5-0 out of 5 stars Strong Women Strong Bones
I ha recommended this book to many people and bought it as gifts. i faithfully do the exercises and follow the menus. I even showed it to my dr. It is wonderful for those of us who are older and even the younger since I bought it for my daughter-in-law

5-0 out of 5 stars must have reference book for home library
I took out a number of books from the library including recent releases. Admittedly, I reviewed them from a different perspective than older folks as I'm just over 40.This was the most informative book with relevant information to my age group. Even though I work out regularly and thought I had a pretty good routine, there were plenty of enlightening strength exercises that have never been in my repertoire. That reason alone rates this book superior than others. ... I received this book as a gift. There are quite a few books on this subject on the market and this one is the best. I too could not put it down and finished it in 3 days. 5-0 out of 5 stars GET THIS and GIVE THIS to your favorite women:)
This is my FAVORITE book by Iyanla Vanzant because of:It's size(small enough for your tiny purse), its lack of preach-i-ness and how the index is organized by subject. I feel its a synopsis of all the subjects covered in her other books.I also feel the book is applicable to women of ALL cultures. You can use it as a daily guide or you can use the index to find a subject for which you could use guidance.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book for daily reflection
I can not express how insightful and helpful this book is! It really makes you look deep into the reason(s) why you thought you needed a book of affirmations in the first place. This book is perfect for those "why me" and "I really can't take any more" moments when you feel like life, and everything in it, needs to give you a break. If you're a woman experiencing a lot of change in your life and it seems like you just can't handle another crisis (or is it a crisis afterall?), this is the book for you. I carry it in my purse!

5-0 out of 5 stars Touches a Point
Each time my spirt is down, or I'm going through a situation, I turn to this book.I hold the book in my right hand by its spine, fan the pages with my left hand to stop at randum. The passages I've read, I have felt its deep spirtual feeling and I understand its meaning. Then I reflect on my situation and the passage fits.It helps me to understanding whats going on.It uplifts my spirit to deal with my situation. It give me insight to view my problem from a different angle. It also assures me that what I am currently going through will end.I will get through it.In my view, its a powerfull book.I have read several other books by Iyanla, even watched her talk show (sorry that went off the air), but like the bible, I keep Faith In The Valley near by. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Best Parenting Book I've Read
Harriet Lerner mixes brilliant advice with comic relief. Anybody who has been a mother, or will be a mother, should read this wonderful book.

