from my body, which I've been dependent on for more than 27 years. And I've only been doing this seriously for 2 weeks, (and getting better with each day). I thank "Dr.B" for giving me my health back (along with hundreds of others whose testimonials I've read on the www.watercure2.com site). These are the same testimonials I was so compelled to read again and again, because I just could not believe and accept that something so simple could cure this disease that left me so weak and scared about the future of my health. Not to mention, very likely preventing other diseases I would be on the road towards. I suppose this is my own testimonial, because it really happened, and I hope that readers searching for an answer will forget their fears (that it won't work) and try it. Yes, it is still hard even for me to believe...even though it continues to work for me. But I do know for sure that I will never stop Dr.B's water & salt prescription. I will say this - if you want your health back, just take it back by taking action.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very Poor
No real info other than what I already knew. There was a small two sentence reference to the info I was seeking.A real rip-off!I'm going to return the book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good advice, but add magnesium for even better results
There is significant evidence that the root cause of many, if not most, cases of asthma (and many allergies as well) is deficiency of magnesium. This fact is discussed in detail by Dr. Carolyn Dean in her excellent book The Miracle of Magnesium. Dr. Dean recommends 600 mg of supplemental magnesium daily. People with asthma who follow Dr. Dean's advice about daily magnesium supplementation often improve dramatically even if they have continued to struggle with asthma under other treatments which omit magnesium supplementation. If you are suffering from asthma please read Dr. Dean's excellent book and follow her advice regarding daily magnesium supplementation. It may well be the most important thing you will ever due to relieve this terrible ailment. By the way, although a variety of magnesium supplements are available, and beneficial, chelated magnesium -- which is readily available in most health food stores -- is the most effective. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Can you tell I really like this book!
"Sinus Survival: A Self-help Guide" by Robert Ivker (isbn: 1585420581) This `survival' book is amazing. (In contrast to "The Sinus Cure" by Debra Fulghum Bruce, which in my opinion, okay, I'll say it: "sucks").I've owned both books for five+ years now.In short, the `survival' book gives me plenty of `knowledge meat' to work with, while the `cure' book didn't tell me anything that I didn't already know. The `survival' book, on the other hand, I refer to every year, and learn (or relearn) more than I did before.Dr Ivker, is a sinusitis sufferer himself, went the extra hoops beyond MD to become DO and has many self-help options in here. He includes a thorough exploration of what EMT-physicians consider, and/or exams to possibly do, or surgeries, etc and why.True to his word, I've followed his steps and have become someone who regularly had two or more sinus infections every year, to someone who has been infection-free for five and counting. And for those earlier unfortunate times while suffering from one, I still gained immediate relief (beyond the antibiotics) from some specific steps he recommends. Can you tell I really like this book! Lol's

4-0 out of 5 stars A Roadmap to Relief
I had suffered for years with sinus problems - taking antibiotics, losing time from work, feeling depressed and hopeless.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent & comprehensive.
After reading everything on this and related subjects, 50+ books, I discovered this one, and as a sufferer of sinus infection and allergies, 2 sinus operations, 10 years of allergy shots, more anti-biotics than anyone would believe, I conclude that this book is correct on sinus infection & surgery, allergies, medication and prevention. After my second sinus operation, I told the surgeon about this book, who now recommends it to her patients. The nasal irrigation described in this book is usually more effective than any prescription, with no side effects. Just do it all the time, not just AFTER you become ill.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource
The information is coherent and well organized.Yes, it is possible one can glean much of the information from other sites on the Internet. However, doing so would take twice as long as reading the book and one can never tell when they are receiving advice from a real doctor or a quack. Everything in this book is backed by a Clinical Professor at Harvard. Not only does that offer peace of mind, it also gives you an upper hand when trying to get the correct medication from your doctor."I read in this book by Ralph B Metson from Harvard..." goes a lot farther than "I read on an Internet site somewhere..." I wish I could have read this book years ago.

4-0 out of 5 stars No real revelations...
This is a good book if you know nothing at all about your sinus condition. However, I had already gathered much of this information from good websites. There were a couple of interesting things that I wasn't aware of, but the bottom line is, how is this going to help me?Is it going to give me new ideas so I can get better?Unfortunately, it didn't.If you've already tried nasal irrigations, decongestants, steroid sprays, antihistamines, possible allergy shots and antibiotics, then you know all you can know about treating sinusitis without surgery. If you are facing surgery, then maybe the chapters on what to expect will be useful.

Editorial Review

Asthma kills 6,000 people a year. Respiratory illnesses affect millions more. According to Teresa Hale, asthmatics and others with respiratory illnesses are breathing wrong. "We have been led to believe that deep breathing is good for us because it increases our oxygen intake. In fact, the reverse is true. The more we breathe, the less oxygen actually reaches the cells of our bodies," says Hale in Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars In total agreement with asthmatics review
The Buteyko method is a superb therapy for asthma. Teresa Hales book touches on it but does not contain it. There are many books available which are worthy of reading especially if you have asthma, fatigue and other complaints. For example- do a search for Asthma Free naturally, Every Breath you take, The Buteyko Manual or a very simple read with all exercises called Close Your Mouth.
2-0 out of 5 stars Fair Introduction, but reads like a sales pamphlet
This book is a skimpy introduction to the Buteyko method, which seems to work. While the Buteyko method is very good, this book is deliberately vague about the details of the actual exercises.Hale spends chapter after chapter describing all the illnesses that the Breath Connection method will cure, but leaves many key questions about the method unanswered. Why do you take your pulse? How exactly do you breath shallowly?Do you use your diaphragm?Do you count? If not, how are you sure that you are doing it right?
4-0 out of 5 stars The missing link!
As an asthma and allergy sufferer, I had tried everything to alleviate my asthma without being dependent on prescription medication.I had already exercised regularly, maintained a wheat-, dairy-free and mostly organic diet, took vitamins and mineral supplements regularly and still my asthma plagued me daily.

