5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Guide for Food Allergies
I have really enjoyed this book.I understand why the other reviewers rated it as they did though. I also have to stick to a much more restricted diet than the average person on a yeast-free & food allergy plan, however I found it easy to substitute items I could not have with those that I could. My favorite parts of this book are the section on selecting and preparing vegetables and the baked recipes (for which I do a great deal of substitutions). It may be a book for more advanced cooks and bakers, which I am, but it's been a great asset to me and I appreciate having it as a resource.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not for the first weeks of your diet or for sensitivites
I found this book to contain many recipes that contain ingredients that I can't have (I'm in the early stages of treatment so fruits, nuts, some grains, etc. are out for now) and many ingredients that Dr Crook suggests avoiding for a while in newer books. I'm sure the recipes will be more usefull after I've completed treatment and I'm working on maintenance, but that's not what I needed right now. Some tips on how to cook beans and veggies were somewhat helpfull but I think there are better books out there for the early staged of treatment. Consider getting it from your library before buying it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Didn't work for me
First of all, I didn't think the book was very well written - it needed much tighter editing. Many points are repeated over and over again, and I found several typos. It is also heavily aimed at Americans with poor diets.
5-0 out of 5 stars "Fatigue of unknown origin" is not a diagnosis
At 29, I suddenly started feeling sick all the time.Doctors tested me for everything under the sun but found nothing. They "diagnosed" me with "Fatigue of unknown origin".By pure chance, I happened upon The Yeast Connection and it explained everything.I followed his diet recomendations and felt better almost immediately.I can't imagine what my life would be like if I hadn't figured out how my diet and lifestyle were making me sick.I have cut out processed food and sugar, and now eat a diet mainly of organic whole vegetables and whole grains and I feel terrific.
5-0 out of 5 stars My Fatigue Explained
If you or someone you know suffers from fatigue, please buy this book.If you know of a child who is autistic or hyper or has learning problems, please buy this book for their parents.Dr. Crook's treatment program is arecommendation of a medicine from a doctor, along with watching what youeat, and other simple measures.Dr. Crook presented an excellent book, full of resources, actual patient scenarios, and changes to implementimmediately. The book can be passed on to anyone's doctor easily becauseDr. Crook explains that he himself is a doctor & states how he becameinvolved treating yeast. He explains the symptoms of yeast overgrowth inthe body, it's causes, and it's cures. The book gives so many cases ofpatients that it's easier to see how one patient's symptoms may differ fromanother's - but be related to your specific problem.I was diagnosed withEpstein-Barr virus and was told by my doctor that only my symptoms could betreated.Epstein-Barr is related to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome & I havestrugged with tiredness for years. This book has so helped me.I boughtit on a Friday & am buying it Monday to take to my doctor.I am aborn-again Christian & this book is an answer to my prayer. Please buyit for anyone you know who has suffered with Chronic Fatigue. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Candidiasis ad infinitum
Of the large numbers of books on this subject, this one offered little new information.I did see a few recipes that appealed, but could have easily skipped this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Candidia Albican Yeast-Free Cookbook, The: How Good Nutrition Can Help Fight the Epidemic of Yeast-Related Diseases
This book has helped answer many of my questions regarding Candida and has explained what I can expect as I go through the healing process. It is very informative in relation to diet and has good recipes to make the plain food we have to eat a little more exciting.

4-0 out of 5 stars Easy Candida Recipes
I thought this book was very helpful. What I liked most was the "rainbow meal plan" which listed the vegetables and meat combinations you could have on this diet at every meal.Because there are so many vegetables/meat combinations to choose from you shouldn't get bored. The plan also recommends steaming for all your food so it's easy to prepare - all you need is water, a pot and a steamer. The downside is you do have to chop a lot of veggies - however, it's worth it! I also had a hard time with another recipe which called for "Homemade Potassium Baking Powder" pg.83. In the recipe the book says to use potassium bicarbonate which can be ordered from a pharmacy. However, when I went to pick up my bicarbonate it had a skull and cross bone on the bottle and was rated somewhat toxic. When I talked to the pharmacist he said I needed to know what percentage of the potassium bicarbonate was called for because potassium bicarbonate is a strong base.Anyway I had no way to get that information so I skipped that recipe. So obviously the book should be more detailed about things like that.Yet even with this snaffoo I thought the book was helpful and still use most recipes. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource
The book is an excellent choice for anyone interest in the subject. I've bought and read 4 books on this subject (Complete Candida Yeast Guidebook by Jeanne Marie Martin, The Candida Albicans Yeast Free Cookbook by Pat Connolly, The Yeast Connection Cookbook by William Crook) but this one is the most conscise and yet it's offering all the answers. Dr. Murray offers a lot of suggestions on the diet and natural supplements that are essential for good health and boosting up an immune system. Medicine alone did not help me but combining the medicine with the diet recommendations found in this book showed results.

