4-0 out of 5 stars Good book and good products
I saw her on the PBS special, read the reviews of this book on Amazon.com, and bought the most expensive PBS package which included this book, some of her products, and DVD. I felt her book did have useful information in it, although I was personally disapointed that she did not recommend a specific solution for the dark undereye circles I suffer from. What was most interesting in her book was that she explains how the cosmetic companies work, and how it is that even though they are including the latest ingredients in their products, their products still wind up ineffective due to being present in amounts to low to do anything. Also of interest is that she does recommend products of *other* companies; not just her own products. She sincerely seems like she wants to help everyone stop the aging of their skin.Personally, I have suffered from female late onset adult cystic acne, for which I took Accutane about 7 years ago. The Accutane effect has somewhat worn off and I do have cystic acne from time to time. I can honestly say that I think her products have made my skin feel the best of any cleanser that I have used to date. My skin has felt more consistently soft. It has not solved my acne problem, but I suspect that it has helped. I have also had a couple microdermobrasions and a micropeel this year, and I do believe that this has helped with some fine lines and helped to diminish the lingering red marks from acne.

5-0 out of 5 stars So Excited to Find Dr. Denese
I just saw Dr. Denese on PBS and ran here to buy her book.EVERYTHING she said correlated directly with what I represent being an Arbonne representative.I was so excited to see corroboration with yet another skin care expert (Dr. Perricone being the first) that everything Arbonne uses in their anti-aging line truly are the best ingredients available, even down to the peptides in the RE9 line and the CoQ10 in the supplement lines. And ESPECIALLY the advice of avoiding petreleum based products. You don't see that too often elsewhere, and it's is vital information - you have to check labels to make sure there aren't petroleum products in your skin care (unless you use Arbonne of course, because we never use petroleum products).Mineral oil (aka baby oil) is the main petroleum product used in 90% of skin care, yet it actually can contribute to the aging of the skin.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic book, Fabulous Skin Care Line
I bought this book after watching the PBS special and buying her defense day cream (SPF 30) and her amazing exfoliating facial pads. Both products are wonderful. As I finish up the current line of cosmetics I am using, I am moving into her skin care line.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent beginning makeup text
I am so happy I stumbled upon this book.I've been teaching stage makeup at various universities for over five years and using the Corson book. This book offers clear, color, step-by-step, examples of the basic makeup techniques I cover in my course. The only other book this easy to follow isMakeup for Theatre, Film, and Television by Baygen and it's out of print. This is definately my new course book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great tool for all actors and crew.
This is an excellent book for novice to veteran actors. Also good for makeup/costume crew.
3-0 out of 5 stars nothing special
The design techniques for basic contouring and period make-up are solid and the full color photos are helpful. Also, the author includes solid instructions for tranfering drawn schematics onto the face. The "fantasy" make-up section though is a joke-she showcases design projects from her jr. high/high school classes and many more closely resemble advanced face-painting instead of useful stage techniques. Unfortunately this book is still superior to many beginning stage make-up books on the market. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Michael McCabe is a Master
Michael McCabe is by far one of the finest cultural anthropologists our generation has seen. His experience as a professional tattooist and his ability to tell a wonderful story make his books both relevant and enjoyably readable---which is not always the case with the THOUSANDS of published books that are supposedly about the tattoo culture.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great resource!!
So one day while on Amazon, I happened to stumble upon this book. After reading other reviews, I decided to purhcase it. First of all, it is a SUPER easy read! I read it all in one day, though I always return to it for more info/resources. I love that she provides recommendations for mostly every product that she recommends having in your hair maintainence stash. I went out the next day and made some purchases and used it that night. I will be sure to come back later on to add to my review on whether or not my hair grew/improved, but so far, so good. Definitely purchase this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Informative, Educational Easy to Read!
I really enjoyed this book. I've read many hair care books, however I recommend this book if you want a no nonsense approach to growing long hair.I enjoy the regimens that she sets in place for healthy, stressed, and damaged hair. She seems to have really researched hair thoroughly.Unlike Cathy Howse book she does not offer her own products (she doesn't make her own).Cathy seems to be too militant and indifferent and her hair isn't all that long. Unlike other books, Ms. Smith explained the hair stages, and structures very well. She even gives suggestions on good products to use.Yoga is against my religious beliefs, therefore I did not read that portion of the book.Overall, I think this is a great solution to the problems associated with African American hair, and I highly recommened it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book!
I purchased this book during late spring 2005 when I was dying to find an easier way to deal with this thick stuff on my head. :-)I loved the chapter on giving your hair an extended break for maximum hair growth....I followed her suggestions & got my hair done in African Curly Twists; as opposed to braids.I wore my hair that way from June 1 2005 until September 29th (I got it redone mid July) & my hair practically grew like weeds....@ least 2 1/2 to 3 inches in some places!I love her suggestions on extra conditioning (more than once a week) & massaging with essential oils. Now I have even more"thick stuff on my head & I'm lovin' it! Get the book. :-) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Looking Good Certainly Does Make You Feel Good!
I purchased Facebuilder on a whim.Actually, I was turning 50 and started to see an older face staring me back in the mirror.Boy was I was looking tired! So I got the book and the DVD to go along with it.I practiced the exercises for 3 weeks and I gotta tell ya - I am a new man today! My face looks more energized, my eyes are wide open and my jaw looks toned an strong.Thank you Carole -- and you are such a hottie!

