A TRUE GOD SEND
This is one THE best books I have ever read about Lupus. As a Lupus sufferer, it is important to know aspects of this illnesses. This book goes from the diagnostic phaze to the definition of and the treatment of Lupus. It is very detailed and concise in its approach. Doctor Wallace must be one heck of a rheumatologist because he took very complex subject matter and made it coherent for the average American. This book is filled with information on various treatments for Lupus, a prolifera of testing procedures and an explanation of co exsisting autoimmune diseases. Any individual with Lupus, their families, physicians and social workers should have this truly well constructed text!
A God Send
This book is one of the best out there on Lupus.Mr. Wallace disects the disease into many parts because Lupus had many frustrating facets to it.After reading this book, I am going to talk to my doctor who does not think that I have Lupus, because I don't fit neatly into a box.I can't wait to tell this doctor that my last blood test showed the anitphospholipid levels were extremely high.I noticed it, he didn't.Thank you Mr. Wallace for naming the symptoms, and the cause of it.My "gut feeling" was right.

This book can save your life
I wish I'd purchased this book when I was first diagnosed with SLE in 1991. This book shows specifically how the disease attacks each organ system, relevant research, and treatment. In essence, it can help the patient know when a sypmtom is serious (e.g., chest pain), and help them know the best questions to ask the rheumatologist to maximize their treatment. ... Read more

Great book for those newly diagnosed.
The "New Hope for People with Lupus" was very informative. It is an easy format to follow and helpful for those newly diagnosed or reading their first book on Lupus. The coverage of both traditional and non-traditional therapies was solid. I recommend this book for those who are new to Lupus.

Unimpressed
I am a person with a possible diagnosis of Lupus, looking for information about the disease.While I found Dr. Wallace's handbook on Lupus very helpful, "New Hope" was full of silly platitutes and assumptions about my experiences of the disease (trying to be funny and sympathetic, but not mirroring my experiences at all--I found it rather condescending).It did not cover in depth alternative therapies as I had hoped.

Informative and optimistic
This a good book for any Lupus patient.I have SLE and found this book inforamtive, but it is interlaced with optimism and cases of people who were able to reduce their symptoms.It has everything.. the basics, meds, alternative therapies, coping and relationships, tips on what to ask the doc.This is a good book. ... Good for Couples
This book was an excellent source of information.While Daniel Wallaces' book is by far the best written on Lupus, Ms. Dibner writes with passion, and she offers good advice.I read this in one sitting.

Very Good informative book
I thought this was a good book for anyone who is trying to learn more about lupus. I have had the disease for many years, and still found things I was not sure of. I would reccomend it to others for sure. I would also recommend Stolen Moments, as it shows someone living with lupus in a differnt way. Both are excellent books for lupus patient to read.

Laura Chester is a gem.She writes and excellent journey of her issues with Lupus SLE.It is a wonderful insight to her soul and can help hundreds in dealing with this terrible disease.I think a big, big, big part of the diary is how she discribes her physician, Dr. Jesse Stoff.This medical doctor writes the forward to this amazing book and is mentioned many times on how he helped Laura understand this disease and what she had to go through to immune her immune function and left her body beat the disease.What Lupus patients have to understand is that Laura Chester's journey and experience is being true to herself on why the disease happened in the first place because of stress and imbalanced lifestyles and dealing with infection.All of these things are outlined in Dr. Jesse Stoff's two other books, The Prostate Miracle and Chronic Fatiuge Syndrome: The Hidden Epidemic.What's interesting in the updated version of Lupus Novice is that Laura doesn't even remember a lot of the pains she went through because she's on the road to recovery and that the past has nothing to do with her future of wellness, since it was her past issues in her life that caused the stress which lead to her disease.This is truely a fasinating book that I recommend at our Institute of Anti-Aging and Longevity to all our Lupus patients along with Dr. Stoff's other two books.In fact, the American Lupus Foundation, highly recommends Lupus Novice also to all the people with Lupus. A fascinating and insightful journey towards healing
I found this book by accident in a bookstore one day, and ended up on the floor reading the whole thing in one sitting. It is a compelling and insightful account of the author's journey towards healing from SLE, exploring various natural and conventional therapies, and eventually findingrelief using anthroposophical medicine, a system somewhat like homeopathy developed by Rudolph Steiner.This also led me to investigate this form of medicine and the field of anthroposophy in general. ... A good book from a sufferer
This book is written by Sharon Moore, who suffered from SLE (Systemic Lupus Erythomatus or simply called Lupus) and who was told that it is an autoimmune disorder and she may not recover from it. She did recover from it by studying alternative approaches to health, which she describes well in this book. Her story is spread over 13 chapters and an epilogue. She talks of the effect of liver on health, diet and health, nutritional supplements, herbs, beneficial fats and oils, toxins in food, problems from toxins in dental work, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Mind-Body Therapies, Caring for Your Spirit and interestingly the last chapter, "How to Begin" a good road map. The epilogue is a good graphic portrayal of her recovery from a debilitating illness.
Not really a lupus book
Reader beware. Except for the second chapter ("What is Lupus?"), this book isn't really about lupus. It is, rather, a somewhat haphazard introduction to naturopathic practices by a lupus sufferer who happens to be a competent writer. A Very Valuable Book, Whether Suffering from Lupus or Not.
Sharon Moore's book combines many valuable attributes.First, it tells a fascinating story of the author's search to discover the nature of her frightening illness.I could sense that, in spite of being so ill, she was determined to discover the most effective therapies to bring the disease under control.In the process, she has done an enormous amount of research that she shares with her readers.Read more

