Most definately-feed a cold , starve a fever
I have a fever and a cold right now. But have been feeding my cold every hour, and sleeping every 3 hrs. for the fever. I feel much better, thank you! A good book for those who knows very little about health.
I got this book cheap at a local bookstore and I thought why not read it.I am not a person who reads much, to be honest. But I have to add this book actually got me reading something before going to bed.What I did was read at least 10 to 20 advices before sleeping.In a month time, I would have learnt 600 medical tips!Now that's good (for me)!Sorry to say this... its a good book to put me to sleep too!Hahaha!So thanks to Celia for this wonderful book! ... This looks like a very easy to use book with common-sense advise.Looking under childhood rashes, for example, the chart seems concise and clear.I could have used that several months ago!I am giving this 4 stars as I haven't actually "road-tested" it yet.The true test is to use it when various illnesses and distress strike!But this looks like it would be an excellent resource for the home library. ... It's like having a nurse on call
I'm a journalist who interviewed the author for an article about the differences between the remedies doctors and nurses prescribe--and I was really impressed with the information this book contained. Ask a Nurse is a compilation of health advice from practicing nurses and nurse practitioners about all sorts of ailments you could experience and their treatments--many of which you can treat right at home. The idea behind this book is that nurses often know more and even better remedies than doctors because they're more involved in patient care. I tend to agree with this idea, especially when it comes to natural or non-prescription remedies.

Stop taking unnecessary trips to the doctor
I am the mother of two young children and constantly am taking my kids to the doctor.I saw this doctor on television with Heidi what's-her-name on ABC and got his book.There's lots of good common sense doctor stuff in there.Stuff that you don't have to go take your kids and sit in a waiting room with a bunch of sick people to find out.Sometimes I think sitting in the waiting room can make you sicker than you are.Especially kids.So I'm happy to be able to flip to any topic I need: Food poisoning, cuts and bruises, etc, etc, and find out what to do right at home.And the title's right, I've already saved a bunch of money.Thanks Dr. Shrader!!

A good resource for family healthcare
This book is full of commonsense advice on how to be your own doctor and reduce expensive and unnecessary trips to the doctor. It has fun anecdotes about his years as a family practice physician, starting from the years when house calls were still common practice. Practical with common sense
I found this book to be very practical, full of common sense information that is not seen too often in the medical profession these days. The anecdotes were fun to read and gave a feel for what life is like for a family doctor, one in the old style, when house calls were still common place.
