5-0 out of 5 stars Learn how to escape from the drawbacks linked to cancer fear
People interested in taking care of their own health should read the book. It is the next best thing to consulting Dr Welch. It liberates then from the drawbacks linked to cancer fear. It is also a remarkable training course for medical doctors. As an epidemiologist, I understood why cancer research is flawed : pseudo-cancers detected by screening preclude any improvement in cancer understanding. I also discovered why cancer screening leads to useless treatments. Current cancer health policy appears here as areligion based on a technical illusion. It reveals the folly of mankind when having to face disease and death.

5-0 out of 5 stars No study has confirmed that cancer screening extend lives.
This is a very well written short book on the excessive use of cancer testing. The book is divided in two parts. The first part explains the problems associated with the inaccuracy of cancer screening and its implications: painful over treatment including surgery. The second part educates one on how to interpret cancer statistics so as not to be vulnerable to the positive media spin.It also educates as to the limit of research findings. The benefits of cancer screening are often statistically unfounded. This part also educates on how to manage your doctor so you don't get over tested.

5-0 out of 5 stars Eyes Wide Open
Its nice to understand the origins of the AMA and all the regulations placed on holistic medicine. This is an excellent study of a pioneering effort to battle allopathic ritual. Hoxsey is unstoppable on what seems to be his mission from God, and Ausubel documents it thoroughly. An excellent read, showing lots of research.
5-0 out of 5 stars What an Expose!
This book had me riveted from the very first pages. The amount of work and research that went into this book proves, at least to me, the dedication Kenny Ausubel had for getting the full facts on both sides of the medicine involved -alternative and traditional. His deep research left me with even less confidence in traditional scientific medicine than I already had, which wasn't much except for acute care. My already very low opinion of the AMA, FDA, and big pharma was only confirmed and strongly convicted after reading this book. I have been recommending this book to everyone and that includes my online radio show audience. I very highly recommend everyone read this book so you can be informed to make the decisions for your own health.
5-0 out of 5 stars A must read!
I really enjoyed this book.I know people who have benefitted from Hoxsey treatment so that is why I was drawn to this book in the first place. It is very interesting to me that Hoxsey and his 17 clinics were pushed out of the United States. It seems that anything that wont make the pharmaceutical companies any money, is going to be targeted and yes, Hoxsey treatment was, even though it was helping people. In the response to the person who gave one star and claims they are making millions of dollars. The 3500 dollar is a LIFETIME charge. If you get cancer again you can go back for treatment. Here 3500 dollars will get you ONE emergency room trip and an x-ray. The doctors at the Biomedical Center in Tijuana are actual medical doctors and they are not receiving Mexican minimum wage. Also, once you arrive you go through testing. They take your blood, they have labs, x ray machines and most other medical technology for testing cancer. Those things cost money. It is not quite the money making scheme you make it out to be.All I know is 2 weeks on the Hoxsey diet and my tumors were gone, when the doctors here told me I had to have them surgerically removed.5 years later I have never had surgery.:) ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Worthy Read
I just finished this book today and found it very useful. The authors presented many helpful facts and cited many credible research trials and journal articles to support their points.I did not find the book to be inflammatory or alarmist, just filled with useful, practical and illuminating tips about what women can do to lower their risk for breast cancer. I admire the book's "prevention" approach: why wait for breast cancer to appear before getting into action? So many of the book's suggestions contribute to overall health in general, it just makes good sense to follow them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Inspirational
This is a wonderful book for anyone involved in the fight against breast cancer. Whether you are personally fighting the disease or have a loved one who is...or whether you are yet another person out there who hopes for the day that this disease is history! If you've ever participated in the Breast Cancer 3-Day walks, you will find some familiar stories here...universal stories of determination and courage that span each city and each year that these walks have been walked. You will read stories of what led people to participate...their reasons for walking, as well as their experiences on the walk. If you've never participated in one of these walks, you just may decide to do!I have participated in the Chicago walks since 1999 and so I was thrilled to receive this book as a gift. I not only found familiar stories, but I even recognized some of the names of other participants and even the descriptions of people who have cheered us on along the way. My aunt (a breast cancer participant and 3-Day participant) is quoted in this book which is extra cool!:o)Thank you, Deborah, for writing this book and putting these stories out there! ... Read more

