Facts and Answers to CMP !!!
Chronic Myofascial Pain Disease(in 2006 was classified as a disease)is a very debilitating muscle disease,there is almost no information out there on this disease. This book teaches you how to help youself! I have been suffering from it severly for 6 1/2 years since I was 19, the information in this book gave me so much hope! This book have everythings from finding out what is happening to your muscles and body, to finding a DR to being an advocate for yourself These things are very important!!!! My Doctor encouraged this so much, this book was just the WAY to do these things!As a patient you have to understand what is going on in your body to get better. This book is so incrediblly inportant for someone suffering from CMP or fibromyalgia!

Very comforting :alot ofthings make sense now
This book not only gives constructive direction but also removes alot of confusion. The Author has the diseases and knows first hand the situations that result. After reading this book I realize that I should purchase a few more copies for my doctor and family. The price is very low for the quality of information. After reading it I was profoundly relieved to know all the details. There are things that really don't make sense are real, and are not my imagination.

The best to date on Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Immune Deficiency Disease
It has been awhile since I first read this fine book, but I have not found anything else that comes even close to being as helpful. I keep going back to it for referral.

A mixed bag, but generally useful
I would recommend this as a reference source and buying it. It contains very useful information in many areas, such as endocrine problems and yeast etc. I have a few reservations. It only dedicates 5 lines to toxicity and detoxification, which more or less tell you to buy someone else's book. For one of the major contributary factors of Chronic Fatigue in many people, this is not really acceptable. If you are going to write a book about CFS, you can't just leave out key factors. My other reservations about the book are that it tends to mention many rather severe treatments and pharmaceutical drugs where these should only really be used as a last resort if at all, as many natural equivalents are just as effective (e.g. candida control etc). Lastly, the book doesn't clearly differentiate enough between what the reader should do by themselves, and what they should leave to a specialist to really prescribe the right treatment for them. It reads like a list of supplements. Apart from that, it is quite good. A useful overview of CFS, including toxicity, can be found at health-spy dot com.

Excellent resource
Even though his book could be more organized, I give Dr. Cutler five stars for his content. I have owned the book for over four years and keep referencing it over and over. It outlines a conservative and safe protocol for mercury/heavy metal detoxification.

Essential Information on Mercury Poisoning
If you or someone you love has or suspects mercury poisoning, you need this book.Mercury poisoning and amalgam illness are very controversial subjects (at least in the U.S.), and it is often hard to get thorough information on properly diagnosing and treating it.This book is a godsend for those looking for answers.
The only one that works
I was almost dead. This works. First energy came back to me for each round of detox. Then allergies lessened, joint aches went away, stomach problems decreased.. Well, poisonoed people can have hundreds of symptoms, I wont count to 100. Read his forum on yahoogroups for more info.

Diagnosis Unknown
It's no wonder fibromyalgia is so difficult to diagnose because of all the overlapping and/or symptoms of so many other diseases and problems.I thought the areas on choosing the right doctor were very good.One thing that was left out for self-treating someone with fibromyalgia was the use of the Theracane.My daughter who has fibromyalgia has said that she couldn't live without her Theracane because she can reach the pressure/trigger points and massage them herself, which seems to give her temporary relief from pain.(I have nothing to do with Theracane...its sale or promotion.)The book is very enlightening for uninformed family and friends of those who have this terrible syndrome.

Simple, non-invasive cure!
It's hard to believe that suffering so long with jaw pain could be alleviated so quickly by just doing some simple exercises! I was pain-free in two weeks, and now I only notice pain during times of stress when I must be unconsciously grinding. Then I resume the exercises and once again, the pain disappears! Try these exercises before you take any other action! Some 'cures' make the problem worse, and this is such a simple, inexpensive, and affective solution!

Also Disappointed
The other review that stated you could write your thoughts in your own journal is correct.This is quite an expensive badly put together "writing tablet".While the idea of getting to the source of pain is good - it shouldn't cost as much as it did for something you can do on your own. This really isn't very helpful and seems like a creative way for someone to take advantage of people in pain.

This works!!

Works well if you follow the instructions
I bought the book for a family member with Fibro who was nearly an invalid. The improvement was immediate and dramatic. She follows the diet guidelines in the book faithfully and now has her life back.

A DUD
I thought that this was going to be a cookbook with delicious and new recipes.It was a dud.There are no nutritional guidelnes, no ideas.It is not worth the money.

