5-0 out of 5 stars The Search is Over I Have Finally Found It!
What more can I say, the answers to all of my prayers have finally been delivered. The Holy Grail for constipated people. This is a must read for anyone who has been plugged up and left hanging high and dry, and I am not ashamed to say, that I am one of the many. Let's face it folks, it could happen to anyone.
4-0 out of 5 stars Information you need now.
I got this book after years of horror stories with my hemorrhoids. This was the first time I had ever learned what was really going on inside and why the way I was treating things wasnt really doing much. The book has a sense of humor about the subject which is fun, but it never forgets it's true mission of helping to relieve your suffering.5-0 out of 5 stars this is a total health book
I received a suggestion from a friend to read this book. I told her Ididn't have these problems! She made me read it because I had headaches, sleepless nights, anxiety and poor energy. I NO LONGER HAVE THESESYMPTOMS!!! I followed the sugestions of Dr. Yasny and within 4 months lostall my symptoms - I am amazed!!!! Loved reading this book - it was like agood mystery and novel and comedy!Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars better help elsewhere
I tried for years to control IBS with diet, exercise, medications, etc.I never got anywhere with that.I recently tried an 'assist' from the 'Assist Processing Handbook' from L Ron Hubbard, and I was feeling much better within a couple of hours. If you have already ruled out food allergies (and any structural problems), and can't seem to control IBS with books such as this one, please do yourself a favor and get the assist book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Relief from Ibs: Irritable Bowel Syndrome
It has taken the doctors a long time to diagnose me for IBS. The doctors are not much help except for medication. This book gives you details of what a person goes through and ideas on how to control it or relief it. One of the main topics is stress.Stress causes a lot of the problems with IBS. This book gives you ways to cope with the stress and what you need to watch for in foods. I share the information in this book with many people that I meet who have IBS. I bought two books. The other book does not even begin to show you how to cope with IBS. I would recommend this book to anyone with digestive problems if for no reason except ways of coping with digestive problems.

2-0 out of 5 stars Easy reading with little substance
While this is an easy book to read, understand and even use in your quest to avoid the pain and symptoms of IBS there are several serious shortcomings. First, the author is a layman. She is not a doctor, does not treat IBS or practice any sort of health care. She is a writer. A good writer who draws from a variety of medical sources and credits them diligently, but still not a doctor or academic.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Authoris on target
I have only read the synopsis of the book and the customer reviews. I have 11 years experience as an Industrial Nurse Case Manager. I wholeheartedly assure the secondary gain issues listed are quite true from 3rd party liability cases, workers' compensation cases and medical malpractice. There are a lot of unethical physicians who will causally relate anything to everything, continue treatment when none is warranted, (one case of mine had physical therapy for 15 years and never improved) and keep persons out of work for no objective reason. This is blatant fraud. Other physicians may innocently do this because they lack knowledge of secondary gain and/or symptom magnification. I try to stay away from this type as well as the hired gun physicians who do reap the financial benefits from insurance companies and are not objective either. The plaintiff attorneys coach their clients to drive up medical costs for increased settlement. All claims are greatly increased when pre-existing psychological conditions/disorders (i.e. depression, anger issues, borderline personality disorder) are present. There is a very significant direct cost to the taxpayer (i.e. federal workers' compensation cases, such as postal workers, shipyard workers, any civil service, etc.)and indirect cost, by our increased purchase costs due to the burden of risng insurance premiums which the company or individual must pay. Thus this affects all of us in a very direct way both monetarily and psychologically (decreased co-worker morale when they see a co-worker getting away with this, increased false claims, again because others see how easy it is for false claims, and anxiety caused by job loss when the company closes because they can no longer afford their premiums). I also think other factors color this situation as the general population's work ethic has spiraled downward while their sense of entitlement has sharply increased. This is the real world, not embellished opinion.

4-0 out of 5 stars conflict of interests, anyone?
I would rather prefer that those denying the science behind Dr Malleson's statements would declare their conflict of interests, as it is usually done in scientific papers. Maybe we could have a broader view about their opinions.

5-0 out of 5 stars an excellent overview
This book clearly illustrates the true nature of whiplash injuries - as a vehicle to help ne'er-do-wells exist without actually contributing anything to society.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Unclear book
Not my favorite arthritis book.Too scattered in its approach.I was left confused and a little overwhelmed...but to be fair there is also a lot of very good information to be found within the pages...
5-0 out of 5 stars Natural therapies to end arthritis pain
I highly recommend this book to anyone who has arthritis and who wants to end the pain using a lifestyle approach. The good doctor has given a multifaceted and holistic program that teaches readers how to change lifestyle habits to decrease pain and become more active. The chapter on the PAIN-FREE ARTHRITIS DIET was extremely beneficial to me, as I have rheumatoid arthritis. I was not aware of the food/inflammation/arthritis connection, so this report is cutting edge compared to other books in print.5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent guide for fibromyalgia/osteoarthritis/rheumatoid
If you wish you could ask your doctor questions about getting relief from arthritis pain and stiffness, you could find the answers in this book. Drs. McIlwain and Bruce offer incredibly reasonable and easy to understand suggestions for alleviating arthritis pain that is based on the latest medical journal studies. Pain-Free Arthritis gave me new insight into exercise as a method for ending pain--and it works! I've also found relief using the PAIN-FREE diet, focusing on fresh fruits and vegetables high in antioxidants and phytochemicals. Read more

