2-0 out of 5 stars Hepatitis C Cookbook
This author puts extreme stress on food being of organic origins, and reducing intake of red meats.Unfortunately she loads recipes with whole milk, cream and butter. The butterfat in these products are is unhealthful as eating meat fat. They should be limited in all diets, but especially in foods prepared for people with liver damage.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent & necessary book
Since being diagnosed with Hepatitis C, I've read Dr. Palmer's book, & continue to review it as questions come up.It is irreplaceable as a resource book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Review on Dr. Palmer's Guide to Hepatitis & Liver Diesease
I have read several books on liver disease but none of them are as good as this one.I have read the first edition a few years ago and it was very helpful since I have Hepatitis B and cirrhosis. It helped me a lot in understanding the treatment such as liver biopsy, interferon and Lamivudine. It probably helped me in staying alive and healthy since I followed her advice ondiet, exercise and taking drugs and supplements.I learned that some herbs, supplements and drugs such as iron, vitamin A and aspirin that Itook previouslly could be harmful.I also restricted my salt content and fat in my food. The second edition is even better since it is even more update on the supplements and drugs. The information on Glucosamine is particularly welcome since it helped a lot in my osteoarthritis.I highly recommend this book to anyone with Hepatitis.

5-0 out of 5 stars Reading this book saved my son from further damage.
My son had so many of the problems and symptoms that Judy's son had early on.Before reading her book, I recognized, on pure instinct only, that the vaccines were harming him, as he became worse and worse after each series. And just like Judy's doctors, our doctor was dismissive and arrogant which drove me to do my own exhaustive research to heal my son.For those whose children have been similarly harmed and want to stop vaccinating, read Vitamin C, Infectious Diseases, and Toxins by Thomas E. Levy for a better understanding of how to protect against infectious disease.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good, not great info, other better resourses available
While the information in the book about herbs is useful, there are better books available that don't make claims of being able to cure HCV. The author reprinted his lab results for blood tests and used his liver enzyme levels as proof. However he did not show us his viral load and antibody test results which is what actually determines the presence of the virus. From experience I know that the herbs this author recommends do help the liver to function better as I have been able to get my enzyme levels back into the normal range with the same herbs, however I still have the HCV antibodies and a high viral load. I am not cured. I might be compelled to try the author's high-priced frozen vials of magic if I saw proof that people were clearing the virus. But none was offered. I thought the author wrote this book with a very angry tone and that the homophobia, sexism and racism was unnecessary and really turned me off.

5-0 out of 5 stars There is Hope!
The reviews by Dave (joke-scam) and Conan (don't be scammed) prompted me to add my own comments.I for one have found Lloyd Wright's information to be extremely helpful as was the man himself.
5-0 out of 5 stars Triumph Over Hepatitis C : An Alternative Medicine Solution Revised Edition
A fine book about the courage and persistance of a man faced with a serious disease, which he ultimately overcomes outside of the "profits first healing and restoration of health second"American allopathic medical system.A review of the herbs and nutritional substances used by Mr. Wright is well founded in the literature (herbal & naturopathic literature) for the treatment of liver disease and the support and restoration of liver health.

5-0 out of 5 stars Information From East & West Re: Hep C
This book is a pleasent blend of information from both methodologies. I have found it to be informative and enlightening. I recommend anyone dealing with the subject of Hep C to check it out.

3-0 out of 5 stars A Groundbreaking Treatment Program
This book has one unique advantage. It is a combination of Western and Eastern Medicine combination for the maximum benefit of the patient.Usually it is very difficult to combine these two treatments as they are different like day and night. But here we see these two go like hand in glove.Authors have thoroughly studied this subject. It is very evident from their explanation of certain conditions and its treatment. It is an absolute life saver for people diagnosed with Hepatitis C and even doctors can learn a lot about this silent killer.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent coverage of an important topic
This book provides lots of practical and informative content concerning Hepatitis C. The book covers the subject from both the traditional and alternative medical points of view.

4-0 out of 5 stars helping patients, friends, and family
Excellent book for patients. I would also suggest any patient, friend, or family alos read "Hepatitis C - through a patient's eyes", written by Suzy Smith, who went through the treatment, and wrote her book to help others with hep c get through the process with a positive outlook.

