What huge RIP OFF!!!!!!!!!!
90% of all the exercises are strictly yoga poses.I am throughly disgusted that I spent my good money on a BIG RIP OFF!2/3 of the book is spent with Mr. Weisberg loving the view of his own words in print.
Good Book
Prevention is the key with any joint pain issues and this book helps you understand and prevent them from occuring.

Good advice despite the over-hyped title.
Hardly a "revolutionary" program for those who have read anything about the muscular-skeletal structure of the human body, the interrelations of muscles and joints, and the importance of keeping the muscles stretched.But the author does offer an inviting, simple, and feasible set of six exercises which, if done religiously every day, 30 seconds per exercise, can prevent further abuses and damage (the title's apparent promise of restoration or a "cure" seems a bit exaggerated).Compared to the impossibly long list of tedious, often painful and exhausting exercises given me by my PT, Dr. Weisberg's program is cause for a sigh of relief.

It Works!
After reading all the 5 star reviews for the predecessor (Pain Free) to this book," I checked it out at the library to see if the program really worked. The program sounded to good to be true, but the volume of 5 star reviews really made me want to try it out. After about a week and a half on the program, I no longer had bad arthritus pain in my wrist, and was able to get off the glucosamine. Glucosamine worked for me, but it is expensive. Since doing the exercises, my shoulder pain isalso much less severe.
Excellent resource-Poor binding
The book is an incredible resource for women. It gives a new paradigm for viewing our bodies and for believing in the possibility of health. We are well designed, we just need to use our bodies according to the design!

A helpful book for both patients and professionals
"You'll just have to learn to live with it." That's what many patients hear when there is nothing else that can be medically done to alleviate their pain. But how is a patient supposed to learn to "live with it?" Where this statement leaves off, Dr. Thorn's book begins. Dr. Thorn's book illustrates how a therapist can help patients with pain to better cope with their suffering, and to go on to live fulfilling lives. This book is aptly named, for it truly does take the reader on a step-by-step journey through the therapeutic process.

Perfect for the Layman
Sometimes the illustrations in this book are a little silly, but it presents information in a way that is easy for everyone to understand.It gives a good overview of many different kinds of treatment and how they can help the different causes of sciatica.The exercises depicted in the book and excellent.

Puts pain in the proper perspective
I have been "suffering" chronic pain for over a year.The first thing that hit me with this easy to read book was that I have a choice to take control rather than just giving in and becoming addicted to the first thing doctors suggest -- narcotic pain medication.Because of the suggestions in this book I am working with my doctors at the pain management clinic to get off of these drugs.I am learning to change my focus immediately when I feel the pain and to integrate many forms of treatment.It is well worth the read.

Yes, this is worth every cent you pay for it.
I have just completed a 10 day therapeutic session with Dr. Marcus and for the first time in 27 years I am feeling like a normal person. I no longer am "a patient", which is an insidious condition in your mind that can happen suddenly, or very slowly, as it did for me. I spent the last8 years searching constantly for any kind of relief--from acupuncture to chiropractic to physical therapy and eventually giving in to whatever meds I could get prescribed for me...nothing worked.Read more

Personal account of Fibromyalgia
Sue Jones write helpful personal account of fibromyalgia.She groups Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue together and simply refers to them as FMS.This does a bit of diservice to CFS.They do have over-lapping symptoms, but CFS doesn't have many characteristic symptoms that fibromyalgia has.Generally, her account is readable although she does discusses (briefly) only one treatment (unusual) treatment that has helped her.I would not recommend this book as source the sole source of understanding FMS/CFS or its treatments.It is a readable account of one person's experience, but overall does not offer many insights.

i encourage anyone with fibromyalgia/ chronic fatigue syndrome to read this book and share it with anyone you come in contact with , especially family members, doctor's and psychiatrists. Ms. Jones wrote the book simply, and her writing style made it very understandable and user friendly, especially to people who have difficulty maintaining attention and concentration. I was able to read the book in one sitting and felt much of the information was written as though the writer was speaking directly to me. This book described my feelings and problems as if Ms. Jones "walked in my shoes". Definitely worth buying and keeping by your bedside whenever you need a friend to support you and one who appears to understand the ups and downs of living with this illness.

Great for insight!
This book gives a great description of what living with Fibro is like. It helped me not feel so alone with my illness and realize that others do have similiar symptoms. If I had read this book earlier it would have saved me from a needless bladder surgery that did more harm than good. ... Read more

Plan that works
I figured out my body type from the information in the book and did the appropriate exercises.The exercises are not hard and are not very time consuming.I have several posteral issues that I've had all my life.After a couple of weeks I could feel that my body had changed - not that I lost weight, but that things were in different places.Later I noticed more changes.It's really helped with my postural issues - something no other exercise program had done.I'd recommend it.

A must read for any back pain patient or doctor!

