4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book Foreshadows Cure
Dr. Green's resume shows that he is the foremost expert on this subject that I've read to date. This book at least comments on and often answers many questions that have risen in the quest to learn about topics such as celiac disease, wheat allergy, gluten intolerance, and the subtleties of differences in diagnoses and interpretations among the medical community and others.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hypothyroidism Review - Excellent Information
I found this book to be very informative and factual. For those of us living with Hypothyroidism, this is an excellent book.P.S.Find a doctor who will listen to your symptoms as a whole and not try to treat each symptom individually, such as the book carefully guides you.Be persistent in your search, as there are actually doctors out there who WILL listen and take the time to help, rather than succumbing to the HMO drive thru approach, as my first "primary" care physician did -- stating that my blood levels were NORMAL, when in fact they were not.Be educated in your condition -- as there are treatment options which will bring you out of your "fog and fatigue" and make you feel like a real person again.

5-0 out of 5 stars A TRUE GOD SEND
This is one THE best books I have ever read about Lupus. As a Lupus sufferer, it is important to know aspects of this illnesses. This book goes from the diagnostic phaze to the definition of and the treatment of Lupus. It is very detailed and concise in its approach. Doctor Wallace must be one heck of a rheumatologist because he took very complex subject matter and made it coherent for the average American. This book is filled with information on various treatments for Lupus, a prolifera of testing procedures and an explanation of co exsisting autoimmune diseases. Any individual with Lupus, their families, physicians and social workers should have this truly well constructed text!
5-0 out of 5 stars A God Send
This book is one of the best out there on Lupus.Mr. Wallace disects the disease into many parts because Lupus had many frustrating facets to it.After reading this book, I am going to talk to my doctor who does not think that I have Lupus, because I don't fit neatly into a box.I can't wait to tell this doctor that my last blood test showed the anitphospholipid levels were extremely high.I noticed it, he didn't.Thank you Mr. Wallace for naming the symptoms, and the cause of it.My "gut feeling" was right.

3-0 out of 5 stars Lean on Me
This book is most useful for the newly diagnosed. It had some good advice for those who have been living with MS for a long time (for instance the medical card people with MS should carry), but I found a lot of what Ms. Davis advocating not realistic for those of us severely affected by the disease; i.e. in a wheelchair, unable to drive, very dependent on others for most activities.I could go along with her until I got to the part of the book where she doesn't take any of the approved MS medications...I then surmised that she and I do not suffer from the same brand of MS.Positive thinking is important in dealing with any form of this nasty disease, but sometimes it is just not enough.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great, Informative Bood
A very informative, much needed book with the baby boomers getting older. We need this information. This is unknown information to the majority of people because we are taking care of our parents and our children. It has information on conventional as well as homeopathic and naturalistic method.I bought three books: one for a cancer patient, one for my sister who is a patient liaison, and one for myself.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pathways to empowerment for MS and healthier living!
"Lean on Me" had me in tears because when the neurologist instructed Nancy Davis to retire to her bed -- forever -- she disregard his "higher knowledge" and found her own.Nancy really inspired me because of her powerful will to take action and make "roads" where they were few. I was moved to tears by her unwillingness to take to bed and the TV remote but rather get rid of the "congestion" in your life which included divorcing her husband.

