5-0 out of 5 stars I found the book Informative and Helpful.
The dietary changes recommended, while not a cure, did help alleviate a good bit of my pain. I found the explanation of the role of essential fatty acids fascinating. It doesn't work overnight, but implementing them for a good month helped me with cramping and bloating that I continued to have after my surgery.

1-0 out of 5 stars Would you blame a cancer patient for her cancer?
Then let's not pretend that diet has anything to do with the severe pain associated with endometriosis.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very accessible and interesting!
This book is very well written and weaves an interesting dialog about the cross-over between science and politics with regard to patient health issues. I found it very useful! You don't have to be a doctor or medical professional to understand what Dr Finkel is talking about, which makes it one of the few books about health that has widespread appeal along with being very informative. Definitely buy this book if you want to learn more about an important topic and its treatment in today's society. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Straight from those who know how it feels.
I was drawn to the book when I saw the familiar yellow LIVE STRONG wristband.Upon reading, I was relieved to realize that this book is one full of hope, not despair, sadness and pain. These are the stories of real people who have had or do have real cancer. The book is invaluable because it comes from those people who know what having cancer feels like. These aren't the words of doctors or nurses or other health care professionals. These are the words from people who know. ... Editorial Review

In this moving and engrossing memoir, veteran television news producer Richard Cohen relates a life spent dealing with multiple sclerosis, first diagnosed when he was 25 years old and just getting started in the competitive world of broadcast journalism. As his career progressed, he struggled not only with the disease but the touchy question of how much of the truth about himself to share with colleagues and potential employers. Cohen spent much of his life running from the onset of the disease's symptoms from which his father and grandmother also suffered. Defiantly, he took challenging, sometimes extremely dangerous assignments in Lebanon, Poland, and on the domestic political campaign trail, even as his body deteriorated. But over the course of Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Thought provoking on disabilities and families.
Compelling read. The reality of a young man blindsided with M.S., later, at mid life, hit twice with colon cancer, was at times hard to read.I found myself literally turning away from the book, turning it over, and having to will myself to return to it.Unfortunately Mr. Cohen and his family don't have that option.I found myself inspired by Cohen's courage and angered by his unwillingness to surrender to the reality of his disease and let his anger go.However, who knows how any of us would feel given the circumstances?Maybe this is as good as it gets when a chronic illness is a part of one's life.Certainly Mr. Cohen is a brave funny man, with a wife and family to match, with an important story to tell.Highly recommend to anyone who has a chronic illness, has someone close who is suffering, or anyone who is having a pity party and wants to move on!

2-0 out of 5 stars A scary read for MS sufferers
Those of us with MS tend to stick together.Unfortunately, I would not recommend this book to sufferers of this illness.Despite his claims of optimism, the anger and bitterness of Richard Cohen are strong themes in this book.I found myself questioning whether or not I have, or ever will have, a similarly angry, defensive, and demanding effect on myself and my loved ones.
5-0 out of 5 stars The best description of the dailybattle with the ups and downs of MS.
An excellent read for someone with MS and, maybe, for many friends, relatives and medical persons who interact with folks with MS. This is one of the best descriptions I have ever read of how MS builds fortitude at a cost higher than many would ever pay. The book is bluntly honest without being brutal. It will give humans who read a new perspective on life. The book should be read by employers too. The outside of MS doesn't tell the whole story.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Read
Anyone who has ever wondered about the environmental causes of cancer will be fascinated by this book. Steingraber is a gifted writer and a solid scientist (a rare but good combination) and she weaves scientific research and personal story together in a skillful way. The gist is that damning results from initial studies on the environmental causes of cancer need further study, but when all these initial studies are brought together like this it surely seems we are our own worst enemy when it comes to these terrible illnesses.
4-0 out of 5 stars Scary.
This is a powerful and moving account that dissects, piece by piece, the system which allows cancer-causing chemical agents to be released within the United States, primarily by corporations.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Important Legacy of "Silent Spring" Continues
Because of the immense importance of the subject matter- chemical contamination of our environment, this book was written for a general audience and Ms Steingraber's writing style flows with easy to understand, but alarming expose' of the hazards of chemicals in our environment.

