Dr. Weil has raised dispensing health advice to an art form. Instead of making his audience feel inadequate or guilty about bad habits, he seems to subconsciously convince readers to do better merely by presenting health facts in a non-threatening way. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars You've got to read this book!
I received this book as a gift. There are quite a few books on this subject on the market and this one is the best. I too could not put it down and finished it in 3 days. It's a huge book, a great resource that is well researched and written.. I have a few friends who've purchased this book and really loved it too. I can highly recommend this book.
2-0 out of 5 stars Same info as before
There isn't anything new here unless you want to fall asleep reading about cheese and whisky.Dr. Weil gives examples of how some cheese's and whisky get better as they age as if this is supposed to correlate to people.I love Dr. Weil's other books and his website but I was disappointed by this book.If you want to read a good anti-aging book read Roy Walford's 120 year Diet.An excellent read.

    1-0 out of 5 stars Don't Bother
Don't EVEN bother buying this book.If you can avoid the snores with all the medical mumbo-jumbo, maybe this book is for you.Bottom line is: don't fret about aging because it's going to happen to you and eat right, exercise and take your vitamins. So what else is new?

5-0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable and highly usable
Terrific 2 CD set - enjoyable to listen to, highly informative, short and sweet. You are on your way to using the techniques immediately.Nice addition to my "arsenal" of self-healing techniques.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for Beginners
I am just a beginner at Meditation, and I am trying to learn this for my health.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good introduction to meditation
This is a solid introduction to the practice of meditation. The first disc features Weil and Kabat-Zinn giving background information about meditation. The second disc features guided meditations. Like any spiritual practice, the more information an individual gets, the better he or she becomes at that practice. This set of discs is a good starting point that will get a person going into meditation immediately, which might lead the listener to pursue additional materials about spirituality. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Weil Good
I've been into breathing as long as I can remember...uhhhh...that was a joke by the way, you can laugh now...I remember when I was a kid if I hurt myself my dad had me look up at the sky and breathe deeply. Even recently, I just had back surgery and I was having trouble getting comfortable, my dear, sweet, 80 year old "poppa" told me to look up and breathe deeply, and y'know what, it still works.
4-0 out of 5 stars good cd
The first cd in the two cd pack is kind of a waste, Weil reads his book aloud. The second cd is the "meat" of what most of us are looking for in this product, eg guided breathing exercises. I liked the exercises which were explained in a plain, easy to follow manner. I also like the music that he uses to bring one into a relazed frame of mind.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!
This is a fantastic, short, highly usable CD from Dr. Weil. The "quick and dirty" way to learn and immediately use the basics of improving your health and well being with breathing exercises.Very enjoyable to listen to. Love it! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Basic guide and many tips to better health- but use with caution
Andrew Weil is alegendary figure in the Health business. He advocates a mix of conventional medicine( for crises) and alternative medicine ( prevention and maintenance). He is a best- selling author and this present work is a revised edition of one of his best known books.

5-0 out of 5 stars Increasing Awareness through Breath and Healing Music
The mindbody tool kit is a perfect escape into relaxation. Through this kit you have instant access to breathing techniques, meditation, guided imagery and sound therapy.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good Introduction to Four Healing Modalities
"From coping with stress and reducing the severity of symptoms to easing chronic pain and strengthening the immune system, there's a broad range of mind-body methods that you can take advantage of and regularly use to enhance physical and mental health." - From the guidebook
5-0 out of 5 stars Useful Introduction to Mind-Body Therapies
The editorial description covers it nicely: This toolkit provides an introduction to breathing, meditation, guided imagery, and sound therapy. It is intended to aid individuals with mind-body healing. The short instruction book/journal with 2 CD's and 25 flashcards is just enough of a sample for you to decide if this approach is for you. If so, you might be moved to purchase CD's for each major topic as produced by Dr. Weil and respective practitioners. Taken together with his recent book on aging, I found the toolkit quite useful. Dr Weil's perspective seems practical enough and he's a good guide through the fields of both alternative and traditional medicine. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Helpful and Healing
This is my fourth purchase of Weil's CDs in the past 14 months. The first two were for my partner who was anticipating and then recovering from diverticulitis surgery. The second and third pairs were for friends enduring chemo and radiation after cancer surgery. The latest was for my oldest nephew who is dealing with a currently inoperable/untreatable intracranial hemorrage. My nephew, a hard-living Texas oil industry type, was the only one resistant to the concept. After actually trying the process, he's on his way to a 360. My partner and my friends didn't resist at all and put these meditational practices to good use immediately with very positive results. I might add that they, and I, continue to use the CDs for health maintenance.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent First Choice for Learning Breath Yoga
If you have never done breath work before, Dr. Weil's CD: Breathing The Master Key to Self Healing is an excellent first choice that will provide a series of short exercises to improve your breathing technique, quiet your mind, and help you clear your daily tension and anxiety prior to deeper meditation. This initial preparation assumes that you know little about breath discipline (a form of Yoga), and takes you from the very beginning with a kindly voice and beautiful music.Dr. Weil's producer has taken care to provide the best quality sound, the best musicians, and even a high quality CD that will resist wear.(I use my CD every day on my bus commute to town.)