3-0 out of 5 stars A lot of irrelevant information
Only about 30% of the book contains information about the exercises and related questions. The rest of time the author keeps on telling how wonderful the Facebuilder program is.
5-0 out of 5 stars Only 7 minutes a day!!!
I own a aesthetic and plastic surgery center in Scottsdale, Arizona.Several of my patients are men, I encourage a great deal of these patients to do "Facebuilder", in just 7 minutes a day these patients are able to dramatically tone their face.

4-0 out of 5 stars Ready or not, here life comes
Another good book to read by Mel Levine. His books are very informative and you do learn alot from him.

3-0 out of 5 stars Enough already!
Mel Levine's basic proposition is that our culture is dysfunctional in its ability to transition young adults, whom he calls "startup adults", from high school and college to productive working lives and careers.Levine passes blame all around - youth culture's fascination with being "cool" and instant gratification, the public school system and higher ed. system's failure to prepare students for reality, etc.Levine presents a simple four-part framework for understanding and dealing with the problems he identifies.

Not at all for lymphedema patients but otherwise a good view of lymph drainage for peoplele with less compromised or healthy lymph systems.

3-0 out of 5 stars review
I found this book very american. It skimmed the theory and dangerously avoided dangers of treating non healthy clients.I found the instructions confusing and unhelpful. I would not recommend this book.

3-0 out of 5 stars Short and Sweet
The book was short and good hearted, but was more of a brief history of hedonism with a splash of advice. It did have good sugestions but I felt the author repeated himself often. The book could have easily been a third of the length and not have kept any material out. The book gets a three for it's good intentions.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best books I've read
When I first got this book I had a minor interest in it, I thought it would just be an amusing read, but I loved it. I've always been ambitious and very goal-orientated but after reading this book I now have a different (better) perspective on things and it's helped me to relax. This book talks about how people like to achieve things just to boost their ego, even if it isn't what they'd really like to be spending their time doing. The title of the book sounds a little shallow and superficial but it's actually quite detailed about the points it makes - giving historical and modern day examples. Even if you don't agree with everything the author suggests (some things are not practical, but most are) it can still be an insightful and entertaining read.

5-0 out of 5 stars EUREKA!
This book is exactly what I have been looking for!

5-0 out of 5 stars Is that even me?
This book is very easy to follow. My brows have never been so beautiful! All along, I knew I was doing something wrong, I just didn't know what...then, along came this book!
5-0 out of 5 stars I Wish I Read This Book When I Was 15!
I never realized the impact that properly groomed and trimmed eyebrows can do for a face until I read this book. I had never given much thought to my eyebrows other than to make sure they didn't overgrow and look ugly. However, I was never satisfied by my eyebrows and always found them lacking. It was the weak link in my made-up face. After reading this book and buying a few inexpensive supplies, I'm happy to say that I know what to do for my brows and I love the finished look my makeup now has. (And I didn't need to use stencils!)
4-0 out of 5 stars Exactly what I was looking for
Turns out that the right eyebrows can really change the way you look for the better! After reading this book, I learned what is the right eyebrow shape for my face and how to achieve it. The book does advertise the author's products, but they give step by step instructions for achieving desired shape with or without those products. Check out their site to see what I am talking about: www.eyebrowz.com. I gave it a 4 because I think it is way too expensive for such a tiny book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Get this book!
I love this book so much that as soon as I had a chance to look through it I called up my best friend and told her she had to get herself a copy, #1 because it's that good, and #2 because I'm not willing to part with mine, even for her!Now if that's not a glowing recommendation, I don't know what is!
3-0 out of 5 stars I was disappointed
Based on a newspaper article, I expected more on how to dress to minimize the appearance of "fat", so I was disappointed that a lot of the book was how to stand (pigeon-toe'd?!)and what angle to stand or sit. These may be of benefit for photos, but I cannot see myself deliberately positioningevery moment of my day.How would anything get done?

1-0 out of 5 stars Not a help

1-0 out of 5 stars Rip-off
This book is a rip-off. If you want simple, easy recipes to follow, don't buy this book. This book gives a lot of useless information and is poorly written.

