3-0 out of 5 stars Good resource for new soapmakers.
I recommend this book to anyone interested in learning to make soap. After reading the book, I was hesitant with attempting to make soap since the author made it sound so complicated. (It took reading several other soapmaking books to get up the courage.)I use it more as a guide/advice book rather than a book for soapmaking recipes.

1-0 out of 5 stars PAID ADVERTISEMENT...Not with my money!
I resent squandering my faith in ordering this book. This is the most self serving waste of words I have ever ordered from Amazon. I expected a instructive and useful manual to help Black Women survive the hair wars.I expected helpful tips in understanding our hair & how to master the obstacles we encounter, ranging "yes, chemicals, but also the harsh environment. Some of us live in dry climates, humid climates, getting older & seeing hair changes, dry hair, thinning hair & to grow old with fabulous hair. something like this is what I call "talking hair",Instead, the first 50 pages address, "my spirtual journeys, daily affirmations & issues of not having loving parents?... is that why my hair is damaged? The last 150 pages are hair styles, mostly fake ones ( I can get in a fashion magazine for less!)One chapter gives useful instruction, so this book could have been 200 pages lesser and with thinner pages (like most books), instead of the 100# gloss paper used in half the book, giving false impression of providing volumes of useful instructions for desirous Black Women.Save your money, really!I am getting mine back!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book
This book was the most helpful on going natural. She's so thorough on everything that I am now making this my hair bible. It answered a lot of my questions.

5-0 out of 5 stars Helped me
This book helped me a great deal with my own relationship problems. I also reccomend Confusing Love with Obsession by John D. Moore

5-0 out of 5 stars Hard hitting
This is a good book for getting an unproductive or destructive relationship out of your head much more quickly and permanently than time alone will.Be sure you want to before you start. There's even the possibility you could become "just friends" without wanting to repeat past mistakes.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very insightful really hit home
I actually found this book in the free donated books section of the library and I needed help with this subject. I was skeptical at first but in reading it, I was amazed at how close the ideas in the book hit home. I started trying them and they are working.

2-0 out of 5 stars dissapointing
The book gives great information on the basic ingredients for lotions , but theres no "SIMPLE beginners recipe" in here, except perhaps at the end in the "Beauty Food" chapter.
3-0 out of 5 stars Interesting recipes, but...
As the owner of a home-based Bath and Body Products business, I am always on the look out for new recipes to try, adapt, etc.Although there are some fabulous sounding recipes in this book, the use of hydrosols, Sea Berry and Rose Hip Seed Co2 (had never heard of them before, ever) make them way too complicated and expensive for someone who just wants to learn how to put together some simple cosmetics at home. Some of the ingredients, waxes in particular, I'd never even heard of.Perhaps someone living in the U.S. would have an easier time acquiring the "exotics," but my excellent Canadian suppliers do not sell them.I also am not keen on her use of Borax in recipes as it can be a sensitizer for some people and there are gentler preservatives on the market one can use.I can't say I'm completely disappointed, but a strong word of caution to those thinking that they'll find easy "first timer" recipes in here -- they won't.

5-0 out of 5 stars Some New and Wondrful Recipes
I've read dozens of books over the years that use the same types of natural ingredients.Donna Maria has uncovered and made available the newest aromatheraputic technologies for the home nuetricutical maker. Some folks have had trouble locating ingredients perhaps like CO2 extracts, hydrosols, and waxes. In the years since the book was first published, these ingredients flourish on the internet...there's not one I haven't been able to find.I'm so excited to have a new direction to experiment with for facial and body preparations.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Bang for the Buck
I first saw this book at a tattoo shop.I started looking up all my tattoos and found that I was actually right about most of them! I bought one and haven't been able to put it down.If you're looking for some big bang for your buck, you can not go wrong here!Since I had already seen a copy, I knew exactly what I was getting. There's about one drawing for every 3 or 4 entries. The entries are short but enough to let you know if you should be getting that tat or not.

2-0 out of 5 stars If you are considering for public library purchase
There are no photographs in this book. There are black and white drawings illustrating SOME of the ideas in this book.
2-0 out of 5 stars Marginally helpful for the neophyte
Yet another mediocre book on the art of tattooing. If you're looking for in-depth coverage of tattooing, its origins, processes, etc...you're out of luck. If you're looking for good pictures of interesting artwork...you're out of luck.

5-0 out of 5 stars Changes Marriages
My wife and I have taken the materials from this great book and taught from it in several couples classes of 8-12 couples. We've also developed additional materials that complement the chapters in the book. The book comes at the issue of improving intimacy and communication from several different approaches. While the chapters do not necessarily fit smoothly together, in total they offer multiple options to improve your intimacy. The results for us have been dramatic.Several marriages on the rocks have improved using the skills and lessons.Everyone experiences improved communication in marriages and new hope. PS. They offer videos, but we found the video tapes were not as well received.

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT MARRIAGE BUILDING RESOURCE
This workbook is a great tool for couples to delve into intimacy issuesand deepen the bonds in their relationship. It has made a tremendouslypositive impact on my own marriage and that of others I know who have usedthe book.If your spouse is not particularly interested, you can stillbenefit greatly by doing the exercises yourself and it is also a wonderfulresource for groups of couples who desire to work on the intimacy issues intheir relationship. The format allows for both personal reflection andinterpersonal interaction and includes some great ideas on how to put whatyou have learned into action.I highly recommend this book both formarried couples and for those contemplating marriage!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for Marriage Enrichment!