1-0 out of 5 stars Why I decided against this book
Background: my PSA has doubled in 6 months, but is still under 4.0.I am putting off a 2nd biopsy until I have given dietary changes a chance to kick in.2-0 out of 5 stars What is left out.
The book opens with information regarding foods to be avoided that feed prostate cancer along with a endorsement by a medical doctor. The book does not define what is "meat" which is a food that the book states should be avoided. It also avoids the categories of seafood and moderate alcohol use such as wine with dinner.I wrote the co-authors requesting a clarification of the above items.Since they refused to answer my inquiry, I consider the book just another vegetarian cookbook with a misleading or incomplete title.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hope And A Fun Approach To Food Preparation
It makes sense that a proper diet can have an impact on the prevention and treatment of prostate cancer. I have some doubt, however, about the ability of certain foods to destroy prostate cancer cells as claimed on the dust jacket. Fighting prostate cancer is a grim business and this book will help PC survivors and their loving spouses because it provides hope and a fun approach to food preparation. I am presently using the book more for its ideas and inspiration instead oftrying to precisely follow each recipe. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A most helpful book
This book was given as a gift to my ten year old niece while her mom was undergoing treatment for breast cancer.I asked her about how she liked the book and she told me that is has really helped her understand what her mom is going through and helped her understand what she (my niece) was feeling.Great choice!!

4-0 out of 5 stars A mother's cancer in a cycle of seasons
In this story, a young girl, Claire, tells the story of her mother's breast cancer in a monthly scrapbook. It starts in June, when her mother's cancer is first diagnosed. In the ensuing months, her mother experiences surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. In the final month, May, her mother is feeling better and appears to be on the road to a good recovery.
5-0 out of 5 stars A heart-warming book about a child dealing with mom's cancer

If you need to laugh and are around others who won't or don'tknow how too, then this is a refreshing book. Sometimes when familes aredealing with this disease, they are afraid to laugh. The illustrations alone make this a worthwhile buy, whether you're a gastroenterologist or just extremely interested in colonoscopies.Ever since Katie Couric's live colonoscopy on TODAY, I've been intrigued by the procedure, considering it something of an art form as well as an intrusive medical procedure. But Abraham Dachman and his team of writers make a compelling argument for the use of Virtual Colonoscopy in lieu of long tubes, nano-cameras, and liquid barium. It's a brave new world. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good general overview
My cat way diagnosed with cancer about 5 months ago.I found this book to be the most helpful in understanding her cancer (GI lymphoma) without being overly filled with jargon. It was also the best on helping me understand the treatments available (and why some weren't for my cat) but I wish it had gone into more technical detail about the various medications and what they do for chemotherapy.Unfortunately, none of the books I found provided that information.I like the fact that the book separates out discussion on dogs and cats.I would definitely recommend this book for anyone with a pet with cancer.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Most Up-To-Date book on Cancer and Pets
Hi there, this is Margaret H Bonham, the co-author of Cancer and Your Pet.Unlike some authors who have a secret agenda when it comes to treating cancer, both Deb and I wanted you to get all the information out there when it comes to cancer and your pet.
5-0 out of 5 stars Informative book for all pet owners!
"Cancer and Your Pet" is an informative, well researched book for all pet owners, whether your beloved cat or dog has cancer or not.The book describes all of the different forms of cancer a pet can get, what the symptoms are for each kind, what the treatments are, and everything you will need to know before during and after your pet has cancer.Neither of my cats has cancer, but the book provided causes for some of the cancers, so now I know to be aware that there are discussions that cigarette smoke and vaccinations may have links to causing cancer in dogs and cats."Cancer and Your Pet" tells you how to take care of your pet while he or she is sick, and gives advice about what to do should your pet pass away.

5-0 out of 5 stars Delivering Hope
Lori Hope's book addresses an issue no other book has tackled.
5-0 out of 5 stars Thoughtful advice, heartfelt and lucidly written
"Help Me Live" is a deceptively simple, straightforward guide for family and friends of cancer patients, but the advice it contains is just as useful for anyone with a relative, friend, or co-worker suffering from any grave disease. Building on her own terrifying experience, Lori Hope writes in a spare, economical style that often reaches the heights of eloquence. The simple language she puts to work in this precious little volume cast light on the emotionally complex reaches of the mind of anyone suffering the betrayal of the body. This is absolutely a must-read for anyone who wants to be truly supportive to a loved one in pain.

Erickson's medical condition fueled his way of healing others, so also, Nancy Klein's medical history fuels her way of healing children and families.School Psychologists and Psychotherapists supporting children confronting serious medical conditions will value this book.
