5-0 out of 5 stars MOTHER-DAUGTER WISDOM RESONATES...
...with wisdom and truth. You read her words and know somewhere deep inside that it's true--the connection with our mothers--and the connection with our daughters. This is a wonderful book to give and to receive. Your girlfriends, daughters and sisters will thank you. Sound medical advice and much, much more. MOTHERING-DAUGHTER WISDOM is not only the best in its field, there's little to compare!
5-0 out of 5 stars Dr. Northrup walks her talk!
I always look to see if an author stands in their truth. If they walk their talk.Dr. Christiane Northrup does.I have read all of her books, Women's Bodies, Women's Wisdom, The Wisdom of Menopause and now Mother-Daughter Wisdom. They all embody her path to well-being and her knowledge on the subject of women's health. In her book Mother-Daughter Wisdom, she shares her own life experiences from raising two daughters and her expertise as a medical doctor and relates them to health and wellness.I find this book to be a great tool and guide to help mothers raise empowered daughters and a model for a healthy mother-daughter relationship.I have three grown daugthers and would have loved to have had this book when they were growing up.I found out through much trial and error how to raise empowered daughters.Dr. Northrup is a pioneer in our time venturing into these unchartered waters of how mothers and daughters can have a balanced and loving relationship. She addresses the many challenges in our society today facing girls and gives suggestions on how to deal with them in a positive way.She talks about mothers caring and nurturing themselves in order to care for their daughter. This book is also areference book as Dr. Northrup covers from birth to adulthood for the many stages in a mother and daughter's life.Mothers, men, and women without children, would benefit by reading this book to connect with their own legacy with their mother or if raising a daughter.

5-0 out of 5 stars Life Altering
This is a valuable book for any person where they consider themselves to be well adjusted and no one's doormat, or if they know their self esteem is lacking. The message is not about contemplating the navel but about practical action. This book should come before any other self help book especially weight loss books! Absolutely brilliant!

3-0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly disappointed
I was greatly anticipating receiving my CD and listening to this famous metaphysical woman while I drive the streets of Houston.Unfortunately, I found her voice to be somewhat monotone and boring to listen to.I also found her attitude to be somewhat condescending. I did hear something new which is that our generation is the first that can truly create their own realities.I've haven't even been interested in finishing the last CD of the 4 CD set. I had read her first book and was impressed with the content. I realized I was looking for someone as energized and entertaining as Lynn Grabhorn's CD version of Excuse Me, Your Life is Waiting.Caroline isn't.I realize that not everything out there is for everyone and this audio book just doesn't work for me.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not Just about will power
Myss is very insightful about many things.Though she is continually abusive in her lectures.I have found that people who defend her have somekind of abuse in their past and seem to be taking on the role of defending the abuser.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very insightful
In response to other reviewers, yes, this book does rely heavily on stereotypes of male and female behavior. If you find you don't fit the stereotypes (and of course not everyone does!), then you'll need to look for another book. But for many (most?) of us, the insights and advice in this book will be very helpful. As I read, I was constantly amazed by how much I could see myself and my husband in John Gray's descriptions.Last night I had my first opportunity to try out his techniques on how to prepare a man to listen...and it worked beautifully!A situation that would certainly have escalated into a hurtful argument was diffused into a calm, brief conversation that left both of us feeling warm and loving toward each other.

1-0 out of 5 stars Grrr!
Mars and Venus Together Forever is one of the most ridiculous, stupid books that I have ever had the gross misfortune to read.I probably should have expected what I got, considering that Mars and Venus on a Date left me cold, but I read this one anyway because the original Mars and Venus book had SOME interesting insights and I'm a sucker for a cheap book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wordy, but accurate

