5-0 out of 5 stars Essential item for people with back pain.
This book was recommended to me by a senior physiotherapist at my local public hospital. It contains an effective set of excercises and advice as to how to prevent and treat back pain.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book changed my life...really.
I had severe back pain for most of my teenage years, but when I got to college my lower back hurt so much that it made it almost impossible for me to sit through lectures. The pain was so bad that I could hardly move from bed on many days.
5-0 out of 5 stars Simple and effective
I had a severe disc herniation at L5-S1.My physical therapist recommended this book.In fact, I have had therapists tell me they are "McKenzie trained."The book is simple to follow and truly helps relieve my sciatic nerve pain.My therapist recommended doing the exercises every 2 hours if I have acute pain.I credit physical therapy and this book with saving me from surgery. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Good Health and a Pain Free Back
This book is much more than a few simple exercises. It taught me a lot of things, from why I should not be lifting heavy things first thing in the morning to what is the proper way to sneeze (looking up). Posture is extremely important. The pain will surely come back if the posture is not corrected, no matter how many exercises you do all these things was necessary for me to learn from this book.Read the book and learn from the advice about good posture etc,.So the book really helps me, and I completely recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book!
I suffer from both RA and Ankylosing Spondolitis.I found out through this program that I cannot eat wheat, milk or dairy products, eggs, sugar or coffee. When I'm good at sticking to it, I'm almost in complete remission. When I cheat, I pay for it. Within 20 minutes of consuming one of the above items, my fingers begin to swell and get stiff, and by the next morning I'm in a lot of pain. I have been able to stop taking the Methatrexate and Lodin which were very hard on the liver and destroyed my immune system. This is a really great program and it works if you have the discipline and self motivation to go through it and stick it out. If you are completely lazy and looking for an easy fix, this may not be for you. It's hard!It has been hard for me to give up coffee, Lucky Charms for breakfast, hot chocolate, cookies and some other comfort foods. But in the end I have a lot of new favorites, my inflamation and pain have disappeared, I've lost weight and my skin looks fabulous to boot. God bless Barbara Allan! She's an angel.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not for Everyone
Maybe i'm being shortshighted, but i feel as if the many concessions i already have to make with this disease are hard enough to incorporate into my daily life, without also including such intense dietary changes.I work full-time, including travel and client entertainment making it very difficult to always control every morsel i consume.also, don't share the author's background and early diagnosis symptoms.Mine are coming more slowly and i am entrusting my treatment and long-term care to my Rheumy.Sort of wish I had spent the money on a good yoga or meditation tape instead.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have Book for People with Chronic Health Problems
There are a number of books about Food Intolerances that are invaluable to people who have chronic health problems without knowing the cause of their problems.Since physicians are often ignorant in the area of Type III or Delayed Onset Food Intolerance, these books are often the only hope for people to regain their good health and in many cases their lives.Barbara Allen in her book Conquering Arthritis contributes detailed information to the topic that I have not seen in any other book. Her own story is inspiring and her systematic approach to solving her personal health crisis mystery is a blueprint for others to find their personal way back to good health. To her credit she did not only fight and win her own battle with ignorance, pain and deteriorating health but had the drive and compassion to get the message out there to help all of us with her excellent research and conclusions.I was diagnosed with IBS and Fibromyalgia and Arthritis and Insomnia and Chronic Fatigue and CTS and was offered lots of prescription drugs, some of which I took for a while, but nothing helped like avoiding the foods to which I am allergic.Barbara Allen made me aware of hidden additives in foods and vitamins that I needed to stop eating but that I would not have suspected. Thanks for sharing, Barbara Allen!!! ... Chronic Myofascial Pain Disease(in 2006 was classified as a disease)is a very debilitating muscle disease, there is almost no information out there on this disease. This book teaches you how to help youself! I have been suffering from it severly for 6 1/2 years since I was 19, the information in this book gave me so much hope! This book have everythings from finding out what is happening to your muscles and body, to finding a DR to being an advocate for yourself These things are very important!!!! My Doctor encouraged this so much, this book was just the WAY to do these things! As a patient you have to understand what is going on in your body to get better. This book is so incrediblly inportant for someone suffering from CMP or fibromyalgia!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very comforting :alot ofthings make sense now
This book not only gives constructive direction but also removes alot of confusion. The Author has the diseases and knows first hand the situations that result. After reading this book I realize that I should purchase a few more copies for my doctor and family. The price is very low for the quality of information. After reading it I was profoundly relieved to know all the details. There are things that really don't make sense are real, and are not my imagination.