1-0 out of 5 stars BORING AGAIN
I know exactly what another reader means here, but it seems to be the norm of using the same words for the relaxion, but throwing in a few words for whatever the title of the CD claims to be. It doesn't do guided imagery justice, which works very well with some other authors.

5-0 out of 5 stars Helps to heal
I used these CDs for healing after a surgery and they were very useful to me.I didn't know if they would actually work, but I felt that they did. They made me more aware of what was going on in my body (and soul) and so made me more aware of how I could heal.I recommend them.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not very impressive and redundant....
I didn't think this CD set was a good value. There are a lot of other products in this genre and I don't think this particular one is up to snuff.

5-0 out of 5 stars Understanding food groups
For the first time I've been able to read and understand a book on eating healthy! The author breaks down the related food groups and explains in simple terms how they affect your body and how you can gain control of this process. The book is not a receipt book of uneatable health foods, but an explanation of what food groups will benifit your body and which do not. It allows YOU to make the choice.
5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible!
I cannot say enough great things about Dr. Weil. My husband got us on to this by listening to the book on tape. We were so fascinated with it all, that we bought the book and three more to give to family. My husband has lost 10 lbs in about 2 weeks and I've lost about 20 in the last 4 months. We had no idea just what we were eating! Now our three year old is getting on board and eating more of her vegetables. It's just a matter of getting educated and learning what your really doing to your body. Once you read this book - get ready - because your now too educated to put the same things in to your body that you once thought were the norm. We look better, our skin is clearer and more glowing, my husband can see his abs again :) and the biggest thing is that my husband is now off of Nexium after changing his eating habits. He has been on it for the last year, and has taken heartburn medicine for the last 10 years. He's been off of Nexium for 3 weeks now and feels great! Kudos to Dr. Weil!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent information on diet that anyone can follow
I was educated as a biochemist and worked in the pharmaceutical doing medical research at one time. What always amazed me about hospitals is that they didn't pay very much attention to the importance of good food in a similar way that the food industry doesn't always seem to pay attention to food's relation to health. This book illuminates some important principles of eating that are reasonable, realistic to follow and not necessarily widely known. This is a good thing in a world where this topic is often neglected.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tremendous Source of Insight
"Coyote Medicine" is a tremendous source of insight and experience within the path of shamanism and health. Dr. Mehl-Madrona's story-telling is magnificent and at times very suspenseful hitting directly on our sensitive health and spiritual issues we face culturally. But, he doesn't give you easy answers, because his path to becoming a healer was very complex. For me, this book opened up parts of my consciousness and answered questions I was asking and some of those I hadn't yet asked. This book was truly a God-sendand I am savoring every word I read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential Reading on Holistic Medicine
This book blew me away.I have reread much of it so many times and bought multiple copies for friends.I have filled the margins of my copy with notes and filled notebooks with essays and thoughts inspired by Dr. Mehl-Madrona's book.It is nothing short of miraculous itself, in addition to describing medical miracles and how they are brought about by spiritual intervention and Native American healing.5-0 out of 5 stars Take the risk and make the leap
Coyote has always been a special animal to me, so the title jumped out at me.The two feathers and physician's symbol on the cover present a beautiful balance. The physician's symbol has the twin serpents and the two wings of the one.In the background is the four, the Mystery.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth adding to your collection
Dr. Weil and Rosie Daley have done an excellent job with this cookbook. First of all, the pictures are beautiful & inspiring. And the nutrition advice and cooking tips scattered throughout the book are a welcome break from the typical recipe-after-recipe format. The cookbook has a personal feel to it, enhanced by the comments preceding many of the recipes (gotta love hearing WHY you should bother with a recipe - rather than the assumption that if it's there, you'll make it).
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book for health conscious food lovers!

