5-0 out of 5 stars Great music for relaxation and meditation
I hate New Age music if it uses a lot of synthesized sounds and tries to sound like it's coming from outer space.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good relaxing music, mediocre lectures
The relaxing music on this CD is pretty unique. It utilizes exotic instruments and it seems to me it is being played very much from the heart.I often use this CD when doing yoga or meditating.

5-0 out of 5 stars Life touches Life
I work in an OBGYN clinic where we have patients that go thru this same thing. The book was added to our "library" of resources because I thought it might help someone who had lost a baby and can see there are others going thru this, too.The author wrote from the heart and gave all the details which will be very helpful to someone else who has suffered a loss like this.

5-0 out of 5 stars Eloquent
As a bereaved grandmother of a stillborn girl, I found this account to be absolute magic. The author's use of language is lyrical.I could not wait to contact Lorraine Ash and tell her how moved I was after reading her book. This is the kind of book I would give as a gift to a bereaved parent.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very beautiful and helpful book
We lost our son on Thanksgiving morning (2005), 5 months before his due date. In the days that have followed, comfort has arrived in many forms... flowers, cards, phone calls, food, and books - this one was the best, and its giver's kindness will never be forgotten. If you are grieving the loss of your child (especially through a late miscarriage, stillbirth or infant death), or know someone who is, this is a great book to share. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Lovely book by a loving, experienced mother of 8
I love this book--I just read it, and I have three children. In this sweet little book, Martha Sears explains in easy-to-read terms the basic ways mothers of infants go about establishing a natural, loving relationship where both individuals' needs are met without creating a tug-of-war environment (which is common these days). Throughout the book, she and her husband, "Dr. Bill," encourage moms (and dads) to enjoy their baby, respect that their children are people with physical AND emotional needs from the day they are born, and lend support to the emotional needs and changes that a mother goes through after having a new baby. There are practical applications throughout, and it's a nice introduction to helping mothers set a firm foundation for the new relationship that is taking shape.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful shower gift or gift for new mom!
A friend of mine gave me this cute little book shortly after I had my first baby, and I have really enjoyed dipping into it for short shots of gentle wisdom, inspiration, and advice. It's perfect for a new mom because the chapters are informative but really short--no huge time commitment required. There are 25 chapters--each with a title that's a "thing" that's helpful for moms to realize, like "You can solve breastfeeding problems," "You really do have intuition," "You don't have to be perfect," and "If you go back to work, you'll still be the person most important to your baby." Then the chapter has some information and practical advice related to that topic. For example, the chapter on going back to work includes the great idea of starting back to work on a Thursday instead of a Monday, so your first "week" is very short and easier for both mom and baby to deal with.
2-0 out of 5 stars The Searses, how I dislike you, let me count the ways
Who decided that William and Martha Sears were "America's Top Baby Care Experts?"Perhaps "America's Top Baby Care Book Series Marketing Machines" would be more accurate. Any time people proclaim themselves to be a Top Expert about something, look with a suspicious eye - William and Martha certainly do, at other experts who espouse a different viewpoint than theirs. There are some good things in here, like Martha urging moms to take time for themselves and to remember that you and dad are still husband and wife, even though things are different now.But it's awfully easy for new moms to get sucked into their attachment parenting philosophy, and to believe statements that the Searses present as gospel truth, although there is no research to back it up.I don't recall the "cutting edge research" that the previous reviewer mentioned; instead I remember Dr. Bill saying that if you practice AP, basically you won't have any discipline issues when your child is a toddler because the two of you are so in tune and the child will want so much to please you.Sure, this sounds great to a new mom, but it is such a load of crap.Plus, while they do include a section that says that there is no perfect mother, and that's okay, I feel that they believe anything other than AP will lead to a level of parenting non-perfection that is unacceptable and guaranteed to turn out insensitive ax-murderers.