1-0 out of 5 stars A Disappointment
Graves' Disease In Our Own Words, by Jake George and Nancy Patterson, was a disappointment. I expected a great deal more. I hoped that a book endorsed by a national organization on Graves' disease would provide fairly up-to-date information, but this book has outdated information, and a number of weak and scanty sections.3-0 out of 5 stars another kind of bias
Jake did a fairly lousy job in this book which contains many of wrong information. He went into the other extreme of bias from that of Elaine Moore in her book Graves Disease: a practical guide. While Elaine tends to promote ATD for long time use to achieve remission, Jake tends to lead all patients into radical treatment such as RAI and surgery. 4-0 out of 5 stars Saved me mountains of worry!!
After being diagnosed with GD my doctor wanted to immediately perform RAI although I didn't have an enlarged gland. I knew nothing about the disease and was scared. My intuition told me there may be another way. This book taught me all I needed to know and gave me the insight and courage to persuade my doctor to let me try PTU first. In Our Own Words confirmed from the start that aggressive treatment wasn't always necessary. I took PTU for only 3 months and responded so well I am now in remission. However, I learned from the book the serious nature of GD and how to work closely with the doctor and lab results. IT's an on going journey. This book served as an important first navagational tool. An update on my condition 6/25/04: I had a recurrance of all hyper symptoms after only one month remmission. I opted to try PTU again, still with good results in bringing down my T4 but I'm constatantly juggling the dose. I still sense this is the way to go for me, but I get discouraged. Iwill look at some of the other suggested books on the subject. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars AbsolutelyInsightful!
Dr. Adler shares her experience with Lymphoma. My husband was recently diagnosed with lymphoma. This book tells current and factual information regarding diagnosis, signs & symptoms, side effects & treatment. When I can understand the diagnosis, I don't fear it. I would highly recommend this to anyone with any type of cancer, especially lymphoma. Judith Hafner

4-0 out of 5 stars Wish I'd read it sooner!
I read this book after I completed my last round of R-CHOP and sure wish I'd read this book before I had started my treatments!Even so, it is full of helpful information. There are lots of technical terms and complete sections that I just couldn't understand, but what I did read was informative. If you're looking for a book that will help you cope with a long term living with Lymphoma, don't buy this book. It's really more for how to cope with the treatments, side effects from the different forms of chemo, what to expect in the future, etc.The author, being a doctor, was certainly not very proactive about her illness until she found out that it was non-hodgkins lymphoma. All of her odd symptoms were misdiagnosed and mis-treated for quite a while before she was finally diagnosed accurately. This in itself is a lesson, but unless you have lymphoma, you wouldn't be reading this book, so it's not very helpful to the lymphoma patient except to show us that those in the medical field aren't perfect.

4-0 out of 5 stars I'm not the Lymphoma patient, but.....
This book was the best source of information for both my husband and I as we go through treatment. It answered questions and helped formulate others for the Dr. to answer. It is by my bedside everynight. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Interested in the nitty-gritty technical details?
Excellent information.Extremely technical. Not easy to read and understand for the lay person.

2-0 out of 5 stars Need a translator
I am disappointed in this book mainly because it is so technical and hard to read. The reviews made it sound like it was easy to read, that is one of the reasons I bought it.But, even with a bachelors of science degree, I am having a very hard time getting much out of it.Being thorough is one thing, but it reads like a medical text book with no explanations. If you are in medical school or a practicing physician, you may be able to understand this, but sadly for me, it is way over my head.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent resource for Graves' patients
As a fellow author of books on thyroid disease, I'm impressed with the breadth and depth of this book. Elaine raises interesting questions about Graves' treatments, and this book has helped to shape more debate and analysis about treatment options. An excellent companion book to this title is another book for Graves' patients by Elaine Moore: Thyroid Eye Disease: Understanding Graves' Ophthalmopathy, available on Amazon, too!I'm delighted that it's now possible for Graves' patients to have a more complete home library through Elaine's work.