A friend referred me to this book and I am so grateful to God. I was diagnosed with FMS at the start of the year but didn't know much at all about it. Seems noone really knows how to treat it in Australia - just treat the symptoms and wait it out. I have found this book helpful because (a) for the first time I knew a lifetime of atypical symptoms actually are quite typical FMS (b) it gave me an action plan (that I am currently undetaking) and (c) it was easy enough for me to read; AND(d) it was technical enough for my doctor to read and follow through on.
Book no longer in print
As the author of this book, ISBN 0446675121, I must say it is no longer in print. A new edition, ISBN 0-446-69444-4, was released in January 2006 to correct inaccuracies and to update data. It's time Amazon showed the new cover under "Fibromyalgia" and blended the two editions into display.

Personal account of Fibromyalgia
Sue Jones write helpful personal account of fibromyalgia.She groups Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue together and simply refers to them as FMS.This does a bit of diservice to CFS.They do have over-lapping symptoms, but CFS doesn't have many characteristic symptoms that fibromyalgia has.Generally, her account is readable although she does discusses (briefly) only one treatment (unusual) treatment that has helped her.I would not recommend this book as source the sole source of understanding FMS/CFS or its treatments.It is a readable account of one person's experience, but overall does not offer many insights.

i encourage anyone with fibromyalgia/ chronic fatigue syndrome to read this book and share it with anyone you come in contact with , especially family members, doctor's and psychiatrists. Ms. Jones wrote the book simply, and her writing style made it very understandable and user friendly, especially to people who have difficulty maintaining attention and concentration. I was able to read the book in one sitting and felt much of the information was written as though the writer was speaking directly to me. This book described my feelings and problems as if Ms. Jones "walked in my shoes". Definitely worth buying and keeping by your bedside whenever you need a friend to support you and one who appears to understand the ups and downs of living with this illness.

Great for insight!
This book gives a great description of what living with Fibro is like. It helped me not feel so alone with my illness and realize that others do have similiar symptoms. If I had read this book earlier it would have saved me from a needless bladder surgery that did more harm than good. ... Read more

A good book for the just-diagnosed
This is a good fibromyalgia book to buy if you have just been diagnosed and you are looking for practical advice on how to cope with your illness.Though not as detailed and complete as Starlanyl and Copeland'sFibromyalgia and Chronic Myofascial Pain Syndrome, it is also lessoverwhelming and so is particularly good for someone who is feelingoverwhelmed, doesn't like a lot of medical information, or has a mild formof the disease.The chapters "You aren't alone", "MakingLifestyle adjustments," and "Practical helps for specificproblems" are quite good, as are the three chapters on managingfatigue, stress, and flareups.

This is the best book I have read on this subject.
This book has brought peace of mind and a greater understanding of what is happening in my body. No one enjoys chronic pain and it is confusing to feel so full of pain everywhere one day and then feel better the next onlyto ache worse the following day.This book makes one realize that this ispart of the syndrome. Making Sense Out of A Mysterious Illness
When my doctor told me he thought I had fibromyalgia, I thought "Oh, great! A garbage can diagnosis--he's telling me something just to keep me happy." I had gone through every pamphlet on the office wall and this was the last one he had that he could hand to me. It didn't make me feel any better. I still have the sleep disorder, the chronic pain and fatigue. I have periods in which I can be semi-normal, and other periods when I'm a zombie. Simply Excellent
This is an incredible book on fibromyalgia written by an MD who actually has the disorder.In my opinion, it is a "must have" for everybody with FMS, their health care practitioners, and their significant others.
Best Information on FM
This is the most easy to understand and best compiled information I have on Fibromyalgia and Myofascial Pain. Recently I have been having a lot of "spells" with A-Fib and "chest" pain. All my test on my heart show the heart is in excellant condition. I had not referred to this book in awhile but when I dusted it off I found the answers to the problems I have been experiencing. Especially in the section "What to tell your Cardiologist" and "What to tell the Emergency Room Drs". It is great to know your heart checks out in "great condition" and that there is an answer to why you are experiencing what you are experiencing. Now I know what course I need to take and I am reassured of no heart problems.

Buy this book!
Dr. Wallace is a life saver and one of the most well respected Rhuematology doctors in the country!I was undiagnosed for 3 years and had gone to 10 doctors when I finally went to Dr. WallaceHe actually listened to me, thoroughly tested me and finally diagnosed me.He got me into a comprehensive pain management program and I'm now out of my wheelchair.I've read this book cover to cover and keep it as a reference tool.I can't say enough about it.Buy it!

