I received this book as a gift. There are quite a few books on this subject on the market and this one is the best. I too could not put it down and finished it in 3 days. It's a huge book, a great resource that is well researched and written.. I have a few friends who've purchased this book and really loved it too. I can highly recommend this book.

2-0 out of 5 stars Repeat of information from other books
If you think you are buying a book with over 300 pages of recipes, save your money.Over 2/3 of the book is repeat advice about how to eat the "real age way".Along with this repeated information from Dr. Roizen's previous Real Age books is "silly" advice ranging from what kitchen utensils will increase your kitchen IQ along with how and when to buy produce.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not nearly enough recipes
I love Dr. Roizen, and Dr. Oz, who both have appeared on Oprah many times.Their not about fad diets, etc., but just eating right.I was dissapointed with this book, though.I thought I was getting a cookbook, and instead it was 3/4 reading and 1/4 recipes.I thought it was hard to follow. "You" The owners Manual is a much better book to read, which was written by both Dr. Roizen and Dr. Oz.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is an excellent book!
Emotinally eating is nothing new--we've all done it, we'll probably do it in the future. The problem lies in the fact, as this book suggests, that we can overcome it and get onto better eating habits. Inside the book, I found invaluable information and want to definitely pass it along to others. This is one not to be missed! Another good one I've read and got a lot out of, as far as losing weight, is "Fatass No More".

5-0 out of 5 stars UNIVERSAL TRUTHS(with a Small Side of Silly)
It's been a long road to get to today.Same as all of us with these disorders.Tried everything, always failed.Always got to that point on a diet where an overwhelming "need" to eat just one more little bit lead to a full-blown, raging, ravenous inhalation of everything edible in sight, a trip to the store for more, and a promise to start again tomorrow, Monday, or on the 1st, or after the holidays are over, or after my birthday, etc. ad nauseum.
5-0 out of 5 stars So glad I found it
I would recommand this book to anyone that eats because of stress, depression, bored, etc. This book made me really think and gave good advice to realize why I eat the way I do.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book on coconut!
This book has opened the eyes of skeptics who believe that coconut oil is bad for you because it is saturated.Until I read this book, I didn't realize how healthy coconut oil is.I've loaned this book to my friends and they have started using coconut oil.I only use coconut oil for cooking and coconut concentrate for spread on bagels or toast instead of butter. It's very yummy!Tropical traditions's coconut products are excellent!
3-0 out of 5 stars Coconut oil is great!
The authors of this book have done a great service in bringing coconut oil to the attention of health conscious people. If you want to learn more about how to use coconut oil in your diet, you can also consult EAT FAT, LOSE FAT written by Sally Fallon who is a superb cook, and has included a wide range of delicious recipes. That book is also authored by Mary Enig, the leading expert on healthy fats who was 30 years before her time in pointing out transfats dangers. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Just OK
I bought this book hopeing to get into shape for my wedding, I find it dificult to follow. Yes she does map out a plan but you have to filp back and forth and practilly memorize the book before you go to the gym to get the moves down!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great even for those whose wedding is years away
I actually didn't buy this book because I am getting married anytime soon - since I am not - but because I had heard that it is one of the most comprehensive exercise books out. From the ones that I have encountered, I have to agree. It combines easy to understand (not always so easy to do - at least the first time) routines with tips on how to get yourself motivated. And the charts that come with it are a great tool to get anyone started on a comprehensive fitness program, whether you have a year or just a few months.

5-0 out of 5 stars I WENT FROM LAZY TO ATHLETE!!!
If i could wrap up Tamara and her program and take them home I would! I went from being totally unmotivated to get my butt off the couch to exercising daily. i totally toned up and can now wear the clothing i want to. I feel fantastic. i have tons of energy, my confidence is soaring and i know i will be a beautiful bride. I changed my dress to something i really wanted - strapless - now that i have sexy arms. We just booked our honeymoon vacation and I can't wait to get on that bikini and hit the beach. Ladies, I highly recommend this book. The exercise routines are easy to follow, the nutritional section is tasty and the motivation keeps you going. Thanks Bootcamp360!!!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars 100 ideas in 100 days of intimate personal education
In her attempt to deal with the crisis of overeating and obesity, the author took a long shot at the psychology of such unrestrained human behavior. She started by defining the place of food in people's life, the rule of conscious behavior, and the body's response to over eating. She then tackles the motivation, emotion, and triggers that master such behavior and proposes distracting gimmicks to modify eating behavior. Finally, she hopes for long term adherence to a new healthy pattern of behavior that she strove to construct.
5-0 out of 5 stars Well written thought provoking book, good for focusing the reader to stay on track
A 44-year-old woman that has struggled to lose weight for a number of years writes this review. The combination of too much work, and not enough sleep and exercise resulted in "excess storage tissue" as my darling husband likes to call it.If you have ever struggled with excess weight and couldn't motivate yourself to stick with a diet for the long haul you should read this book.