3-0 out of 5 stars The First Year-Hepatitis C
Although I think this is a good book to start with if you have recently been diagnosed, I find it lacking the depth I was looking for. It gives some great resources which is why I think it is a good book to start with, but at the same time, I would also suggest that you buy the following in addition to this. These are essential:"The Hepatitis C Helpbook"by Misha Ruth Cohen OMD and Robert G.Gish MD, "The Liver Cleansing Diet" by Dr Sandra Cabot, "Herbs for Hepatitis C and the Liver" by Stephen Harrod Buhner, and see if you can find "Who Gets Sick; How Beliefs, Moods, and Thoughts affect your health" by Blair Justice. The treatments out there are scary and can hurt you more than help you, so if you don't feel like poisoning yourself with a biotherapy, this is where to start.

5-0 out of 5 stars Herbs for Hepatitis C and the Liver
This is an essential book for Hep C.I have used the herbal protocol for 8 months and brought my viral load down to 69,000 and it is still dropping. Before I read this book, I had almost convinced myself that traditional treatment was the only way, even with its horrible side effects. Now, I am so glad that I found this book, contacted Dry Creek Herb Farm (referenced in the book) and started my daily herb treatments. The only side effect of the herb is that they don't taste very good, but with the results I have had they are starting to taste pretty good. The cost is very affordable also.Thank you Stephen Harrod Buhrner and Dry Creek Herb Farm.

5-0 out of 5 stars Invaluable knowledge for those with HCV

4-0 out of 5 stars for patients, their familyand friends
This is a very good book, from a patient' perspective. However, I would recommend reading this book, then reading another similar book, MORE DIRECTLY RELATED TO PATIENTS, by the title of "Hepatitis C - through a patient's eyes",by Suzy Smith, author

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
I gave this a five because I really like the Dummies books. I've read other books, so the info isnt really new to me. This book though is still resourceful. A good first step about learning about HCV.

5-0 out of 5 stars loving someone with Hep C
This book is so informative ! Information at your fingertips that you can just pick up and scan and read bits a pieces at time. When you have a loved one living with this you feel helpless and a little lost and this book really helps you see how to understand what the person with this disease is living with each day.Comprehensive basic information that you can ask intelegent questions, because without this knowledge you don't even know what to ask or how to be there to help andbe more compationate. No one wants to say 'I wish I had known more about this so I could have helped"... after the fact.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must read for those with Hepatitis C
This is an amazing story, I could not put it down. It is the absolute best book I've read on alternative medicine for Hepatitis sufferers, containing comprehensive information on not only herbs and supplements, but also nutrition. There are testimonials from many others who have followed Mr. Wrights path and recommendations who have gotten well, or who are able to enjoy life again inspite of having the virus. I am immensely overjoyed to know that there are alternatives to chemotherapy, and am grateful that this author took the time to write this book and share his experience and knowledge. If you have hepatitis, or know someone with it, get this book and read it. The book also contains a toll free number and website so you can learn more. Outstanding book!

5-0 out of 5 stars I Loved This Book!
If you or anyone you care about (or anyone you know) is infected with HCV you have to read this book. I received my copy on Friday and flew through it over the weekend. I am so grateful to have found it that I had to come right back to this site to share... I am so tired of dismissive doctors and either misinformation or no information at all.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars You are not alone
This book changed my attitude about having this disease and the frustration I felt with doctors who either didn't know much about the condition, or didn't seem to care. The doctors I saw (and I've been to 5 before I found one who supports a holistic approach) left me feeling depressed and hopeless. I even nicknamed one the "Grim Reaper." That is how horrid it was to deal with him. Reading about others who felt like I do, and who have had similar experiences really helped to give me the mindset to fight this disease. The doctors made me want to give up. I feel much more positive today and I am taking action with my diet to help myself to heal. I highly recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars The truth will set you free
I loved this book; I have been taking herbal products for HepC, and many times have been asked if there are other people like me, and now I just show themthis book. Itis full of emails, phone calls, and responses from people just like me, and once I started reading it I couldn't put it down. It is very well written and edited, andI am ordering 5 more copies when I'm done with this review. Thank you, Lloyd Wright for writing this book!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT BOOK ON HEP C!!!
I can't stress enough how much this book has helped me to learn more about hepatitis C. Matthew Dolan explains important things you want to know about, like PCR and genotypes and he gives an anology on genotypes that helps the new patient learn so easily. There's just so much great hep C info that this book has, it is a "must have!" I often tell people to get this book when they first tell me of their newly diagnosis of hep C. It's the best and I refer to my copy almost "daily!"

