Editorial Review

God is not a person or a thing but rather a process, according to world-renowned author and spiritual leader Deepak Chopra. The purpose of this ambitious book is to assure readers that anyone can engage in this process--"it isn't a matter of faith, religious teaching, innate goodness, luck or some other mysterious factor," Chopra explains. "Our brains are hardwired to find God." This hardwiring is deftly explored as Chopra lists the seven ways humans know God and how they correspond to the anatomy of our human brains. He devotes a chapter to each of the seven visions of God: "Protector," "Almighty," "God of Peace," "Redeemer," "Creator," "God of Miracles," and "Pure Being--I am." In every chapter he asks and answers the same questions for the readers: "Who am I?" "How do I fit in?" "How do I find God?" The format works well, helping to tame this broad discussion while also illuminating the different personality types that are attracted to these seven different visions.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A subject beyond words, until Chopra wrote about it
The beauty of the book is how Chopra wrote it for everyone. We are all spiritual beings following a spiritual path. And it is the same path.Whether Chopra is a multimillionaire or not makes no difference (he is).Whether he has a multitude of critics makes no difference either (he does).I have a few cautions for the reader and then hopefully I'll convince you that the book is worth reading.
5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful
This book is an amazing explanation of how we as human beings percieve God, and it gives brilliant insights on how to get in closer contact to the true essance of God. I was skeptical of reading this book partly due to the title. "How does Mr. Chopra know how to know God!" I thought. But I was amazed how practicle this book was. Anyone who is serious about knowing the true nature of God should get this.

2-0 out of 5 stars Concocted Wishful Thinking
My mother recently ordered this book by Mr. Chopra and was urging me to read it. She spoke very highly of it and told me that he used science to prove God and such, etc. Allow me to be upfront. I am a skeptic, and a firm Atheist. I do not believe in the backward illogical concept of God that most religion would scare you to believe in. But I decided to keep an open mind, as I always do, and I read Mr. Chopra's "How To Know God" from cover to cover.

Editorial Review

This spiral-bound journal, conceived by Sarah Ban Breathnach, is designed to encourage writers to explore their life stories and unleash dormant creativity. Every two-page spread is exquisitely bordered by a wood print leaf pattern and includes a sage little quote to set the mood or beckon the muse (such as "People who keep journals have life twice." --Jessamyn West). The large format (11.25 by 9.75 inches) gives writers plenty of room to scrawl down their thoughts and even offers ample space for adding personal artwork or gluing in cut-out images. Several pocket folders are bound into the back for carrying clippings, postcards, or dry leaves--whatever whimsy dictates. Because it is spiral bound (with a sturdy wrap-around cover), writers can lay the book flat while at work--a major convenience.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Very enjoyable
There isn't too much writing in this book actually. It revolves mostly around making series of collages from amgazine clippings, etc around different self discovery themes. This is a refreshing change from the usual "Write, write, write!" I found that I felt MORE creative and very relaxed. It's a fun return to the "paste and scissors" free-for-all of your early school days.5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
But what is twaddle again? Guess you have to be from VA to know.....

5-0 out of 5 stars The Illustrated Discovery Journal
As an Art student,I have discovered the power of creating through collages. It is an easy way for everyone to be artistic regardless of drawing or painting skill.Your creations can speak to you in a verypowerful way and give you insight that would not otherwise be so easilyaccessed.I highly recommend this book for fun and discovery. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Plea for Openness
This book describes the process of research through improvised scientific techniques designed to determine whether mediumship has any legitimacy. The easy answer of skeptics like Michael Shermer, Ray Hyman, James Randi, and the like, for all mediumship claims, is that they must be the product of "cold reading."That is, they are certain that there is no way such claims can be legitimate because they, first, do not believe in life after death (a beginning assumption), second, fall back to the position that "extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof," and that no matter what evidence is placed before them, it will never be sufficient under that criterion, third, they assert that mediums play a parlor game with subjects by making general claims based on probabilities, and twist the responses, look for suggestive clues, and feed back to the subject just what the subject wants to hear.
5-0 out of 5 stars Opens your eyes
The author wrote the book to address our intellect, not our emotions. There is nothing "misty" and "spiritual" about his writing style or his facts. He is a scientist who, with professional hoax-exposers (hired to spot any funny business or "magic tricks"), put five psychic mediums through a series of tests to either prove or disprove their claims that they communicate with the deceased. Then they tested the results against a control group of non-psychics, and reported their findings.

