4-0 out of 5 stars The Dash Diet Action Plan
It was a great read. It was informative but not a boring. I would reccomend this to anyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book makes it easy!
The other books, and the federal guidelines didn't make it easy to follow the DASH diet. Finally, a book that makes it practical. It has real life suggestions, without getting too bogged down in the minutia of how the research was done. This plan helped me lower my blood pressure. And I didn't expect that I would find it so easy to lose weight, too. Real common sense approach (that isn't really so common today). Definately recommended for anyone who wants a healthy way of eating, rather than a fad diet that makes big promises.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good but overpriced
When I received this book, I almost thought it was the wrong book.Although there is a lot of information, much of it is common sense.I received another book that was less than $10 more but the author is well known and the book was three times the size with pictures and extensive information. If this DASH book is going to get many sales, the price definitely needs to drop.I was honestly expecting a lot of recipes and would never have ordered it if I hadn't seen it first.Sorry. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars More recipe ideas for the guy on the go
This latest book in the Abs Diet franchise is essentially another recipe book. As the title indicates, these are quickie recipes that can be made in minutes, though they throw in a few more involved meals at the end. Be clear, these are tasty and healthful recipes aimed at the fitness-oriented individual. You don't have to necessarily be following the Abs Diet plan per se, but anyone who has adopted a weightlifting + aerobics exercise program with a high-protein, controlled-carb and controlled-fat diet will find this book has what you're looking for, especially if you want meals you can make quickly and stick into a tupperware container to eat throughout the day.
4-0 out of 5 stars Not Bad at All
Handy book with lots of recipes that keep you on the Abs Diet. Very useful and straightforward. Could be a little better organized, but overall it's a great tool for shedding body fat.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Lastest Companion for a Great Book - Helped me lost more than 200 lbs in a Healthy Way
This is the perfect companion for the "The Abs Diet: The Six-Week Plan to Flatten Your Stomach and Keep You Lean for Life" Book, and "The ABS Diet Eat right Everytime Guide". Buy this book only if you at least have read the first "ABS Diet" Book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not another diet book.
This is an excellent book that deals with the reasons why people overeat, not just another diet. Most people do not overeat because they're hungry. This book actually teaches people what hunger feels like again. It also incorporates good nutrition and increased activity.

5-0 out of 5 stars I'm Losing Weight and I'm Not On A Diet!
I would give this book 10 stars if I could! I had done every diet known to man, and I lost weight, but I kept putting it back on.I realized that "diets" don't work for me.I had completly given up any hope for attaining a lean figure. How could I live without Starbucks Mocha Chip ice cream in my life? Then I read "Am I Hungry" and my life is turned around!Michelle's easy step-by-step methods have taught me how to understand my hunger and eating cycles, and also how to give my body what it needs and wants.I have lost 16 pounds in a few short months and I get to eat ice cream, too!All I need to ask myself is "Am I Hungry?".

5-0 out of 5 stars Hope for Overeaters!
This book has changed how I look at food! The hands-on, practical strategies presented in this book make sense and are definitely attainable. Each chapter is broken into sections that help develop intuitive, intentional, instinctive eating skills; teach us how to learn to move our bodies again; and how to make healthyfood choices, empowered with a knowledge base of what we really need to fuel our bodies! This is a powerful program, no shame or guilt and all food fits! So take charge of your life and your health, you can do it! I also highly recommend the seminars! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Important work if one understands its place
This is an important work, helping to document the validity of herbal medicine. However, it is not an all-encompassing work and obviously isn't referenced. Nevertheless, the German Commission E's method of publishing monographs based on the information gathered from companies, researchers, and practitioners (but apparently kept confidential) serves a useful purpose. It is always helpful to consult this text to get some solid conformation for common traditional uses. Every practitioner and researcher should have this book, though it certainly cannot be used in a vacuum.