This book was educational, inspirational, and very helpful.Since the author is a cancer survivor, she offers hope and encouragement from that perspective.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource for overwhelmed and newly diagnosed
I'm writing to tell you what comfort I received from reading your book.I read it the first time within two weeks of my husband's diagnosis and the start of chemotherapy.I have reread it again recently, and take it out when I need someone to reassure me God is in control, and to have faith.I often read sections to my husband that I feel will be of the most benefit to continue his incredibly strong belief he can beat it, no matter what the statistics say.
5-0 out of 5 stars All newly-diagnosed cancer patients should get this book!
This book is a fantastic resource for all cancer patients, but especially for newly-diagnosed cancer patients.Written by an MD who has cancer, it provides common sense guidance for many aspects of treating and living with cancer.I highly recommend this book for patients who have just been diagnosed.Read this book before you do anything! It is also valuable for cancer patients who have been diagnosed with a recurrence. An easy read, it is well worth the few dollars you will spend to own it. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars An outdated reference guide
This book "covers" 103 substances and treatments for cancer. In that sense, it was "comprehensive" 12 years ago. However, it appears to be written primarily for the researcher, rather than for the cancer patient. All the references are to studies, almost all of which would be "gibberish" to the average cancer patient.
3-0 out of 5 stars A Biased Viewpoint
Moss gives a good overview of many alternative treatments although the book is no longer current. My main criticism is that he is obviously biased in favor of alternative medicine. A search of the internet for information on the Gerson Diet, for instance, reveals a much more negative view of this treatment's effectiveness.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book To Help You Detoxify
This book gave me HOPE and a plan of action a few months ago, as I have breast cancer that has metastasized throughout my body. The surgeon who diagnosed me suggested that I purchase the book Death And Dying (don't ever believe your doctor, as only God knows His plans for you) but an acquaintance recommended A Cancer Battle Plan Sourcebook as well as the first book, A Cancer Battle Plan.Ann Frahm has been through the worst of it and survived. Now with her plan, combined with only 2 doses of chemo, I'm almost completely cancer free. Again, Ann gave me so much hope, and that's what people need more than anything when they get diagnosed. Since one out of two people are getting cancer, I highly recommend this book to everyone... that way you don't have to scramble to get information if you, your friends, or family get diagnosed. I'm thoroughly convinced that this plan of action could save the large majority of people with cancer, but people just aren't getting their hands on this type of information. Additionally, Dr. Frahm is a great guy who has emailed me with information several times. And, by the way, if you have cancer.... I"M WINNING AND SO WILL YOU!!