5-0 out of 5 stars Very uplifting, great paradigm for living
It's difficult to give enough praise to what Stephen R. Covey does.I love reading his books and almost anyone will benefit from browsing through the different stories about how people had the courage to face their problems and change by engaging in positive behavior. To state the obvious, 'Living the 7 Habits' is an inspiring read.I would urge a bit of caution, however, in that the laboratory of the real world may not cooperate much with a person living the seven habits. On the other hand, Covey never says it's easy and he at least indirectly reminds the reader that incorporating the seven habits into one's life is an enormous amount of work.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
This book is excellent. I'm convinced that the information contained in this book is valid. Not just because the author's provide plenty of relevant scietific information to support the diet, but mostly because after trying the diet plan I immediatedly began to feel healthier. I know there are lots of smart people who might argue against this diet, but I'll listen to my own body before any MD, Phd or whatever. I'd give this book my highest recommendation not only to people who are trying to loose weight, but to people in general.

Editorial Review

Borrowing chakra principles and healing teachings from previous works, Dr. Caroline Myss forms a daily living plan that focuses on making the most of personal energy. Myss questions, chides, and inspires her audience--both audiobook listeners and the production's live studio gathering--to let go of blame, victimhood, and group thinking and take responsibility for their own lives. When she makes rueful fun of her own pre-enlightened state, it's to let her listeners know that they are not alone. Myss backs up her theories with both anecdotal and historical examples, and bolsters the production with a quiet certainty. (Running time: 9 hours, 6 cassettes.) Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended for those interested in the subject
I am very familiar with much of Myss' work... having read (or listened to) many of her books and listened to the majority of her audio works.
5-0 out of 5 stars Self Help Personal Growth and Responsibilities
I found this series to be beneficial to my personal growth and healing.Caroline went into detail about how she applies her technical formal training with spirituality principals to help the novice like me to view the responsibility of self growth and communion with others.I listen to this series again and again, yet, I learn something new about self each time. This series has and continues to help me.People ask me what I am doing as I seem more positive and the only thing I can say I am doing different is listening and reading to Caroline Myss's books.

5-0 out of 5 stars Energy Anatomy: Everything you need to know to turn your life around
Ten years ago a physicist friend of mine gave me the priceless gift of the six-tape set of Energy Anatomy.I was enraptured, for I quickly discovered that Dr. Caroline Myss is an outstanding teacher, beautiful in mind, body and spirit. She seems to relate to each of her audience in a personally uplifting way, both in person, audio and the written word. After more than 50 years of meditating I found that Caroline gave me vitally new information, always adding to my own prior store of knowledge and techniques. At her lectures she seems to hold each participant enthralled.A consumate story teller she teaches by example, giving clear and graphic examples of others having overcome similar adversity or circumstances.

Editorial Review

When you look at the popularity of mind-body medicine today, it's hard to understand what a groundbreaking book this was when it was first published in 1975. Based on studies at Boston's Beth Israel Hospital and Harvard Medical School, Dr. Herbert Benson showed that relaxation techniques such as meditation have immense physical benefits, from lowered blood pressure to a reduction in heart disease. 4-0 out of 5 stars Good...but try to find an older edition.
I originally read The Relaxation Response when I was serving in Somalia in 1993. There was a table of free books donated from the states and the title peaked my interest....given the environment. 5-0 out of 5 stars Stress Relief and Indigo Dreams
This is an excellent book for anyone that wants to understand how stress works and how it hurts the body. Based on fact and research it is presented in an easy to read format. You can turn to any page and get something out of it that will make sense to you. I particularly liked the way Dr. Benson takes the mysticism out of meditation and shows scientifically how breathing, visualizing, muscular relaxation and positive statements will help your nervous system, circulatory system, respiratory system and immune system. This book has been around for 30 years and it's information is still powerful.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for laypersons and practitioners alike