2-0 out of 5 stars poorly organized, defensively written
I bought this book based on the number of favorable reviews and was disappointed. Poehlmann's tone is defensive, and the book offers more rhetoric than useful information. This is a fine book for those who are already convinced of the mycoplasma theory and the effectiveness of antibiotic therapy, but it for those who are seeking more information, it falls flat, chiefly because it fails to offer a cogent, rational uninflected basis for its views. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Buy it, then read it, and you'll never look at your health the same way again!
This is the book that could change your life.Honest.If you suffer from arthritis, allergies, Herpes, are HIV positive, have asthma or CFIDS or any other chronic illness, this book will change the way you look at your health.Western medicine only wants to suppress the symptoms- this book is about cures! So much of what happens within our bodies is due to sensitivities (or allergies) to anything from shellfish to our own hormones.Once those allergies are cured (YES, they can be cured), your no-longer-distracted immune system will be able to act more normally.I am currently being cleared of my allergies (by my acupuncture doctor) using the methods in this book.I was alergic to paper, red wine, animal dander, my DNA, my hormones, smoke, and a whole host of other things.Halfway through the six week process, my weight is dropping and I'm breathing through my nose. And there's still more improvement to come. Read this book, and trust me, your life will change for the better.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book will change your life!
This book will change your life for the better and your health will never be the same. This book impowered me to eliminate my own allergies and those of friends and family permanately. The author explains in her book by using simple spinal stimulation we can reprogram our immune system to longer react to substances we are treating (dust, mold, foods, etc.).

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
A highly intelligent overview of many illness that are directly or indirectly connected to allergies. What struck me most was the way the author shows a truly deep understanding of the complex causes of eachillness and yet offers meaningful treatment options. It should be notedthat the book is primarily intended as an introduction (though it goesfurther than any introduction) to using NAET - a particular type of allergydesensitisation.NAET is quite revolutionary in its approach and thecombination of insight into disease and intelligent treatment options makesthis book a winner for anyone with immune disorders. So much moresophisticated (though easy to understand) than the vast majority of bookson immune disorders/allergies out there. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book
Don't let the previous review scare you. The quackwatch guys are the quacks themselves. Barrett, who heads up the quackwatch "research", is not a board certified doctor of anything and has been sued a bunch of times. The book itself is excellent and describes a treatment protocol that works. This protocol brought me back from near death when no local doctor could even figure out what was wrongwith me. The protocol has also significantly helped our son who has autism. The "best" specialists told us there was no treatment for our son's autism and he would be permanently institutionalized by the age of 7. However, like many autism kids doing biomedical treatments, including those listed in this book, he has almost recovered. He's now 8 and attends a regular school where he performs on grade level. The treatments in this book work. It's definately worth a look.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for those newly diagnosed.
The "New Hope for People with Lupus" was very informative. It is an easy format to follow and helpful for those newly diagnosed or reading their first book on Lupus. The coverage of both traditional and non-traditional therapies was solid. I recommend this book for those who are new to Lupus.

2-0 out of 5 stars Unimpressed
I am a person with a possible diagnosis of Lupus, looking for information about the disease. While I found Dr. Wallace's handbook on Lupus very helpful, "New Hope" was full of silly platitutes and assumptions about my experiences of the disease (trying to be funny and sympathetic, but not mirroring my experiences at all--I found it rather condescending). It did not cover in depth alternative therapies as I had hoped.

5-0 out of 5 stars Informative and optimistic
This a good book for any Lupus patient.I have SLE and found this book inforamtive, but it is interlaced with optimism and cases of people who were able to reduce their symptoms. It has everything.. the basics, meds, alternative therapies, coping and relationships, tips on what to ask the doc. This is a good book. ... This book could more aptly be named `What We Think We Know About Eczema & Some Things That Might Help You'.There is some interesting information however this is just another doctor who thinks an Eczema rash is CAUSED by scratching. Those of you that have Eczema know that while scratching makes it worse, the bumps or rash itself comes first.
5-0 out of 5 stars I Am Now Eczema-Free!50 Stars!!!
I'd give this book 50 stars if I could... I was going through two large tubes of prescription medication (one immunosuppressant and one corticosteroid) every month until I read this. Now I don't need them at all!Dr. Nasir teaches dermatology at Duke University, and he explains the physiology of eczema and how the skin's barrier function is compromised. This led me to take his discussion of moisturizers seriously and I realized that the one I was using may not have been "thick" enough for my skin.So I pulled out an old container of one that I'd shelved 2 years ago because it felt too greasy and consistently applied it for two weeks and poof, no more eczema! And, BTW, my skin soaks it up in 10-15 minutes so greasiness is not really an issue.I won't mention the brand name here because I'm not sure that I'm allowed to.Also, different brands will work better for different people given that eczema is the result of the effects of about 20 genes. And if the moisturizers that you can find in any drug store won't work, Dr. Nasir recommends one that's more expensive, but available without a prescription that he says is the best moisturizer on the market today.I didn't have to go that far.Bottom line: THANK YOU DR. NASIR!AND ANYONE WITH ECZEMA, BUY THIS BOOK!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Immune System Cure: Great Info

