Repetitious
I have two other books that echo much of the information in this book, so I found the entire book rather repetitious, and the other books I have are much better, more organized and more entertaining.

Please add selenium as discussed below
The cancer-fighting nutrient most proven to date is selenium. A daily supplement of 200 microgram of selenium, has been shown in a large placebo-controlled, double-blind clinical study -- the most prestigious type of scientific study of nutrients and drugs -- to cut the death rate from cancer in half.
Concerned Spouse
Despite its 1996 copyright this is a great resource!After reading several books on nutrition and cancer this is the one I continue to use for ongoing reference.It is not an easy read but explains thoroughly the physiology and chemistry of food components and nutrients.This is a very useful guide and far more helpful than any other resource I've read, including "Beating Cancer with Nutrition" by guru P. Lung cancer- a review
Pass' book is excellent, well-written, and comprehensive.It is one of the first books patients and family members should go to, though they should be cautioned that the book is written for a medical audience.Skip the first two chapters on mollecular biology which are far too technical, and go to some of the other chapters written in a detailed but comprehensive fashion. This book will prove exceptionally useful, but tough reading for many, so keep a medical dictionary and encylopedia nearby.

An excellent resource for lung cancer clinicians and patient
This second edition is an excellent, readable resource that makes few assumptions about the reader's familiarity with lung cancer, molecular biology, or cancer genetics. Contains many entirely new chapters as well as carefully updated material from the first edition. Geared to oncologists and researchers, but nonetheless a good foundation resource for patients and families who wish to learn a great deal about lung cancer and its management. ... Read more

A True Bible for Cancer Survival
Margie Levine's very personal and inspirational story offers hope along with pragmatic steps to empower one's self to take charge of their own medical challenge. I read this book because I have several friends who are dealing with their own struggles with cancer.After completing Margie's book, I felt it most certainly would give them a new perspective on coping and taking charge of their own situations. This is a terrific book and I highly recommend it.

A great wealth of help, hope and knowledge
When my mom was diagnosed with Lung Cancer, I didn't know enough about it.I purchased several books on lung cancer but found this one easy to read, direct and to the point. This book helped me understand when the Oncologist talked about the stage of mom's cancer and the options available.Not only did this book give me a clearer overall picture of lung cancer, it is an awesome resourcetool and assisted me in the proper questions to ask the doctor.I recommend this book to anyone who has just been diagnosed or has family or a friend who has.

Excellent comprehensive discussions of treatment options

I highly recommend this book if you are walking through difficult times.The Author takes you on a journey writing about the beginning to the end of her experience of losing her husband to a terminal illness.It is a faith builder, and shows one the strength, hope, faith and grace bestowed upon them while walking through thoes difficult times. It has truly helped me with the season I am walking through.

Answers Almost Every Conceivable Question
A great book for the layperson. It answers almost every question of the patient and his/her family. The information is clear, practical, informative and concise. You will be prepared to face the challenges, choices, insurance issues, treatment options and pain management questions that all come with lung cancer. Family support is vital and this book will give the family information that is needed to help the family be supportive of the patient.

Also useful if you live in Europe
You read a lot of books, when you have a relative with lung cancer. This book gives you an overview of the most common options you have, without the depressing statistics about lung cancer. If you fight for your health, statistics aren't that important after all. By far the best and most comprehensive book on lung cancer

Not Very Informative
My mother was recently diagnosed, and I bought this book hoping it would be an informative summary of treatment methods, statistics, and coping strategies.Unfortunately, it is not.It contains pretty much the samegeneral information that can be found on the American Cancer Society website, and I would recommend the National Cancer Institute's PDQ service formuch more comprehensive clinical information.Also, my mother's oncologistprovided several pamphlets that were just as good or better on treatmentside effects and coping strategies.As far as I can tell, this book's mainmerit is its case studies, all of which have positive outcomes.These maygive patients more hope.However, the price of the book is a little steepif that's all one gets from it.I would recommend that patients andfamilies do their own research:it's more empowering, it's free, and theinformation is better. ... Comprehensive And Covers Smokers Guilt
About 82% of lung cancer is caused by smoking. This book helps the patient and family deal with the emotional issues of knowing that in most cases this deadly disease is caused by the deliberate act of smoking. It also helps one deal with the years and years of lies put forth by cigarette manufacturers denying the deadly nature of smoking. About 15% of all smokers will die of this disease.

Excellent, Informative, and Thought Provoking
