5-0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful After Losing A Loved One
I found this book very helpful after losing a loved one.I particularly liked the format of this book. The authors give excellent ideas and suggestions as well as inspiring meditations.I highly recommend "The Empty Chair" to anyone who has experienced a death of someone close to them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Help for anyone who has had a loved one die.
What a great book!In tackling a sometimes difficult topic, the authors did a splendid job in addressing holidays and other occasions and how to handle them after losing a loved one. I have enjoyed this book so much that I've recommended it to several friends.

1-0 out of 5 stars The book is very misleading!
First of all, this book has handling grief on holidays and special occasions right in the title but it barely touches on that!!!! I have seen other books do a much better job helping survivors honor their loved one, acknowledge their grief, etc than this one does. If you are looking for help on how to handle the holidays, this one will not give you much help.

5-0 out of 5 stars Moving story of what makes life so worthwhile!
Heard THE WHEEL OF LIFE by Dr. Elisabeth Kubler-Ross, the author
1-0 out of 5 stars Where is my item ?
I never received my product. I only purchased this product as it was of very sentimental value to my mother, however I was bitterly dissapointed to find the product was lost in transit. I would love to say amazon made every effort to find my product, I personally could not believe this to be true. I do appreciate the jesture of a full refund, but I can honestly say I feel totally dishartened by the whole ordeal. I only purchased from amazon as I knew the item was difficult to locate but to pay almost 13 dollars for it to be lost is in my opinion both unacceptable and extremly unsatisfactory. I shall not purchase from amazonm in the future.
5-0 out of 5 stars An honest Memoir
Those who grouse & are dismayed at the second half of the book perhaps have not traveled far enough on their own spiritual journeys yet to understand. I found the book, like all her works, thoughtful, insightful & honest. Having worked in hospice nearly 30 yrs, in part due to Dr. Kubler-Ross, I can honestly say that in hospice you see many things that are beyond the scope of everyday life. The more I see of human Spirituality in hospice paitents & their families the less judgmental I tend to be. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars a remarkable exploration of grief and depression
Terry Wise tells the story of her husband's illness and her grief and downward spiral into depression following his death through the lens of therapy. She shares not only her innermost fears but her exploration of them in an honest and insightful manner. Working through grief is exactly that-work- and Terry shows us just how hard this work can be. Terry's courageous story includes her therapist, whose tenacity permitted Terry to face and work toward conquering her demons. Waking Up is a glorious account of the therapeutic process and the determination of the human spirit to survive.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow.
This was a *profound* book written with brutal honesty.Ms. Wise doesn't just captivate you from the first page... she holds you by the gut and pulls you into her life (and death) experience. There is nothing flowery about this book.It takes you right into the heart of her grief and pain... and more, it shows vividly how this downward spiral is such a slippery slope.

1-0 out of 5 stars The Soul Of Your Pet
I recently lost my Beloved Blue Tick, Chester.I bought this book and several others on loss of a pet. I did not find any comfort or meaning to this book. In fact, it was a waste of money. It is print after print of animal ghost stories. Very disappointed.
3-0 out of 5 stars Good content, poorly edited (sorry)
I applaud the author for collecting stories and publishing this work.He has broken some new ground, and I hope that more books on this topic emerge. If the author should pursue further research and publish more (and I hope he does), he should employ a good editor to proof the manuscript for semantic clarity.
5-0 out of 5 stars This book made my loss easier to accept
This book helped to ease my broken heart. For anyone that has lost their beloved pet,The Soul Of Your Pet is a treasure. It made my heart smile again instead of crying myself to sleep at night. I recently passed it on to friend that just recently lost her puppy baby. She commented on the strength it has given her to move forward as well. ... Read more