I would highly recommend this book to those who desire to improve their health by incorporating flax seeds and flax oil into the diet. The cookbook gives many ways to include flax oil at every meal and even for dessert. The ice cream recipes using flax oil are absolutely delicious.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Oil Protein Diet Cookbook, by Johanna Dr. Budwig
This book is the companion to her first book. While the first book is really a compilation of her various lectures to peers over a long span of years, this book actually explains in more detail how her diet works and also suggests diets that are nutritious to the point of being adequate for athletes in training. If I had to choose "one" this would be IT.As a cancer victim myself you can read my review of the other book about how well her diet works.Buying this book and following her diet will be the best investment in your own health you will ever make.Buy and read both her books, but especially this one. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars The 1200-Calorie-a-day Menu Cookbook
It is very informative and has several great recipes.Needs a few more pictures and a possible menu plan. But over all a good book to give you some recipes to get you started in planning your 1200 calorie a day menu.

3-0 out of 5 stars Misunderstanding
The only complaint I have about this book is that I thought it would help me cook a 1,200 calorie a day menu for myself.I was looking for a book to help me learn to cook for 1 or two.The recipes contained in this book are for 4-6 servings.

5-0 out of 5 stars Most useful cookbook I own
This cookbook is SUCH a good idea! The fact that it has so many menus that total under 1200 calories is so helpful when eating "less" can be so boring. And, that it has breakfast as well as lunch & dinner is unusual for a "diet" cookbook, too. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Solid Guide To Living Healthy
Jill Fleming's book is a common sense approach to living healthy and losing weight~in that order. And it isn't difficult to accomplish these goals if we just apply a few simple lifestyle changes which Jill details in "easy to digest" form. As I was reading, I kept thinking to myself "this makes total sense, this is do-able". I even highlighted my favorite points and reference them from time to time.
5-0 out of 5 stars Finally, a simple, common-sense approach to weight loss.
No gimmicks, no forbidden foods, no endless chapters of vague promises about the program to be described later in the (usually too large) book. This is a slim volume of tips and facts that make perfect sense and are completely doable.
5-0 out of 5 stars Takes you back to common sense
This reminds me of things I was taught when I was a little girl by mother. The simplicity of eating and staying thin before we even realized the medical reasons or the explanation and understanding of what makes us fat.We have been given so much bad information with fad diets with self proclaimed cures and treatments when it is very simple. None of the diets out there tellyou to stop eating when you are full. None of them tell you to listen to your body. There are bad fats and there are bad carbs but eating healthy and not eating too much is important too and not over feeding your body. This book will get you started on small changes at a time that willhelp you behave and eat like a thin person until you are a thin person. It also helps you and teaches you to indentify the reasons why you abuse food. The author is also a caring individual. I e-mailed her with a question and she replied to my e-mail the very next day with an answer and words of encouragement. That in itself is encouraging. I am sick of people getting wealthy on this growing epidemic. Every other TV commericial is trying to sellyou something. You buy them all and you are still fat.If you want the refreshing truth...read this book!It is easy to read and to understand. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Low Carb and low fat - is that what you really want?
I've read through the whole book, but haven't actually tried any of the recipes yet. They sound good, but she uses non-fat products frequently.A good low carb diet needs good fats included in it.If I use these recipes I will be using products that still have the fat in them.

5-0 out of 5 stars even kids like it
This is my first review but I had to let people know that this book is so easy, fast and the best tasting food I ever made. We tried all kinds of new foods through this book that I normally wouldn't buy. I'm no cook but even my finicky kids loved these recipes. It's also nice to know we're eating healthier. Great book!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Unwieldy in Every Sense, Needs Revision
I give this book three stars because I don't regret buying it, and I've used it frequently.
2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
Foods are conveniently organized alphabetically, but portions are not clear so it's difficult to use when trying to track calories.Example, grapefruit shown by size (diameter) - would be more accurate and convenient if all foods were shown in ounces and if the portion preceded nutritional content on every line.