4-0 out of 5 stars Good introduction to meditation
This is a solid introduction to the practice of meditation. The first disc features Weil and Kabat-Zinn giving background information about meditation. The second disc features guided meditations. Like any spiritual practice, the more information an individual gets, the better he or she becomes at that practice. This set of discs is a good starting point that will get a person going into meditation immediately, which might lead the listener to pursue additional materials about spirituality. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Moving on, not the TV show, the book
Absolutely one of the best books I've read in the last 10 years. As a grief counselor, I am painfully aware of how people get "stuck in a rut" and go back to old familiar behaviour. The only difference between a rut and a grave is it's size and the amount of time one spends in it.She has once again given us all something to think about as well as a plan of action that so many people don't really seem to have.As well as change lives, this book will, in this man's humble opinion, undoubtedly save some as well.A must read for grievors, those who have gone through seperation or divorce, and for the rest of us that haven't.... yet.
5-0 out of 5 stars Moving on
The author has never written a book I didnt enjoy. I have seen criticism of this book for repeating content of her previous book(s). I don't know about those critics - but I needed a new updated version' and I got it in this book. Of course, I love all of Sarah's books!

2-0 out of 5 stars Author's credibility in question
This book was really a disappointment. Some passages were lifted verbatim from her other books--which made me feel ripped off. In "Moving On," she describes how the clutter in her house got out of control to the point where she had a psychic specialist come in. The psychic said the house was "weeping." Sarah then found out soon after that her husband was having an affair and the house was "protecting" her with its clutter. That's an interesting enough story--EXCEPT that she told the exact same story in "Simple Abundance," only the person having the cluttered house problem was her friend--not Sarah. So, which story are we supposed to believe?

Editorial Review

What is the meantime? According to author and inspirational speaker Iyanla Vanzant, being in the "meantime" means being in a state of limbo. "Whenyou are not happy where you are and you are not quite sure if you want toleave or how to leave, you are in the meantime," she explains. Rather thanwallow in confusion, Vanzant encourages you to use the meantime as anopportunity to prepare yourself for true love. The first order of business isto clean house, starting with the basement--the place in the psyche where youstore your most destructive thoughts. Room by room, Vanzant takes youthrough a metaphorical cleaning of the soul. This way, when your meantimedays are over and love finally comes knocking on the front door, you'll have aclean house to welcome love into. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Insightful!
Iyanla is very personable. She really makes you stop and think that we are not crazy or wrong, we all just need to believe and trust in ourselves.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poorly written and an even poorer message
My wife and I have been married 11 years, things have been better between us. We both went out and bought books to help with the relationship (or so I thought). After reading the book my wife explained that we should "wait and see". I, at the same time, read the 7 Principles of Marriage. My take was, our relationship is bent not broken, let's try to fix it together. After reading half of "in the meantime" I see where she got her opinion of "action". You have two choices from the book: 1. Do nothing until "inspiration" hits 2. Throw away everything and start over.Either way the book gives no other options or practical examples to move ahead together in a positive way. Don't waste your time and hope to God that your significant other doesn't get a hold of this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Iyanla Vanzant helps you get to the core of life
Iyanla Vanzant speaks mostly about the importance of "living in the now", something we all know but are too busy to practice. She does a nice job too of comparing the Western style of "Doing" as opposed to the Eastern style of "Being." Linking the two cultural aspects could not have been an easy task, and I applaud Ms. Vanznant for having the courage to reach into a women's soul, and to draw out the ugliness that lives there.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the better parenting books......
I thought this was one of the better parenting books I have read and believe me I read a lot of them.I have 3, very active boys, and I am always looking for some good easy to follow advice.I think the author(s) did a great job organizing the book and in the process making it very easy to read, which for a busy mom, I really appreciated.I really like the idea of summary pages at the end of each chapter so that I can refer easily to the most appropriate "skill" to be used in a pinch. When I read this book I felt I was receiving advice from a friend instead of a lecture from a book.I will read this book, I am sure, about 10 more times and I will probably like it even more.

