An awesome resource
Recently diagnosed with ADD I've been battling at work for accommodations.My doctor/therapist provided me a document for accommodations just this week.It took the harrassment from a supervisor away.I went to HR and let her know that the Department Manager has been very good about this, letting me know what he expects.I mentioned that I had read in the book about the need for organizers and I would have purchased a Palm today, but the store was out.She got up, pulled out a box and there was a Palm.She indicated that this could be used as an accommodation.I asked if I found the reference if that would be enough and it was agreed.I went back to my desk, and turned to the right page, took it back to her, and she's putting in a request to have it installed on my computer at the office and it's now an accommodation.I've followed the advice in the book about using "to do" lists, and it has really helped to keep me focused just on what I need to do.I highly recommend the book, as well as Sari Solden's "Women with ADD"

Needs updating
While reading some of the previous reviews, I saw one that mentioned "contemporary science" - written in 1999. The first Amazon.com customer review for this book is from 1997. If I'd read it then, I would have rated it higher. But a book that deals with anything medical needs to be updated long before it's a decade old, which this one now is. The chapter on medication is completely outdated; it shouldn't be referred to by anyone who wants to know what options are available now. And while all the scientific/medical questions about ADD/ADHD haven't been answered, more is known now than when this book was written.

You've got to read this book!
I received this book as a gift. There are quite a few books on this subject on the market and this one is the best. I too could not put it down and finished it in 3 days. It's a huge book, a great resource that is well researched and written.. I have a few friends who've purchased this book and really loved it too. I can highly recommend this book.
Great first TTC book to read...
My husband and I are looking to start a family in the next 5-6 months. I just finished reading this book and found it to be very informative, especially for someone who is just taking the first steps at learning how to optimally prepare for trying to conceive.It is written in simplistic language (which could seem overly simplified and repetitive to those who were already familiar with the information but was absolutely perfect for me, who just wanted to soak up all the information I could and fully understand what steps to take to promote pregnancy in the timeframe we are hoping for).I think it is perfect to read about 4-6 months prior to trying or if you have been having difficulty in conceiving, as the author does take a significant amount ot time explaining possible causes and alternatives.

Finally, a dialogue aboutthe elephant in the living room
Thank God Mr. Gingold had the courage and generosity to break the silence and call a spade a spade. Reading my story, almost
I do not feel so alone.
I thought my problems with MS were mostly physical and even those were invisible to most people. When I read this book by Jeffrey Gingold I felt sad and relieved at the same time. When I worked at the bank I had a similar experience to his.My customer just stood there as I look perplexed. I forgot how do do something that I had does hundreds of times. I just stood there and asked the person next to me if they could take over because I felt sick.I then disguised my memory problems with different strategies like he did. I have since retired fron the bank at the age of 39. I struggled to keep working with my diagnosis from the age of 31 but at 39 I had to change my priorities. I am going to try and get my family to read this so they can understand the struggle of this unpredictable disease. I highly recommend this book to someone with MS and medical personel that are working with people that have MS . Thank You Mr. Gingold!!!

A Good Reference Book
"Kids in the syndrome Mix..." is a good reference book, listing disorders and giving tips for parents and teachers that should help them understand the children in the syndrome mix better. However, I feel it lacks in-depth information and details on direct application in the classroom. That might be beyond the scope of the book; therefore, you will have to look for that information elsewhere. In conclusion, the book serves the purpose of a stepping stone for further study - or it can be read as a quick guide, depending on your level of interest.

Great Read - Lots of Information
This book is useful for so many reasons.It is great for teachers or others who intereact with individuals with a variety of special needs.It is perfect for parents who are trying to narrow down/begain to understand their child's diagnosis.It is perfect for a child who has an Alphabet Soup diagnosis - multiple dx - for one book which address all of them.I would reccomend you read this book!!It is well writen and full of great information

Excellent information on effective, inexpensive, nonaddictive, safe, nonsurgical pain control
Unfortunately, many effective, less expensive, safe pain treatments receive almost no advertising, since they are not very profitable for manufacturers or practitioners. FDA approval for a new treatment or procedure usually requires clinical trials costing at least $[...]. Naturally occurring vitamins, minerals, hormones and herbs are not patentable, unless the natural molecule is altered or a new delivery system is developed. Insurers seldom pay for treatments and procedures, which are not FDA approved. Universities and medical schools rely heavily on financial support from pharmaceutical manufacturers.Most effective inexpensive remedies will never receive the expensive newspaper, magazine, radio and television publicity, which more expensive patented prescription medications receive. Many of our patients have had numerous endoscopies and scans, costing thousands of dollars, which did not provide as much useful diagnostic or treatment information as the reader can obtain from reading this book. Teitelbaum's protocols and concepts have been especially effective with our migraine sufferers, many of whom have reduced their migraine pain, 96 to 98 percent, without using any painkillers. Thanks to this book and compounding pharmacists, we have been able to formulate prescription pain creams which relieve 90 to 100 percent of fibromyalgia pain, in our patients, with virtually no side effects and no addiction risk. We have successfully eliminated numerous restless leg syndromes, chronic fatigue syndromes and irritible bowel syndromes, using information contained in this book. The colchicine infusions he recommends eliminated 100% of herniated lumbar disc pain, in one of our patients. The herbal gastritis and reflux protocols have worked for almost every patient we have treated with them. It reduced my old ski injury pain fifty percent, in about an hour. (I had a morphine injection once for it, when it flared so intensely, I could not walk.) Simple, non-invasive cure!
It's hard to believe that suffering so long with jaw pain could be alleviated so quickly by just doing some simple exercises! I was pain-free in two weeks, and now I only notice pain during times of stress when I must be unconsciously grinding. Then I resume the exercises and once again, the pain disappears! Try these exercises before you take any other action! Some 'cures' make the problem worse, and this is such a simple, inexpensive, and affective solution!

