5-0 out of 5 stars A new approach
I just heard this author speak at a teacher's conference. The material presented was excellent, and reflected the fresh and new approach of this book. I am so pleased that finally there is a book that treats the subject of body mechanics in a functional and practical way. This book is exactly what our profession has been waiting for. Buy it and enjoy!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best
If you are a massage student, therapist, or teacher of massage therapy, you should buy this book. It's the best book written on body mechanics. It provides all the information needed to sustain a healthy massage career. The burn-out rate for massage therapists is too short; this book will help to eliminate it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Gem
I've been teaching massage for over 15 years, and in all that time I've never come across such a wonderful book on body mechanics. This book is a gem. As a teacher I find its content up-to-date and concise. The photos are clear, the exercises are brilliant, and the tips for students are an extra bonus. My students have learned an incredible amount from this book, and I see it in their work with each other. I wouldn't be without this book in the classroom, and my students will be so thankful for it after they graduate. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Best section available on "coping" strategy
If your repetitive strain situation has gotten to the point where you need primarily information on coping with the pain and inconvenience, possibly from surgery, this book has the best coverages of that aspect, among the 6 books I've read. The non-MD author appears to have written approximately 1/3 of the book from a non-technical viewpoint, describing the life experiences and ideas on coping, down to the most intimate issues. Easily worth the "price of admission" for any of the ideas you might pick up. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great, but one piece of important info omitted
Great book, except:
4-0 out of 5 stars good practicaltips for living with an RSI
I disagree with the reviews below, I thought this is a fine book, a good complement to the books "It's Not Carpal Tunnel Syndrome" by Damany and " Conquering Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and Other Repetitive Strain Injuries" by Sharon Butler. It's true the latter two have much more on specific exercises to help get you better and I liked the medical information in Damany. However they don't have a lot of practical information on how to cope with your life during the healing process when you can't do a lot of the things you normally do in your daily life. This book fills that gap. It's got lots of practical suggestions of how to do things when you're injured. It's more of broader focus than the other books on the overall changes you need to make beyond the specific exercise program. I would recommed someone with an RSI get all three books as the information is complementary.

2-0 out of 5 stars very dystopic with little concrete information
This is an amazingly dystopic book, absolutely full of horror stories and unhappy endings. There's a chapter on how to have a sex life despite RSI, how to sue for loss of a career, the testimonial of a man who was paralysed from the waist down but found RSI more disabling etc - but nothing concrete about what RSI actually. OK, so now I know that if I have tendonitis I'm more likely to get carpal tunnel syndrome and the rest of them but this book doesn't give me information on what tendonitis (or the others) actually is or how to make much of a change. There are quick mentions of various treatments but there is no discussion of their relative merits. The author tells us about her own exercise program (30-40 minutes a morning with weights and 1 1/2 hours of ballet four times a week plus walking and stretching) but there are no specific exercises that can help you avoid recurrance or assist in healing.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Empower yourself with knowledge
Buy Dr. Frieds book and educate yourself before you let anyone perform surgery on you.It is not written as a boring medical journal. It is written in easy to understand language with illustrations for the person that has just been told they have carpal tunnel or thoracic outlet syndrome and some other hand/nerve injuries. When you are finished you will have a good idea of what your injury may be as well as knowing the risks/benefits of surgery in honest, plain and easy to understand language.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very Good Book
Not only have I read Dr. Fried's book, I am also a patient of his.No book, especially in the field of repetitive injury, is going to be complete without an informed medical opinion. If you use this book as help to enlighten your understanding of the pain you are in, as a tool to visualize what is happening under your skin where you cannot see, and don't try to use it as a guide to curing yourself, you will gain insight, knowledge, and a better ability to help you and your doctor to heal you.5-0 out of 5 stars Recommend it to Everyone!!!
Dr. Fried's: Light at the End of the Carple Tunnel Reaches far beyond conventional treatments of nerve pain to address. The many new and exciting alternative therapies now available.A must read book for thoseseeking a clear, simplified understanding of neuropathic pain.Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Very little information
This slim volume (less than 100 pages of real content, and printed in a large font size and with lots of white space) provides very general information on RSIs.The information is neither complete nor authoritatitve. The chapter on treatment, for example, just lists the things you can go to a doctor for, and has a few paragraphs on alternative procedures such as acupuncture.BTW, using yoga to treat RSI is probably the dumbest idea I've heard, myself being a former yoga practioner.Imagine supporting your weight upside down on your injured wrists!Avoid this book. ...