5-0 out of 5 stars 100 Promises to My Baby
Although I bought this book as a gift, I did glance through the various chapters to develop a feeling of the author's message.
1-0 out of 5 stars Completely Unrealistic
I found this book completely unreaslistic, but what can one expect from an author who was raised in, and continues to live in extreme privilege? I grew tired of reading about Mallika Chopra's life of servants, nannies, and cleaning ladies. I'm quite certain that if all mothers in the world (including those in North America) led lives of such privilege, they too could write books such as these with completely unrealistic expectations about what it is to be a mother. I also did not find anything she said particularly deep, inspirational, aware, thought provoking, or compelling (as other reviewers would lead you to believe).
5-0 out of 5 stars Best Baby Book for the Mind and Spirit
This book really sheds some light on what it means to be a GREAT parent and what it takes to be a great parent. There are lots of wonderful thought and suggestions, yet they do challenge you to carry through on a few. It is a wonderful book and makes a great baby shower gift.It beats the heck out of giving a boring gift certificate. Chopra has opened my eyes not only to what gifts I can give to my son, but it reminds me of all the wonderful gifts that my parents and grandparents have given me.VERY UPLIFTING!!! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars A need to live the questions
There is absolutely no doubt as to Kenneth Ring's sincerity and compassion, as well as his long-term commitment to expanding our understanding of near death phenomena. And we can be very grateful for the courage of people who were willing to share experiences that are so deeply personal. For those reasons alone I could have given "Lessons from the Light" five stars - had it not gone further than this to claiming definitive answers to questions of life and meaning. It is because of the assumptive role of this book that I see the need for a strong note of caution.
5-0 out of 5 stars Comforting, Gripping, and Challenging
I have read a number of works on NDEs and I read Dr. Ring's "Heading Toward Omega" when it was first published. As a clergy person that often ministers to the dying and their families the information shared in "Lessons from the Light" can be helpful within the context of the religious tradition one serves in. Of course, since all of these people came back to this life we cannot generalize about post-mortum existence. However, the compelling information about NDEs will give believers and non-believers an opportunity to reflect on the direction of their lives, the goal of their lives and what really matters in their lives. For the religious/spiritual person such accounts tend to strengthen that deep interior expereince of the Holy One in our midst. For those that deny spiritual existence of any kind the NDE of so many people can at least provoke a willingness to rethink things. Dr. Ring gives us much to pray, think and talk about. I am grateful for his efforts.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Book on Near Death Experiences!A Must Have!!
I purchased this book from Amazon when I came across the title one day, while searching for books about the afterlife. It has been one of the best books that I've ever purchased...and I truly believe that it was intended for me to read it, so I encourage anyone interested in this book/subject to make the purchase!

3-0 out of 5 stars TOO MUCH GOD FOR ME
I bought several sets of tapes for my family gift giving but when I played one I decided to put them in the charity box instead.Far too much religion in it.Self improvement and joy of living does not HAVE to be god related.I am sorry because I really do think she has great talent. If she could just write and leave religion out of it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Jumping Into The Deep End

5-0 out of 5 stars a lifesaver.
I bought this book a few months ago becuase I've been showing symptoms of endometriosis and also have fibroids.I used her herbal formulas and castor oil packs as recommended and my symptoms have improved dramatically.I would recommend this to any woman who's having "female trouble".We really can take our health care into our own hands, contrary to what doctors would have us think....

5-0 out of 5 stars A must for all women who use herbal remedies
Rosemary Gladstar is a highly respected herbalist. Here she has provided a very useful book that will be enjoyed by any woman interested in herbal remedies.Unlike similar books, this one is appropriate for the novice and the experienced herbalist.Well written and beautiful, this will be a welcome addition to your bookshelf.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pleasure!
This book is a pleasure to read and a gem for every woman concerned for her health. As an acupressure practitioner I find Rosemary Gladstar's advice invaluable, and her recipes and herbal suggestions complement nicely my books on Chinese herbs. The teas, tinctures and salves are easy to make, and the explanations are clear and knowledgeable. The Materia Medica at the end of the book is extremely useful. I particularly enjoyed Ms. Goldstar's suggestions for younger women's skin problems, have made - without any problems and with common kitchen appliances - the range of facial prducts described in the book, and am enjoying them immensely. Not only are they better than any commercial brand of skin care (because they only contain the best and purest products) but one has the satisfaction of taking an active role in caring for her own health and beauty. Even if you already own several herbal books, do not miss this one. It will become your favorite! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended
This book was great, it really enlightened me to the mouth being the entry to the whole body.I will be going to an integrative, whole body dentist next!Definitely worth reading!

5-0 out of 5 stars Compelling Information about Whole Body Dentistry
This was a very informative and well written book about "alternative dentistry". Dr. Breiner explains the differences between traditional and whole body dentistry in easy to understand terms. He gave many examples of the types of health problems which can be related to amalgams, root canals, periodontal work, orthodontics and bridges and partials. He also described the kind of exam and treatment a whole body dentist would use. A great read.

2-0 out of 5 stars OK coverage, but 1 danger area

4-0 out of 5 stars A welcome edition to the weight loss literature.
There are three phases to the Atkins diet. In the first phase, which lasts two weeks, carbohydrates are restricted to 20 grams a day. More carbohydrates are eaten in the second phase as long as weight loss continues. The third phase is lifetime maintenance. Even more carbohydrates are allowed in this stage but usually no more than 90 grams a day. "Atkins for Life" is meant to explore this dietary phase more deeply than the original revised book "Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution".
4-0 out of 5 stars Atkins - Your way to a Low-Carb Diet
After all the controversy about "Low-Carb" diets it's good to get the story straight from the man who started it.This book lays out the ground rules and provides a good overview of the science behind the hype one reads on the Internet and hears from the media.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you need some motivation...read this book!
I picked this book up on a whim and am thankful I did.The quote that grabbed my attention was on the back cover, "If you can't face one more slab of meat or chicken...[This book]can help."This book just may have been written with me in mind! What I like best about this book is that it is informal, light, and is an easy read.I appreciate that people on any low carb diet could benefit from this book.I see how this book would help people who are just beginning to diet, or who have fallen off track, however, this was not my case.I was really just looking for some added motivation.I did read the chapter about just starting or getting back on track but especially loved the later chapters about continuing success and hidden carbs. This book left me feeling more knowledgable and charged to continue on my way to a lighter me!