Helpful but general - to simplistic. I thought No Time to Say Goodbye was much better written. Maybe because the author lived through this hell herself.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you are alone -- HE IS THERE
I love this book. I've never wanted to go to a Christian counselor but God blessed me with Dr. David Cox ( www.drdavidcox.com).This book is not only good for the survivor but also for those who want to survive.I read the book out of curiosity more than anything and discovered the love and pain that people left from suicide go through. It has shown me father god's love with such a passion (http://www.shilohplace.org and http://www.fathersloveletter.com). In his recommendations he also has provided me with a book called Father Hunger (http://www.mcgeepublishing.com) for those who yearn to know who the Father is that really cares. The one who won't leave you alone, the One who has always been there and watched over you and has never let you go.Wait until you discover that God is the one who never leaves you, who is always with you and who gives you the hope -- especially when you feel there is none.Don't be alone - because you're not.Your eyes will open when you see that you are not alone -- God is always there - always has been and always will be.

5-0 out of 5 stars Aftershock: Help, Hope and Healing in the Wake of Suicide
This is an incredibly helpful book for which, sadly, there long has been a tremendous need. How I wish it had been available thirty or forty years ago. Silence too often follows suicide, which only delays and compounds the challenges of grieving such a loss. The authors rightly stress how vital it is that survivors talk about what has happened. This book is a powerful aid and encouragement in doing so. The earthquake metaphor works beautifully throughout; surely one's landscape is forever changed after a suicide, and in its aftermath it takes a long time for survivors to feel safe.Of the myriad after effects of suicide - including survivor guilt, fear and societal suspicion - all are eloquently articulated. The book's contents are broken up into manageable bites for readers who may be able to focus for short periods. The section on how to talk to children about suicide (and the importance of honesty) was particularly moving and very clear and helpful. Several personal stories are interspersed throughout the text and the variety of voices and perspectives enriches what is already an invaluable book. This is the book I will put into the hands of both survivors and those who want to offer the sort of help that is most needed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Much needed book for anyone who counsels others!
Anyone who counsels others should have this book in their library before it's needed. Dr. Cox knows first hand what it's like to be left behind after a family member completes suicide. When he was only nine-years-old, his father killed himself, leaving a confused, angry little boy. Other stories illustrate the book as he and Ms. Arrington help readers learn the signs that a loved one may be contemplating suicide, with a chapter dedicated to exploring teen depression and suicide. They compassionately guide readers and give them hope for rebuilding their lives when a loved one does indeed commit suicide. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Serious Study As To How Hamas Is Able To Survive
Matthew Levitt , Senior Fellow and Director of Terrorism Studies at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy and who has served since 2005 as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Intelligence and Analysis at the U.S. Department of Treasury has placed the hot-button issue of Hamas into perspective with his exhaustive exposé Hamas: Politics, Charity, and Terrorism In the Service of Jihad.
5-0 out of 5 stars Hamas : Politics, Charity, and Terrorism in the Service of Jihad
Hamas's election victory shocked the West."I don't see how you can be a partner for peace if you advocate the destruction of a country as part of your platform," President Bush said at a January 26 news conference after the results were announced. Subsequently,Washington cut off aid money to the new Hamas-dominated government, yet the White House's resolve was not matched elsewhere. Two weeks after the election, Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party feted Hamas political leader Khalid Mishaal, a wanted terrorist. And earlier this month the Swedish government broke European consensus to issue a visa for a Hamas minister to attend a conference calling for the Jewish state's destruction. Moscow has even suggested supplying arms to Hamas.

5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful, helpful story for all ages
A family friend gave me this book over 10 years ago when my father suddenly passed away. While no book could possibly heal the pain or close the void that my father's death left in my life, I was able to find some comfort in this timeless story. Ten years later, I still pull it out once in awhile, and it makes me smile. I have given copies to many friends over the years who have lost loved ones. I hope it can bring comfort to you or your loved ones.