3-0 out of 5 stars Uniform measurements, please!
We have been using this book for about a decade, and appreciate that it does seem to include every morsel of food in a supermarket aisle.

2-0 out of 5 stars Low Calorie, Complex Carb, Low Glycemic Diet Book
Denise Austin's book, if you follow her plan, will help you lose weight. It comes from keeping calories very low (fewer than 1500 a day), eating complex carbs and protein, and exercising. There is nothing here that a person cannot get off the internet for free or in a fitness magazine from the grocery store.Austin has "daily dozen" exercises, which are a cross between yoga moves and calisthenics, and she says 30 minutes of walking a day is also necessary. Duh. She also points out the the Daily Dozen are really for people who are sedentary and not those who already are pretty fit. Another thing that bugged me was that she "tried" the low-carb diet for ONE day and it made her tried and cranky so she KNEW that it was bogus. Well, I'm not saying Atkins is the way to go, but when I went off sweets for a month I wanted to die either by my own hand or someone else's -- I was so miserable with headaches and mood swings that I thought I was hitting early menopause, yet no one would tell me that I should keep eating Hostess Ding Dongs if they make me feel better.
3-0 out of 5 stars Lots of info, not enough good recipes
Denise is great with providing a ton of useful information in this book. The recipes weren't as appealing as I thought they would be. I read the book for the first couple days that I had it, but haven't opened it since. The recipes really did nothing for me to actually attempt to make them.

1-0 out of 5 stars If anyone eats 1300 calories...
you are going to lose weight.I don't care what you eat.I was initially attracted to this book because I agree that eating "no carbs" is a gimmick and nutritionally unsound. But to claim that diabetics can eat small portions of white flour and sugar is like telling an alcoholic they can just have one glass of wine.Irresponsible! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Worth reading
This book does come off as a bit redundant but that's what it takes to really get the message across; after all, this guide doesn't teach you tricks on how to get your kids to eat, it teaches the PARENTS how to feed properly. Therefore, redundancy is essential. I can't honestly say that I am "generous" with salt or fat but I support Ellyn Satter's attitude towards these issues. Pressure or restriction in ANY area typically causes rebellion. This book isn't just about feeding, it's about educating our children by changing our own attitudes.

5-0 out of 5 stars From food struggles to pleasant meals in 2 days
Two days is all it took for us to go from a struggle with our 15-month old at EVERY meal, to having happy, pleasant family meals where our toddler actually eats a variety of foods.
5-0 out of 5 stars Saved from a dangerous road
My Dr. recommended this book to me when my daughter was seven months old, and it saved me from going down some very dangerous roads!

2-0 out of 5 stars There are better books out there
OK -- I should start out by saying I'm not a college student. I'm a 44-year-old who's always struggled with my weight and read just about every diet book ever written. So, although much of the advice is good, I've seen almost all of it before. But I think what bugged me most is that the book is very repetitious and padded -- she gives the same tips and the same "Friends" and "Foes" food lists over and over, and if there's one thing that drives me nuts, it's a padded book! There's lots of white space and big colored blocks, too.The useful info could have been condensed down to about 25 pages. Also, I think some of her natural/ herbal rememdies are bogus.Echinacea was recently proven to be absolutely worthless in fighting colds -- and I think those test results were printed over a year ago, before this book went to press. She also makes magical claims for grapefruit and herbal teas, none of which I think are true.I'm surprised that a doctor's daughter would include this stuff.
5-0 out of 5 stars You've got to read this book!
I received this book as a gift. There are quite a few books on this subject on the market and this one is the best. I too could not put it down and finished it in 3 days. It's a huge book, a great resource that is well researched and written.. I have a few friends who've purchased this book and really loved it too. I can highly recommend this book.
4-0 out of 5 stars Dorm Room Diet - Solid Lifestyle Approach for All Really
Oz talks sense. From the first chaper, I was hooked. She suggested making a minor change for the first week. I cut back on one soft drink per day - from 3 down to 2. That was quite painless. I also took her starter tips - drink water before meals and don't eat closer than 2 hours before bedtime. Again, those were minor and didn't crimp my style.