4-0 out of 5 stars Diagnosis Unknown
It's no wonder fibromyalgia is so difficult to diagnose because of all the overlapping and/or symptoms of so many other diseases and problems.I thought the areas on choosing the right doctor were very good. One thing that was left out for self-treating someone with fibromyalgia was the use of the Theracane. My daughter who has fibromyalgia has said that she couldn't live without her Theracane because she can reach the pressure/trigger points and massage them herself, which seems to give her temporary relief from pain.(I have nothing to do with Theracane...its sale or promotion.)The book is very enlightening for uninformed family and friends of those who have this terrible syndrome.

5-0 out of 5 stars Keep Your Power
I bought this book because I have suffered with Fibromyalgia for 7 years.I belive if we get all the education we possibly can, this enables us to be more active in our health management.

Knees bees. Whatever. Just got this book a week ago, so as far as helping knees per se, don't know, but most impressed with it. These few yoga exercises limbers up the entire hip, leg area. It identifies which side is tighter. She even rightly points out to go barefoot often to strengthen feet that have been too conditioned to shoes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simple, non-invasive cure!
It's hard to believe that suffering so long with jaw pain could be alleviated so quickly by just doing some simple exercises! I was pain-free in two weeks, and now I only notice pain during times of stress when I must be unconsciously grinding. Then I resume the exercises and once again, the pain disappears! Try these exercises before you take any other action! Some 'cures' make the problem worse, and this is such a simple, inexpensive, and affective solution!

4-0 out of 5 stars Another good book in need of a copyeditor
If you're already familiar with the terms 'lateral' and 'medial', then you'll know that "Latoral joint Compartment" in figure 2-1A&B on p. 29 is probably not what they meant, especially since it's across from the "Medial joint Compartment" in the same illustration. And then again on p. 31 in figure 2-3A&B there is the "Later Menicus" [Lateral Meniscus] across from the "Medial Meniscus"

I bought this book because I have a damaged miniscus in my knee. This book allowed me to understand what exactly went wrong with my knee.It enabled me to understand my surgeon when he explained my options. It is a good value and well worth the asking price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exersise managment
This is a great book for anyone who needs a reference for the human body in design and action. It can give you an insight as to how and why each part works in an easy and efficient manner thought up by some of the best in the field of human anatomy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Helped me to learn insertions and nerves supplying muscles
This book was wonderful for helping me get a better understanding of the muscles of the body.Being a new fitness trainer, it's really important to help my clients as much as possible.I also used another reference which was much easier to read then big anatomy and physiology textbooks.I highly recommend "Key Facts for Anatomy and Physiology" by Patrick Leonardi. This book gets to the point and explains the muscles, bones, nerves and blood supply of the body in reader-friendly language. Both books helped me very much to get a better understanding of the body.

1-0 out of 5 stars How can there be missing pictures?
The diagrams are a little too schematic, showing some muscle bellies well displaced from their actual positions. What's worse is that the software doesn't have any pictures available for many of the muscles listed. There was also at least one difference from Gray's Anatomy that I think Gray got right and this book didn't.If I'd been able to try this before buying, I wouldn't have bought it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Finally somebody wrote this book!
As a massage therapist I see many clients whom "conventional" medicine has failed, who were tired of taking pain medication. Myofascial pain can be seem mysterious and there is a very high rate of misdiagnoses. For anyone who has suffered from shoulder pain the often contradictory information out there about prognosis and treatment can be bewildering. I tell my clients that they must become their own advocates, learning as much about their anatomy as possible and becoming experts on specialized areas of medicine that their doctors might not have time to research thoroughly. This is easier said than done, however, as most of us don't have the time or resources to find and sift through available studies and alternatives.
1-0 out of 5 stars Please do your homework first.
It is a widely known medical fact that frozen shoulder, also known as adhesive capsulitis, is a condition where the joint capsule (the tissue around the actual ball and socket shoulder joint) has become fibrotic- just look it up on the internet. Having undergone this fibrosis, the capsule is thickened and thus shoulder motion becomes limited. It is a self-limiting condition, according to the many natural history studies that follow people with this condition for years, which means that the shoulder capsule gradually returns to normal over time.