2-0 out of 5 stars Huge Disappointment!
I had hoped this book could be my benchmark for herbal information. What I found was a book that was hard to use with little useful information....Otherwise, Facts and Comparisions' Review of Natural Products is a better choice.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Most Solid and Dependable Work on the Market
I have worked with herbs for many decades and have shelves and shelves full of works on Herbs and Healing. The German Commission E Monographs is still an often used Reference that in my oppinion belongs on everyone's shelf who works with Herbs. True, it does not cover all that the herbs are capable of and due to lack of proof, many wonderful herbs are not approved, BUT, and this is most important, whatever you find in this book is scientifically proven and you can believe it. I VERY strongly recomend this book, and the CD as well.Whenever you explore a new herb, or need to know facts, check it out in the Commission E Monographs. Then you have a very good outline from where you can start to work with, and together with other herbals get to know and experiment to arrive at your own conclusion. And that is not to mention the inclusion of interaction with other drugs, side effects, mode of administration, active composition for each monograph and different chapters that cover all that is important.A MUST for every practitioner and professional. A MUST for Everyone involved in healing, period. If you can only buy one book on herbs, I would recomend this one. Herbs are gentle and effective healers as a rule. That does not mean that when handeled and prescribed wrong they can't be fatal and dangerous as well.Due to a long time of suppression, there's much information that is doubtful at best, plain wrong and harmful at worst. So even if it's not always approving old favorites, and not mentioning all properties of all herbs, it is an amazing work. Non Nonsense and you can count on everything it says to be true. Five Stars? No way, but that's the maximum available. I would give it many more if I could. But YOU be the judge. Check it out for yourself in a store if in doubt. But don't let this work pass you without giving it a chance. It is truly a treassure. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A sound, commonsense guide to massive energy increases and weight loss
This is just an excellent book.I have an older copy and it starts off with a full chapter of testimonies from happy customers. The author defends herself and the diet vigorously which surprised me -everyone I know who has followed it says it works miracles.
2-0 out of 5 stars Not quite what I had hoped
This was not what I was really looking for, as the title of this review may have suggested. I did learn a few things, and the diet itself looks interesting, though I have not tried it. But to me, the book was more self-promoting than educational. I was hoping for more facts, supported by statistics, and studies, rather it was if the author was trying to show her colleagues that her ideas were valid. They may be, I am not in any position to argue, but I was hoping for more information on the liver itself, and the possible disorders. I found only one paragraph with my condition discussed.
3-0 out of 5 stars Not good for people with digestive troubles!
Unless your diet is presently terrible, this book probably won't help you if you have candida, celiac disease, crohn's, ulcerative colitis, IBD, or IBS. Cabot limits meats and encourages non-gluten grains. Those of us with many kinds of digestive disorders cannot digest starches and disacharides (double sugars). I followed the Liver Cleansing Diet strictly for three weeks, but the inclusion of grains, sweet potatoes, corn, and soy made my symptoms worse than they had been before I started her diet. My bloating became so bad on this diet that I looked six months pregnant and getting worse. I eliminated soy and corn but to no avail. I then switched to Elaine Gottshall's Carbohydrate Specific Diet (Breaking the Vicious Cycle) and started feeling better within two days. My belly is board flat now, my skin looks better, my mood is good, and digestion feels so much better - after only one week! I wish I had found Gottshall years ago.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Bible for Weight Loss Surgery Patients
This book is amazing. If you have had recent weight loss surgery or if you are thinking about having it, you must read this book.Paula outlines everything you could ever imagine and answers the questions that we all have about weight loss surgery. After reading this book there is no doubt in my mind that I am going to have the weight loss surgery. In the book Paula gave me the courage to want a better and new life for myself.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book was a life saver for me
Being aware that my surgery would be life altering, I was nervous about how to proceed with the rest of my life post-operation. Paula Peck's book was written with such care, concern and intelligence that upon turning the final page I realized my anxiety had completely left me and that I literally held a blue-print for success in my hands. Thank goodness for Paula's sensitivity, charm and wit. This is a honest guide to living and coping after weight-loss surgery - and who knew? A funny one too! Kudos for this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A pre-operation necessity.
I could not put Exodus from Obesity down.I highlighted it and even felt compelled to email Paula Peck, the author.