Simply put, this is a very good book. It explains so many useful concepts that you need to focus on and try to apply in your tai chi practice. Complementary and alternative medicine, which ranges from acupuncture and chiropractic care to more esoteric disciplines such as Ayurveda and traditional Chinese medicine, was a $14 billion industry by the year 2000. As the public's interest in health practices outside the purview of conventional medicine has increased, so has the controversy about the efficacy of such methods. But while conventional doctors criticize the absence of conclusive clinical evidence for most alternative therapies, there is nevertheless a growing number of people who suffer from chronic illnesses and, frustrated by the usual medical route, are willing to try new modalities. 4-0 out of 5 stars Alternative medicine: a guideto sorting evidence and myth
If you consider yourself open-minded about medical therapies, but are bewildered by, if not downright sceptical of, popular claims regarding alternative medicine, this book may be one of the best guides to help you sort actual scientific evidence from hearsay.5-0 out of 5 stars Engaging, Encouraging and Authoritative
This is an engaging and encouraging survey of evidenced-based, complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) from the perspective of a leading medical researcher well-experienced with the many scientific and public policy issues involved in CAM.It provides a delightful educational experience and deserves a prominent spot on the health reference shelf for many reasons.4-0 out of 5 stars Must be read carefully
Like most people I am aware of the scientific limitations of some complementary and alternative medical practices and approaches (CAMs).I am also aware that there are some ailments that are most effectively treated by conventional methods. As Dr. Pelletier points out, "conventional medicine excels in the treatment of acute trauma, childbirth emergencies, treating broken bones, performing corrective surgery, and treating acute, life-threatening illnesses" (p. 183).Nonetheless I am a staunch supporter of alternative approaches taken selectively, in particular those based on a long history of practice, such as acupuncture, Chinese medicine and some aspects of Ayurvedic medicine.I am also aware that the theory behind these practices is sometimes flawed in a scientific sense, and that the reason for the effectiveness of some of the treatments is not fully understood.Additionally, it is sometimes impossible to separate the effectiveness of a therapy from the placebo effect. The fact is, however, the art and science of medicine is still in its adolescence at best, and we have a lot to learn.I think in particular the American Medical Association and its members have a lot to learn. The main thing they should understand is that a strictly scientific approach to the healing arts is of limited effectiveness because an essential part of the healing process is treating the whole person, physically, mentally, and emotionally. This is particularly true of the chronic diseases that plague modern societies.Read more

"Health," Dr. Andrew Weil writes, "is a dynamic and temporary state of equilibrium destined to break down as conditions change." In other words, there's no such thing as the type of health that allows you to feel equally great every day of your life. Instead, Weil suggests, your goal should be to improve your resilience to disease, and while you're at it, feel more joy and strength.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Lots of good advice presented systematically, some speculation too.
Overall, I think this is a very good book for someone who is trying to turn their health habits around, but is overwhelmed by all of the possibilities. It also a good track to run on for someone who wants to implement important life changes in an easy step-wise fashion. There is nothing fanatical about the recommendations and they can be easily implemented by almost anyone.
4-0 out of 5 stars Not for everyone, but a good place to start.
If there's one thing of critical significance that can be taken away from this book it is the importance of eating whole, nutritious foods free from chemicals and presevatives on a daily basis for the rest of your life. It means turning over a new leaf, making sacrifices and learning something new but if you are over 35 and need to improve your health this may just be the answer you're looking for (assuming from the outset you have no major health problems). While I found a few of Dr. Weil's suggestions to be out of my realm of practicality---fresh-cut flower arrangements every day, for instance----most of the other recommendations presented in the book are rather straight-forward and provide a simple strategy for getting back on the road to good eating and optimal health (like daliy walks, relaxed breathing and weekly breaks from news and current events). I had always loved foods like broccoli, ginger, garlic, sardines and olive oil so most of the dietary guidelines, for me,were easy to deploy. Dr. Weil instructs the reader to go to the pantry and throw away---that's right----throw away all of the bad, chemically-preserved foods in you pantry; canned soups, margerines, gravy mixes, bottled dressings, snacks, cakes, soft drinks, foods containing hydrogenated oils, aspartame, msg, dyes, etc. This is critical since it lays the foundation for good health in the coming weeks. Demanding that the reader abrubty cut off his supply of "comfort food" may