5-0 out of 5 stars This book has saved my life!
I am 40 years old and have been sick since my early 20's. I recently lost faith in the medical system to help and decided to explore an approach of diet and supplementation. This book gave me so much more! When I read this book I had chronic infections, joint pains, burning muscles and collapsed asleep during and after work each day at 5:00. Moducare is miraculous! It ended all of my pain and increased my energy levels. When I ran out of Moducare, it all returned. When I restarted, it all went away. I recommend it now to friends and family. This book is so much more than a one product show however! The author explained in detail how the immune system worked. Then she explained why each supplement helped the immune system. I was able to read her description and pick out the supplements I felt I needed most. Each one improved my condition! I am now pain free. I can stay awake through the work day. I can stay awake and help my kids with their homework. I am off of antibiotics for the first time in 8 years. I will never stop taking the supplements or the Moducare. I wish I had known this 20 years ago, it would have changed my life!

5-0 out of 5 stars The natural route to health

2-0 out of 5 stars there are better books out there
This book seems to be cobbled together from Teitelbaum and various Web sites. It's broad and superficial. Major issues, such as the treatment of hormonal imbalances, are glossed over with a couple of sentences. Worst of all, she describes the relationship between depression and CFIDS and FMS as a "chicken-egg" thing--everyone who gets these was already depressed. There's no evidence whatsoever for this assertion, and saying it in a book damages advocacy and holds us back much in the same way as the dreaded moniker CFS.

2-0 out of 5 stars Ask your doctor, not Ms. Shomon
While Ms Shomon's book quotes several CFS doctors, she relies mainly on Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum's advice which includes a barrage of vitamins. His book is titled "From Fatigued to Fantastic" and he wrote the introduction to Ms. Shomon's.It bothers me that Ms. Shomon presents many alternative therapies that are highly suspect and cost prohibitive for the most of us.However, she speaks from experience having suffered from CFS.It bothers me that she does not mention Kutapressin, an amino acid injection that my doctor and many others in the field use.

2-0 out of 5 stars Dissapointing
The author presents the reader with an Aladdin's Cave of information. However, with only a cursery attempt at analysing the growing body of evidence as to the aetology and pathophysiology of these illnesses, newcomers to FM/CFS are left to determine that which is credible for themselves. With the gathering mountain of clinical and scientific understanding of FM/CFS now available it is disappointing that a book of this recency hasn't taken a more considered and focused approach. Veterans of FM/CFS will be disappointed; newcomers will struggle to determine the wood from the trees. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must-Read for those with Sjogren's Syndrome
This is one of the best books out there on Sjogren's Syndrome.Because Sjogren's Syndrome is an autoimmune disorder that can affect many different parts of the body, it can be very difficult to live with...however, this book goes into detail about every possible manifestation of the disease and how to cope with them. It's very comprehensive and very scientific at times, but well worth the read.

2-0 out of 5 stars Basic Infomation
I found this book typically medically orientated. It was informative and accurate of the current treatments etc. but to be honest I am grateful I read this book after I had researched many forms of therapy. 4-0 out of 5 stars It really helped me understand Sjogren's...
After being given a diagnosis of Sjogren's Syndrome, I really didn't know what it meant. I searched the internet, but really couldn't find any detailed information, so I hit Amazon to find a couple of books. This one was recommended by the Sjogren's Foundation, and was an excellent choice. I was able to see some detailed information, including a break down of the different symptoms. One negative note - it is very medically oriented, so you may need to read through it a few times. ... Read more
