5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful
Thank you Thich Nhat Hanh for sharing your knowledge. The Present Moment is filled with wisdom and humour.Through his teachings people are given the tools to enable them to heal their hearts and live more joyful/lighter lives. His voice is smooth and his humour great, thus he will not put you to sleep.Thich Nhat Hanh shares ideas to help anyone who is looking to take on the path to a more enlightened life.Or as Pema Chodron likes to say, the path of a Spiritual Warrior. The Blooming Of a Lotus is a good book filled with meditations by Thich Nhat Hanh. Learning the philosophy is a part of the path.Practicing through meditation is another part of the path.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Masterpiece By a Master
This collection is by far the best work by one of the greatest authors I have ever read. Do yourself a favor and check this out. The Present Moment goes so far beyond conventional communication that I feel very limited in my attempt to describe what you can expect from it. I envy you who willsoon hear it for the first time.

5-0 out of 5 stars For Those That Have Ears
Throughout time the Holy Spirit has worked through individuals to bring humanity closer to the divine. Sometimes this work manifests itself in an individual who is capable of doing great things with the blessings that were given them.Rev. O'Donohue is such a man, and yes he is still a priest.Once a priest always a priest. This like all others works John has done provide simple advice on how to build ones understanding of life, self, and the divine.John's approach to teaching is a `Celtic' approach as old as the stones that make up the many walled fields of Ireland. Many listeners will not be used to the rhythms of Celtic life, and thus they will find John's respectful approach to a subject boring. We saw this fact manifest in the previous reviewers comments. The Celtic approach to life is never direct, and always mindful. It is this first lesson that John teaches the listener without ever addressing it directly that is the most important lesson to learn. This is the lesson of mindful patience.Without this basic life skill we can never progress in our relationship with the divine. Once we have learned this lesson, and listen again to John's lecture we will then be able to understand what he is addressing in his lectures. The real blessing is that each book, or more especially taped lecture has layered teachings. These teachings are revealed only through rereading, or listening to his lecture. This type of teaching, and systematic unveiling of teachings is the heart and Soul of the Celtic approach to teaching anything. So in conclusion, if you are looking to hear, and learn the subject material from a true modern day Christian Bard then John's works are for you.If you are looking for a quick secret to life answers in a book in the form of a milk carton advertisement then perhaps a quick read of one of the many Celtic Spiritual web pages is the ticket for you. As for me, I hope you take the time to sit (metaphorically speaking) at the feet of one of the last Cludee'sleft in the world.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great voice, great content
Spoken audio tapes need to be evaluated not only on the merits of the content, but also the quality of the production -- including the "listenability" of the speaker's voice. Fortunately, this collection of meditative reflections on Celtic spirituality by Irish priest John O'Donohue boasts not only sublimie content, but an aurally pleasing experience as well. O'Donohue's voice is easy for Americans to understand, but filled with enough of an Irish accent to evoke the windswept shores of the Emerald Isle in every word he speaks. He speaks slowly, carefully enunciating each word, which contributes to the meditative aura this recording evokes. And of course, what he is saying is as important as how he says it: and what he talks about is the distinctive and vital living tradition of Celtic wisdom, from seeing the human being as "sculpted of clay" to celebrating the inner landscape of the imagination, to seamlessly weaving Christian and Pagan stories and principles together in a way that ultimately breaks down the barriers of religion to leave only the breathtaking unity of deep mysticism. Finally, O'Donohue's insistence on the role of friendship and relationship in the spiritual life -- as embodied in the Gaelic tradition of the anam cara, or soul friend -- makes this truly a relevant treasury of spiritual insight.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth listening to again and again.
O'Donohue is wonderful! The subject matter is not only relevant on a day-to-day basis, but also helps one understand their past and the"inner workings" of other people. His explanation and treatmentof death is both informative and helpful for those of us who have lostsomeone we love dearly. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars INSPIRING AND SPIRITUAL
In this series, Dyer's focuses on the power of manifesting what you desire. To him, there's a lot of truth that if you ask and believe in something you shall get it.Of course, this goes against the logic of the age but some things can't be quantified, can they?
4-0 out of 5 stars Ancient traditions in a modern world
I have been a loyal follower of Wayne Dyer for over 25 years and subscribe to his philosophy of life. This is the first CD I've purchased and I use it for my daily walks.
5-0 out of 5 stars This Works...
I bought this book along with "Meditations for Manifesting".Together, these two items are powerful.I read the book every night and practiced the meditations morning and night.Within a week of starting both, miraculous things started happening in my life.Books and people started showing up that lead me to my current home-based business and on to being debt-free and financially secure. It can work for you too.Follow Dr. Dyer's suggestions and meditations AND trust ...it does work. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars good but not great
I purchased this and although it does motivate me to want to move, the 1st part of the CD with the hynotis part, he is talking which does nothing to relax me or motivate me.I skip that part and go directly to the subliminal part. You will want to exercise.