3-0 out of 5 stars A whole book on low carb recovery???
This book shows you how to get back on the low carb bandwagon. But they have spent and entire book on something that could've been a magazine article. Basically over 7 days just adding back in more protein, then salads and low carb veggies, and weeding out the bad carbs that you have let creep back in. It is not rocket science but for people that need a boost back on the wagon it may be helpful. Actually it could help someone get on low carb eating for the first time easier than doing it cold turkey.

5-0 out of 5 stars Belongs on every low-carbers book shelf
Once you've fallen off the low carb wagon, getting back on track can seem a daunting task. This book offers a sensible, gradual plan for easing back into the low carb life. It worked to get me successfully into a struggle-free induction when induction was always a major challenge before. 5-0 out of 5 stars Smart Exercise, Real World Results - It Worked out for me. I lost 200 lbs

3-0 out of 5 stars misleading
"Set-point" in regards to exercise's effects is a term I've only seen used by Bailey, and there's no point in arguing about the definition of a usage that the author himself has coined. However, there are inarguable facts that supercede the Bailey theories:Fat-Burning /Sugar-Burning proportions exist on a conitinuum. There is no level of intensity where only one of these fuels is used, and no clear line where the proportions drastically change. Higher intensities -do- use more sugar -proportionately-, but the greater number of calories burned per unit of time usually means that more -actual- fat is burned with higher intensity. The muscle tissue that high intensity builds will keep body burning more calories/fat 24 hours a day. What does this mean in real life? : That weshould -all- exercise at what we subjectively percieve to be high intensity. Our own lack of fitness at the beginning will protect us from working out too intensely, (so don't be afraid of going at it as hard you can), and ourincreasing fitness willalter our perception of what high intensity is, and so will automatically increase the level of the workout's intensity. No overt system is need toincrease intensity, just work out as hard as you can. This will mean very different things toa 22 year old olympic athlete than is does to an 85 year old housewife, but thatwill be self-regulating. With this in mind , the mistakes to avoid have -nothing- to do with working out "too hard", but rather making sure not to work out too long, (20 minutes as a rule, 15 is often acceptable), not working out too often, (3,or even 2 times a week isplenty), and learning the correct technique for whatever exercises you choose. Athletes who spend great deals of time at their workouts have different needs than we do: Some of them are training for endurance, and so, must go for long periods of time at a lower intensity to simulate their sport's endurance requirements, and many hours must be spent on the focused rehearsal of any given sport's many skills. This has nothing to do with the short, seldom, and intense workouts that most benefit general fitness and fat loss. Most important rule: 1/Fitness is -achieved- by exercise and -enhanced- by correct diet, and 2/ Fat loss is -achieved- by diet, and -enhanced- by exercise.Keeping weight off withoutdietary considerations would require more time to workout than anyone with a real job has free in the day.

3-0 out of 5 stars work!!!
It really is a "WORK" book.It takes alot of thinking and quiet time to answer the questions and to go back and analyze what you have written down.Too much work for me.I guess this book would be good for someone who has alot of extra time on their hands to ponder their life.I do not have that time.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
As a student of Buddhism, I found much of the content in this book to be diluted Buddhism.Basically, it's Buddhist teachings without the Buddhism in it.I'm sure it helps many people, but for me it was diappointing -lacking in depth and substance. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very highly recommended
Friends have been telling me for years that I am entirely too pessimistic. With an eye toward changing, I searched the local bookstore shelves a book that presents a balanced spiritual optimism. FIRE IN THE SOUL by Joan Borysenko, Ph.D seemed to meet my needs exactly. Certainly the concept that every difficult experience provides an opportunity for soul growth is not new to me. But Borysenko has a gift for presenting familiar material in a way that is refreshing and revitalizing as she points to the paths that allow the pain of soul making to lead to deep healing. 4-0 out of 5 stars This book helped during a very difficult time
I read this book during the recent hospitalization and subsequent passing of my wife. In the course of dealing with death and dying, I experienced what I would call a spiritual awakening. This book helped provide a context for some of what I was experiencing and was actually a source of incredible comfort. I'm in the process of re-r