5-0 out of 5 stars The Hepatitis C hand Book
This book is a must have for all who work with people with the hepatitis C, have Hepatitis C, or loves someone who has it. This book saves lives ! Thank you Mr. Dolan.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Light in a Sea of Despair
I undertook a two-year very brutal drug treatment for HCV, and was recently miraculously cleared of the disease. There were times I felt likegiving up, but relied again and again on the encouraging information Igleaned from this book. It is informative, well-written, and emotionallysupportive. My Doctor wanted a copy too, since sadly, there is littleinformation availible in the medical community. 5-0 out of 5 stars The BEST ever-necessary reading for EVERYONE!!!
I do not even have Hepatitis C and this was an excellent book to read. I learned about pain and healing and love and kindness. It was no doubt one of the best books I have ever read. The format of information and personal experience makes it easy to read as well as educational for everyone. I would like to read more books of this kind from this author. Let's hope she comes out with something else very soon.

this book is an absolute necessessity for victims of Hepatitis C, to help them through the violent extremes of treatment, and to make them aware that there is a very real hope for living an even better life than before, and feeling good about themselves.

5-0 out of 5 stars the best book on HCV
I have Hepatitis C and I have read every book that Amazon sells on the subject of Hepatitis C and then some. This is a gem, the best, most objective information you will find out there. I appreciate the fact that the authors are open to alternative treatments but most importantly they are not puppets for the pharmaceutical industry. Great care needs to be taken when reading the extreme approaches to treating HCV. On the one hand you have internationally renowned hepatologists who liken the side effects of milk thistle to interferon and on the other hand, those who give you outright dangerous advice like Shark Cartilage & Colloidial Silver treatments. "Living Healthy with Hepatitis C" provides well-balanced, good advice. I also recommend the PDR for Supplements and the PDR for Herbal Medicines.

5-0 out of 5 stars Authoritative and warm
This book struck exactly the right chord for the hepatitis C sufferer who is feeling overwhelmed but wants scientifically rigorous information in a form that he or she can use. It is full of clear, factual answers to the question every hep C positive person has, with the scientific bases explained well but in a nonintimidating way.Read more

Editorial Review

In her early 50s, Australian historian Inga Clendinnen fell ill with acute liver disease. "'Fall' is the appropriate word," she writes. "It is ... like falling down Alice's rabbit hole into a world which might resemble this solid one, but which operates on quite different principles." Her imaginative, unconventional memoir mirrors the hallucinatory nature of this world as she mingles reminiscences, fiction, hospital sketches, and family profiles to chart the course of her physical and mental life from diagnosis through a successful liver transplant and recovery. 3-0 out of 5 stars Slow going
I have to disagree with the other reviewer with 5 stars. The book just didn't grab me as I hoped it would, and it was a bit of a struggle to complete.I thought about ditching it at around page 50, but continued on to see if it improved--which it did to a small extent. After reading other books about people with illnesses, I found that Tiger's Eye paled in comparison.Go for "It's Not About the Bike" by Lance Armstrong if you want a more gripping personal account of someone dealing and overcoming serious illness. Now that's a real page-turner!

5-0 out of 5 stars Hour of Lead, Remembered
Tiger's Eye is Inga Clendinnen's account of her diagnosis of a rare liver disease, her rapidly debilitating illness, finally a liver transplant and ultimate if precarious recovery. But that is like saying Moby Dick is about whaling. This historian from Australia has written a superb treatise full of hard truths on both illness and memory. After all, the truth is not always carried on angels' wings. Along the way she also has written fiction-- short stories-- and some of the history of Australia. After her diagnosis of Active Auto-Immune Hepatitis, she began writing this memoir on her laptop computer, not knowing if she would live or not. She writes searing accounts of her hospitalization: the good, the bad, the indifferent hospital personnel. The visitors who came late and leave early, to get back to their lives outside an institution. Read more