5-0 out of 5 stars You've got to read this book!
I received this book as a gift. There are quite a few books on this subject on the market and this one is the best. I too could not put it down and finished it in 3 days. It's a huge book, a great resource that is well researched and written.. I have a few friends who've purchased this book and really loved it too. I can highly recommend this book.
2-0 out of 5 stars No comfort food recipes
I was very disappointed that this cookbook didn't have more comfort food recipes. It used ingredients that you wouldn't normally have on hand.I was looking for recipes for meatloaf, mac & cheese.I won't buy another cookbook that I can't review first.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pleasantly surprised
As someone who doesn't like to spend hours in the kitchen...and who is also a new Weight Watchers member...I can say that this is of great benefit to me.The recipes that I've tried have been quick and non-complicated with good flavor. The ingredients are all easily obtained at your local stores...no hunting for "exotic" spices or anything.I'm glad I got it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars This book drove me to drink.
Very informative. This was the book I needed to give me the confidence to begin. I was curious about the subject and wanted to begin a program of diet and detoxicfication; however, I questioned the sanity of the venture.Steve Meyerowitz does a terrific job of dispelling any fears and he makes sense of the practice of fasting safely. A very complete study on the subject including a nice aray of receipes.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Guide for Everyone to Detox and Become Healthy
I found this book to be a great tool for all methods of detoxing concerning liquids. The author explains the nutrition and healing methods of different juices concisely and without the "bull" in most books.I read through this book in an afternoon - I literally could not put it down. The author covers water, fruit juice, vegetable juice, and liquid detoxing.
5-0 out of 5 stars Mr. Meyerwitz knows his stuff
Don't listen to the reviewers who gave this book low stars and complained that it was "too simple" or "cultish" or "anti-religious" or "too religious". They obviously didn't understand, apply, or perhaps even read through the information.

5-0 out of 5 stars LISTEN!!! for anyone who read the reviews about Dr. Young's lack of cred
This book is full of amazing health advice that, for the most part you already knew (you just didn't know exactly why it was healthy). Yes this diet, if followed word for word is difficult. WHO SAYS YOU HAVE TO FOLLOW ANYTHING WORD FOR WORD. Fundamentalist religious people don't even follow their book of choice word for word. Take what works for you and make it work for you. Super hydration, and green supplements are essential for our malnutritioned society. Eat more green vegetables. Eat higher water rich foods. Lower your intake of refined sugars (and fruit juice that averages 50 grams of sugar per serving!). Are these pieces of advice that need credential backing. Listen, If you asked ten ivy-league educated doctors their opinion on any given health issue, you would get ten different answer, maybe more depending on what drug company they are more closely linked to. BE LOGICAL. The majority of this book is irrefutable. The rest, as with any new theory you'll have to exercise faith. Which, by the way is what you're constantly doing with western medicine.

5-0 out of 5 stars change your life
With the changes today in how we view our health, this book is great. The need to understand how we can control our own health is without so many drugs and is within these pages.

5-0 out of 5 stars a PH Miracle for life
I have been following this program for 2 1/2 years. I was dealing with numerous health challenges, some quite serious. I started this, quit drinking coffee, soda, eating meat and have never looked back. My extreme acidreflux was gone in a matter of days. I lost 28 pound in just under 3 months, my rosacea I have suffered with for 5+ years is completely gone. I have strangers tell me how beautiful my skin looks and I no longer have flare ups, I get facials, peels and go in the sun! My liver and digestive system are working again! This program may sound complicated, but it is not. It is the simplicity of it that makes it work. And puts all the responsibility in your hands for your health. I have fired my Doctor!

The book is organized nicely into all the different food categories so that I can quickly find what I am looking for.

