5-0 out of 5 stars Reassurance deliverd with compassion
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, as well as its sequel, Cold Noses Part II. I had just lostmy darling little dog, and Gary's book filled a need in a loving and knowledgeable way. He sticks to Scripture in making his case for the eternal existence of animals, so we know that his arguments are NOT based on thin air but on the user's manual for life, the Bible. However, also in sharing much of himself and his experiences, as well as interjecting some gentle humor along the way, he leaves the reader comforted and secure in the knowledge that he or she will see the beloved dog or cat (or bird or whatever!) again someday. I highly recommend this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars How do we get over our loss??
I lost my beloved, Smokey, while I was ill myself. While I was trying to recoup, Smokey had been getting increasingly feebler. It had been suggested by family that it might be time to "put her to sleep"...But, "NO" was always my answer. How could I?? She was my BEST friend for 16 years. She knew me inside and out and even saved my life. But, I also knew in my heart that it was best as her quality of life definitely declined. So, I did...and, I thought I would never recover.I was inconsolable.I had searched on the internet for something I could read or somebody I could talk to about my loss.Nobody understood, or so I felt, that Smokey's loss was worse than a family member's loss. Then, I came across Gary Kurz's website. It truly was a Godsend that I found him.Gary and I have conversed via e-mail several times. And, each time I began to feel better. My guilt was beginning to diminish. My sadness became lighter.Gary helped me survive...because I was thinking that I just couldn't survive without my Smokey. God has a plan for all of us whether we are animal or humans... and, I believe that Smokey will be waiting for me when it's my time to leave this planet. And, she will be young and sassy and happy her friend has come home too. Thank you, Gary

2-0 out of 5 stars There are better books about animals and the Bible out there
I purchased this book hoping to find examples and interpretations from the Bible providing a positive case on us seeing our beloved pets in heaven. I do think that the author clearly cares about animals and feels they will go to heaven, but many times he tended to get off topic. I agree with 'The Pawsitive Pet Psychic "animal communicator"' about how he apologized too much. He takes three paragraphs explaining how what he is about to say is his opinion and that we don't have to agree with it. I don't see why he needs to do that in his own book. I also felt that he spent way too much time talking about how animals listen and communicate with us. That's fine and all but I thought I was reading a book about if animals go to heaven, not how good a dogs scent of smell is or how to choose healthy pet. I'll buy a book on animal care if I want to know that. All in all I felt a little misslead by the title and assumed it would be primarily about animals in heaven. I was wrong, though, as that didn't seem to be the primary subject. Finally, I don't see how a story about a cat nearly dying from a scorpion sting or a dog almost drowning from a goose is a "humerous" story. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST read
I don't know why there aren't hundreds of reviews on this book, because it's absolutely magic. If you're looking for comfort and evidence, buy it! I am grateful Elizabeth shared her insights with us, readers. As I am in the learning process of becoming an animal communicator myself, I am doing research in reading as much as I can. But first of all I am a grieving person who's animal friend recently died and I am besides myself with grief over this loss. Elizabeth shares her knowledge that all is as it's supposed to be. She enlights, she has such insight, and yet, as a scientifically educated woman, she does not take things for granted. The care-humans (as she calls them) of the pets, deceased or alive, acknowledge her words over and over again. Facts. I read this book of 143 page's in one day, up to late at night. Just couldn't stop. It was one of the most beautiful gifts I received. So just buy it :-)
5-0 out of 5 stars would you like to see how an animal views death?read this book
Judging from the response to this book, not many people buy this book, but a lot of people see the site. That said, I found this book to be quite intriguing.Like "1smileycat", I had to recently put down my favorite pet (in my case, my beloved dog of 10 years).I actually found out about this book from looking at 1smileycat's profile (so thanks :) )and bought it.Severino's book is a nice read and offers an interesting view of dying, death, and euthanasia- all, as the title suggests, told from an animal's point of view.A good read and definite recommendation for anyone grieving the loss of a loved pet.

5-0 out of 5 stars Be open minded while reading this book.
I truely enjoyed "The Animals' Viewpoint on Dying, Death, and Euthanasia" by Elizabeth Severino, D.D., D.R.S, animal communicator.

Thank you Gary for this well written, insightful book.I was heartbroken at the loss of my kitty of 16 years. This book was able to comfort me during the time of sadness. While I'm not over the loss, I was able to stop agonizing over the decision to put my loving cat to sleep after so many years of shared love.

5-0 out of 5 stars Stuparyk's writing lifted my broken spirit like the wings of an angel...
For anyone who has loved and lost a beloved pet, I highly recommend "When Only the Love Remains" by Emily Margaret Stuparyk. Her words will heal a broken heart and connect your soul eternally with your pet's soul. She understands the pain of pet loss because she has experienced it. I was devastated at the loss of my bunny, a Dwarf girl named Cinderella Rubi, who lived for only two years. Emily's writing lifted my broken spirit like the wings of an angel and reflect hope and belief in the afterlife. I have learned that although my beloved Cinderella is with her Creator now, she left me a legacy of love that lives on as my inheritance. This love will continue to grow for I will always remember my precious rabbit friend. I treasure this book and also you, Emily.