2-0 out of 5 stars the extended phone call
I read this The Mother Dance in order to "review" a book for a family relationships class. unfortunately, i felt so unmotivated by the authors writing style and lack of factual infromation and studies that i had to skim through it just to be able to finish my paper. Lerner breaks down the book into stereotypical highlights that many mothers come across in parenthood, but does not allow for single mothers or stay at home moms. also this is writen strictly from her vantage point. the majority stories are from the view of a feminist psychologist, who got pregnant later in life and had not really planned to have kids at all. Her testimonials are support for her narrarations and all come from a Heterosexual couples standpoint (which is smart, cause that is most likely who will buy this book). and when she does talk about minorities or underclass mothers, it is to preach about how there are too many social injustices in the world. the flow of the book seems like one never ending phone call, with one woman complaining about her kids, and the other one saying that she's been there too.If i was able to, i would return this book and try to get my money back. if you plan on buysing this, please at least brows through the first chapter at your local library or bookstore before you invest money into it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful enlightening book!
The Mother Dancespoke so clearlyto my own experience of being a mother, including the highs and the lows. I especially loved Dr. Lerner's personal stories. She's one of the few national experts on families who doesn't write from "on high." Best were the parts about how fear and guilt operate once you become a mom. She also writes more clearly and candidly than anybody about exactly what happens to your marriage once a baby comes a long.Lerner writes from the heart, shares her own quirks and struggles and wisdom. She had me laughing and crying. I loved this book, and I gave it to my sister, who loved it as well. What mother wouldn't? ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Emotional Communications--4+ stars
This is a fun pop-psych book with some valuable insights, techniques for releasing negative feelings in relationships, & 100 author-drawn illustrative cartoons. It's a very fast read. His basic premise is that TACT ="Telling the Absolute Complete Truth" will free you from negative emotions. If you repress them instead, you experience "The See Saw Effect--When we push down a feeling, it comes up in our partner."This is an interesting take on projection & repression. The 3 methods to deal with these emotions are: 5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME!! Simple but powerful. Funny!!
This book is so easy to understand, in a humorous way, the intricacies of our emotions. It is hilariously entertaining with cartoons drawn by the author. John Gray, in a playful yet insightful way, shows us all the different styles in which we repress our emotions and act in ways that are not straightforward. It also shows how we keep love from ourselves. I have used this book in my parenting work for many years as a map to emotional fluency for family health. It has been delightfully received as a work of art with some real tools on the road to emotional healing!! Thank you, John Gray!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Very Good
This book is very helpful in understanding yourself and your partner. It is a very easy read and could be mistaken as too "simple" - but the beauty of this book is that it has taken some of the most complex feelings and reduced it to bite size ideas and adorable cartoons.I am a highly educated person and thought the cartoons were brilliant (BS, MS, JD) - some reviewers did not like them? Read this book more than once and learn a lot about relationships.I am really hoping to (educationally smart - relationship dummy). ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars "I sat down and had myself a good cry."
This book, that poem changed my ENTIRE life and still is. For so long people have been thought to believe that crying is a sign of weakness, and for me that was Magnified to the point where anger built up inside of me so much that it poured out in all the wrong times and at all the wrong people... until I read that poem, "Yesterday, I Cried." That poem is so powerful, not just in my situation but it's powerful in relation to life... Crying is HEALTHY!And moreso, it's OK!!!!I won't go into loads of detail, but read the book.... YOu will NOT be disappointed and you won't walk away from it with less, but more. Iyanla Gives such spirtual food to our souls and I really feel that this woman has an abundance of knowledge and just encouragement to give... it's truly a Wonderful thing what she's doing... I know some say hey it's a career hey she's making money... But the bottom line is, that's the cycle of life... but I think money that's spent on improving ones inner self and making it easier to deal with life.. I mean, this is a chaotic world we live in... there's hurt, pain, disappointment, all types of things we encounter and I think dollars spent on building up our Inside to cope with the Outside is money well spent. She has an incredible message to deliver to those willing to listen... Life is more internal than external and it's important that we build our "insides" up so that we can withstand the storms of the outside world... and yes, it is THAT serious. Depression is on the rise and I personally think it's because we don't have enough Value coming from the inside our ourselves... but this is something that we can work on, and this book is just one of the many tools that Iyanla (and others I'm sure) gives us to do so.I am personally a huge fan of Iyanla because I believe in the sincerity and fullness of her message... she's a wonderful relay of imperative messages.

4-0 out of 5 stars CD is Abridged...
I got the CD so that I could listen and read along. I am reading this book for academic reasons and normally do not read these types of books. The CD was to help me if the book got slow to me. The problem is that the CD cuts out sentences, paragraphs, pages (I counted once a 7 page leap), and chapters (Chapter 5 - "What is the Lesson When You Are Poor, Ugly, and Feeling Bad" was completely skipped.) I recommend that if you want the whole story with all of the details, just read the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very powerful, thoughtful book
Heard YESTERDAY, I CRIED by Iyanla Vanzant . . . it is a powerful memoir by the best-selling author (known to regular OPRAH viewers) who has had an amazing and difficult life . . . yet I never got the feeling she was ever painting herself as a victim; rather, it seemed she was writing to help work out her problems . . . and, in doing so, she was showing me how I could work out mine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ready to get practical?
OK, you've bought all the tapes and crammed yourself full of archetypal and chakra concepts. Now, how does it work in practical everyday living? That is always my bottom line--enough theory, already, how does it work? This is a GREAT set of get-real-and-get-moving tapes. I would highly recommend them to anyone who is serious about the Myss approach.

3-0 out of 5 stars Decent but not what I expected
If you already have an extensive Caroline Myss library, no need to purchase this-it's nothing you haven't heard before.I was hoping that it would draw in some new insights into harnessing intuitive powers but it was more of a lecture on "getting over yourself" and a loose interpretation on recognizing your wake-up calls. Although you got to love Caroline Myss-she really de-mystifies mystical journeys and grounds you squarely back into our real world with our real dramas. Do I feel more intuitive as a result of listening to the workshop?-Good question, can't really answer that. The results aren't in yet.

