5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book
This book is much more than a nutritional guide like I thought it would be.It really explains the disease and how our reproductive system works, down to the cellular level. It also has a lot of references to technical articles which adds credibility to what the authors are saying. It has a wonderful balance of science and practicality including many stories of real women who have benefited from the book's advice.I haven't finished it yet, but I'm already filled with new hope and confidence to beat this disease.

5-0 out of 5 stars Endometriosis: A Key to Healing Through Nutrition
This book really helped me get my Endo WAY under control. I followed the recommended dietary guidelines in it for 18 months, and went a full 6 years before I needed surgery for my Endo again (when my doctor said I would need it every 12 months). I'm reading it a second time, this time the new edition, and again doing everything it suggets. This book is as close to a cure as we've got, ladies!

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible help
The diet and nutrition advice in this book have helped me tremendously. Previously, surgeries offered short-term relief but my endo (stage 4) always comes back.I became unable to tolerate any hormone or drug therapy because of the side effects. I was afraid my life would just be ruled by this awful thing and started looking for anything to help take back my health.

4-0 out of 5 stars worth reading if you have kidney disease
the material is clearly written for the layman.however your own kidney doctor might take issue with the proposed solution , i.e. low protein diet .i know that johns hopkins urology department is top rated so i would tend to favor the recommendations in the book ..

5-0 out of 5 stars Haltingpolycystic kidney disease or delaying dialysis

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible hope
I have met many of the people who are featured as case histories in this book and their story is fantastic. Many have delayed dialysis from 5-12 years. They all had to struggle with their personal physician and with their local nephrologists, many of whom do not believe that people will change their diet to avoid dialysis.Dr. Walser maintained a lonely struggle in this country to get others nephrologists to push a strategy that had a 2.5% death rate (unrelated to the diet) vs. a 24% per year death rate for patients on dialysis.

5-0 out of 5 stars Along the Healing Path
This is a great book that offers many alternatives in treating interstitial cystitis. It's very helpful! It gives many, many tips on how to recover from this awful disease.I also recommend her other books "To Wake in Tears" and "Awakening through the Tears."

5-0 out of 5 stars Hope
I read the 1st two of her books; I will get the third in a couple of weeks.I have IC and I know I wouldn't be where I am without reading these books. They offer more hope than anything I've read. These are must read books. If you know of someone who has IC, buy them this book as a way of offeing them hope. They offer a way out, of what looks like, a no win situation.Thank you Catherine for writing these!

5-0 out of 5 stars Along the Healing Path
This book is both very illuminating and comforting. There are options one would not likely have found elsewhere. It gives hope that there is indeed light at the end of this long, dark tunnel.Written in a down to earth, warm style the book is like a welcome letter from a close friend.I am anxious to get started on Awakening Through the Tears. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars You've got to read this book!
I received this book as a gift. There are quite a few books on this subject on the market and this one is the best. I too could not put it down and finished it in 3 days. It's a huge book, a great resource that is well researched and written.. I have a few friends who've purchased this book and really loved it too. I can highly recommend this book.
1-0 out of 5 stars Caution, Proceed with extreme caution
DANGER - Read and follow this book at your own peril! Some of the things in this book will get you killed!!! Do not try to treat yourself alone with this book. Please follow this book only with the direct help of a qualified medical professional. I am in no way related to the writing, publishing or printing industries.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worked for me
Three months ago I took a PSA test and it came back 8.79 ng/mL. I had no other symptoms and started looking for an alternative to what the doctors wanted me to do. I found this book and followed the instructions which include a strict diet, exercise and 20+ vitamins. I took another PSA test two weeks ago and just received the results today: 4.5 ng/mL. Still elevated but quite a remarkable improvement in just two months. It will be interesting to see what it will be six months or a year from now.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent comprehensive approach
Dr. Warshowsky has written a book that's informative and accessible. It combines the best of Western medicine and holistic/complementary resources, which is wonderful because there is so much misinformation abounding about "alternative" medicine. Knowing that Dr. Warshowsky is a board-certified ob/gyn who's affiliated with a prestigious medical institution lends credibility and authority to his holistic approaches. I recommend this book to any woman with fibroids. Additionally, any woman who wants a picture of holistic medicine at its best should read this book, even if she does not have fibroids.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excelent
Excelent book. I was looking for a book about fibroids after 6 doctors recommend surgery (Hysterectomy), and I was glad I found this book. It explain more about our bodys and what increases our chances with fibroids than any other reference material I came across so far. I was almost given up, but I decide to keep fight and changed some important things (like food and relaxation). I have an herb garden now. A must have for anyone who have to face the problem of fibroids.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this book
I was resigned to what my doctor told me was the only alternative-surgery. This book gave me hope and totally changed the coarse of my life. I learned not only about my fibroid condition, but about nutrition and a healthy lifestyle generally. It brought me to yoga, which I'm now absolutely hooked on. It turned my fibroid misery into a kind a blessing in disguise. I wish I had read this book years ago, but, better late than never. One year after deciding not to have surgery because of reading this book, the fibroid is still there, but I'm starting to reread Warshowsky's book to get reinspired for the year ahead, and rededicate myself to the ideas inside. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A helpful book,Prostate a guide for men, Fred Felkins husband of Joan Felkins
This book was refered to me when I was told that I told that I had Prostate cancer by a doctor. The doctor informed me that most men do not understand what the prostate does and how it operates.I read the book and achieved a better understanding of what I was facing. My wife did not read the entire book but did read certain parts and used this to support me in this time. I would recommend that every man over 50 beg, borrow or buy this book, read it, study it and visit with their doctor and get a yearly check up.I am a five year survial of Prostate cancer and every 6 months when the doctor tells me that it is still in remission I rejoice.