5-0 out of 5 stars A 'must read' for everyone who deals with backs
Everyone who deals with backs, either in sports (athletes, coaches, trainers), physicians, therapists, and back pain patients themselves, should read this book. I am a physician who specializes in back disorders and back pain. I have followed Dr. McGill's reseach for many years and it has revolutionized my practice like nothing else. One of my top priorities with back pain patients is to review what exercises they have been given in the past.I invariably stop them from doing several excercises that Dr. McGill's research has proven to be quite harmful for the back. I Substitute the 'big three' excercises that are described in this book, and many of the patients need no further intervention. There is a great deal of misinformation regarding back excercise, and many of the excercise routines used in sports, schools, military, and fitness centers are harmful. That is why this book is so important; not because it gives another fitness guru's opinion, but because it gives good, scientifically based facts on one of the tougher clinical issues from a world renown expert. Thank you Dr. McGill - keep the research coming!
5-0 out of 5 stars A Good Source of Infromation
I refer to this book many times over over the years and has helped clear up that tricky patient that is not getting better as fast as they and you the doctor would like. Great source of information for any doctor regardless of how many years in practice. Also highly recommend a book I found to be execellent source for rehabing my patients is called The Backsmart Fitness Plan by Dr.Adam Weiss. A DC who has written a very good and detail source of exercises that patients suffering from back or neck pain can do and make progress. These books add many useful tips to my practice.

5-0 out of 5 stars For Every Doctor
This book is full of information that every doctor who sees patients should have in their office. A must have , detail of structure issues and resvoling layout and protocol.Highly recommended. Also recommend The Backsmart Fitness Plan By Dr. AdamWeiss, a book written for pateint care in laymen's term for a complete full body workout. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Dr. Batmanghelidj received his formal medical education atSt. Mary's Hospital Medical School of London University. He providesfor the layman a clear and comprehensive book on the origins of chronicpain. His clinical and scientific research exposes, for the firsttime, that recurring "chronic pains" are a signal system of the bodyindicating severe general or local dehydration. Most of these painscan be relieved simply by drinking water. Instead, however, the patientoften receives costly pharmaceutical medications which treat ratherthan cure. Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Pass The Black Cherry Juice
I shouldn't be commenting on this, since I have not read the book. I don't know if I'm repeating information from the book, but as a Gout sufferer, I feel compelled to mention that black cherry juice or concentrate helped relieve the pain in my toe and ankle. Your mileage may vary, but Google it and there seems to be plenty of anecdotal evidence that it works.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of those great small books.NOT snake oil.
This is an excellent concise but comprehensive book on the gout for the lay reader. It would be better not to have gout, but if you do need to manage it, this is the best book I've seen. The size, title and the photo on the cover gave me the impression that the book was likely to be simplistic and wrong. In fact, it strikes a good balance between readability and detail. It also turns out that Dr Emmerson has published quite a few papers on gout in serious peer reviewed journals.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT BOOK - NEW GOUT SUFFERS MUST READ!