5-0 out of 5 stars At home therapy
If you think that you might benefit from "therapy", listen to these programs.A large part of the effort of therapy is getting an individual to open to themselves, to see themselves as they really are, as a precursor to making changes in their life.Caroline Myss's recordings of "Energy Anatomy" and "Advanced Energy Anatomy" open the door to that introspection, giving you a framework in which to see your past life, and present actions.True, you may not agree with everything she says. But I guarantee you will find yourself nodding in agreement over and over again, at the insightful ways she presents the workings of human minds and emotions. And you will find Caroline Myss offering you answers to many of the questions you've asked yourself ("Why do I do this?""Why did I do that?") over the years.I'm not recommending you forego therapy, if you really need it.Professional therapy can be very valuable. But I am saying that Caroline's recordings are a terrific way of getting in touch with yourself, and seeing yourself clearly (maybe for the first time), regardless of whether you want to pursue professional counseling, or not.And because (as Caroline says) the mind and emotions are prime determinants of the health of the body, this is an excellent series for anyone interested in taking good care of their body, and creating the best health possible for a vibrant and very happy life.

2-0 out of 5 stars Condescending
I listened to the first Energy Anatomy set and loved it, so I bought the Advanced set.I was disappointed. There is less actual material, more pontificating.Fewer real life stories, more bold, brazen and mostly unusable assertions.Above all there is far less charm, humility, humor and humanity.Myss must have a clientele of new-age noodle heads who enjoy being berated.Or maybe she's just sick of her audience. But she says a lot of things like "you have no idea what the consequences of any action will be, and your foolish to think you do".Well, if that were true, getting from your bathroom to your car in the morning would be impossible, right? She says "you have absolutely no idea how much you've been influenced by the social mind."Well, actually I've given this quite a bit of thought, Carolyn, but then you wouldn't know that because YOU HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA who I am.5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic, life changing and insightful
Caroline's wisdom is remarkably shared with examples that I can understand and encompass. This is not my first Caroline Myss tape, but it has helped me more than I can write.I'm from a family of "victim" archetypes and I have a tendency to overspend when I'm letting my "child" archetype have control of my thoughts.Caroline's tapes have helped me make positive changes in my life that I would have taken years to even comprehend before these tapes.Buy the CD version because you will want to listen to the lessons over and over. ... Thich Nhat Hanh is one of my favorite authors. This book is such an easy read.....I started reading it in the morning and finished it that day! This book will help you have a better understanding about prayer, it can help you improve your own prayer life, and it can help you realize things about prayer that you might not have thought of before. This is excellent! You will be revived and refreshed from reading this.It can definitely help you grow in your prayer life.Prayer is powerful!

5-0 out of 5 stars Om. Peace.
The cover photo itself (that of a monk bent in prayer) speaks volumes about the contents of the book - that of prayer, prayer and prayer. In the likeness of books on prayer by Thich Nhat Hanh, this one seeks to uncover the benefits of meditation as prayer. The author proposes many benefits and (if one is to believe) all peoples in the world, regardless of race, language or religion, should allow themselves the benefit to sit in silence, meditating either in silence, with a chant, with words from Scripture, or with concentration on the breath. The latter, when done with full concentration, is able to nourish and to heal the mind, body and spirit. The author provides various exercises on how to meditate using the breath at the end of his book. I believe some of these exercises have been covered in his other books as well.

3-0 out of 5 stars An important word on the "American Council for Science and Health"
I have not read Arnot's book. However, to those reviewers who cite the attacks made against the book by the American Council for Science and Health, you need to know the shaky credentials and corporate sponsorship of that particular organization.Go to their website: there you will find articles saying that pesticide in foods poses absolutely no health risks, and articles saying that vending machines in schools should be allowed to continue selling soda and a whole range of snack foods in the interests of a free market system. This Council appears to be nothing more than a highly-financed mouthpiece for various corporate interests. I have been highly skeptical of any of their "scientific" claims for a while now. Finding out that they do not support Arno's book actually makes me more interested in checking it out myself, so I have ordered a copy.