4-0 out of 5 stars A guide for men and the women who love them
This book provided the practical every day treatment information that I needed regarding my recently diagnosed prostrate cancer.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Authoritative Book On Prostate Cancer
Amid all of the rumors and horror stories one confronts after being diagnosed with Prostate Cancer, this guide was conforting to both my wife and me. Doctor Walsh and Ms. Worthington are to be commended for preparing a text that a layman can understand and at the same time put to rest the fears stimulated by the horror stories a cancer victim encounters. Especially impressive were the illustrations by Leon Schlossberg. As one who underwent the radical nerve sparing surgery, developed by Dr. Walsh, I knew exactly what would happen and what to expect. I purchase copies of the book and pass it on to men I know who have been diagnosed. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars IC Pain - Gone!!! (and so is other pain like neck and back)
With over 30 years of IC pain, I was tolerating only water and green beans until I read this book. The author, an IC sufferer and doctor, includes a wealth of suggestions which I immediately was easily able to incorporate into my diet and life style. Yes, the foods IC sufferers cannot tolerate are listed in her book which I found very helpful!5-0 out of 5 stars (...)
I came across this book 10 years ago at a seminar and have been giving it to patients ever since. It is very well-written especially for the layman, providing numerous things to think about it in the face of chronic bladder problems.Being a chiropractor, I also found it fascinating that Dr. Gillespie basically spells out the whole theory behind chiropractic care when she cites that the number one cause of bladder and prostate problems is low back problems! Using diagrams she shows how the nerves enamating from the lumbar spine enervate these areas of the body.Though she doesn't mention chiropractic care in her book, I had to laugh when I saw that she had, however unwittingly, totally validated the science and theory of Chiropractic care.Whatever the underlying cause of your bladder problem, you are likely to find some help with this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must-Read Book for Anyone with IC or Cystitis!
This is a ground-breaking book written by a doctor who truly understands both bacterial and interstitial cystitis. Before the 1st edition of this book, the medical world was virtually silent on the subject, telling women it was all in their heads! Dr. Gillespie shows a deep understanding of the all-too-common and frequently mis-treated and/or over-medicated cystitis (urinary tract infection). Further, Dr. Gillespie virtually forced the medical world to learn about interstitial cystitis (IC) and to begin research into more humane and effective methods of treating it. Dr. G is a personal hero for me. Her book has provided guidance in my dealings with IC,where unfortunately most doctors still don't know what IC is. This book can help the patient to make decisions about treatments that can affect their body for many years to come. This book has helped me to minimize the occurrence of bacterial cystitis. And while my IC is incurable, this book has provided insight and helpful methods to make the condition less debilitating. Thanks for this ground-breaking book!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Amercians need to get over themselves
really - is it that difficult to discover that an aubergine is also an eggplant? alright so some food items might not be available in the US as they are in the UK, but that's the same story as the many american books that exclude the rest of the world with their insular world-view, and certainly no reason to damn a great book.