2-0 out of 5 stars I disagree
I bought this book since everyone was giving it 5 stars. The first part of the book was o.k., but then, it got into way too much detail. I found the descriptions of the cells, lymphs and technical names for every enzyme pretty boring. I had to make myself finish reading it. Buy it if you want to read every detail of the immune system. If you are like me and need something more basic, look on.

5-0 out of 5 stars Chronic Candidiasis by Michael Murray
This book was easy to read. Information was comprehensive.Instructions were simple to follow.Good organization of steps to follow in order to accomplish the elimination of candida. It's up to the reader to implement them.I recommend this book even if your familiar with this problem. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Complete Guide to Yeast
This book is packed with information on yeast overgrowth, symptons, rememdies, and meal plans. I found it very helpful in learning what yeast does to your body, how you develop candida, and how to stop the cycle.

5-0 out of 5 stars Help, finally!
This book has been a lifesaver for me!After 7 years of suffering from a myriad of symptoms, going from doctor to doctor, with no resolution to my problems, I finally got some relief after reading this book. Little did I know, all my symptoms were related to one root cause: systemic candidiasis. After doing some research on the internet, I was led to this book.I had seen several recommendations for it, and excellent reviews. This book will help you to confirm what is happening in your body, and give specific steps you can take to start treating yourself to feel better.I have been putting Dr. Crook's suggestions into practice for a little over a month now and I feel so much better! So far, I have only been able to use homeopathic remedies - no prescription drugs - and have noted a marked improvement in my general health and well-being. I highly recommend this book to anyone who suspects they have a systemic yeast infection.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good place to start
I agree, to a point, with the reviewers who didn't find this book to have all the answers, BUT like another reviewer pointed out, this should be just one of the books in your library. I have suffered from candida for more than 20 years. If the reviewer who claimed that candida was invented by the author had suffered from it, then (s)he would know that it is very real and can be, for some people, debilitating. I suggest you check this book out of the library before you buy it. If you are well versed in this disease, then you might not want to buy it... but if you are just starting your research, you'll find a lot of answers in here. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow! Incredible Book!
An Extraordinary Power to Heal is chock-full of information and personal stories about people who were able to make slight changes in their diets and really live a better life.It is very very impressive. But more impressive is that it makes some complicated topics, like the immune system, easy to understand. This is an excellent book to explain why yeast wreaks havoc on the body, and to help heal. The food plan is based on Feast Without Yeast, but is much more detailed. This book also has chapters specifically to help your own doctor prescribe nystatin, if you want that. The book is the total "bible" for yeast free living. All that is missing is the cookbook, which I found in Extraordinary Foods for the Everyday Kitchen and Feast Without Yeast. This is an easy diet to follow, because it is done gradually and only as much as you would need. This book was a lifesaver for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Extraordinary Power to Help!
I'd like to first, thank Dr. Semon for this book.An Extraordinary Power's approach has helped my son incredibly. Before I knew about the 4 stages, I never considered that the food I was preparing might in fact be harming my children. The book is well-laid out, and it gives a very comprehensive explanation as to why malt and other chemicals commonly found in foods are actually bad for us.My son was identified as mildly ADHD.This diagnosis was made and medication was recommended.Dr. Semon's book made it possible for us to change his diet (something we did very easily) and the difference in his behavior is remarkable! I was skeptical at first, but by following the first stage of the four stage diet, we saw an amazing difference in his ability to focus, and use self-control.Now, whenever we stray from the 1st Stage, we notice a spike in his hyperactivity. We get back to the 1st Stage, and he is once again in control. The book is well laid out and easy to follow. It is written in a language that is easy for anyone to understand and follow, and the chapters are written such that it doesn't need not be read in an exact order. An Extraordinary Power To Heal is exactly what it promises, a power to heal.I would highly recommend this book to any person or parent that is seeking help for ADHD or anyone who feels like they would like to improve their eating habits.