3-0 out of 5 stars Courage & Self Esteem Crucial To Intuition
According to author and lecturer Caroline Myss, intuition is the ability to take multiple systems of knowledge and make sense of them. Courage is a fundamental part to becoming intuitive-that is, taking action based on the guidance that's received. In fact, Myss says that the intuitive journey is actually the journey to self-esteem.

4-0 out of 5 stars Another Dr. Sears book to get "attached" to!
Dr. Sears was the first person to validate my instinctual approach to parenting. He put a name to what came so naturally to me - attachment parenting. There are not many books out there for children that represent our family values; breastfeeding, babywearing, co-sleeping etc. You can always count on Dr. Sears to provide positive images such as these. This book is just another example of his great work. What Baby Needs is a perfect gift for an older sibling when their new baby arrives. It is realistic, positive and educational and written in a way that is ideal for kids to understand. This is definitely another Dr. Sears book to get "attached" to!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book to prepare for a new baby
We've been extremely pleased with this book for preparing for a new baby in the house. I was afraid it would be too much for my 21-month old, but he actually brings it over to have it read to him and sits through the whole thing. He loves this book, and we like the messages it imparts. I'm also extremely pleased that it shows the mother breastfeeding and talks about how baby nurses to get milk "just like you did". Since my oldest only stopped nursing at 18 months, I think that really made a good connection for him. Now that his sister has arrived, he's fascinated when he sees her breastfeeding.
5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect Gift For Big-sibling
I bought this as a gift & was pleased as I read it, before wrapping it up.Shows pics of breastfeeding, baby-sling wearing, Dad helping-out. Great book! I'll give this to Big-Sibling at the same time as I give the new baby gift. ... Read more

Who can help asking "Why?" when they develop a disease? According to theologian and "medical intuitive" Caroline Myss, Ph.D., and co-worker C. Norman Shealy, M.D., who is a physician, neurosurgeon, and expert on pain and stress management, the answer goes further than a medical explanation. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Hmmm...
I was skeptical of this book at first but immediately was drawn into the teachings from two differently disciplined people with one theory. What makes the book seem more credible to me was that Shealy is a medical doctor interested in holistic teaching, while Myss studied spirituality and holistic teaching and applies it to the medical field. More than anything, I saw this book as a great stepping stone to where the medical sciences are bound to go in the coming of our "New" age.I think eventually this book and the ideas presented in it need to be taken (and will be taken)into serious consideration by the medical field, as the examples used were believable and things I have seen myself.3-0 out of 5 stars Interesting?Yes. Believable?Maybe.
While Myss and Shealy's book is interesting and thought provoking in that it introduces novel information regarding the mind-body connection, it lacks the scientific support that would make it entirely believable.Though the book's credibility is enhanced by the fact that Shealy is a medical doctor, there are far too many statements throughout that leave the reader wondering where the information came from and if it is backed by any research studies. Many valid points and theories are presented, however, they tend to be mixed in with very subjective and unsupported material.I would suggest that this book be used as a basic guideline for the current discourse about the connection between emotional, spiritual, and physical health, but that any information be further researched by consulting scholarly works in order to ensure its legitimacy.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Holistic" is Not a Technique
Myss and Shealy make clear that we are at a turning point in the diagnosis and understanding of disease. The trend in medicine to examine the influences of stress has retintroduced us to the knowledge that emotional tension is disruptive to the physical body."...this recognition that human emotions do indeed affect physical health," they write, "has brought the traditional medical world face to face with the fundamental principle of holistic health: The majority of physical illnesses result from an overload of emotional, psychological and spiritual crises." After suffering for many years from acne, dry skin, hair falling out, anxiety disorders, occasional insomnia and hormonal problems like bad pms, I have finally found what the causes of all these problems were; Copper toxicity! After reading Gittleman's book, I had a hair mineral analysis done and my copper levels were 5 times the normal limit! I have been following the advice in this book for 3 months and I feel like a totally new person. A very overlooked problem that could be the cause of many health problems especially for women. Love her!Copper overload will not be everyone's reason for fatigue, of course, but it's possibly true for many people. She explains why the copper/zinc becomes imbalanced and what to do about it.My hair analysis of 8 years ago showed this syndrome, but no one knew what it meant. In fact, it was not considered "abnormal" nor did it merit any red flag whatsoever.I'm feeling better since implementing Gittleman's advice.Easy to do on your own.Copper can be like a toxic heavy metal for some of us.I'm less anxious, noticeably more relaxed. This was great just in itself, even if the fatigue does not improve (but it has, slightly, too).If you think this could be you--Try it! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Stop and smell the roses
In this fast pace world we live in we tend to forget to stop and smell the roses. We live our lives planning our next days activities without truly sitting back and gazing at awe of the world around us at the only moment we know.Despite our best efforts to manage our time we ultimately fail.
5-0 out of 5 stars book review
Excellent content. easy to read and understand allowsme to understand how destructive our thoughts can be, leaving us with emotions that result entirely from our thoughts raise an awareness of our thought process allowing us to contain our emotions hence our behaviour

