A Balance of Letting Go and Drawing Closer
There is nothing new in Angeles Arrien's book about the second half of life. Indeed, there isn't meant to be. Our lives at midpoint are about putting aside newness and embracing the ancient, the everlasting, the always true.
The worst of its kind
I found this effort weak and even irritating on several levels.I'll start general and get more specific.

Four-fold Way
I like the book better than the CDs. There is a nice breakdown of information and a simple to understand text.

5 stars for 4 Fold
I got this book as recommended reading for a workshop I took on the heart. It contains a wealth of information presented in a warm, stratighforward way. There's so much in it to help guide you to opening yourself up where you need it and to expanding your knowledge of yourself. I practice some of the exrciese and meditations daily and refer to it often.

What a mish-mosh
This book is a New Age muddle of incorrect assumptions about buddhism and various aboriginal belief systems.This author doesn't get ANY of it quite right.She takes bits and pieces from different religious or philisophical traditions and sticks them together with bits of cellophane tape.I've seen collages made by kindergardeners that made more philisophical sense.

The Tarot Handbook
Of the 9 tarot decks I have this is the one I use. Many decks are strongly masculine, and a few are strongly feminine. Angeles Arrien has a nice balance of masculine & feminine.She covers the traditional "doom & gloom" cards in a way that helps look at the information presented and use it in day-to-day living.For me this isn't a divination system as much as a way to get in touch with one's own inner workings and live more fully. My recent purchase was the fifth or sixth replacement after giving mine to friends.We have three in the house as no one wants to share.

Excellent
When I first got this book I was hesitant to read it. I bought almost all the books on the Thoth deck and they all seemed like the same- just more interpretations of the cards. But then as I actually read them all they all had interesting spreads, even if it was just a lot of contradictory or roughly the same meanings. This is one of the better Thoth books and easy to read as each card only has a few pages to its name, and the minor arcana only one page each card. While I view Crowley's own Tarot Divination and Book of Thoth (especially Book of Thoth) as the best choice and wisest of all the Thoth tarot books because he's the one that made it and he attempts to conceal the mysteries of the cards with arcane, poetic and cryptic writings, he ironicly never really gave the user of the deck any way of actually using the cards. When I got Crowley's own Tarot Divination and Book of Thoth I still didn't really know how to use the cards. Now I'm close to being an "expert" and definately proficient at the deck and all tarot careds. If you really want to use the Thoth deckfor personal, ritual, recreational or group/coven use, but at least a couple books on the Thoth deck like this. The Thoth deck is popular enough to have a lot of books on it. Have fun with your use of the tarot and don't approach it too seriously.

Outstanding
The Thoth tarot deck was the first one I ever bought many years ago, and despite Crowley's dubious reputation in some quarters, I still find it to be the most compelling and to contain the most symbolism.Though I have dozens of other tarot decks, many of them beautiful and fascinating, I always return to this one.

Practical Uses for the Five Universal Shapes
I recommend this book to artists who are interested in finding out ways to express their personal vision.Expanding on Arien'sinitial exercise of arranging the five shapes, one can developimages that come from the center of one's life rather thanfrom outside influences.It goes without saying that a person feels better when he/she understands why he/she feel more comfortable (or uneasy)with certain aspects of their lives.This simple book can help a person to know and understand where they are in life and how they might have gotten there.I go back to it every few months and use it in teaching art classes and in art retreats.

Angeles Arrien is a gifted teacher.
Once again Angeles inspires and soothes my soul with her beautiful and powerful writing. This book is a treasure and I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in the language of the Universe.

A Coffe Table Book
What an important subject, richly presented and beautifully researched. I've been curious about the muses for a long time. The meta subject is spirit--that which inspires us. She includes text, pictures, quotes and short biographies to create a lively book that can be read for a few minutes or hours. Originally, I checked the book out of the library. I read thousands of books a year so I frequent the library. I like bookstores too but most of the books I buy I end up giving away because I'm a minimalist. This is one book I want to own! I want to go back again and again for inspiration. I'm going to leave it in the living room, because my family and guests will enjoy it too. Good work, Angeles Arrien.

Expected More.
I pre-ordered this book.When it arrived I was disappointed to find a hardcover workbook.I guess I expected more.Borrow this one from a friend.

A Wonderful Introduction to Creativity
I never knew what The Nine Muses really represented. This book has given me the knowledge of not only what each Muse stands for, but how I can apply each of the nine creative ways into my life. It was eye-opening and fun to read. It gave me ideas I never thought of before. I haven't read Angeles' other books, but they must be great if this is any representation. If you have to pack one book.......
Teaching English last year in Japan was a fascinating, challenging and stressful experience.In packing our bags for the year in a foreign culture, I decided to include Margo Adair's book because it seemed to cover all the emotional and spiritual bases a person might need!Indeed, it became my Bible, a touchstone that I read almost everyday.It kept me grounded, resilient and joyful during some strange, alien and demanding circumstances.Margo isn't a flashy flavour-of-the-month mantra mamma - she's been inspiring and assisting people and groups for decades.This book speaks to anyone who wants to get in better touch with themselves and learn from the wisdom within us all.

Accessible Meditation
I have tried different types of meditation over the years with limited success. Basically, I either get bored, tired or spaced out. That is, until I picked up a copy of "Meditations on Everything Under the Sun" and read about apllied meditation. Fabulous!

This is from soundstrue; who are one of the best out there for audio on hard to find world wisdom and workshops from the best known names of current teachers and sages. This is something I added to my libary years ago and really treasure. I study Shamanism and focus on Michael Harner and Sandra Ingermans methods. This Tape set is essential to your libary if you are into symbols and myth also. I wouldnt' part with it! There some deep and profound ideas shared here; about understanding Soul Retrieval. It can only help to grasp the concept. I highly recommend this.