5-0 out of 5 stars Children confronting the death of a parent or grandparent
25 years ago when my children were 4 and 6 years old, I bought this book when their father passed away.On May 21st, my youngest brother, an L.A. city firefighter took his own life, leaving a 7 year old son and a 10 year old daughter.I remembered the innocence of this book in relation to death and decided to purchase it for my niece and nephew. The older child read it to her younger sibling.Since the impact of the death of their father was something only the two of them could share, this private time was crucial to them. The book is excellent, ordering it was easy, and the shipping was more than satisfactory.Thank you! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Book I've Ever Read
I can't really find the words to describe this book. It's not only well researched, well organized, and well written, but it's also an incredible reading experience. I felt that I was traveling on the author's journey right along with her, and I truly didn't want the journey to end. I usually skip around different books, skimming them for interesting facts, and dropping them if I become bored or disinterested. I can honestly say that this is the first book I've ever read that captivated me right from the very first sentence and kept me turning the pages right to the end. It opened not only my mind, but also my heart and soul. I was a hardened skeptic and expected to find a lot of information that I could dispute. However, by the time I reached the end, in light of all the profound and varied evidence presented throughout the book, I had become a believer. I'm now ordering a copy for a friend, as I don't want to relinquish mine! This is one of those books that you never forget, and once you've read them, your life is never the same. Highly recommended!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Beautiful Book That Heals The Heart
I hope this book makes it to the bestseller list, because that's where it belongs. The author is a thorough researcher, a gifted writer, and most importantly, a truly compassionate person who cares about others. While reading the book, I felt as if she was right there with me, holding my hand, helping me through the turmoil of grief over the loss of my best friend in the whole world. If there are any saints living in the world today, she is definitely one of them. I don't know how I would have gotten through the loss of my beloved Angel without this book. I had never even heard of it, but thankfully, it was given to me as a gift, and now I have the honor of giving it to another dear friend who is dealing with loss. Everyone who loves animals (and even those who think they don't) would benefit immensely from reading this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Review of Grief Counseling Homework Planner
Part of my career involvement is helping people deal with loss. The Grief Counseling Homework Planner is a wonderful tool to help individuals and families to deal with the grief from any kind of loss. I would recommend that it be used advisedly with someone who understands the healing process and can facilitate those who may need guidance through their grief journey. I use parts of it in my work as a hospice chaplain and with community support groups.

5-0 out of 5 stars Useful for therapists and grief counselors
I found this is a very useful and direct way to help clients suffering loss in their lives. It offers a useful way for therapists, counselors, and clients to understand and think about grief work, important information about the grief process and its many changing aspects over time, and many writing and homework exercises that clients can work on between (and in) sessions, which can also help counselors decide and structure how to best work with different clients at different stages in their grief. 5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellant Book
I wish I had bought this book after I suffered my first miscarriage.I have read several miscarriage books and this one is by far the best. Its easy to read, it touches on all the emotions you experience with a miscarriage, and I highly recommend it for anyone who has suffered a miscarriage or knows someone who has suffered a miscarriage.

5-0 out of 5 stars Peace of Mind
I wish I'd had this book the day I miscarried. It was reassuring to read about and relate to someone else's experience. I felt so alone. I plan to share this book with other women surviving a miscarriage.

5-0 out of 5 stars I thank God for allowing me to encounter this book
My son, Dylan was stillborn at seven months.I miss my sweet boy with every ounce of my being.I have read several books but none have helped me on my road to healing such as this one has.He speaks to the bereaved Christian parent like none other. This book has provided a still and calm in my life through this tumultous journey and I am thankful. I plan on buying this book for several of my friends and highly recommend it to those looking for a little peace through the death of a loved one.

4-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful comfort for those who are greiving
Shortly after I bought this book, several people I knew passed on and Zig's words and insights about comfort, peace and wisdom were a real shining light for me - helping me write and say things that brought comfortto others.5-0 out of 5 stars It's the way to heal a broken heart....
I picked up the book because my husband's father was dying, and I didn't know how to comfort him or his family.Up till that point in my life, I hadn't lost anyone close to me.Mr. Ziglar was so open with his grief andI found myself weeping at nearly every chapter! But in the end, just likeMr. Ziglar, I felt like I was basking in the most unbelievable love andgrace...and peace.I purchase this book for everyone I know who has lostsomeone close. On final note, his description of Psalm 23 has changed me. ... Read more
