5-0 out of 5 stars Read this book and keep on re-reading it
Dr Carlson has written many self-help books aimed at helping us to find the stable state of happiness that naturally exists within us all. He has now written this book specifically for those of us who suffer from depression. The book contains practical truths that are so obvious that most of us miss them or at least bypass them in the rush of our everyday lives. If you are suffering from depression this book will help immensely. Richard Carlson will show you how your state of depression is as much perpetuated by your own thinking as it is by any chemical imbalance that may or may not exist. I have read this book at the same time as receiving treatment with an SSRI anti-depressant (Cipralex). While I am unsure if the SSRI has benefited me at all after 6 weeks, I am certain that this book has changed my outlook completely after two weeks and that it continues to do so more and more with each re-reading. If I allow myself to slip back into my old ways of thinking, the severity of my depression rapidly returns. The good news is that it just as rapidly alleviates when I get back on track with my thinking. The book is simple to read and may seem repetitious. However, if you are one of Dr Carlson's target audience of sufferers from depression you should read this book and keep on re-reading it. You will find that on each re-reading something will leap out at you with greater meaning than it did before. I have highlighted many sentences so that I can rapidly re-read them, and have noted down the keywords on the title page. This way I can pull myself back on track quickly. The approach takes some work to put into practice but there is nothing as hard work as being in a depressed state. The hard work, by the way, is only in terms of changing your habitual modes of thinking, it does not involve making lists and analysing things as do many cognitive (i.e. thinking) approaches such as that found in Feeling Good: The New Mood Therapy by David Burns. I have found Dr Burns's book to be of some use also, mainly because it has helped me to identify particular types of cognitive distortion that help perpetuate depressive illness. This enables me to more accurately recognise when I should dismiss my thoughts, as Dr Carlson recommends in his approach. If you are depressed, low, angry, resentful, dissatisfied, unfulfilled, stressed, hurried, fearful or just not happy most of the time then read this book and keep re-reading it. I only wish this book had been available when I was aged twenty rather than forty.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not just for the depressed, but for anyone who thinks...
This is a life changing book. It shows how our thoughts create our perception of life. Our perception of life is our experience of life. It doesn't go overboard and claim their is no objective reality outside our thoughts, as some new age teachings do. However, it does say that it's not the circumstances of our lives, but our reactions to them. It does repeat it's central ideas several times, but sometimes it takes a while for something to sink in. I really liked the chapter on wisdom. My only problem with this book is the subtitle, because I read this book when I wasn't depressed and still got tons out of it. It could be read by anyone who wants to think optimally and discover happiness in life. I am only writing this review, because I have the hope that someone might read it and get solid info about living a better life. Carlson is influenced in his writing by a school of psychology called Psychology of Mind. Psychology of Mind is based on the concepts originally presented by Sydney Banks. I think this is the most clearly writtenof the Psychology of Mind books. However, if you read this book and like it I would reccomend any of the books from the Psychology of Mind authors (e.g Wisdom Within by Roger Mills, Divorce Is Not The Answer by George Pransky). Also check out Sydney Banks website and books.

5-0 out of 5 stars A time honored classic
I am a Mars Venus Counselor in the Boston area. I teach it, I know it, I love it, but the real story is that people who have read this and other Mars Venus books find amazing relevancy in John Gray's ability to share his wisdom. In Mars & Venus on a Date, you have established guidelines that WILL help you to be successful. Enjoy!