A very good source of easy to understand information
Mary Horowitz does a great job providing powerful empowering information to Lupus patients and their families. Lupus is complex and affects so many different parts of one's body (and mind). I date a lady who has had Lupus for many years, but was only diagnosed about a year and a half ago. Prior to the correct diagnosis, doctors weren't able to pull together all of the different symptoms and positive ANA test. Even though I have been involved in medicine all my adult life, I had never "seen" a complete Lupus patient until I my friend was DX'd. After reading Horowitz's book, I feel much better able to support my friend and understand her symptoms and effects of Lupus on her body. I recommend this book for family members as well as Lupus patients.

My rheumatologist is Dr. Mark Horowitz
I was so happy when I finally read this book.Dr. Mark Horowitz is one of the best rheumatologists out there and when he diagnosed me with Lupus 3 years ago, I never thought I would understand any of it.Thank goodness he took the time and effort to participate in this book and actually sit and explain everything to me. Any time I have a question, I have no problem going back to the book and if it is not there I call his office and he explains anything I want to know.I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for some answers and not because my doctor wrote the book but because it is a GOOD book.

Good info for starting out
When I was first diagnosed, and had little to no clue about lupus, I bought this book. More because of the pink edging on the cover than its applicable title. It turned out to be very useful & filled with good information. Think of it as a "starting off" point though. It isn't as "nitty gritty" medical as it could be, nor is it a female empowerment book. A fantastic Novel
This is the first book I have ever read that I wanted to read over again. It is so full of human emotions that everyone could easily identify with some part of it. I also have lupus, and although it is different for everyone, I could feel each sumptom that Julie suffered. The Best
This is one of the best books i'veever read !!! This book really touched me from the inside, and even though i knew it was imagenary, i couldnt stop crying. I felt like Janie was me, and that was me who had to say "goodbye" to the world that she didnt want to leave, but had no choice. I think this book teaches you a good lesson, and sends you a message, to appreciate life as its given, and enjoy life to the fullest because you never know what's waiting in front of you, and life can be really suprising.

The Perfect Valentine Gift for Everyone
This was one wonderful book that I could not put down. It tells of living with an illness in ways that only someone doing that might understand.It shows how love can come into our life at any given moment, and end in the same way. Lupus Patients and Familys Must Order this!!
I am a Lupus Patient and had NO idea what my family would go through when I had my diagnosis. It was right there for me to read and grasp but I didn't until after the fact. I watched my family get torn apart and almost lost my number one supporter (my husband) If I had a picture into what I was going to go through I would of been able to prepare and understand what was going on. Well this book is open and honest and would provide that cushion. I recommend it highly

Alifesaver!!
I have been diagnosed with Lupus for almost 40 years, but I was undiagnosed for 10 years. Finally an Internist put together my collection of ailments and diagnosed me as having Lupus. This was such a relief but also a frightening time as 40 years ago Lupus was still a fairly unknown. The blood tests, etc. had not yet been fully developed and what information was out there was pretty negative and scary.
Coping With Lupus: Apractical Guide to Alleviating the Chall
I have found this book to be a helpful well rounded guide to Lupus.From the symptoms before diagnosis to after diagnosis, and how to deal with every day challenges and side effects of the disease and treatments.I beleive it is a great jumping off point for the newly diagnosed.It dispells myths, and give a newly diagnosed patient comfort at a time that they may be feeling overwhelmed and desperate by the diagnosis of Lupus.It is a very easy read, as the doctor speaks in layman language rather than complicating things with lot's of medical termonolgy and anatomy terms.For a person who is looking for beginning over view of the disease it is very helpful.But, if you are looking for more datailed information on specific tests, treatments, or the physiology of the disease one would need to look further. ... Great Read
WOW!This is was a well written book and has answered many of my questions.I was pleased to see there was a whole chapter dedicated to Antiphospholipid Antibody Syndrome.This book will stay in my personal library.

collective essays
"Coping With lupus" takes a philosophical approach to the disease. It brings together a collection of essays from different experts. Topics covered include a message of hope, lupus and kids, S.L.E. and genetics,the doctor-patient relationship. The essays are cursory withoutmuch depth. And without providing anything really "new".Ipreviously purchased two other books on the subject (one by Phillips andanother by Dibner). These addressed the topic more comprehensively.

Lupus: The Facts byDr. Graham Hughes (Oxford, England)
Lupus: The Facts, provides alot of much needed information for the Lupus patient. The facts were a bit over simplified and some of the more rare symptons (such as Lupus and Hives) are not addressed. I found Dr. WallacesLupus book much more in depth and informative for the money.

Concise and informative
Dr. Hughes, England's leading lupus specialist, has written a concise and impressively informative book. It's not as thick or as detailed as Wallace's The Lupus Book and is light on nephritis information, but LupusFacts is well organized and delivers important information quickly andunderstandably. It also gives a slightly different perspective fromAmerican medicine.It's less intimidating than Wallace's or Dr. Lahita'sbooks so it's a good introduction to this often misunderstood disease.Atthe same time, it would still make a good addition to the experienced lupuspatient's library. ...