5-0 out of 5 stars An outstanding resource for those dealing with breast cancer
Having just been diagnosed with a recurrence of non-metastatic breast cancer, I decided to seek out resources that might help me make the lifestyle changes I failed to make after my first episode, in order to prevent yet another recurrence. Since I'm in a doctoral program, I decided to take a course on alternative medicine and immediately began reading the texts, which led to this excellent resource.
5-0 out of 5 stars Better now, than later...
First, every woman I care about, my friends, sisters, mom, etc., will be getting a copy of this book as their next gift from me! Dr. Arnot gives example after example of medical research PLUS lifestyles of women all over the world showing better health than most Americans, revealing what scientists believe attribute to it! Unless every word and Doctor,or school referenced are all liars, this book is a LIFESAVE.Scientist have come a long way. They don't just say "don't eat this, but eat that" and you'll be fine. That's too simple. They know much more than that now and we need to take advantage of that. If they say breakfast is important, always eat SOMETHING,than that's what we should do! Ifyou want a fiction book,or an easy fix, or if you want to ramble about how research in mice has little to do with humans, than keep fooling yourself. I'll take all the help a reputable doctor or scientist or medical college wants to give to prolong my life AND give me GOOD HEALTH at the same time. Many of us ae having our children late in life.My youngest was born when I was 38.I've got to live a long time to be there for her.My mother had me at 18!She's 70 now and I love having her around.I trust there is nothing in Dr. Bob's book that will hurt me -- but that will only help me. Should I still go to the doctor?OF COURSE!!!I have been getting yearly mamograms for 15 years, and only this year did I have a a small spot.I'm to get another exam in May 2002.I'm worried. They think it's nothing and say MOST OF THEM ARE BENIGN. What if i'm one of those woman not so lucky? I am not sure about Soy Isoflavones (the dosage) although Dr. Bob talks about it.Thanks, and KEEP READING!!... ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Women's orgasms aren't important
I have been reading this book out loud to my BF, who now worships Dr. Gray as it should be titled, "Why women should give men sex all the time".
2-0 out of 5 stars Well intentioned advice for men; women not included.
Dr. Gray must be a wonderful lover. As a woman I read his hints and suggestions for a man's love making technique and marvel at his insight.I truly could not have imagined a man so aware of what a woman really wants in the bedroom. However there are no corresponding ideas for a woman geared to improviing her skills as a lover.By maintaining a position of gallant "ladies first" mentality he, in truth, is demeaning the power of women's sexuality.
2-0 out of 5 stars Very dissapointed
I wasn't expecting this book to somehow transform my sex life, but I certainly didn't expect the garbage I read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best book on potty training.
This book and "My Big Boy Potty" are the best books I could find on potty training.Realistic situations addressed.
3-0 out of 5 stars Not the Best Book Out There
Many of this book's positive qualities have been discussed already, but I will mention my favorites again: I like the simple pictures (which we all know will hold a toddler's attention better than more detailed drawings), the fact that the child in the book could be either a boy or a girl, the sidebars with answers to questions that undoubtedly will pop up ("Where does poo-poo come out?" "Why won't my poo-poo come out?"), the "tips for parents" on potty-training, and the fact that the child in the book is not punished for having an accident and not making it to the potty in time. And I love the fact that the potty in this book looks like a modern training potty, rather than a lemonade pitcher! This is a very loving book with two very loving parents and happy-looking older siblings.