Editorial Review

"We have been trying to feed our hurting, longing hearts with physical food," writes Gwen Shamblin, registered dietician and founder of the Weigh Down program, which emphasizes "God's power--not 'will power.'" This book offers instruction on how to eat only when physically hungry, how to "nourish the soul with a relationship with God," and how not to confuse different hunger urges. The diet plan teaches you not to overeat by letting you eat exactly what you want, but much less of it. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Appetite control book
This book is all about controlling your appetite. Stop eating when you are full. This book is written from a Christian perspective with also recommends prayer and diet as part of your spriritual life. The author recommends eating only the best part of your meal and leave what you do not want on your plate. The most important principle of all this book teaches is STOP EATING WHEN YOU ARE FULL. This one principle alone boils down what has caused our obesity epedemic in this country, not knowing what it feels like to be full. The author teaches you what hunger feels like and how to use it to guide you eating. This is a huge part of the weight loss puzzle, I would also recommend the following that taught me how to lose 60 pounds and keep it off:
1-0 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware -- Wolf in Sheep's Clothing
If it were possible to give an author zero stars, I would have. This book is seriously flawed for two reasons:
1-0 out of 5 stars BEWARE
I was doing the new change series and felt something wasn't right.Found out on the internet it's a cult all the way. This book is the mildest of all her teachings.Let me tell you if you don't do it her way you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. It's all so subtle when you sit there week after week and watch the dvd's it's all about her and her son and so subtle Remnant Fellowship the only called out ones. You'd better get in the arch or you are not the true followers of the Lord.Well Gwen we are saved by Grace through faith,it's a gift from God,not of works so no one can boast! That's all she does is boast how sinless or tries to be sinless she is and her perfect Remnant.I have been talking to several people that she has judge and judged hard and it makes me sick! Just look up on the internet type in Gwen Shamblin and you will judge for yourself what this Weighdown teaching is all about.Judge not least you be judge and why do you look at the speak in your brothers eye when all the time you have a log in your own eye?I never heard anything about God's Grace it's all twisted scripture. There's fruit all right in these peoples lives well other cults have fruit too! 5-0 out of 5 stars THE Diet!
Dr. Gallands book was recommended to me by a friend and I decided to give it a try because I was at my wits end with all the diets out there.I had tried Weight Watchers, South Beach...etc, and always lost a few pounds but gained them back and then some. After following Dr. Gallands diet for 10 days, I had lost 11 pounds. My skin actually felt smoother and my energy levels went sky high!2 months later I am down 20 pounds and have no intention of stopping. The recipes are easy, the foods are delicious and my cravings for refined sugar and flour are completely gone. I now look forward to snacking on fresh fruits and vegetables and I can even go out to restaurants and choose healthy, delicious foods.I don't look at it as a diet anymore, I look at it as a lifestyle change. This will be the last diet book you will ever buy.Trust me, If I could do it, anyone can!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Fat Resistance Diet by Leo Galland, M.D.
The Fat Resistance Diet by Leo Galland, M.D. explains how important curing inflammation is to our over all health and how to do it with food, the side effect of this type of diet is weight loss. The book has daily meal plans, recipes, including a shopping list and lists of healthy food. The Fat Resistance Diet has exercises for stress reduction and to strengthen the torso for flexibility, which improves posture. Leo Galland, M.D. gives the reader the newest medical information and a step-by-step plans on how to become healthier. I highly recommend this book.

3-0 out of 5 stars Fat Resistance Diet
While the book was easy to read, preparing the food is quite time consuming if cooking is not something you really enjoy.Convenience foods aren't anywhere on this diet.Everything is fresh and requires lots of chopping. For the most part, my husband and I like the foods. However, during the first two weeks of the diet I felt that I was constantly Shopping for products, Preparing food, Eating food, or Thinking about preparing the food!!! It was stressful! And after all of that work I only lost two pounds in the first two weeks. The author says you will loose six to ten pounds in the first two weeks.I've kept up the diet (four weeks now) and it has gotten easier to prepare the foods.I have lost a total of four pounds now.The biggest change for me is cooking breakfast. In the past I typically ate cold cereal and a piece of fruit. This diet requires that one set aside time to prepare omelets and frittatas for the morning meal. While time consuming (if you are in a rush in the mornings) these breakfasts taste very good!In these four weeks I've tried some new foods. I am eating foods that are good for my health.Just wish I had lost more weight by now.I only wanted to loose 10 pounds. I intend to continue this diet. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Nutrition Information I Have Read
This is a no-nonsense, cut-to-the-chase book which gives you the information you need to eat sensibly. In a world of empty diet promises that offer weight loss that cannot be maintained, this book gives readers a formula for life. What a relief to read diet/nutrition information that does not come with a sales pitch for products that cannot offer a long-term solution.Thank you, Dr. Ann.

4-0 out of 5 stars good journal for food and exercise
This book is truly a gift to share with others. Just like my new beverage of choice that replaced my morning brew. Its called s oyfee and taste so wonderful with no caffeine or acids. Organic and made from soya! Bye bye acid stomach and hello healthy tummy! Google it under "acid free coffee"

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellant book
Dr. Ann has written a book that explains in easy to read text about ways to improve your health. I am following her suggestions and find that I can still eat many foods that I enjoy. I think this would be especially good for overweight children so they may have a healthier adult life. R.L. Ward,M.D.(South Carolina) ... Read more

You won't feel like a dummy after reading this book on Celeac Disease, you will feel well informed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Living Gluten-Free for Dummies
Living Gluten-Free for Dummies is a foundation book which imparts important information with humor...something a Celiac needs.
5-0 out of 5 stars Good Reading
It has been 28 years since I was diagnosed with Celiac.Back then there was little information and fewer products available for living gluten-free.Reading this book would have been very helpful to me then, and I may have been spared much of the problems I encountered along the way.Even the Dr. who determined my disease made the error of telling me that after the villi had repaired themselves, I should try gluten again!