Doctor Lavid's brilliant exploration of stuttering is at once erudite and accessible. It can be appreciated by the seasoned expert as well the interested layman. Lavid is informative and eloquent. I recommend his work to anyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent insight into a prevalent affliction
Dr. Lavid has written an important contribution to this field. One of the difficulties in apprending stuttering in a complete way is its inherent complexity. Such understanding requires a level of familiarity with interactions between psychological, anatomical, physiological and molecular aspects. These areas are managed superbly by the author; each area is presented concisely with an extent of coverage which will satisfy most readers. For those who wish additional information, sources are provided. An excellent guide to assist those who will be conversing with children and adults who stutter is presented and is extremely valuable. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Great title, but missed the mark
This book holds great promise in the title, however the author fails in two major areas.First, as he explains his therapeutic approach he makes reference to feeling magnetic fields from the subject's body.I highly doubt that this is possible for any human, but even if he is able to do this it is not reasonable to assume that this skill can be transferred.Second, he repeatedly recommends feeling the underlying tissues and bringing them into alignment. While this seems more plausible than feeling magnetic fields, it remains highly doubtful that anyone not doing this on a daily basis will ever develop the skill to feel tissue below several layers of skin, fat, and other connective tissue.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for any practioner
Bill Weintrab presents emerging scientific information for manual therapists and practitioners that specialize in the treatment soft tissue injuries. This book can be appreciated by both practitioner and patient and gives light on the surprisingly dynamic nature of tendons and ligaments. In addition to the case studies he has an in depth chapter on self-help techinques. With the increasing number of injuries to tendons and ligaments from repetitve stress such as carpal tunnel syndrome and sports injuries, it is refreshing to read scientific information as a solid basis for hope in treating these injuies with conservative care

5-0 out of 5 stars Groundbreaking approach for healing injuries
In Weintraub's book he brings clarity and hopefulness to the non-surgical approach to injury (chronic and acute) recovery processes and strategies. He offers insight regarding larger whole-body patterns that influence the injury site and therefore must be addressed in the recovery process. As can be seen in his case studies, treatment is never solely a matter of specific attention to the injury site but must include attention to the related body systems as well.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Changing ideas of ability, disability, behavior norms
Plenty of literary and social references speak of disabled children, but CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES IN AMERICA: A HISTORICAL HANDBOOK AND GUIDE takes a different tactic in considering the historical and social milieu of their issues. Chapters consider changing ideas and perceptions of disability, ability, behavior, and differences with articles surveying all types of disability, different movements in handling such children, and narratives on disability management. An excellent historical overview recommended for any college-level collection strong in health literature.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book was the first step to our son's recovery
Two days after my son was diagnosed with autism, I dragged my mom to the library to see if I could find out what in the world this meant to us.One of the first books that we stumbled on was this book by Karyn Seroussi. After reading several excerpts about her son to my husband, we agreed that we saw a lot of parallels in our own son.By the end of the weekend, we decided to take a leap of faith and implement the GFCF diet that Ms. Seroussi described.
1-0 out of 5 stars Huge guilt trip!
I read this book to try and find more help for my son with autism. After learning about the diets I realized they would be nearly impossible for my family to implement. These diets are very expsensive and my son would probably refuse to eat most foods and recipes talked about in the book.Realizing this I felt extremely guilty that I wasn't willing to do everything possible for my son. I have had my son in early intervention, speech therapy and a very demanding and structured program for over 3 years. These therapies have made a world of difference for him but he is still autistic. So, if I am unable to put him on this diet does this mean I have failed him as a mother?I don't think so.We can only do what we are all capable of doing for our children. We shouldn't be made to feel guilty if we don't do everything that everyone else has done.It would be nearly impossible to try every single thing suggested for helping to improve symptoms of, or even "cure", autism.I say give yourself a big pat on the back if you are doing the best you can for your child with ASD.