5-0 out of 5 stars Kid Cooperation
Great practical tips for dealing with 2 and 4 year olds.Easy read.Made a difference almost immediately.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great parenting book
I am an avid reader of Dr. Sears books. I try to follow the parenting style he writes about as best as I can. I have almost all his books. The Discipline book he wrote was no help for me. I also tried "1,2,3 Magic" (I think that's the title), but I wasn't that fond of it. Then I read something that suggested this book, so I read it and LOVE it. It is easy to read and has wonderful suggestions on how to handle problems with your children and offers wonderful suggestions on how to handle yourself toward your children. I would suggest this book to everyone, especially to people who like Dr. Sears' books. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Weil Good
I've been into breathing as long as I can remember...uhhhh...that was a joke by the way, you can laugh now...I remember when I was a kid if I hurt myself my dad had me look up at the sky and breathe deeply. Even recently, I just had back surgery and I was having trouble getting comfortable, my dear, sweet, 80 year old "poppa" told me to look up and breathe deeply, and y'know what, it still works.
4-0 out of 5 stars good cd
The first cd in the two cd pack is kind of a waste, Weil reads his book aloud. The second cd is the "meat" of what most of us are looking for in this product, eg guided breathing exercises. I liked the exercises which were explained in a plain, easy to follow manner. I also like the music that he uses to bring one into a relazed frame of mind.

2-0 out of 5 stars Low Calorie, Complex Carb, Low Glycemic Diet Book
Denise Austin's book, if you follow her plan, will help you lose weight. It comes from keeping calories very low (fewer than 1500 a day), eating complex carbs and protein, and exercising. There is nothing here that a person cannot get off the internet for free or in a fitness magazine from the grocery store.Austin has "daily dozen" exercises, which are a cross between yoga moves and calisthenics, and she says 30 minutes of walking a day is also necessary. Duh. She also points out the the Daily Dozen are really for people who are sedentary and not those who already are pretty fit. Another thing that bugged me was that she "tried" the low-carb diet for ONE day and it made her tried and cranky so she KNEW that it was bogus. Well, I'm not saying Atkins is the way to go, but when I went off sweets for a month I wanted to die either by my own hand or someone else's -- I was so miserable with headaches and mood swings that I thought I was hitting early menopause, yet no one would tell me that I should keep eating Hostess Ding Dongs if they make me feel better.
3-0 out of 5 stars Lots of info, not enough good recipes
Denise is great with providing a ton of useful information in this book. The recipes weren't as appealing as I thought they would be. I read the book for the first couple days that I had it, but haven't opened it since. The recipes really did nothing for me to actually attempt to make them.

1-0 out of 5 stars If anyone eats 1300 calories...
you are going to lose weight.I don't care what you eat.I was initially attracted to this book because I agree that eating "no carbs" is a gimmick and nutritionally unsound. But to claim that diabetics can eat small portions of white flour and sugar is like telling an alcoholic they can just have one glass of wine.Irresponsible! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great parenting book
This & all the books in the Dr.Sears parenting library are wonderful! Very helpful with caring, smart ways to make parenting easier. You can really tell that the authors enjoy thier work & being parents themselves.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must-read for every new mother
Thank you Dr. Sears!Attachment parenting has been around since the beginning of time, but we have Dr Sears to thank for bringing it to the forefront of discussion with the many books he has published, which all rally around the belief in AP.This is a must-read for first-time moms, as well as a great book for moms with children. With how our society pushes mothers to create independence in our children from the second they are born, telling us if we don't they will be clingy, whiny brats with the inability to allow us mothers to go on with our own independent lives, Dr. Sears brings us back to the importance of holding, loving and nursing our children, impressing upon us how these are CHILDREN who NEED their parents.I've read this book and now purchased it as a babyshower gift.
5-0 out of 5 stars Decide for yourself about attachment parenting
Before I read this book, "attachment parenting" was just a phrase I'd heard thrown around--with good and bad connotations. This book explains the principles of attachment parenting, the benefits of it, and the challenges. When I reach a time in my life where I'm ready to have a baby, I am definitely going to try out some of these techniques. I already knew I was going to try breastfeeding for at least a year, but now I'll add to that trying out the baby sling and bed sharing.