5-0 out of 5 stars Invaluable resource
Bev Laumann's cookbook is far more than that: it is a carefully researched, thorough, easily comprehended guide for the IC patient. The level of detail is amazing, and is presented so that you can delve deeper if you are inclined, or skip ahead to the many summaries, useful lists and recipes. She is quick to differentiate between what has been demonstrated by scientific methods, what is common people with IC, and what is more anecdotal. The needs of people with related conditions are addressed, especially concerns about balancing low-oxalate and IC diets.Throughout, her tone is positive and encouraging without ever sounding condescending. The book much more than I had hoped for - I can't praise it enough. If you are dealing with IC and frustrated or confused about how to manage food, nutrients, supplements, or cooking, this book should be a terrific help.

5-0 out of 5 stars MORE than just a cookbook for IC!
This book is great. In addition to great recipes with easy substitutions for other diseases, this book includes a special treasure of information on IC and its causes, relationship to diet, etc. It is highly educational. I don't cook much since the IC pretty much took away my appetite, but I'd buy this book for the IC information alone! It's hard to find a more complete and useful collection of info about IC and the various diseases that too frequently accompany it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Well done!
Excellent reference for anyone dealing with the limitations of an IC diet.Well worth the money. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Greattoolforhealth!
This is a value filled book. We consider it a needed reference book in our kitchen. It has a huge amount of nutritional information. We had to have it as a reference book after discovering it at the library.Plus, Amazon.com has it for the best $ value as well!

4-0 out of 5 stars Almost Baked
To be a reference, a book must have a decent index! So many publishers overlook this point. Having read through volumes of data, I remembered seeing interesting points but had a devil of a time locating them again. I had to literally leaf through the book a second time with sticky notes. Don't count on using this book as a reference. Do count on it for comprehensive nutritional information. (Just parse the dogma.) It is the best book I've read to date on nutrition: readable, thorough and pragmatic.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lead a lifestyle of health and well-being through nutrition
I have read the first edition prior to this one and it was such an informative book that I bought myself the second edition.Researching nutrition for years, I must say this has to be my favorite out of all other nutrition books I've encountered.Of course each book has its own purpose and flavor, but if you want a good entry book into health and overall well-being (for yourself and/or your family) driven by nutrition, this is the one you need.Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not for experienced runners!
I was looking for a book to help me make better choices with my diet that would help me tone up and energize my runs. This book is geared toward people who used to run and would like to get back to it or people who want to run. I am currently pulling down 30+ miles per week and most of the examples were running 16 miles per week.
3-0 out of 5 stars Still reading
I'm still reading the book but this seems to be a book suited for novice runners or even walkers. The "running" plans described in the book are really plans for walking and walking/running. When you have gotten to where you are running, she leaves you hanging.
5-0 out of 5 stars Just what I was looking for

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this CD
I've only used this CD for a week but I know it's working. My cravings for sweets and potato chips are gone. If you knew me you would know how big a deal this is for me.Aside from that, the CD is wonderful for relaxing the body. I've reccomended it to several family members, they are just waiting for their copy to arrive. you can use this CD for many things you would like to change in your life. you just have to have the desire to do so. Expect change and it will happen.

1-0 out of 5 stars Useless and Ineffective
I'm embarassed to have purchased this. I tried it and it has no effect.

5-0 out of 5 stars Take Controlof your Eating
I've been listening to the CD's for three weeks and there have been a lot of changes for me in how I approach food and eating.I have tried to control my emotional eating for years and now for the first time I can. I feel like I am in control and not always thinking about food. My appetite is under control as well and I'm losing weight.I love knowing I can put on my headphones and get the support I'll need.I don't don't know how it works, I just know that for the first time I "feel" really differently about food, eating and how that should naturally work in my life. I recommend these CD's to anyone struggling with a weight problem, poor self-

2-0 out of 5 stars Needs a more clear diet section, this was not worth buying
I have read on Hypothyroid and this is not the book I was looking for, as to help me to speed up my metabolism.I would like to find a book that just is plain and gives examples of diets and foods to eat.Disappointed....

3-0 out of 5 stars Good for info, not all of it worth following
I was so excited to get this book and I read it like a bible. I tried many of the things that Shoman suggests. Some work, some don't. I think that's her point--it's all about trial and error for us hypothyroid people and what works for me may not work for you. She merely provides as much info as she's gathered about what's worked for some people. I'm glad I read it--not many of the things worked for me, but it helped me understand my condition better. Recipes weren't great--rather plain. I've been doing Sonoma for a couple of months and have lost 20 pounds--much happier with that diet and it's working! Sonoma fits the guidelines Shoman sets out very well. Worth trying
