Strategies for dealing with the opposite sex
This book not only explains the differences between men and women but also gives strategies to each sex for dealing with those differences. For example men and women have different values. Men tend to value competence and accomplishments while women tend to value relationships. Women tend to express their caring by offering unsolicited advice that is often causes men to feel incompetent. Women need to express how they feel about their problems, while men interpret this as blaming them for their problems. Men often need time alone to solve their problems while women interpret this as not caring. If everyone practiced the methods in this book the sexes would get along much better. The book, however, is at times dry reading.

Very insightful
In response to other reviewers, yes, this book does rely heavily on stereotypes of male and female behavior.If you find you don't fit the stereotypes (and of course not everyone does!), then you'll need to look for another book.But for many (most?) of us, the insights and advice in this book will be very helpful.As I read, I was constantly amazed by how much I could see myself and my husband in John Gray's descriptions.Last night I had my first opportunity to try out his techniques on how to prepare a man to listen...and it worked beautifully!A situation that would certainly have escalated into a hurtful argument was diffused into a calm, brief conversation that left both of us feeling warm and loving toward each other.

Grrr!
Mars and Venus Together Forever is one of the most ridiculous, stupid books that I have ever had the gross misfortune to read.I probably should have expected what I got, considering that Mars and Venus on a Date left me cold, but I read this one anyway because the original Mars and Venus book had SOME interesting insights and I'm a sucker for a cheap book.
Wordy, but accurate

excellent guidance for moving on/& letting go of pain/hurt
typical John Gray take on male/female differences in dealing with loss, break-ups, or divorce, I found myself learning more & realizing what we tend to do without awareness when we have had our hearts broken & life altered, especially after any long-term marriage/relationship of 20+ years, it is not only a loss/death of a marriage, it is a total change of life-style, mind-set,& new set of rules, but what John Gray helped me to see is without healing properly from this event or any major loss, that if we don't grieve, & feel all the emotions from sadness, sorrow, fear, to anger we can't release the unhealthy part of that relationship & move forward to love & be more balanced in a new relationship, I think it will help me & others who have a desire to grow & be more balanced, without as John says by (giving too much or avoiding intimacy) I would advise this to anyone ready to move forward in their life with a open heart towards others.

THE GOSPEL TRUTH AND "FOREWARNED IS FOREARMED"
This is the first book that clarified for me what men are doing when they use women the way they do after they get divorced.I'm a coach who works with midlife daters, and I see it all the time.I hoped it was just a few bad apples.Evidentally not.According to Gray, it's more the norm.That's like finding out there isn't a Santa Claus ... an illusion destroyed, but good to know, because a man "in transition" is simply not available emotionally, yet can be the most romantic and ardent seducer the woman has ever had, so she never sees it coming.He gets his ego back together and drops her like a hot potato.

Women's orgasms aren't important
I have been reading this book out loud to my BF, who now worships Dr. Gray as it should be titled, "Why women should give men sex all the time".
Well intentioned advice for men; women not included.
Dr. Gray must be a wonderful lover.As a woman I read his hints and suggestions for a man's love making technique and marvel at his insight.I truly could not have imagined a man so aware of what a woman really wants in the bedroom. However there are no corresponding ideas for a woman geared to improviing her skills as a lover.By maintaining a position of gallant "ladies first" mentality he, in truth, is demeaning the power of women's sexuality.

I wasn't expecting this book to somehow transform my sex life, but I certainly didn't expect the garbage I read.

A time honored classic
I am a Mars Venus Counselor in the Boston area. Another "I wish I would have read this earlier in life!" book

Surprisingly good
I ignored John Gray and his Mars-Venus venture for over a decade because I just could not relate to it. In fact, I thought it was stupid. But one day, he won me over. His approach toward love, relationships, and in this book, dating, is so strangely refreshing. Among a sea of dating books advocating game-playing and settling, Gray emphasizes love and finding one's soul mate. In this book, he explains the 5 stages of dating and how going through these stages provides the setting for recognizing when you've found your soul mate. He also explains the different kinds of attraction (physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual) and how they happen in a different order for men and women.