5-0 out of 5 stars Unraveling the Mystery of Autism and PDD: A Mother's Story of Research & Recovery
Excellent book! A must read for any parent (or teacher) of a child with autistic spectrum disorder (ASD) or any neurodevelopmental delays, ADHD or allergies. It reads like a suspense novel, with the author/mother as detective, desperately, yet thoroughly trying to find clues to her son's sudden demise. Through her dedication and persevearance, she finds successful treatment for her son, and unravels a series of inexplicable biological mysteries involving foods, allergies, vaccines, viruses and their serious effects on the developing brains of children. It is a wake-up call to what we have previously viewed as "genetic" and "untreatable" and should make the medical community seriously abandon this old paradigm and put effort into establishing a new paradigm, where a causal relationship exists between ASD and its related disorders and biological and environmental triggers. This paradigm shift would dramatically alter the management of children diagnosed with ASD today and in the future. This book shows the power of a determined parent - reminiscient of the story of "Lorenzo's Oil". The moral of the story - don't rely on your child's doctor to tell you about this mode of treatment, or on any nutritional management - they are not prepared to do so. Traditional AMA medicine is geared towards quick diagnosis, treatment with drugs, and possibly some therapies. Often this involves treatment of symptoms, not cause. This book also made me wonder just how many 'troubled' or behaviorally challenged children could benefit from dietary changes, not medication. Mrs. Seroussi has done a great service to autistic and neurodevelopmentally challenged children and their parents. She has put into words an alternative choice for parents and offers hope, something the medical profession as a whole has not only not offered, but at times has suppressed. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars This really works!
Over ten years ago, my former company hired Dr. Imrie to reduce the back injury incidents at their manufacuring plant.Having suffered thru the pain, legal problems, financial problems .... etc., I approached the invitation with skepticism.I followed this program with desperation as nothing else was working. It is not an instant fix, rather it is life commitment (kind of like brushing your teeth everyday). The book explains why your back is hurting, what can be done about it, what can't be done about it, and how to overcome the obstacle of debilitating pain and go on to lead a healthy active life.It takes time (8 min. a day) but it leads to an injury resistant back.Companies who are looking for looking for Occupational Injury prevention should take a second look at this program. I am noting for the record, although having met Dr. Imrie and particpated in his workshop, I am not affiliated or in anyway connected to or profiting from this book. On a personal note, I think it is really funny and quite sad to try to help someone mired in the cycle of pain and debilitation along with the accompanying "quick fixes", pain reliever addiction, alcoholism, self-pity and on and on..., to try to help them with the techniques this book offers and hear them say, "I can't do that!" The difference between this book and the other many books I purchased on back injuries is not the exercises, they are all very similar.Rather Dr. Imrie focuses on the HOW to do them. This one very simple technique makes all the difference between effectiveness and just doing exercises by rote with no results. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars This book put me on the defensive.
While this book does contain useful information about the history of Deaf culture in America, and other questions hearing people may have about Deaf culture, the tone was very confrontational and I felt under attack while reading it.
4-0 out of 5 stars now hear this!
as a hearing student just now entering the Deaf world, i found much of this book hard to read. i didn't want to be guilty by association of many of the prejudices, assumptions, & opressive acts that were described. i was saddened to think that the rather negative bias (though undoubtedly deserved) towards hearing people represented in this book might block me in developing many true relationships with Deaf people. i've, fortunately, found that not to be the case. the Deaf community is much like any other diverse community. the book did definitely help me to open my eyes to many things i was ignorant of & i even had to admit some stereotypical things about myself. i reccomend it to everyone despite their level of participation with this dynamic community.

5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST Reading for everyone working with the deaf!

5-0 out of 5 stars How to Conquer the World with One Hand...And an Attitude
Best "help" book I've read since my 33 year old son had a stroke.Couldn't put the book down and was amazed at how many similar things that we had gone through--AWESOME read for any young person who had a stroke or their caregivers.

5-0 out of 5 stars It gave me hope!
My father is much older than Paul when he suffered his stroke in December of 2000.My father's stroke was very severe and has left him totally paralyzed on his right side and unable to speak or effectively communicate in any manner, which is the same side and conditions that Paul suffered. This book gave me hope that some day my 78-yr. old father may be able to communicate on some level. All speech therapy has been stopped for my father, but after reading this book and seeing what 8 years of therapy has done for Paul, my family is looking into our options once again.I can think of nearly nothing worse than being able to understand most of what is being said around you and not being able to communicate back.People with aphasia are essentially trapped within their own body. Thanks, Paul for having the courage to move forward with your life and to tell your story. It truly gave me hope!!

5-0 out of 5 stars What an attitude! He must be from Philly.
I admit, I am also from Philly, and nobody messes with us. Paul wouldn't accept any diagnosis other than a life that was interesting and fulfilling. It's remarkable how he struggled to get back his body. It's a funny uplifting book that should give inspiration to other head trauma victims. (Anda nice reminder to the rest of us.)Paul and Stephanie have written about regaining a lifestyle they enjoyed in spite of new disablities. I found it fascinating that Paul came back with more of a sense of humor and a more outgoing personality. Imagine a man with aphasia starting conversations with his fellow commuters! What pluck. It's a readable book, for anyone, not just stroke victims. ... Read more