4-0 out of 5 stars Absolute must for asthmatics
Buteyko breathing and helpful accounts of diet and exercise- ground breaking stuff. I would advise readers to do their research on Buteyko especially if they have breathing related problems. The site of the book is http://www.asthma-care.com/ - look at the history, conditions, and scientific evidence from the New Zealand Medical Journal and Australia Medical Journal. I used to suffer from asthmatic cough for many years from childhood toyoung adult.I happened to come across this book in a second handbookstore and ever since then, my health has increased tremendously. All Idid was follow one simple advice:take Cider Vinegar...for ticklish cough. I started taking a tablespoon of cider vinegar everynight before I sleepand I have never had asthmatic cough since. What's more whenever I felt Icaught some illnes, likely flu, I would only suffer slight symptoms ofheadache, neckache, a stuffy nose, but no runny nose, fever, or cough. However, it must be taken regularly. It's a preventive measure and not acure!I have also taken the advice to take honey and molasses too.Theyare as stated in the book...Wonder Foods! 5-0 out of 5 stars Calm and Information Guide
Despite the name "survival guide" I found this a calm and informative guide to environmental mold issues. It explained in an understandable way the scientific issues around mold such as what mold is, how it can be a health hazard, and more importantly how mold is not some sort of invisible killer, but something that requires certain conditions to become a problem.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tips on prevention are particularly well done
Mold growth is a wide-ranging problem only recently receiving recognition in the process: turn to the The Mold Survival Guide For Your Home And For Your Health for significantly more depth and advice than any ordinary newspaper article could offer. Indoor air quality professional teams join a writing specialist to describe different types of molds and how to eradicate them while maintaining health. Tips on prevention are particularly well done.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good, good
I previously purchased this book, used it successfully, and then lent it(much marked up) to someone (don't remember who)and now I need it again. I didn't follow the program 100%, but it did work. I was on allergy shots, and had asthma symptoms at certain times of the year depending on what was blooming. This book worked for me, and I have tried a lot of them.

2-0 out of 5 stars Missing the point
Another book that I felt had very little to offer that was not already out there. For the past fifteen years, I coughed every morning and night with disrupted sleeping and resulting fatigue. It was a breathing method called Buteyko that changed this.
4-0 out of 5 stars Intriging
I read this book with very great interest. It's the most promising and sensible approach I've seen to addressing the allergy and digestive problems I've been having for many years, which my own doctors have by trying ineffectively to treat by drugging the symptoms into submission.I intend to try the program.

2-0 out of 5 stars Conventional management- we have heard it all before
Asthmatics are now better informed and can research the effects of medication, allergies etc very easily. This book has nothing to offer to HELP people with asthma. It adopts a very narrow approach specifically using medication.
5-0 out of 5 stars A great first asthma book
I was skeptical of the name. However, I leafed through it (and many other asthma books) in a brick and mortar store before I bought this book. And I am so grateful! It's easy to read, but doesn't shy away from the technical and biological concepts you should know.It has nice diagrams for those of us who need the visuals to understand somewhat complicated biology.
5-0 out of 5 stars Practical, genuine, and doable
Asthma is serious; 15 people die of asthma each day yet many people don't take their symptoms seriously. Asthma for Dummies is both serious and yet conversational. It's practical, genuine and doable. It's got something of value for anyone interested in predicting, preventing, and responding to symptoms proactively.

1-0 out of 5 stars Makes You Want to Shoot Yourself!
I absolutely found this book repugnant. The illustractions are frightening and grim. In fact Figure 3.1 a wicked line drawing of a "pink puffer and a blue bloater" looks like a dark ages depiction of hell. Everyone with COPD knows we are going to die and that we are going to die younger than our cohorts. At fifty-five and having been diagnosed at forty, this book temporarily robbed me of any hope to lead an even worthwhile life. This was all compounded by the once again grotesque illustrations by Kenneth Axen. Far better and more hopeful is the "Courage" book that offers a story of hope, dignity, and the ability to cope. As a licensed psychotherapist I actually think the "Handbook" could be psychologically damaging to some patients. Since depression and anxiety go hand in hand with COPD, the "in your face" approach to this book is best to be avoided

5-0 out of 5 stars The Chronic Bronchitis and Emphysema Handbook
This handbook is a Godsend. Every website I went to gave mostly explanations of what COPD is. Those of us who suffer with COPD usually know what it is. This book is like a "COPD For Dummy's". It gives information on an enormous amount of topics in plain lay English. I can't thank the authors enough for this important tool.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Chronic Bronchitis and Emphysema Handbook
I writing this review with the thought that I owe the authors a BIG thank you and it's my hope to do a little payback for their huge contribution to the health of my Father. Ten plus years ago, my father was diagnosed with severe Emphysema which was causing heart failure. The Doctor's managed to get his heart out of fibulation by putting him on an oxygen tank. They said he would always have to be on oxygen. My father did the breathing excercises in this book and was off the oxygen with in a few months and went on to live a much better life for the next 10 years. He always attributed his health to me for buying him this book.He amazed his doctors. He bought this book for other patients Doctors told him they wouldn't read and follow the excercises.I don't know if they did or not. At any rate I'm now purchasing this for my Father-in-law whom has just had a quadrople bypass yesterday and it was found that he has severe empysema. So, hopefully I can pursade him to follow in my Dad's foot steps and take charge of his healing by doing the breathing excercises in this book religiously!