What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Hypothyroidism
I have read many, many books on the subject and many of those have been very practical and informative, but this one is a MUST for anyone with this health problem, I even took it for my Dr to peruse, since he is an open minded MD. Don't skip this one!

If your thyriod meditcation doesn't seem to be working, read this book
I think this book shows the many complications with thyroid problems; one medicine does not fit all.I took the book to my last medical visit because my doctor is very open minded when it comes to discussing the complications of the condition and subsequent treatment, some of the scenarios in the book described my experience.I am now trying a different approach.This book may help a lot of people understand why even though they are taking medication for thyroid complications, they are still not feeling as good as they should. It made a difference for me.

Use it for what it is
This book isn't for people who are trying to conceive.For those who are preparing to do it in the future it offers good information on diet and environmental hazards.Use it for what it is and it is useful.If you are trying to conceive this book isn't for you.

Save your money
This book was useless. It is a great idea to have a book about conception however this book fails to live up to the lofty task. I think my biggest complaint with the book is the fact that the book is dull and really doesn't go into terffic detail about how life changes after a baby. An Excellent Resource for Adult ADHD
As a co-owner of the ADDvisor, we hosted a teleconference featuring Dr. Lenard Adler in May. Dr. Adler was a very engaging speaker and provided many valuable insights into adult ADHD. Dr. Adler's new book, Scattered Minds, highlights both his knowledge about ADHD with writing that is both accessible and readable. This goes for professionals as well as the general public. In understandable terms, Dr. Adler describes the neurobiology of ADHD, the co-existing conditions that often accompany ADHD, medications and complimentary treatments and alternative treatments. 'Scattered Minds' can be used as a reference for questions as they come up or can be read cover-to-cover. Either way, your book shelf will be more valuable as you collect your resources about ADHD.

You've got to read this book!

This book wasn't that terrible, but...
It wasn't very good, either. The gist of the book is this:

I can't say any other adjective for the book, other than it's nice. It seems sugar coated to me, because obviously she has suffered more than she leads on. OK, i see that the results are fantastic, but still, i just can't believe everything she says. But I hope that's exactly what she went through, because it's very motivating. (I think, because for those people who didn't lose as much weight, it can be pretty stressful) As for the recipes, I didn't try them yet, but other than that I think it's good resource. Does not help at all
I actually returned this book because it had very little , if anything, to do with WHY you actually compulsively eat. it did not go into or even explained the psychological factors that influence C.O. all this book talk about is how women's self-image is polluted with diet ads etc, etc. it does not deal at all with how to actually stop, in an effective way.
true story
This book is full of good information on why a person overeats. It isn't a book you can read in one evening. It will take some time to read it thoroughly.

Its not about food
I wish I could say I lost 20 pounds but I haven't but am on the way too. I'm 5'4 and 120 pounds and obsess about food. Although it focused on undereating which to me was very annoying because overeating is more of an epidemic than undereating, yet the authors chose to equate the two. Anyways, this book is a worth read because for once in my life they made me believe that food is not your friend, it is not a panacea, it is just food, and it doesn't solve your problems. For years I have hid in food, now I am mad because I can no longer do so. It was easy, but it didn't work. For the first time in 2 years I cried, I stopped myself, but at least I did it a little. Anyhow, I recommend this book for the sole fact that it broke up my relationship with food, which is very painful but I am no longer a coward. ... Read more

Why Stomach Acid is Good for You

This book is highly informative. It describes digestion/ stomach acid process, ideal acid level(s), numerous disorders / symptoms of too low of stomach acid, and why ACID BLOCKERS are actually TOXIC / DANGEROUS (like Prilosec / Tums) to ingest regularly or indefinitely.

This book should be read by everyone!
Fantastic book! If you are at all interested in optimum health and well being or know someone suffering healthwise, this is a must read. Not the only way
I found the book to be a litte condradictory. It acknowledges that other alternative therapies have cured terminal cancer via nutrition life style changes.It later leads you to believe if the protocal is not followed to the letter your cancer will return.This is simply not true. Whole foods is the key and detoxification. I know of a man who dissolved over 50 tumors in his body thru eating more fruits and veggies and coffee enemas and suplimentation of vitamins and minerals not mentioned in this book.He also has not juiced one drop of veggies or fruit.

Excellent resource for care givers!
In reviewing this book, I discovered it is an excellent resource not only for professional care providers, but for family members as well. There are very detailed examples of specific activities to do on a daily basis, and could be easily adapted for varying levels of dementia.

I CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT THIS BOOK.

one of the best medical texts I have read....
As a physical therapist working in the field for 25 years, I have read many medical textbooks. I recently read "Massage for Orthpedic Conditions" by Thomas Hendrickson, D.C., and found it to be extremely well written, very organized and informative. It was an excellent review of anatomy, and clearly described the hows and whys of his unique massage techniques. I highly recommend it to any physical therapist, massage therapist or other allied health professional.