4-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful photos, a bit confusing
I read this book countless times trying to absorb the processes before I began. I was a bit intimidated, but was that way with CP soaping as well, so knew it was all about "diving in". I've tried two batches of the alcohol method and they were extremely thin. After boiling the soap down for a whole day it got thick, but then crystals started appearing the next day. I probably put too much borax in, but don't really know since I messed so much with the recipe trying to first melt the soap completely (it says if doesn't dissolve it's too concentrated) then thickening it up (then it was like water). Just made my second batch and it's sitting there, thin as can be at 40% soap, with the maximum recommended Borax. I hope to write a better review with a successful batch.

2-0 out of 5 stars Interesting, but not practical
After making cold process soap for several several years, and working in product development for a major soap company, I must say that this book is interesting, but not very practical and certainly confusing.I suppose I need more science to really understand this process.I found the soap to be very drying, with a "fat" smell that was really hard to cover. Also, the shelf life was not very long. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book to Have......
I tend to grab this book more and more. Its great to know what all the ingredients are in the facial ptroducts I use. Knowledge is power. Helps to pick products that works best for me for better results. And also learned how many products I was using that were from companies that are still using animal protein and animal byproducts so I can stay away from them and find products that use more of a humane and up to date approach of using natural ingredients. The thought of using products out of the name of vanity just grossed me out. I have sincecleaned out my cabinets and threw out all of those products. And by using this book found companies that make products that suite me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Useful reference guide
This book is a useful guide. Can help people to understand what they are using and I believe that this is the right approach. Know what you have and use if you want. Great!

5-0 out of 5 stars Much used consumer reference

5-0 out of 5 stars Information for everyone
Whether you are a menace to yourself with eye pencil or are a Femme Fatal already, there is so much up to date info and specific useful suggestions and product recommendations that I have completely changed how I care for my skin and the rest of me as well! I finnally feel like I have a handle on all this, and it's all for the good. I am going to buy a copy for all my friends, male and female. Why not? Everyone deserves to look their best, in whatever way the wish. Especially good if you are short of funds and REALLY need to know what can be skimped on and what can't.

5-0 out of 5 stars I am a beginner in beauty stuff. This book is great for me!
Every profession has its insider information which is well known by people who do this business but is kept as a big `mystery' to outsiders.I liked how the author described how to evaluate the numerous beauty products on the market.I believe she is telling some truth.
5-0 out of 5 stars everything you need to know
The book isn't just about the basics, its about everything you needto know. it's a big book about how to take care of yourself in many ways, for example, what type of foods gives you good nails and heathy hair. it gives you ingredients to make our own moisturizer, face wash, exfoliant, face mask, and alot more. it even shows you a list of all the good salons and if you want to save money, theres instructions and ingredients of setting up your own. okay here are more subjects that they give you. what to eat, what products to buy, what kind of skin you have, what are the major steps on taking care of your face, hair removal, make up, body, hair, and a spa area. of course these are broken down even smaller on how to take care of everything. although the only thing i was disappointed about was the make up section. it is not fit for some races, especially asians, but i dont much wear makeup myself so it doesnt really much matter. i still give it 5 stars. BUY IT NOW. IT IS A REALLY REALLY REALLY GOOD BOOK. and trust me it isn't just the basics. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Still Relevant For Today
I was never a fan of Malloy's books when I first read them in the 1980s and 1990s. But I must admit that his basic principles hold true today. Classic attire is best for interviews and companies (such as pharmaceutical sales) that are still traditional suits-only fields. He is also correct when he says that the fashion industry works against professional attire for women, and that if you are excessively stylish in a corporate setting, you will lose credibility. Changing fashion styles are an incredible waste of money. However, you should disregard the outdated suits, rigid hairstyles and hard attache case in favor of more contemporary classic styles. A better book for that is "Dressing Smart" by Chic Simple Author Kim Johnson-Gross. Moreover, if you work in a creative field, you must not follow the navy & white starched formula of dressing--this could get you demoted. Malloy does mention this point, but doesn't really advise for creative jobs.

5-0 out of 5 stars read it and do what it says
All women should read it and do what it says.As a manager, I know what high importance is placed on presentation. In the workplace today, people have become too casual. Why not do all you can to earn more money, gain more respect and be percieved optimally as a professional? It is very easy for women to make wardrobe mistakes at the office today because of the sexy and casual fashions we see in all the stores. This is a bible for the working woman!

5-0 out of 5 stars Classic, Timeless Advice
This new edition of "Women's Dress for Success" covers a lot more than clothes and accessories, and is a treasure trove of advice for any woman interested in self improvement. For most of us, there is usually room for "image enhancement," in how we present ourselves to the world, as our way of dressing and speaking, etc. all sends a message. John Molloy's recommendations are also helpful if you are on a budget. His "fabric test," color combinations, and style tips will save you a lot of money, and you can even do well using his guidelines shopping in a thrift store! You will no longer buy without planning, the things in your closet will mix and match properly, and you will not buy something "just because it's on sale," and find later that it doesn't really look good with anything else you own.