Great book to take back your Power !
This book is an easy can do book for anyone suffering from pain and unable to get their life back. It not only teaches, but also reminds us of the life we had before pain took over our day to day living, leaving us embroiled in medication and non activity which just makes things worse. Get it. USE IT. Do not JUST READ it.

Miracles do happen!
I am an athlete who has had a chronic low back problem for twenty years. I exercised regularly utilizing exercises from the best physical therapists and chiropractors in the Los Angeles area. These exercises and stretch routines barley made a dent in the regular back pain I experienced. The day I received Pain Free I read the book cover to cover and did the chronic pain exercises. It was like a light switch was flipped in my back. I have been almost pain free for the last year since reading the book. The major test for me was whether I could return to running. Having been a marathoner before my back problem I had never been able to run regularly without severe repercussions. I now run three times a week with no repercussions and each week I am increasing my mileage. The maintenance exercises are great and they keep my back well.
After Long Term Use
I have practiced the material in this book diligently for the past 8 months, and I think that sets me apart from the many who review this book after shorter use.The methods described in the book offer short-term relief positions for those in pain from musculosleletal problems.They are not unique, as yoga and physical therapy help in a similar fashion. They did not cure my back/disc related pain. Egoscue's claim that 95% of people doing these excercises will recover in a week is absurd, and his theories, though interesting, are unproven.Who is to say that his "successes" would not have recovered naturally in time?Having said that, I do think the book can give comfort to those in pain, but don't expect a cure.

Good book spoilt by poor editing
I have to agreee with Steve Hickman. There are many thoughtful and inspiring approaches within ACT and this book has been helpful with understanding chronic pain from an ACT perspective. The authors must be very disappointed with the book. It is the worst example of editing that I have seen in a textbook or any book for that matter. I would suggest that future buyers wait for a new edition or borrow one in the mean time

Great content but needs an editor!
As a clinical psychologist who works almost exclusively with patients with chronic pain and illness, I am drawn to the approaches like ACT that incorporate mindfulness and acceptance in dealing with these conditions. This book is a very good glimpse into how ACT can be applied to people with chronic pain and I expect that I will use a lot of what I have read here to work with my patients. However, my major gripe with this book is the VERY poor quality of the text itself. It is literally riddled with typographical and grammatical errors. I suspect that the first author's first language is not English, but this is no excuse for the abysmal quality of the book. I have not made it through a single page without finding at least one error that should have been caught by SOMEONE in the process of putting the book together. These errors unfortunately take away from the credibility of these very well-qualified and talented authors. If you can overlook the poor editing, the book has some very valuable approaches and ideas.

Invaluable
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for Chronic Pain has been of invaluable aid to me in my work with my first chronic pain patient. By reading this book my understanding of how many of the central ACT-metaphores are applied in practice has widened and gained context. We get to follow Elisabeth, a woman who is perceived by society to be broken, as she actively chooses to commit towards leading a more vital life.

Fantastic, must read!
For all parents struggling with a child in chronic pain, this book is superb!Dr. Zeltzer has written a supportive and thorough book that encompasses all types of treatment options....medicine, alternative therapies, etc.The book is easy to read and supports us all through this difficult experience, giving us information and a wonderful resource to discuss specific issues with our own doctors.Another value to this book is that you, as a parent, will feel validated, as will your child....that your child's pain is real and there ARE things your family can do to better manage it and to help him/her deal with this.As an added bonus, she lists every pediatric pain management clinic and other resources for more information.The book is written for the lay person...without the usual medical jargon...all parents with a child in pain can read and find amazing value in this! ... The best of its kind, but do not pay exorbitant prices!
The Chronic Pain Control Workbook is by far the best of its kind. It truly will walk a chronic pain sufferer through a step-by-step program that, if followed consistently, WILL improve the quality of the chronic sufferer's life. I have used it successfully with thousands of patients. HOWEVER, the book is now out-of-print (for some unfathomable reason that nether the publisher nor the authors care to explain) and I am seeing extreme price gouging! Don't fall for it and do not pay exorbitant prices for a book that's listed at $17.95. If you can't find a used one for a reasonable price, "The Relaxation & Stress Reduction Workbook (2000, 5th edition, also by New Harbinger Publications) by M. Davis, Elizabeth Eshelman, and Matthew McKay - ISBN: 1572242140 covers almost all the topics just as well as the Pain Control Workbook does. What's missing are the chapters on medications, theories of pain, and vocational issues, but these are covered quite well elsewhere. The Relax workbook is available for list price of $19.95, but I have seen it used for as little as $10. A MUCH saner way to go! ... Read more

This is a "must have" if you have pain.
Dr. Schneider's book is a "must have" resource for anyone that lives with pain.She dispels the myths about pain medication and addiction, and offers insights into many other modalities that can be valuable tools for the patient.I am fortunate to live where she practices in Tucson, and I get to see the excellent results shehelps her patients achieve in living with chronic pain problems.I recommend this book highly to my patients and colleagues.