4-0 out of 5 stars Moving Account of One Woman's Loss Helps Us All
My beloved kitty companion of nine years died suddenly on September 16, 2004 - as I write this, just three days ago. The totally unexpected loss of Sugarpuss is a terrible shock. Stuparyk's book was recommended to me that morning and I immediately ordered it on one day delivery from amazon (and I might add it arrived on the 17th as promised - thank you, amazon). I read most of it in one sitting, crying as in my mind I put my kitty in the place of Stuparyk's beloved rabbit, Poochie, who also died on September 16th several years ago. The poems are moving, especially the final one, which is also used for the title of the book. I very much identify with the poem where the author wishes for one more chance to hold her bunny alive again, which is what I feel about my Sugarpuss. I know I will go to this book again over the next several weeks. I would particularly recommend this book of poems for someone who feels grief but has problems expressing it, or who feels "funny" being so emotional over the loss of a companion animal.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best book on pet loss
The author could have been writing about my own pet.Her sincere, honest portrayal of her feelings touched me so much that I was able to write down my own feelings on paper about a much loved and missed pet.It was like she knew me and my pet.I could feel her pain of her loss--it matched mine. Her book gave me so many things to think about. I recommend this book highly and plan to share it with others who need help healing with the loss of a pet. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful animal story
This is the book to buy. What a wonderful book to write about a dog that has been through several struggles and survived.I would read all of her books that she writes.Great reviews....

5-0 out of 5 stars The Miracle that Keeps on Giving
This was a great story about a dog who survived an animal shelter gas chamber and lived to tell about it with the help of Randy Grim. No dog has ever survived the gas chamber in St. Louis, but Quentin did - named after the infamous Sam Quentin.Quentin was one of the millions given up by his guardians, more like sentenced to death by his guardians. If it weren't for Randy Grim's incredible work with the St. Louis Stray Rescue, Quentin would've survived the chamber only to put back in.But that wasn't the case.Randy was called and claimed Quentin, who became a nationwide spokes-dog championing no-kill shelters. Thanks to Randy and Quentin, St. Louis replaced the gas chamber (where animals truly suffered at the end of their lives) in their animal shelters with HUMANE euthanasia.Hopefully some day it will be a no-kill shelter, along with every animal shelter in this country.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great story - book needs work

My best friend died 1.5 years ago and I still miss her terribly - she was my 15 year old cat. This book was very useful to me during my time of intense mourning. While I know that her loss was a significant and horrible event in my life, recognition of the death of animal companions is not common in our society. This book helped me to see that I was not alone in my grief and that it was okay and normal to feel such grief.I actually purchased several books on this topic and found this one to be the best.

5-0 out of 5 stars Some help & understanding through difficult loss
After my best friend of 12 1/2 years Skipper passed away in early 2005, I was a wreck and needed some grounding. This book offered empathy for the loss of my dog & helped me understand the feelings I had at the time. This book won't erase the pain, but it offers objectivity...God Bless all of man's best friends.

1-0 out of 5 stars The Soul Of Your Pet
I recently lost my Beloved Blue Tick, Chester.I bought this book and several others on loss of a pet. I did not find any comfort or meaning to this book. In fact, it was a waste of money. It is print after print of animal ghost stories. Very disappointed.
3-0 out of 5 stars Good content, poorly edited (sorry)
I applaud the author for collecting stories and publishing this work.He has broken some new ground, and I hope that more books on this topic emerge. If the author should pursue further research and publish more (and I hope he does), he should employ a good editor to proof the manuscript for semantic clarity.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Book I've Ever Read
I can't really find the words to describe this book. It's not only well researched, well organized, and well written, but it's also an incredible reading experience. I felt that I was traveling on the author's journey right along with her, and I truly didn't want the journey to end. I usually skip around different books, skimming them for interesting facts, and dropping them if I become bored or disinterested. I can honestly say that this is the first book I've ever read that captivated me right from the very first sentence and kept me turning the pages right to the end. It opened not only my mind, but also my heart and soul. I was a hardened skeptic and expected to find a lot of information that I could dispute. However, by the time I reached the end, in light of all the profound and varied evidence presented throughout the book, I had become a believer. I'm now ordering a copy for a friend, as I don't want to relinquish mine! This is one of those books that you never forget, and once you've read them, your life is never the same. Highly recommended!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Beautiful Book That Heals The Heart
I hope this book makes it to the bestseller list, because that's where it belongs. The author is a thorough researcher, a gifted writer, and most importantly, a truly compassionate person who cares about others. While reading the book, I felt as if she was right there with me, holding my hand, helping me through the turmoil of grief over the loss of my best friend in the whole world. If there are any saints living in the world today, she is definitely one of them. I don't know how I would have gotten through the loss of my beloved Angel without this book. I had never even heard of it, but thankfully, it was given to me as a gift, and now I have the honor of giving it to another dear friend who is dealing with loss. Everyone who loves animals (and even those who think they don't) would benefit immensely from reading this book.