Good Science
I was fortunate enough to find this book right after I was diagnosed. It explained everything I wanted to know, and more. Each chapter or section begins with a literary quotation that brings the subject into focus.The second section is heavily scientific, and the author even recommends skipping it and reading it later. I found the second section well written, but complex. It requires several readings. Each chapter of the book ends with a "Summing Up" paragraph (especially helpful in the scientific section)that helps you remember what you just read. Packed with lots of information

I wish I had this book when I was diagnosed!
As the title indicates, this book is geared towards those who are new to fibromyalgia and are facing what I wrestled with when I was first diagnosed: eight million questions about what was happening to me, what do about it, and what my diagnosis meant to me and those around me. Ms. Marek does an excellent job of providing a comprehensive overview of all the things I remember needing to learn. In addition, the writing is clear and easy to follow. I'd describe it as conversational; I felt Ms. Marek was having a private discussion with me. She illustrates the practical information with her personal experience (she too has fibromyalgia), as well as with the experiences of others. One of the things I enjoyed most about this book is that Ms. Marek also talks about the emotional aspects of living with this illness and how it affects not only the person with fibromyalgia, but those around them. She addresses things like denial and acceptance, and the role those play in our lives. Ms. Marek speaks to the human being underneath the illness...the person who is struggling to maintain their identity in the face of a body that no longer works the way it used to. In summary, this is a solid, well-written book that I wish someone had handed to me when I was diagnosed. As the title says, this is an Essential Guide.
A great guide, quick read
I gobbled this book up after my diagnosis in late May of fibromyalgia. Of course, by necessity it is not as exhaustive as Devin Starlanyl's fibromyalgia books, but it is extremely helpful & has a little timeline of goals to follow. I think achieving some of these goals might be a little intimidating for someone who maybe has been seeking a diagnosis for some time...their level of disability may be great at first & they may have a hard time getting on the suggested exercise schedule. However, overall it's a positive book. I would be wary of the dietary advice, however. It is quite different from the advice given my by my neurologist, so definitely run it by your doctor first if you want to follow it. I don't think it's wise for everbody to go on a no to low carbohydrate diet, especially if your hemoglobin or glucose tests have come out ok. My doctor recommended an anti-inflammatory diet instead.

The Bible on Chronic Fatigue!
This book is a must for all people who suffer with chronic fatigue andfibromyalgia.I read it slowly, trying to absorb each and every suggestionthat was written.

Changed My Life (For the Better)
My boss bought this book for me, and I thought it was going to be just another, "yeah, you have fibromyalgia and it's a real shame, this is how you cope with it", but instead, this book CHANGED MY LIFE!(Sorryfor the run-on sentence).I had so much pain that some days I couldn't getout of bed.I would find a position that was minimally pain free and notmove until I was better.It got so bad that I had to use a cane so I couldget to work.But I read the book and I couldn't believe the casehistories.But when the pain got so bad that I thought I would lose myjob, I changed my diet (hey, what did I have to lose? ) and low and behold,within a week the pain was gone (I stopped taking pain medicine everyday),the "fog" lifted and I felt better than I had in YEARS!Anotherside benefit, is that I have lost weight!But I recommend this book veryhighly.I will also say that my doctors have pooh-poohed these results,but I firmly believe that what we eat, really effects how we feel.I justnever knew how much!

While not the best book, it's certainly a good introduction to new patients
This book is on the old side - there has been a lot of great and amazing research since it was first published. However, it can provide patients that have just been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia a good, basic understanding of what they are facing. It should not be considered to be a complete reference.

The original "it's all in your head theory"
This book is a slap in the face to anyone with FMS. The author is either completely uneducated about FMS, or has decided that his personal views, misguided, uninformed and biased, are correct and the leading experts are idiots. You Won't Find a Better "Relief Handbook"

This book was extremely helpful in finding alternative ways to relieve pain and increase mental power over the negative emotions related to Fibro.I plan to refer to it from time to time to keep my perspective.

The best investment ever!
Having been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in 1996 I would not have expected to learn boatloads of material from this book. But, much to my surprise, and with the giant library of FMS literature already owned, I DID learn more than a boatload, of knowledge! I was hoping to learn a few new facts here and there. I sat down and flipped it open to see what the inside was like, and to my astonishment, I found I could not stop long enough to start reading at the beginning of that chapter let alone the beginning of the book. I could not believe that I could have learned so much information after all this time. I have been a host in a support chat for years and still found I missed out on vital tips and information. The greatest part about this, well one of them, was when Dr. Williamson discussed a topic that is a problem to most, then she also had a positive reaction to the situation. I was thrilled to read ideas to help some of the topics I couldn't find help with for years! One of the best ideas in this book, that is missing in many, is a Resources Section, one written in common English! I have already started to use the resources today. I called for some catalogs for items that I didn't know where to find nor from companies that I knew nothing about. Practical and easy to read
Ms. Williamson, herself a patient with fibromylagia, follows up on her previous book, "Fibromyalgia: A comprehensive approach" with a very up to date information, practical ideas and coping strategies for millions of patients with fibromyalgia. A job well-done. .... ... Read more