5-0 out of 5 stars Another "I wish I would have read this earlier in life!" book
Whether you are new to dating, widowed or divorced and starting to date again, or in your 50th year of marriage - you will be able to gleam something from this book that will impact your life in a positive way.
5-0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly good
I ignored John Gray and his Mars-Venus venture for over a decade because I just could not relate to it. In fact, I thought it was stupid. But one day, he won me over. His approach toward love, relationships, and in this book, dating, is so strangely refreshing. Among a sea of dating books advocating game-playing and settling, Gray emphasizes love and finding one's soul mate. In this book, he explains the 5 stages of dating and how going through these stages provides the setting for recognizing when you've found your soul mate. He also explains the different kinds of attraction (physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual) and how they happen in a different order for men and women.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not for everyone
This is not an easy book to read, but for the spiritual seeker it can be stimulating and rewarding. Goswami is an expert at quantum physics and explains how it helps to reveal spiritual phenomena. His explanations are clear but also tedious. He answers practically every question that can be anticipated; however,in doing so he risks losing all but the most determined reader.
5-0 out of 5 stars THE AHAH! BOOK
I was about four years old when I discovered that things die, and the outrage that I felt at this news has fueled a fifty year search to understand what we're doing here. This is not my only literary quest, but it is a big one, and it has taken me all over the map. When I studied relativity and quantum physics in college, I saw - 'through a glass darkly' - that this was an important piece of the puzzle, but real understanding eluded me. I just bought the The Visionary Window, and I knew almost immediately, that this, for me, was the Ahah! book - the one that brought all the pieces together. I recommend it highly.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hold a Webster with you for this
Although the book seems to be sincere effort in terms of the treatment of subject, but the language is too tricky with very very esoteric terminology used. Also the use of word 'quantum' seems to be too casual and thus the terms such as 'quantum monad' seem too ambiguous. Perhaps when Mr Goswami has finally reached some perspective about 'truth', he will realize that any truth that can be expressed, ceases to be 'the truth'. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Approaches mental aspect of golf uniquely.
I think this is a good book on golf on the mental side. However, I don't agree with that a golf swing just disappears. With the proper technique, the effective golf swing will not disappear.I also like the book he had written many years ago called Creative Visualization--great mental imagery. In addition, I found Patrick Leonardi's book titled:
5-0 out of 5 stars A nice change of pace for a golf book
The game of golf in my opinion is 50% mechanics and 50% psychological. Golfers tend to get sour when they over-analyze everything from the swing to the short game. It is just as important to learn to relax and enjoy the game. Chopra brings this point home. Enjoy the game with its ups and downs as you would the game of life.

5-0 out of 5 stars Profound reading!A 'must-read' for doctors and everyone!
This is a phenomenal and shocking book which everyone should read, especially and including doctors.Parasite related disorders (and there are many) in North America are skyrocketing, contends the author Ann Louise Gittleman, and has become a hidden epidemic and cause for much mis-diagnosis.Since 60% of U.S. households alone have either a dog or a cat, the chapter on pets titled 'Mans Best Friend' is worth your attention alone. You will never let your dog kiss you (lick your face) again!Of course, parasites can invade your body in a myriad of ways ignored by most people, whether you have a pet or not, and can live inside you for up to 30 years and cause many symptoms and discomfort, or worse.Ignore this book at your peril.

4-0 out of 5 stars What you don't know could make you sick - or worse
Ann Louise Gittleman is doing all she can to raise awareness of the danger of parasites in our lives; it is, she argues, a silent epidemic. We've all heard of outbreaks of E. coli and the like, but such disturbing stories quickly fade away from the public consciousness. Most people don't want to think about all the really nasty things that might be oozing their way throughout their bodies.Gittleman clearly makes the case, however, that parasites are a growing danger, and the fact that many medical professionals aren't especially knowledgeable about the subject only exacerbates the problem.Few medical students take a single course on parasitology, she says, because such courses are usually found under tropical diseases - and we in the United States still tend to think that parasites only affect the lives of those in impoverished and/or tropical nations.Gittleman's objective in writing this book (now available in this revised version) is to educate everyone, layman and medical professional alike, on the extent of the parasite threat.By doing so, she is able to offer advice and guidance on protecting yourself from the myriad of invisible threats parasites pose.
5-0 out of 5 stars parasite paranoia
I enjoyed the information in this book. It points out the numerous ways we are getting parasites inside our bodies, what they are doing to us, and how they affect us in so many ways. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This book worked for us!
Before our son (now 7 1/2 years) was born, I read all the major baby books carefully. But none of the advice on putting the baby to sleep worked. His disposition was evident in the hospital: he was serious and irritable although he was not a colicky cryer. He would not sleep unless held, nursed or rocked, could not be put down, and got overstimulated by almost anything. We got rid of his expensive crib, stroller, playpen, and swing almost unused. At 3 weeks old my sister-in-law gave me this book and it just worked. My son slept with us and was carried in a sling almost constantly. He is now a highly independent first grader who excels academically, is a voracious reader, creative and his own person. He requires very clear and structured discipline and routine which we started early because the Sears book warned that high need babies are usually high need children (I recommend Setting Limits with Your Strong Willed Child, and Raising Your Spirited Child).I would have thought the high need child business was just psycho-babble until this wonderful boy landed in our home and after talking to parents who have a first, second, or third child like him.Unless you've been in the shoes of a parent with a kid like this, you have no idea.We now have baby twins and all the stuff in the regular baby books works and life is easier. After a lot of soul searching and rereading and talking to other parents, my husband and I decided to practice attachment parenting (modified somewhat--our babies sleep mostly in cribs since 6 months and love their stroller) now out of choice not necessity. There are some people who would never practice any advice in this book--the recent norms in our society are so deeply entrenched (which I believe causes the low breastfeeding rates)--but read it and make your own judgement and don't listen to people who say you'll ruin your kids, you won't.Find what works for you and trust your instincts and remember this stage passes quickly. You only get to love and hold babies for a short time before they're off and running.