5-0 out of 5 stars Plan to Win is a must read for all people living with RA
Plan to Win is a must read for all people living with RA. From signs and symptoms, to treatment, to quality of life, this book covers it all. I use Plan to Win as a resource for many of my questions on medications, lab tests, exercises, websites, and finding the right health care providers to meet my needs. I have had RA for 15 years and with the help of Plan to Win and the new medication I am taking (a biologic), I feel 100% now. I thank Cheryl Koehn and her team for empowering me to learn more about RA and take better care of my body and my health. Thank you.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best book for people with rheumatoid arthritis
I am a rheumatologist in private practice.I see many patients with rheumatoid arthritis. 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent guide!
I found the read to be very interesting and informative. It's the first book that I've read which describes RA from such a personal and eloquent view. It is filled with vital information and facts. It doesn't concentrate on a medical treatment only - it takes exercise, attitude, and emotional wellness into account. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive yet understandable
The book covered a lot of ground, yet was easy to understand and read. You will definitely understand more about the types of problems prolo handles, and how it works. Highly recommended to anybody considering this form of treatment.

3-0 out of 5 stars Promising but am still somewhat skeptical
I have suffered from dire chronic muscular pain in my neck and shoulder and low buttocks regions for well over two years and it's been hell to say the least. I have done everything imaginable to fight this - I have seen three accupuncturists, three massage therapists and four physical therapists, taken NSAIDs, RICE techinques and yet my pain still persists.5-0 out of 5 stars prolo Miracle!!!
I found this book and the treatment of Prolo for my wife. She had suffered for two years after a fall that caused chronic whiplash syndrome. She was off of work for months at a time and had severe headaches, vertigo, insomnia, terrible constant migraines, memory loss, shooting pains in arms, neck, and shoulder, as well as depression. We had mri's, cat scans, x- rays, accupuncture, accupressure, physical therapy, chiro., and nothing helped. Other doctors said there was nothing wrong and she was faking it!!!! Within days of first treatment we knew something was different. Within 6 weeks she was back at work and has been steadily improving. She is about 90% totally healed after four treatments. Insurance did pay about 75% of the cost also. Buy this book if you have chronic pain, buy it today and start to live again!!!! Dr. Hauser is MY personal hero, he gave me back my wife!!!!!!!!! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars This book is th BEST!
I suffer with severe Rheumatoid Arthritis in my entire body! With inflammation in my entire body, mobility is very very limited! I tried these exercise every morning for a week. I couldn't believe how much my mobility had improved in that week. Now I do the exercises everyday at least twice a day. This book is definetly worth buying.

5-0 out of 5 stars This Book Does Work
After checking ARTHRITIS:WHAT EXERCISES WORK out of the library for the third time in a year, I broke down and bought it.It's terrific. The exercises are tied to specific joints, ranging from the small, fingers and toes, on to shoulders, hips, knees, etc. Some you can even do in bed, but many are much more challenging--there is a range.Doing these for just a couple of weeks increased my flexibility tremendously--washing my back, tieing my shoes, and so forth much easier. And I'm a 53 year old professional female who is in "good shape" with aerobics and strength training--but the targeted flexibility/joint exercises here were new to me.I highly, highly recommend. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Bible
My wife refers to this book as "The Bible" because it appears to be the authoritative source for information on JRA. This disease struck our child in the Systemic Onset version, and after months of fumbling around by the local care providers we got a diagnosis that led us to this book and to an appointment with Dr.Lehman personally in NYC. We found the book to be very useful and after meeting Dr. Lehman we regard it as indispensible. We would highly recommend the book to anyone with a child suffering from this family of afflictions.

5-0 out of 5 stars The DefinitiveBook on Juvenile Rheumatic Diseases
Thomas J. A. Lehman MD is Chief of Pediatric Rheumatology at the Hospital for Special Surgery, in New York City and also Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at Weill Cornell Medical Center. He is considered the leading specialist in the world. As President of a charity that helps children in Russia, I have asked Dr. Lehman to volunteer his services and speak at seminars in Moscow to hundreds of rheumatoid pediatric doctors. He has done this several times over the past 5 years. He has also visited other countries as well besides allowing specialists from many other countries learn at his side. As a result of his unselfishness he has improved the lives of thousands of children throughout the world. He has written a book that every parent who has an afflicted child should read.My reason for writing this review is to assure the reader the he/she can rely on what it says, as there is no one who is more knowledgeable than the author. As can be gleaned from other reviews, the book has been written to be easily understood by the general reader.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful - must have for JRA