1-0 out of 5 stars If 'unuseful' were a word, I'd use it.
I am a fashion designer who was looking for some good resource books to help with figure-appropriate designs.I came across this book after a long search and thought I had found gold.Unfortunately, it was not what I expected.I was really disappointed with the line sketches used to explain clothing choices and found those designs to be VERY outdated- especially considering the second printing was in 2002.For example, I could not disagree more with the advice for rectangular-shaped women- that they should opt for sack dresses that ignore the waist, rather than trying to create one.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
This bok with it`s beautiful drawings adds dimension to it`s material. This is a must for people who want to look their best and also a great book for clothing designers as weel as image consultants.

5-0 out of 5 stars Valuable for a seamstress
I found this book six years ago in the libarary.I took copious notes from it over the next few years I checked it out.I finally purchased it and with every reading get more tips for style.I wish I had purchased it sooner.

5-0 out of 5 stars My Shopping Bible
I bought this book, because I had a baby, haven't lost all the weight yet, and am having a hard time dressing my new body. This book was a Godsend! For one thing, even though it is packed with a ton of useful info, I read it in one day!I was so excited to get all these tips. What I really love is that Sam actually tells you what to buy. That's what I need - directions for shopping.I've been going to the mall wasting time and money buying things that look awful on me.I have a closet FULL of nothing to wear.Sam's book actually gives you a checklist of the essentials you must have to create a wardrobe. And I know now that I really need to embrace my tailor. Most of the clothes on the rack are just not going to fit me perfectly - but I now know that doesn't mean I have to settle for ill-fitting clothes.I just can't stress enough how much this book has helped me.I'm packing away my sweat pants and oversized shirts once and for all! This book is a most for all the women like me who wake up every day with nothing to wear.Whether you are a career woman, stay at home mom, college student, artist - WHATEVER!This book truly is written for EVERY WOMAN.

5-0 out of 5 stars Loved it
This is a really helpful read as a consultant for a women's line of clothing. I've also given it as gifts.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not many new ideas or examples
Really not sure why this book received such good reviews, because it had nothing new.Expected from the cover some reviews of outfits worn by different individuals pictured.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not all Good...
The pictures in this book are not very helpful when trying to recreate the styles. I purchased this book in order to gain ideas for hairstyles for my little ones. This book does contain pics of different styles, but it will only show the hairstyle from one angle. It may show a picture from either the front, side or back, but not from all three angles. If you just want to read a few stories about kids experiences with their hair, then purchase this book. If you are looking for pictures of hairstyles, consider yourself warned.

4-0 out of 5 stars It's All Good Hair
When my daughter was born, I had to send my sister down to the hospital store to buy an adult comb because none of those cute little baby combs would work.Being Black, I thought I knew all there was about caring for black hair. But my hair is fine and medium length and here I was with a baby with thick, coarse wavy hair.My daughter has long, beautiful healthy hair.A lot of girlfriends as well as strangers ask what do I use on her hair and how do I care for it.I ran across this book in a thrift store and purchased it for $1.I like this book because it does a good job of telling you how to take care of your child's hair from birth and to recognize that your child's hair might be different from yours.Yeah, the illustrations could be better, but it's a good place to start if you want to get up to speed with caring for an African American child's hair.I often give this book as a gift at baby showers accompanied by Jane Carter Solution's hair care products, especially nourish & shine--it's a must have!

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this book if your child has short hair!
I checked this book at the library and was so glad I didn't buy it. It had some really cute hairstyles but all the hair styles featured children with way past shoulder length hair. All the tips she gave were basic and stuff I already knew. She completely skipped toddlers. She had a small section on how to take care of babies hair and then jumped to pictures of older children with relaxed long hair. She had a small section for locked hair no section on nature hair and an area on how to relax your childs hair if her hair too nappy to comb. My daugher is only three. I was looking for tips to keep her hair healthy and to help it grow. She had one picture of a little girl with short braided hair and everyone else with hair down their back which is something most toddlers have yet. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Self Help Book
Great Self Helf Book which gives you wonderful insights into the emotional factors of your condition. Let's suppose skin conditions are partially genetical, partially caused by wrong food intake, partially caused by external conditions (wheather, dust mites, etc...) and partially caused by emotional/stress factors (some say ALL skin conditions are caused by inner anger). I suggest you take an integral approach to treat your condition and optimize your food intake and do whatever you can about external conditions. This will take the balance of your condition into the right direction. The next step is to explore the emotional/stress factors of your skin condition. That is what this book is great for!

Whenever my eczema flared up, my friends would tell me I'm too stressed out.I didn't feel that way, not much more stressed out than usual, so the timing of the flare ups and the stress level at that time was sometimes confusing.
5-0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly recommended!
For 10 years I have been struggling with eczema.Creams and treatments only did so much, and it never went away for long.I found that stress provoked my eczema and thought that there were underlying psychological reasons, but didn't know where to get help.Desperate I turned to the web and found this excellent book that details the reasons behind skin conditions, how to relieve the condition and to explore and deal with the underlying problem. The exercises to relieve itching work and the accounts of other people's conditions are enlightening. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars IT'S A MIRACLE IN MY LIFE!!!!!
The plan and systemic treatment that Dr. Perricone has developed works!I wish there was a way I could give testimonials in his behalf on finally proving that acne is systemic. After having a child at 27 years old, my skin totally changed and I became very acne prone.I would suffer from mild to moderate acne at all times. It was very rare that I did not have some form of breakout on my face, neck, back and/or chest. I went to numerous dermatologists and received great treatments. However, nothing worked.I took the antibiotic - Tetracyclin off and on for over 9 years. Since finding this book, I have been eating the foods and taking the supplements that are listed in the book based on my type of acne.I look completely different.I even choose to go without any foundation on my face. His information is great. For the first time in 9 years, I have not taken any antibiotics.IT IS FABULOUS and my skin is radiant.
1-0 out of 5 stars His skin products don't work. His diet isn't new (and imperfect)