Practical and Insightful
Rarely does a book do such a good job informing the reader in a way that can change lives. John Gray helps the reader understand there are inevitable differences between men and women and the key to success in relationships is to understand and navigate those differences rather than to try and change or ignore them. I also highly recommend Men in Marriage: Straight Talk For Men About Marriage: What Men Need to Know About Marriage (And What Women Need to Know About Men)by Marty Friedman.
Saved our marriage.. literally
My wife and I divorced in 1995. We were apart for two years. Situations in our life kept bringing us back together to deal with children. Eventually we decided to try to put our marriage back together so we went to Christian counseling. Our counselor had us read this book. Time after time my jaw would drop open while reading. My wife said the same thing. I remember saying, "She isn't crazy afterall. Our differences are normal." Both our eyes were opened allowing us to accept our differences without feeling the other one did not care of love the other. This book along with our desire to do God's will was the basis for our putting our marriage back together. We remarried after 2-1/2 years apart. That was six years ago. I buy this book regularly to give to couples old and young alike. It is a Godsend for a society too quick to divorce and too misunderstanding of one another.

Emotional Communications--4+ stars
This is a fun pop-psych book with some valuable insights, techniques for releasing negative feelings in relationships, & 100 author-drawn illustrative cartoons.It's a very fast read.His basic premise is that TACT ="Telling the Absolute Complete Truth" will free you from negative emotions.If you repress them instead, you experience "The See Saw Effect--When we push down a feeling, it comes up in our partner."This is an interesting take on projection & repression.The 3 methods to deal with these emotions are: AWESOME!! Simple but powerful. Funny!!
This book is so easy to understand, in a humorous way, the intricacies of our emotions. It is hilariously entertaining with cartoons drawn by the author. John Gray, in a playful yet insightful way, shows us all the different styles in which we repress our emotions and act in ways that are not straightforward. It also shows how we keep love from ourselves. I have used this book in my parenting work for many years as a map to emotional fluency for family health. It has been delightfully received as a work of art with some real tools on the road to emotional healing!! Thank you, John Gray!!

Very Very Good
This book is very helpful in understanding yourself and your partner.It is a very easy read and could be mistaken as too "simple" - but the beauty of this book is that it has taken some of the most complex feelings and reduced it to bite size ideas and adorable cartoons.I am a highly educated person and thought the cartoons were brilliant (BS, MS, JD) - some reviewers did not like them? Glad I didn't buy my own copy.
Very disappointing. I don't think the things mentioned in this book are so generically applicable. I read it for an hour and left it, unimpressed. It gives the feeling that the author has a specific male and female individual (or bunch of individuals) in mind, and carries on with that image.

YOung marriages
Usually the first few chapter discourage me or encourage me to continue reading, I have in fact read on.I have seen many communication problem's in everyday life; people are misunderstanding the other other people aroundthem.Simple because they are only interested in theirself.I find thisbook a caluable asset to my relationships.I will be purchasing this bookfor my sister and brother in law. A wonderfull christmas gift for anyone ina relationship.

I love this book. While his other books give a great overview, this one is wonderful because it is broken down into a little information each day. Case Histories of Couples Working with John Gray
If you liked John Gray's book, Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus, you may enjoy hearing these stories of how the ideas in that book were used by couples who attended his seminars and did counseling sessions with him.A primary benefit appears to have been providing a couple with a common language about their communication needs.The ideas will have more power after hearing how someone else reacted to and used them.These reactions are in the form of letters that are read by John Gray in this audio cassette version. Not the best, but certainly helpful.
I picked up this book because I was looking for something that would make me feel as though my life were more fulfilling. I knew a lot of it had to do with my perception of events that occur. Because of that, I had to seek out a way to help me change the way I view things. So I picked up this book, thinking it would be a big help.

Wonderful Nightly Reading!
I enjoyed this book but if you are a person that doesn't like John Gray then don't waste any of our time reading this book only to down it afterward.I think the book is great and being a Reiki Master I loved the section about recharging technique in which I tried and really felt the energy flowing from my elbows to my fingertips.I haven't tried connecting to the energy in this manner before and really felt the affects for a while afterward.I am going to use the technique often.

GREAT AUDIO BOOK!
This is an uplifting book that reviews love in general - a great self help book. Self help books are so good for you - even if you don't feel you need them there is always something you can learn. This book is no exception.

Truly Mars and Venus
I'm a 17 yr. old high school student that had to do a report on love, differences, and communication. My teacher suggested the other book, and Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus, but the lazy student that i am, i went for the shorter version. But wow, this book is amazing, I'm so glad I read it, I've learned many things about men that i will be able to use throughout life.