2-0 out of 5 stars Attachment Parenting Ruined My Life
As a first-time expectant mother, I thought the idea "Attachment Parenting" sounded nice; a gentle, devoted approach to mothering, and one I could provide as a stay-at-home parent.
5-0 out of 5 stars It openes my eyes on my baby.
Yes, this was my first book by dr. Sears and it helped me a lot. I was reading it while my little one was asleep in my lap and I found out that she was a normal baby with needs and not a monster who needed to be taught who is in charge. As a new mom and without any friends or support I felt so inadequate in this new motherhood thing. I was scared to spoil my baby and overdo things but this book brought me an insight and gave me a lot of confidence in what I was naturally doing.

Fitness is a lifetime commitment, but you can accelerate results and transform your body in 12 weeks, says Bob Greene, best known as Oprah Winfrey's personal trainer. Not for the "move a little" crowd, this program is intense and challenging, whatever your starting level. "It's a bit like boot camp," Greene acknowledges. 4-0 out of 5 stars 12 Punishing weeks of kick-butt work!
This book is very similar to another book the author wrote about fitness and dieting. The format is the basically the same with the first 60 pages covering emotional eating and the psychological aspects of dealing with food. The last 30 pages is a survey of current diets such as Atkins, Weight Watchers and others. The middle of the book includes a lot on specific weight-lifting exercises and aerobics. A concept I really like is the 5 Simple Eating Rules, which can be harder than you think. I also appreciated the very descriptive tables outlining the whole 12 week program of exercises. I gave 4 stars because I could have done without the emotional eating and diet survey sections. All that said, it's well written and motivating.

1-0 out of 5 stars BORING AGAIN
I know exactly what another reader means here, but it seems to be the norm of using the same words for the relaxion, but throwing in a few words for whatever the title of the CD claims to be. It doesn't do guided imagery justice, which works very well with some other authors.

5-0 out of 5 stars Helps to heal
I used these CDs for healing after a surgery and they were very useful to me.I didn't know if they would actually work, but I felt that they did. They made me more aware of what was going on in my body (and soul) and so made me more aware of how I could heal.I recommend them.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not very impressive and redundant....
I didn't think this CD set was a good value. There are a lot of other products in this genre and I don't think this particular one is up to snuff.

I've purchased several S.S.B. books in the past because I love her work, but I was frustrated with these books because they were exclusively picture books that revealed nothing about the artist herself or the life she was living. 5-0 out of 5 stars A Comprehensive Review of the Artist and her Unique Talent

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Read.... Read slowly
My pre-marital counselor suggested I read this. I had difficulty establishing intimate relationships and had been used to keeping my relationships shallow. This may work with co-workers and friends, but when marrying someone, it is very essential to develop a real emotional connection with your mate. This is something I couldn't fake. After reading this book, I began to change the way I looked at all relationships and have been made comfortable letting my guard down and allowing people I love to get to know me at a deeper level. This is a great read. Read slowly, so that you can absorb!
5-0 out of 5 stars Recommended by boyfriend's shrink
Thoroughly enjoyed reading this aloud together (in bed). Lots of apply-able concepts, excellent illustrations from real people. Provides insight & understanding - the keys to getting along! Contrary to the title, its not all about sex - its 100% more about Connecting Well in relationships that are of import to you. I learned that "distancing" from my family is not due to lack of care but due to an overintensity of emotion & reactivity to it & high anxiety because our relationships are so explosive.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Classic for Understanding Relationship Dynamics

5-0 out of 5 stars Quintessential Iyanla
I had read several other books by Iyanla before I started with this one and I have to say that I have never read another book that give's one so much information and yet is so accessible. Iyanla has a way of making seemingly esoteric issues very relatable and very understandable, and very easy to apply to your everyday life. "Acts of Faith" is definitley in that vein. I would also recommend 'Until Today' by Iyanla which I believe is a more developed version of 'Acts of Faith' in that the daily passages are longer and she give daily affirmations and activities to complete on each day.