5-0 out of 5 stars I was surprised that this is such a good book
When I see Suzanne Somers I just see Chrissy from Three's Company and all that snorting and dumb blonde-ing!I never paid any attention to any of the Suzanne Somers books because I figured this was just another celebrity attaching their persona to something. My library happened to have this on the shelf and since I had some time to kill while waiting for my daughter to pick out her books I decided to flip through the recipe section since I knew it was a low carb type of diet and I do atkins.I was very interested at what I saw so I checked it out.I have been totally shocked at how easy and terrific her ideas are and in fact her philosophy is quite interesting too.I am really impressed.I have a totally different viewpoint now of Suzanne Somers.I love this recipe book so much I had to buy it so I"d have a copy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book, great recipes!!
My husband & I just started the South Beach diet.Since Somersizing is a very similar concept (similar to Atkins too), I thought I'd check out these recipes. The book explains the concept of cutting out sugar & sugar forming carbohydrates (anything containing white flour). I looked into the other somersizing books & this one really has the best recipes. So far I've only tried a few & they were very delicious. The cream cheese pancakes & balsamic dijon chicken are yummy.I also bought Somersweet, some of the recipes call for it, but you can use Splenda or other sweeteners instead. All of the recipes in this book are appealing as well as healthy. And they are fast & easy to make. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Finally, an Indian Kama Sutra!
There are some Indians who look down on authors who choose to retell classical works of Indian literature--in particular, works seen as 'Hindu' in content. Perhaps it's a colonial hangover--the old 'British knew best' attitude that continues to plague the English-speaking urban elite even today. But speaking for the growing number of people like myself who hunger to rediscover the richness of our heritage and past, I can honestly say that our interest in the classics has nothing to do with things like Hindutva, Ram Mandir, and all that political claptrap! Just as one respects and loves one's mother and finds 'her story' fascinating--because her story is also our story--so one delves into 'history' as well.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fresh New Version of the Classic
With this latest book the well-loved and popular mind-body guru Deepak Chopra lends his take on the spiritual messages of this ancient text to craft a modern interpretation of the Kama Sutra; one very well suited to the Western mind.
5-0 out of 5 stars Spectacular artwork and helpful commentary by author
Even though most of us would be uncomfortable leaving a book which so boldly celebrates our sexuality out in the open, this book is so beautifully done that you might be tempted to leave it on the coffee table. The artwork is spectacular. At first I was so struck by the beauty and sensuality of the artwork I didn't do much reading, just paging through enjoying the images - even images of lovemaking which would normally shock or embarrass me seemed beautiful and natural.Okay, some still seemed shocking, but in the back of my mind lurks the possibility that within the context of a loving relationship there is purity and godliness within those erotic acts and images.Could that be true?

5-0 out of 5 stars Teaches Lifelong Health and Openmindedness about Trying New Foods
This book educates your child about the health level and quantity-intake of different foods, using the traffic light gradations of red, yellow, and green.Even today, after reading this book to my 4 1/2 old daughter since she was 2 1/2, she will pipe up and say, "Hey, this is a green light food, Mom!"We also use some of the recipes listed towards the end of the book, especially our own version of a balanced fruit smoothie.
5-0 out of 5 stars As straightforward as it says: Eat Healthy Feel Great
-Puts the revised 2005 Food Pyramid designers to shame withits straightforward, clear approach (versus the revised pyramid 'stripes' that are supposed to indicate how much of each fod group to eat but who can figure it out at a glance?)
5-0 out of 5 stars Building Good Nutritional Habits
What a wonderful resource for parents who are trying to "do the right thing" -- to teach their children healthy eating habits in the midst of a society that promotes the fast, processed, and packaged. Dr. Sears categorizes food into green light/yellow light/red light groups, and it's a concept my children (ages 2, 4) readily understand. The text is simple and clear, and the message is presented in a fun way. This book would be a big help to any parents interested in changing their families' eating habits for the better. There are parts in the book that are just for parents: they explain nutrition, as well as make suggestions on how to incorporate more "green light" foods in the family's meals. My children enjoy this book. They ask for it by name -- we've read it dozens of times. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An enriching and rewarding self-teaching guide
The collaborative effort of Caroline Myss and Dr. Norm Shealy, The Science Of Medical Intuition: Self-diagnosis And Healing With Your Body's Energy Systems is an impressive and "user friendly" collection of twelve 60 minute lessons on audio compact discs that guide the listener in the process of approaching self-care and improved health through developing personal intuition. Inducting the reader into learning about chakras, creative visualization, guided imagery, the power of thought, and much, much more, The Science Of Medical Intuition is an enriching and rewarding self-teaching guide to extending personal awareness into scientific and metaphysical realms alike. The Science Of Medical Intuition would make a welcome and highly prized addition to dedicated Alternative Medicine and Metaphysical Studies collections.

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Worth getting if you relate to Caroline Myss.
This is the most involved CD and Workbook set from Caroline that I have ever had the pleasure of owning. It is a very detailed tool box, and one that will provide hours of opportunity for self-reflection and awareness. Caroline Myss and Norman Shealy (MD) speak on the CD's. Dr Norm Shealy has some fascinating medical details concerning the visualisations contained within this series and their effect on raising the levels of Calcitonin and DHEA (as well as some other hormones) for example.Read more