In addition to lots of historical information, it provides plenty of food for thought for anybody planning an outdoor trip. There are lots of lessons to be learned from the mistakes of others.

4-0 out of 5 stars Left me wanting to know more
If you are interested in the subject matter, it would be hard not to enjoy this book. I was amazed at the number of bodies that had to be left in the parks because they couldn't be retreived for one reason or another. I was also surprised to learn how many planes had crashed onto the lands or into the mountains of national parks. There are also the things you would expect, such as falls from mountain climbing and people who get lost while hiking. It was sad to read about the rangers who risked their lives and became heroes to save others, only to read about some of them succumbing to the dangers of the park themselves later on in the book. Many of the stories made me wish there was additional information, because I wanted to know more about what happened to these people. Overall a very engrossing book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Compelling Gathering of Varied Narratives
As the NPS's Chief National Emergency Services Coordinator the author spent many years in the search and rescue business. In the course of his career he had access to the original records and was able to select most dramatic and cautionary stories. Each covers at most a few pages but the reader will want to keep reading. Very hard to put down and a substantial amount of research and good writing. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This book confirmed what I had felt in my heart for years.
Ever since I was a small child, I visualized animals in heaven. After all, God did make them first, my little girl mind rationalized. As I got older and had many animals come and go in my life, I needed conformation that my belief was in fact true.I could not imagine a perfefct place that DID NOT include my beloved pets who had passed on.Then on a recent Sunday morning, I was watching a pastor give a sermon on television. He made the mistake of telling his congregation and his television audience that animals do not survive beyond death; that only humans occupy heaven with our Lord.I began a search. The Bible talks little about the direct question: Are His animals to live forever? But after all, the bible was written for human salvation. The animals cannot sin and don't need to be saved. They already are perfect in God's eyes.Jesus has said that He was going to prepare a place for us - his children - and a place for me would not be complete unless all my wonderful and beloved animal children are there with me.And then I found Steve Wohlberg's book! This book has confirmed to me what I have known since a child.Animals do, of course, go to heaven.Steve has given biblical references in this book and explained in a way that only a man of the clergy can do in pointing out God's love for and eternal existence of animals. This is a wonderful book and should be included in bible school curriculums.Every person who has ever loved an animal needs to read this book. And those who preach that animals "die and go into the ground forever" and wrong, wrong, wrong.I wrote and told that televison pastor so and used Steve's book as a reference. He has since recanted his views.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good book, but a lot of room for improvement
What I liked about this book:
1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
This book does have some nice thoughts in it but there is only a fraction of the book that actually deals with scripture. Like other similar books it's mostly opinion, and opinion which is not even encouraging! He says we don't know for sure that our pets are in heaven and that we must come to our own conclusion! He stresses so much about how people are so much more important than animals to God and that Jesus died only for humans not animals!(Rom 5:8)

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Anthology
There comes a time in every dog owner's life when you look down at the furball by your feet and come to the realization that this is no longer just your pet; this is your friend. Dogs surpass human beings in just about everything: from sense of smell to hearing, from loyalty to love. A dog's capacity to love is something profound; they want nothing more than to be accepted, to please you and to be loved in return. "Angel Pawprints" showcases some beautiful poems about this love which dogs have for centuries offered and received. Laurel E. Hunt edited some great pieces, including works by such famous poets as Rudyard Kipling and William Wordsworth. (My personal favorite is "So Long, Pal" by Ethel Blumann.)
5-0 out of 5 stars i love this book
i have just bought a second copy to send to a friend who needs to say farewell to her beloved jack russell for awhile. the poems are beautiful...i especially love "the house dog's grave", which just might be my favorite poem of all time.5-0 out of 5 stars What a Wonderful Book
I know Dr. Villalobos from working at the animal clinic in Hermosa Beach, CA, and she does a wonderful job of capturing the bond between pets and their owners in this book. She is such a hardworker and her love for animals is apparent through her work in the oncology field. ... Read more

This book is one that has to be read just to see what people go through when they lose a pet.I never thought I would be the one that was so attached to a pet.But I did for 13 years. Then when it was time.I made sure everything was is place for a pet funeral and made a great headstone for him.He was a loyal friend and I miss him dearly.I know that there are Angels Gates in heaven.

5-0 out of 5 stars Getting Lucky is a 5 star read!
Getting Lucky is for all of us who share our hearts and lives with our animals. This book will make you laugh and cry, sometimes both at once.Beautifully written, with humor, love and sadness that just pulls at your heart. You won't be able to put it down. Angel's Gate is truly a place where "Angels" go to be loved and let go. I dedicate this review to my own angel, Jakob M. who passed on only 1 year ago. I'm grateful that places like Angel's Gate exist and that there are people out there who know just how special these creatures are.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love, Love, Love IT!
This book is awesome! I recently lost my beloved Black Lab, Molson, who was 11 years old. I felt like I was there with all the pets in this book. I wish I lived near Angel's Gate... I would be there to volunteer in a minute! How wonderful these people are to take on such a heartfelt approach to helping these precious animals. I found myself smiling from ear to ear throughout the whole story! A must for all animal lovers to read! ... Read more