5-0 out of 5 stars a must have
I have been living with PCOS for what seems like forever.I have been to doctors andinfertility specialist that have done nothing for me.This book has brought me hope and an incredible amount to useful information.Yes, it is written by a british author but that takes away nothing from the information. If you are diagnosed with PCOS they should hand you this book.Read it and make notes and just try it.It is already working for me.

I am a 35-year-old African American female and have suffered from fibroids for over 7 years. Almost everyone in my family does to some degree. Various quacks have prescribed painkiller after painkiller. Then finally I had a surgery and conceived, but lost our child at 18 weeks.A year later, a fibroid was back with an ovarian cyst.I did not want more surgery, so during the holiday I order this book and started the plan.During my recent ultrasound, examine less than 3 weeks later the small fibroid was gone and the cyst partial collapsed (part fluid it was solid) and shrunk. I feel great and whole for the first time in a long time.Thank you for having the courage to show us a different way.The book was balanced with options and I will recommend it to all I know. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Good overview but some misleading information
I have to say this was a good book because PCOS is a lousy and misunderstood disorder, and anything that helps get the word out about what it is and how to treat it is a GOOD BOOK.This book does cover the basics, such as how PCOS is thought to stem from insulin resistance and how diet, exercise, and certain medications can work to help relieve this puzzling and distressing syndrome. It also gives a very nice overview of alternative/complimentary/natural therapies.
4-0 out of 5 stars Easy Read
This book helped me understand a little bit more about my PCOS.It was easy to read and understand. We need more books like this on PCOS.

4-0 out of 5 stars Insulin Resistance and Candida albicans
This book deals with a lot of issues. Since so many women have insulin resistance, and diabetics have so many problems with Candida albicans, it would be great to test all women with PCOS for Candida albicans infection.

4-0 out of 5 stars Kidney Stones
I know a gentleman in the mid 70s suffering from kidney stone when I was working in the Middle East.Since he had money and influence, he went all the way to Germany to get his kidney stone removed. There they used some laser treatment and crushed the stone.Unfortunately, the stone was not made fine powder and every time this man took a pee, he was suffering excruciating pain as these crushed pieces came out along the urine.I am sure if he had a chance to read this book, he would not have suffered. But that is life. In this book the authors take extra care to describe the various aspects of kidney stones and the most appropriate treatment for each one of them.It is a wonderful book and persons reading this book will have the right guidelines to a life without kidney stones.
5-0 out of 5 stars A truely helpful guide for kidney stone patients!!!!!
As someone who has worked for a number of years on providing laboratory results for stone patients I am intimately familiar with the challenges kidney stone patients face.As even some of the other reviews point out many in the medical industry have little information of value to share with those who suffer from kidney stones. This is all the more alarming when you take into account the fact that most people who have one kidney stone will have another in their lifetime.4-0 out of 5 stars Layman's understanding
Having read the book and suffered the passing of stones, I find the text to be as articulate and as genuineas the author. It is informative, explanatory and easy to understand. The knowledge given allows one to focus on prevention and to take charge of one's own care.My only suggestion would be to include a listing of all foods low in oxalate, so that changing one's diet and life style become reasonable and realistic goals. I have found this txt to be worthwhile enough to purchase again, but this time as a gift to a fellow "stoner." ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Awakening
As her other two wonderful books, this one also offers you with hope. She writes about how the mind, body, and spirit are connected and how she came to understand how she "drew" IC to her and how she used it to help her heal the rest of the way.I find this book to be comforting and inspirational and greatly recommend it.Once again, thank you Cath for the hope you give us!

4-0 out of 5 stars Very interesting.
By revealing some of the mystery behind the spirit, mind, body connection (based on her own experiences), the author makes the point that healing from IC involves more than just healing the body. There is much to think about in this book, and it may trigger some healthy self-reflection. For those who believe in God, the references to "God/the Universe" may be unsettling, and are probably made to appeal to a wider audience. But the principles mentioned are universal in nature.