3-0 out of 5 stars Written in a hurry
Well, I liked so much Feast Without Yeast. That's the previous book about Candida from the same authors. And I wanted to know more about this beast, on a scientific point of view. So I ordered this one. Well I am disappointed. The book DO have some new material. But most of it is already on the web site. There are two chapters that are more interesting. Chapter 2 describes the toxic effect of Candida on our body. Chapter 8 discusses the interaction of Candida and our immune system. The final chapters discuss why there is not that much research on the subject, which is a cry of heart from the authors for more involvement from the part of universities and governments. The book has many flaws per se. First and foremost, it has many, did I say it, MANY typos and repetitions all over the book. This means to me that the material has not been well organized and that the book has been written in a hurry. It also makes me think that the book is much too long for what it really has to say. That's a sad story, given that the first book, Feast Without Yeast, is a very well written and concise book. 3 out of 5. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excelent!
Exclent book on the subject. Very thorough, very objective with a lot if hints.
2-0 out of 5 stars Beware of pseudoscience
It is very convenient to come up with a vague diagnosis for vague symptoms. There is very little hard evidence to support this diagnsosis.I am sure that there are people who are sensitive or allergic to yeast who feel much better when they avoid it.I think the problem is that anyone who doesn't feel good has symptoms that fit into those attributed to this problem.Testimonial benefits are worthless.Watch late night TV for diet products, hair growth products, etc... if you doubt that. I do agree that if we all ate a natural preservative free diet, exercised, etc.. that we'd all feel better.I am just not ready to attribute that all to yeast hypersensitivity and the authors have very little real evidence that this condition exists or is the cause of problems for so many.

5-0 out of 5 stars Life saving!! Give it 10 stars!!
I am a health professional and in 1995 at the age of 39 I found myself on 9 prescription medications and my health was quickly failing. I had a severe sleep disorder, tender spots, terrible arthralgia, reflux disease, colitis, neuropathy, dizziness, and fibromyalgia syndrome. My sister-in-law suggested that I had yeast syndrome. Of course being a by the book RN I blew her off. One day in a book store I happened to spot this book and leafed through it. I started crying right there because my doctors couldn't help me anymore but here was my help. This book saved my life. When I went to the health food store for help with the herbals the owner found it hard to believe that I could still work and raise a family in my condition. My husband, co-workers and doctor couldn't believe the difference in just a few weeks of starting the program. My doctor asked me what happened and recommended the book to other patients. It was not a fast process but I am fully recovered and sleep like a baby when the kids let me. I no longer feel like my body is 50 years older than I am.I have told countless people about this book and am very grateful it is being reprinted as I loaned mine out and it was never returned. This book is much more detailed than The Yeast Connection and was much more helpful to me. Thank you Dr. Trowbridge for saving my life. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Yeast Connection Handbook
I have SEVERE Fibromyalgia and this book has given me a new life!! I have not felt this well in THIRTY YEARS!! Also one of the fabulous benefits of this way of eating is that, in the first two weeks of using this cookbook, and eating as it issuggessted .....I lost SIXTEEN pounds and am still loosing and I am never hungry, except when it is time to eat again!! I HIGHLY reccommend this book! How I wish Dr. Crook had written it thirty years ago!!!2-0 out of 5 stars Poorly written
The book offered all the information that I had already read on the internet about Candida. It was poorly laid out and did not offer a comprehensive section on treatments. Yes, it listed some treatments, prescription and over the counter, but it did little in the way of telling me how much of what to take and any complications that may arise from taken them together or separately. All in all a poorly written book about information that is better obtained on the web.

5-0 out of 5 stars Read this book to learn about candida and how to remedy it.
Read Dr. Crook's book, if you have taken repeated doses of antibiotics, suffer from chronic yeast infections, or have any of the new modern diseases, CFS, FMS, even ADD.Candida effects both men and women. You can give Dr. Crook's book to your physician.Tell your physician that you want to get tested for yeast imbalance, and then hand him or her the "The Yeast Connection Handbook".Appendix A, "A Special Message To The Physician", has information directed toward skeptical doctors.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Over the Top
This book is in the catagory of information overload and treats Candida overgrowth in the same way as several other severe immunodeficient diseases are.In fact others conditions are included. The co-author being an M.D. helps present a rounded viewpoint.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful to Japanese reader too.
The auther seems to be very familier with Japanese food.I greatly appreciate for it.Because of her knowledge, I was saved by this book a lot.I didn't have to guess. One of the improvement I'd like to ask is more entries in the index listings.Often I found no entry in the index when I wanted to look in later.I had to have an extended time to locate what I was looking for.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't bother with this garbage
This book is just another 'low fat/high carb is the way to go' and a vegetarian diet is the best for everyone piece of junk.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Book That Started it All
Dr. Crook was one of the first to write about CFS,this book does have cartoons which make it easier to understand. This book changed/saved my life. My daughter & I were diagnosed in 1983(a rarity in itself back then)and told "good news is, yes there is something wrong with you. Bad news is there really isn't a standard drug or treatment. Except expensive immunoglobin therapy that your insurance won't cover since they don't really recognize CFS as an illness!" I didn't get the book until 1990 and read it from cover to cover the first night. Remember no real internet then and GNC carried vitamins and body building supplements, no St.Johns Wort, forget Acidopholous and CoQ10 sounded like a Star Wars character.THANKS TO DR. CROOK these things plus many others in the book made a complete difference in my health. Yes the other books listed are more informative, they were published later. If you can still find this one read it first. P.S. I was searching AMAZON because my 2nd copy is now so tattered and covered with notes from people I've loaned it to that it resembles a high school yearbook complete with heartfelt comments:)