5-0 out of 5 stars In response to "Disappointing,..." from 2003
I will be honest, I have not read the book.I just had to respond to the reviewer who was upset that Anne died and that without the walking proof then the author is not credible. "Disappointed" must watch movies but you know what, life does not always have a happy hollywood ending.Cancer is an aggressive disease that ravages the body. You said it yourself that she was able to prolong her death.Read the other reviews, many people have had positive response by following this plan - but there are no guarantees. Her death (albeit from complications) shows this.To claim that there was a guarantee and proof that this plan is the cure-all would be irresponsible. And if nothing else, at the very least, these people have a positive experience while going through the plan and a positive mental outlook can be a very strong medicine.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book saved my life
To correct the above review,Anne Frahm actually died of iron poisoning due to having dozens of blood transfusions from complications resulting from a bone marrow transplant. The reviewer should do their homework before giving such a misinformed review.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Primer on Ovarian Cancer
I was healthy, young and active when, out of the blue, I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. The next thing I knew they cut me up, filled me with poison (chemo), blasted me into premature menopause and made my hair fall out.I was so overwhelmed.5-0 out of 5 stars Gilda's Disease
A great first read after diagnosis.Very informative about the why's and wherefore's regarding ovarian cancer made personal with excerpts from Gilda's Radner's book:It's Always Something (a great second read).5-0 out of 5 stars I laughed as I wept;life-or-death questions answered.
One of the most feared cancers is ovarian cancer, with good reason. It may be asymptomatic; what early symptoms do appear are vague, diffuse, and often are not taken seriously by either women or their doctors. As a result, the disease is often advanced before diagnosis occurs--as in the tragic case of Gilda Radner.Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars a truly biased view
Dr. Dattoli touts brachytherapy above all else, even though studies have shown that surgery offers surer long-term results, important especially for younger men who don't want their cancer to recur down the road.Seed implants can leave areas of the gland undertreated. Also, the idea that radiation causes fewer side effects is bogus. In fact, in addition to urinary and erectile problems, men getting radiation in any form run the risk of bowel problems.

2-0 out of 5 stars Comments on Surviving Prostate Cancer without surgery
The book suffers from a rhetorical bias against surgery -- a bias that leads to little good being said about surgery.A study reported in the Journal of the American Medical Association concluded that if you see a surgeon about treatment options he/she will likely represent surgery; if you initially see a radiologist, the recommendation is likely to be radiation.
5-0 out of 5 stars A potentially lifesaving book brimming with information
Radiation oncologist Michael J. Dattoli, M.D., Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner Jennifer Cash, and prostate cancer survivor and executive director of the Dattoli Cancer Center and Brachytherapy Institute Donald Kaltenbach present Surviving Prostate Cancer Without Surgery, a potentially lifesaving book brimming with information on the treatment options for those diagnosed with prostate cancer. In addition to possible choices of radiation, radical surgery, or some form of hormonal therapy, Surviving Prostate Cancer Without Surgery offers the latest medical data on state-of-the-art radiation therapy such as seed implants and IMRT (Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy). From its title, Surviving Prostate Cancer Without Surgery may appear to strongly advocate non-surgical approaches, but in fact the title is simply a reaction against the long-standing favoritism of surgery to the extent of perpetuating myths concerning how effective it truly is. Surviving Prostate Cancer Without Surgery gives an evenhanded assessment of various options, including statistical data with an eye toward possible contradictions or innacuracies hidden within the numbers. The goal is to provide the reader with as much information as possible, in clear, easy-to-understand terms, concerning prostate cancer, how it can be treated, why some men are more or less likely candidates for surgery than others, the risks involved in different types of treatment including risks of temporary or permanent incontience or impotence and how to get help - not only medical help, but also emotional and financial help. A "must-read" for anyone researching or personally grappling with difficult questions and problems concerning prostate cancer, the better to confront one's doctor and discuss options with as much knowledge about the situation as possible. Highly recommended.

Although the ghost writer of this tale did yeoman's work, I was overwhelmed on every page by what was between the lines: Rick Murdock would have died from this disease had he not been a rich and powerful CEO of a company that specialized in this treatment area. The average person, that is to say all patients who do not fall into the top 10 percent of wage earners in this country, are subjected to health care that has become increasingly rationed. Mr. Murdock ought to thank his lucky stars and donate the proceeds from his (the ghost writer's) book to hospice.