5-0 out of 5 stars She's still doing well!
This is Catherine Simone's third book describing her battle with Interstitial Cystitis. In this one, she lets her readers know that she is still doing great but addresses spiritual, emotional, and mental issues that can attribute to/stem from the disease. Many people who have recovered are finding that although the physical symptoms are gone, the fear, anxiety, etc., tend to linger. This book perfectly complements her other two, bringing her work full circle. I am so thankful for this book...an excellent resource for every IC patient. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Hope
Before I came across this book, I thought I was doomed to live with IC for the rest of my life. After reading this book about Cath who had severe interstitial cystitis and many more ailments that seem to come along with this disease, I realized that there is hope in regaining my health. She tells her story of how she recovered from the nightmare she was living and shares with us what she did to recover. It's amazing she survived that horrendous experience!Thank you Cath for all the hope you give us with this book! :)

I really enjoyed this book. I related to many of the things that were talked about in this book. Although is is not based on factual medical basis, it does provide the insight of a PATIENT with IC and that is very important. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Meeker is out of touch with reality.
I have read Meeker's book, and find it totally devoid of factual information or a sex-positive approach. It is the same old "just say no" approach, which is never going to click with today's teenagers. Like Josh McDowell and Pam Stenzel, she is irresponsible in not telling the truth about sex. Forget her.

1-0 out of 5 stars not worth the paper it's printed on
As an epidemiologist with a PhD, and a focus on adolescent health, I found this book terrible.Dr. Meeker states things that are simply WRONG and have been shown in scientific literature.Specifically on page 146 she says that "the risk of contracting and STD through oral is extremely high." At the time of publication of her book, this was NOT shown.Since that time, the most definitive study shows that there is no risk: del Romero J, Marincovich B, Castilla J, Garcia S, Campo J, Hernando V, et al. Evaluating the risk of HIV transmission through unprotected orogenital sex. AIDS 2002;16(9):1296-7.
4-0 out of 5 stars How Teen Sex Is Killing Our Kids
If all the teenagers in the world read this book, there would have been a sea change in their attitude towards their no-holds-barred sexual revolution. Earlier there wereonly two diseases syphilis and gonorrhoea and now there is more than a 100 and they are increasing at an extremely fearful pace. Many of these have no remedies so far and the people getting killed by these diseases are increasing on a daily basis.

2-0 out of 5 stars *Echos the disappointing sentiments*
I was excited to find a big thick book dedicated to endo.It seemed as if it quite possibly had to have everything that I needed to know about this disease.Wrong.
2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
This book bills itself as a "complete reference for taking charge of your health," but much of it reads more like a compendium of personal anecdotes and rants (toxic chemicals are bad! very bad!) than a practical reference work. The information on drug therapies is potentially useful as a starting point, but for more substantial information on commonly used medications it repeatedly refers the reader to Ballweg's earlier "Endometriosis Sourcebook" (presumably to save space -- yet this book devotes 15 pages to reprinting a series of badly drawn cartoons from the earlier volume.) The section on surgery is padded with first-person narratives and fretful digressions about certification of surgeons and the risk of getting accidentally poked with a trocar or poisoned with hidden PVCs. The book is slanted toward alternative treatments and diet modification, with an inordinate amount of space devoted to a diet supposed to cure yeast allergies. While nutrition is obviously important to general health, the evidence presented for the success of this diet in treating endometriosis is anecdotal (and some of the anecdotes themselves are highly dubious or even comical, such as the letter from a woman who claims to have discovered that she is highly allergic to "grains" -- in which category she includes potatoes!). Given that the book is quick to point out the flaws in conventional medical treatment, it seems a bit irresponsible not to give equal time to the damage that desperate women can do to themselves with self-treatment and "natural" remedies. There are as many bad acupuncturists and quack nutritionists out there as there are bad gynecologists. What we really need is more solid, serious medical research, not more miracle diets or personal tales of suffering and empowerment. If you already own previous books by Ballweg and the Endometriosis Association and like their approach, you might be satisfied with this book, but if you're looking for a definitive reference on this agonizing and perplexing disease, you'll likely be disappointed. I certainly was.

5-0 out of 5 stars Extremely Helpful Endo Reference Guide
My doctor specializing in endo treatment gave me this book, and I have found it very useful. I also have Mary Lou Ballweg's previous endo book, which is also great.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is by far the most informative book I have ever read
Blaivas does something here that no other urologist has ever done. He haswritten a bookthat answers any and every question, but he has written itin a way that is easy to understand. He even intertwines humor, so rare ina informational medical book. His compassion, understanding, and extensiveknowledge far surpassed my expectations. If you have even thought aboutbuying this book, then do it. It will help.Read more