5-0 out of 5 stars Emerge Renewed
Greens consumed in this form are easy to take in and make the cravings go away, the mood swings go away, the hair thick, and the skin smooth and firm. The greens also pump you with energy, and amazingly cause weight loss, even when you consume as many calories as before.I cannot sit still because of my renewed vitality, and my best friend who also drinks the green stuff just did her mountain bike trail ride in record time.Victoria just might solve the healthcare crisis--I am serious. I am a happy primate who is finally consuming my native diet-- and I salute Victoria Boutenko for her free thinking and this great contribution to human wellness.
5-0 out of 5 stars Go Green Now
This book inspired me to go green! I knew it would be good; I actually postponed the publication of my own raw food book 6 months while waiting for this one to come out so I could include the study in my book. It was worth the wait.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book!
I really enjoyed reading "Green for Life." I am a raw vegan. But I found that anyone, whether they are raw or not, would get some great information out of this book. She does a great job of explaining 1)why greens are so important, 2) how to incorporate more greens into anyone's diet, and 3) why green smoothies are an optimal way to get more greens into the diet. Easy read with great information for anyone! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Where did this guy get his research?
He writes that doing too much cardio causes hormonal imbalances and will cause you to burn muscle instead of fat. Where is the research to back this up? I have never heard this before. I've heard the opposite ~ that cardio helps regulate hormones and increases endorphins. I'm sure you would start burning muscle after say, a few hours of cardio, but how many people do you know that do hours upon hours of cardio daily?
4-0 out of 5 stars The good, the bad, and the ugly.
This book is probably popular because it is affiliated with the Dr. Phil show. I found the book to be nothing special as its premise is nothing new- you can change your metabolism so your body is burning the optimum amount of fat 24 hours a day. Furthermore, science and weight loss experts agree that, short of having a thyroid disorder, you aren't going to be able to change your metabolism significantly enough with diet and exercise to see the weight suddenly fly off.
4-0 out of 5 stars Once you get past the fluff, a worthwhile program
I've never been a big fan of Dr. Phil, so at first glance this book didn't appeal to me.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best education in Type 2 Diabetes
When I need to learn about a topic I go to the library. My research leads me to read many books on the subject. There are usually some duds or outdated books. This book is a standout! The very best of the dozen or so books I have read on Diabetes. I learned more in this book than all the other combined. The author writes from experience and has many ideas on ways to get the best blood sugar control. The other books can stay on the shelf. This is one that I need to buy and own so I can refer back to it again and again. I recommend that anyone with Type 2 diabetes to read this book if you are serious about getting better blood sugar control! Her approach is sypathetic too. It's good to get this information from someone who knows from the inside what you are thinking and feeling. Two chapters standout in my mind. One is about burnout; you have to face diabetes everyday, it doesn't go on vacation. The other is about going to social events and having trouble finding something acceptable to eat. I would think this would be a very good book for diabetes counslors to give to their new patients when first learning of diagnosis of diabetes.
4-0 out of 5 stars Misses the boat on Depression
I was incredibly impressed with this bookuntil I got to the bit on depression. As one of my clients said, this woman has never been depressed. There are books dating back to the 30s on how eating sugar significantly affects mood in some people. Many clients seem to be able to guess their own blood sugar ratings based on their depressed mood and lack of motivation. I was surprised that Mendosa's wonderful website doesn't list the word depression.People who have significant depression associated with variations in blood sugar are severly underserved by Becker's book. While there are many studies that claim you are at no greater risk for diabetes after a diagnosis (which is probably true) it seems to me that what actually occurs is that people are more likely to experience significant clinical depression related to diabetes BEFORE it is diagnosed. Then when blood sugar is controlled they actually have less depression. How unusual and fortunate for Becker and Mendosa that they are so blessed to be depression free. I hope it doesn't make people who do have depression associated with diabetes and variations in blood sugar feel crazy.