5-0 out of 5 stars Shows the importance of will power and mental focus
This book teaches readers how to change their mindsets to become more calm and more content. Downplaying technology and material items, the authors suggest controlling your life through your thoughts and actions. The book discusses the mental aspects of simplicity, not specific actions that you can take. It stresses the importance of being autonomous and not using material items as crutches; the book does not address the need for exercise or awareness of your surroundings. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars The Fat Flush Journal and Shopping Guide
Nothing great about this book. Follows the same patterns as many others I have read.Simple common sence guidelines but nothing amazing or new to the readers.

1-0 out of 5 stars mostly blank pages
Be aware that "journal" means lots of blank pages. Not much of a bargain for all that space.Could just as well have been a pamphlet!

2-0 out of 5 stars Journal part OK, Shopping Guide is a joke
The journal content is good, but the book is a typically-bound softcover which does not lend well to journaling (spiral-bound books which lay open flat or fold back are much better). The biggest disappointment was the Shopping Guide section which, according to the front of the book, "features shopping lists for fat-flushing foods". They are merely bulleted lists of foods used in each phase of the plan, grouped by category (vegetables, proteins, etc.)It would have been more helpful to have actual shopping lists by week, based on the plan menus. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Renewed belief in prayer
This book reaffirmed my belief in prayer, and helped me to better understand its healing powers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Where's the Free Will in Prayer Healing?
I'm having a problem. I'm in a dilemma and I'd like to know what you think. I hope you'll let me know. Here's the problem. I kinda take it for granted that we have free will. It seems like some kind of defining characteristic of the human soul. Although we may breathe the same air, and although the same Spirit runs through us, it's our free will that defines our individuality. The Biblical tradition seems to point to our free will. The concept of sin sure requires it. In the Edgar Cayce readings there is the idea there is nothing more powerful than our individual will. On TV it says, "The power of one!" There you have it. 4-0 out of 5 stars Nonlocal mind and the (possible) power of prayer
It's probably tempting to dismiss this book as "New Age" claptrap. That would be a mistake.Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Save your time and your money!!!
I have read natural, alternative, holistic books for many years now, most I have recently purchased through Amazon.I rely on the reviews of others to a great extent so when I received this book and was beyond disappointed with its contents I felt annoyed enough to respond with a review of my own to prevent anyone else from this waste of time and money.I am studying to be a relaxation therapist and taking spiritual counseling courses at the same time and both this book and its predecessor, The Relaxation Response, were included on thebook list for these courses, so I was really expecting them to provide new, exciting, helpful information, maybe expecting them to make some heretofore unmade connections for me? The two elements I guess worth pulling out of this book are 1) It provides a relaxation method, however, even this is not new nor particularly advanced? and 2) It introduces the addition of one's belief as being an element which intensifies the method?....well...duh...The only way that I even allow for these points is sheer kindness and not real honesty about the value found in the book as there is none!Granted the publishing of this book is a little dated but even for 1984 this information was really lame and old.I cannot fathom why these books are still being added to reading list which include books that far surpass the information found here?No personal offense to Dr. Benson but the book reads like sitting in the company of one who has been isolated for a long period of time and in desperate need of company so they bore their guests to tears and won't be quiet. It goes on and on and on with no real substance at all....

5-0 out of 5 stars Straight Forward and Sensible
A good, simple read that's also entertaining. The book discusses the possible effects of adding faith to the relaxation response. It would appear that the original 'relaxation response', while good, has an even more profound impact if coupled with a persons personal belief system. 4-0 out of 5 stars Fascinating as well as Practical
Originally I read this book as a text that I chose as part of a book review assignment I had for a psychology class I was in.For some reason this book really grabbed my interest right away since he was writing about something I knew very little about.Read more