This book has inspired me.I have found several meditations that apply whole heartedly to my life.I have retyped and copied several of the quotes and taped them to my refrigerator or put them on my bulletin board at work. This is a book I needed years ago.Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Supports the CO not the SLEEP!
I am so glad I read this book because it helps me feel OK about our family bed. HOWEVER I was hoping for some ways to get our baby to sleep better but solutions are sorely lacking. For those I found another Sear's recommendation: The No-Cry Sleep Solution, which supports cosleeping but also offers ways for everyone to get better sleep. If you want your family bed validated this is a great book.

5-0 out of 5 stars about that one star review
**Dr. Sears's strongly suggests: "if you resent it, change it."He also addresses the fact that actual BED sharing does not always work and that there are many other ways to "share" sleep with your child/ren.I highly recommend this book (and the rest of the Dr. Sears Library) to any and all parents of babies and children of all ages.

5-0 out of 5 stars Life changing information
I recommend this book all to my clients and friends. It is a must read for parents who honestly want to be the best parent to their children and who really want to show up in this life as the best they can be. I always keep a few extra copies on hand to give away.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you want to FEEL different -then do the Process!
I did the Hoffman Process almost three years ago and have referred many people to it since then.I can, with an open heart, honestly say that doing the Process was the biggest gift I could have ever given myself, my parents and all the people I love.If you have a voice within that is searching for something and you just don't know what it is -then consider the Process. The only way I can describe it is as the imperative missing link to the million piece puzzle that made up me and my life. The Process is loving and very powerful and was the key to organic lasting change for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hoffman Process extracts the psychic scream/root of pain
Have you ever noticed that no matter how much you know ... it doesn't make a difference? Have you struggled with very long-standing childhood-based hurts that no amount of seminars, workshops, support groups, or counselling has been able to help resolve 100%?

2-0 out of 5 stars Comments from the spiritual reviewer
Chopra tells us "there is a fundamental mystery to the soul, that its integrity is not violated by merging with another person. The blending of two spirits brings more to the union than each person started with." (pg 158)This idea is thousands of years old, predictable, and still very popular. But if spirit is already whole, perfect, and needing nothing, how could it be made more perfect by merging with another?Chopra further asserts that "when they are fully committed in love, the husband sees God in the wife and the wife sees God in the husband." (Pg 160) Yet for many people romantic relationships distract from and substitute for God.This fundamental problem is not addressed.5-0 out of 5 stars Full of insights about the Self, Love, and relationships
Being unfamiliar with the writings of Deepak Chopra when I first got this book, I didn't think, judging by the size of it, that it would take me that long to read, or that I would have any trouble understanding some of the concepts that were presented to me.Boy, was I wrong. This book is so full of knowledge that you will have to read it a couple of times to get the full understanding of what the author is saying. Not that this is by any means a bad thing.I have been reading the Conversations with God series on and off for about five years now, and every time I read it I learn something new.It is quite similiar with this book.Like anything, though, you have to approach it with an open mind, otherwise the overall message of the book will be lost.Still, it provides many unique insights into what love actually is, how to attain bliss within a relationship, and several meditations that will help you achieve what the author is talking about at the present time. For instance, when talking about how the ego influences needs within a relationship, a meditation will be presented to you whose purpose is to try to chip away at the ego. 5-0 out of 5 stars Journey of Self into the Path of Love
This book should be mandartory to read. Chopak walks us through a light that we all have within us but so few of us truly find. A Path of Love is not a religious book nor self help, in my opinion. It is a philosophy that we all have yet many of us tread the earth feeling lost. Love and spirit joining with the centre of our beings...our hearts. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Protecting Yourself From the Irritations of Life
How do women become so wise and resilient? And why do we sweat the small stuff so much? Is there some balance, some moment when you realize that most of it is all small stuff? 4-0 out of 5 stars Happier Women
This cheerful book aims to make us stop and smell--if not roses--whatever is sitting in front of our noses. It is just like the other series of "Don't Sweat" books but with a women-minded twist. It offers meditations designed to make us appreciate our lives, keep our emotions in perspective, and cherish other people. I also highly recommend "Open Your Mind, Open Your Life: A Little Book of Eastern Wisdom" by Taro Gold. If we all followed the guidance in these books, we would be happier, more harmonious women.

2-0 out of 5 stars Lightweight Advice
Well-meaning, I suppose, but very lightweight advice. Take a hot bath. Breathe deeply. Drink decaffinated tea. Please. Nothing new here. A nice little book for someone who's pretty oblivious to the world around them. Sorry to be jaded; but nothing here that would seriously stop the sweating! Maybe it would stop mild perspiration, but not real sweat! ... Read more