5-0 out of 5 stars dramatic, compelling read...
Overall, PATIENT NUMBER ONE is a compelling, dramatic true story that is fast-paced and socially relevant.Though story's most intense moments are played out over laboratory beakers and in the pages of patent infringement law-it's a fascinating read. The subject matter is on par with films like THE INSIDER, bringing to light some very ugly but very timely truths about big business and our legal system.5-0 out of 5 stars Ray of Hope
I have a Friend who just went through this process at John Hopkins. The results at this time are excellent and the procedures are almost exactly what the Author went through. I would recommend this book as a tool for all Patients that are diagnosed with this form of Cancer as a Ray of Hope for their peace of mind. The only downside is the exposing of how our Judicial System treats the Treatment of a serious illness as another point of Law. They should be ashamed and the Judge should be also for overturning a Jury verdict. They wonder why people have no respect for the Law and Jury Trials. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars WHATEVER, MR. Barrett...
This book/diet DEFINITELY has merit.I say this from personal experience.I know, I know...you are just some allopathic "doctor" who loves to collect money for prescribing drugs. The m and the d behind your name doesn't mean you always know what you are talking about. The word "doctor" USED to mean "teacher".Boy, have things changed.Did this book take away some of your insurance money?Did it actually keep some of your patients from coming to see you? That's a shame, huh?Oh, darn...that Mercedes payment is just going to have to come from sending someone to collections for not paying their co-pay.

5-0 out of 5 stars A few things to keep in mind;
-Actual- science is a rarity. What is promoted as science in society is often deception:Research isconducted by supposed scientific groups that are actually owned by the product's manufacturer. Government organisations named to sound like protection offices,(Department of Agriculture), are actually in place to promote business. Results are simply not released when the results don't go the 'right' way, so what the public sees as proof may be the one time out of ten that insures the "scientist's"job security. Conclusions are often drawn that contradict theobviously real conclusions, with the understanding that most of us won't wade through the technical jargon. My point is that "anecdotal evidence" , so maligned by the supposed scientists, is a whole different matter when it's YOUR anecdote. I'm witnesss to benign skin tumors dissolving,(for lack of a better word), on diets similar to the Grape Cure.Yes, going too long would be a mistake, but a couple of weeks on fruits only, during the warmer months, is certainly less harmful than ANY alternative offered by the 'proven' methods of the medical community. If you want be a 'Quackwatcher', the first thing you need to 'watch' is the 'Quackwatchers' themselves, where hidden motives abound.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another One of God's Natural Cures
Ibelieve Grapes is another one of God's great healing foods.I read the book many years ago and have always thought about what I read. Now once again the book is making a come back. Drugs don't heal, only alleviate symptoms. I know you need drugs in emergencies, but then study what's natural and try to heal your body that way. I believe grapes can clean out the toxins inside the body, but you must do a wholistic program for the grapes to be effective. Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Inspiring yes, helpful info - no
This book is inspiring and entertaining with uplifting stories of women affected by cancer. The only thing I found discouraging is that so many people facing cancer don't question some of the treatments they receive and do more digging into what is available, rather than just giving into the status quo and taking whatever their doctor gives them without question. I am an alternative medicine fan, so of course, I was hoping to see more accounts of women taking the initiative in this book and opting for more alternative treatments, which wasn't there. One reviewer mentioned breast cancer as possibly a "gift of higher understanding," which I just don't see. As a matter of fact, I can't see any cancer as being a "gift" of any sort.

5-0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly, not what you think!
A sensitive, well edited and written series of vignettes by, for, and about women and cancer. Forty six women share their stories, addressing depression, reflection, inspiration, information, and retrospection of facing cancer. But it is more than another breast cancer book; it is a celebration of women and their wealth of responses to adversity. This is a must-read for any woman facing her own or a friend's cancer, or for any man who loves or cares for a woman facing a medical challenge.

5-0 out of 5 stars Review of The Breast Cancer Book of Strength and Courage
"The Breast Cancer Book of Strength and Courage" was a wonderful source of comfort and encouragement.Having been recently diagnosed with breast cancer, I could truly relate to the feelings other women in the book experienced.I too had to make so many decisions in a short period of time.As I read the book, I realized how many other women had been in that same terrifying place, and how many women met the challenge of healing head on.Every woman's cancer is different, but the feelings that accompany the daignosis are the same.I truly appreciate the honesty and the willingness of all of the survivors who shared their stories.I would highly recommend the book to all women with breast cancer and to their families. ...