5-0 out of 5 stars Helpful Information
This book had extremely helpful information for those suffering from symptoms that relate to Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. The author gives practical advice and explains the cause of often misunderstood symptoms such as itching, headaches, nausea, dizziness, difficulty concentrating, etc.If you are suffering from CFS, Fibromyalgia, or allergy symptoms, I highly recommend this book. This book was far easier to read and understand than many books on the topic. It also address overconsumption of sugar as a problem, which many authors are reluctant to address.

2-0 out of 5 stars Don't bother
I've read other Yeast Connection books and they were much better than this one. The book has an over abundance of cartoons used for illustration and instruction, so much so that they are extremely distracting and make it very difficult to read. All of the information covered in this book can be read in the Yeast Connection Handbook and others. It basically repeats other books and adds too many cartoons to fill in the pages. ... Read more

Reading this book changed my life forever.Following Dr. Remington's sound advice and treatment plan restored my health after an illness other doctors didn't know how to treat.Candida overgrowth can cause anxiety, headaches, food allergies, and baffling fatigue, while treating it can help combat fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, behavioral and learning problems in children, and other "uncurable" illnesses. As long as our society consumes antibiotics in our meat and milk and refined flours and sugars by the ton, more and more of us will need to read this book. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive and very well put together.
I've read many books on this subject. The best thing about this book is that it gives you hope. 3 stages to this diet and easily explained with common sense and science. The recipes are easy and wonderful. There are appropriate lists of foods that help you see how to plan. This is not a "fad book" but brilliantly put together by women who know the subject and have lived the misery. There is simply not one negative I could say about this. It is the only book I've seen that gives a person a complete understanding of what is going on within the body, the consequences, and a way out that leaves you with a positive outlook. Gone are the absolutes of a bland menu. The ideas are new and undated. Everyone has their own version of things, as is said, but this is a plan that is possible to follow and also enjoy at the same time. Not kidding. The recipes are good enough for someone not suffering the condition also. Good for guys too. We can get this imbalance also. You can't lose.

4-0 out of 5 stars Our Internal Unwanted Guest
Most Americans are harboring this dreaded over grown bacteria and it is being overlooked by thier doctors. As long as Americans stay on thier typical diets of antibiotic laced meat, sugar and processed foods they are headed for a condition they would not wish upon thier worst enimies. This book should be read by every one who wants to stay well and those that don't you need not read this very helpful method to prevent future sickness.

4-0 out of 5 stars An excellent introduction to candida albicans.
I had already been diagnosed with candida albicans when I had the good fortune to find this little book.I read it in one sitting and was released from years of guilt and confusion over my uncontrollable emotions. I learned that emotional instability, among many other symptoms, was dueto the candida.I am purchasing multiple copies of this book to give to myfamily and friends because it is an excellent and easily understood tool topresent candida albicans to people who have never heard of it.It is notthe definitive work on the subject but it has enough information to get yougoing. The natural course of curing candida is much more successful thanusing pharmaceutical drugs and this book touches on that area.I wish thatthere was more information on curing candida in this book but other thanthat, it was extrememly helpful and encouraging.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Candida Control Cookbook:What you Should Know and What You Should Eat to Manage Yeast Infections
This book is informative and gives a good idea of what to eat and not to eat. I appreciate the many recipes showing a variety of ways to prepare the limited foods we are allowed to eat during the die off period.

5-0 out of 5 stars Informative Cookbook
This is a very informative cookbook. The recipes are the best I have found (and this is the third cookbook I have purchased).I wish I had known about using 100% pure vegetable glycerine as a sweetener months ago!Her recipes make you feel like you are eating "real" food again.