4-0 out of 5 stars Worked for me!
I only gave this 4 stars because I only needed a little motivation. I am a very active, high energy person. I injured myself and had to take time off from regular workouts. I was going to therapy and was frustrated that it took almost 6 months for the pain to go away. I WANTED to go to the gym but just had NO motivation. This tape helped me to get refocused. It is very encouraging which is what I think I needed. I also looked at it as, the tape can't do it alone. It's helping me, but I can't come back and listen to it, looking inside me again and seeing that I failed to make it to the gym. It worked as a partner in that way and was extremely helpful. HOWEVER - The subliminal side is NOT helpful for me. At first I found the music soothing but recently, it has been making me very aggitated! I'm not sure what that is all about but I still thoroughly enjoy the side without the music and it's still working for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars I was a BIG skeptic! but I tried it anyway & LOVE IT!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Most Important Book I've Ever Owned!
This book should be required reading by everyone!I have given away copies of this book, and have one of my own.I have learned more about life from this book - how to deal with it, handle it, and survive it - then any other book I've ever read.
5-0 out of 5 stars Spot-On
I used one of the readings in this book and one of the readings in its sequel, "More Language of Letting Go," as the topics in a recent 12-step meeting I was called on to lead.I was a little bit fearful about using these books, as this was not a meeting of the 12-step program that might be most naturally associated with Ms. Beattie and her writings (although a close cousin). The second person to speak up after I opened the meeting for sharing confirmed my belief that these books were "spot-on," and so I have chosen that as the title of my review.(You know who you are, should you ever read these words, and I thank you once again.)
4-0 out of 5 stars Great message for daily living
I personally believe in the power of daily practice of meditation and focussing on the moment at hand.Being mindful of whats in front of us is the key to life. This book helps with the task of living one day at a time and growing each moment.Highly recommended. Also, would love if you checked out my book which is similar, "Your Daily Walk with the Great Minds of the Past and Present."Thanks and enjoy your daily journey. ... I am primarily an aural learner.Listening to this book on CD was a delight. The last two cd's were phenomenal.I had read them but listening to them was like hearing them for the first time.
5-0 out of 5 stars fascinating and practical
I've never written a review before; but when I saw that nobody else had commented on this audio book (the four cd set), I wanted to enter an emphatic endorsement of it.I have read many books on psychology, religion and emotions. This book integrates all of them.I was originally interested the influence of meditation on controlling stress and negative emotions. That information is here and it is very compelling.(Consequently, I have also ordered many meditation and guided imagery tapes as well). But there is so much more in this book... so much interesting information, it's hard to even know where to start.I will try to give a couple of examples.5-0 out of 5 stars fascinating and practical

4-0 out of 5 stars Experiential Dzogchen
As far as I know, this is the only tape set on Dzogchen, The Great Perfection, the highest teaching of the Nyingma tradition of Tibet (the oldest of the 4 surviving schools).Dzogchen is similar to the Mahamudra teachings of the Kagyu school, and the newest school (Gelugpa) of the Dalai Lama practices a version of Mahamudra as well. You can see my lists of Dzogchen, Mahamudra, and Union of Mahamudra & Dzogchen for other books and tapes on these subjects.Surya Das is an American Lama and best known for his Awakening the...books (especially Awakening the Buddha Within). On one hand, he dispenses with much of the Tibetan-specific mythology and symbology which Westerners can find disturbing or confusing. On the other hand, he tends to use humor a lot, coining such phrases as HahaYana (vs. Vajrayana). But these phrases often contain wisdom too: "We're all seekers; we need to become finders" and "Lighten up as we enlighten up."The latter may seem strange to those familiar with other Tibetan Buddhist (Vajrayana) teachings, but is not unusual for Dzogchen.Dzogchen gets to the heart of the mind without the elaborate visualizations of the generation and completion stages of the lower teachings. In this tape, Lama Das covers many basic teachings (e.g. the six paramitas--ways to approach life) as well as more advanced Dzogchen-specific teachings/methods (e.g. sky gazing). He does relate Dzogchen to regular Tantric Yogas (the lower 8 according to Nyingma). He also attempts to relate the teachings to life in America, coining phrases as "household engineer," America the Buddhafull," and "knowing and glowing."I find his metaphor equating vipashyana (insight meditation) to vaccination quite intriguing. In addition to actual teachings, he includes a number of guided meditations (which do take up a significant portion of the tape which is thus, blank--no talking) as well as the chanting of 3 mantras (Guru Rinpoche, Avalokiteshwara or Chenrezig, and Tara).Regarding the latter, he references the "21 Praises of Tara" which is commented upon by Khenchen Palden Sherab in "The Smile of Sun and Moon" which I highly recommend. All in all, this is a fine tape for someone interested in Dzogchen, especially if one doesn't have a Dzogchen Guru.It provides an additional dimension (hearing).I'd also recommend reading some of his books and some basic Dzogchen texts (e.g. Namkhai Norbu, Tulku Urgyen, or Drubwang Tsoknyi) before or immediately after listening to these tapes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Allowing our Natural Perfection to be here now!
I have the audio cassette version of the book in my car, and have listened to it five times so far. I am finding the book extremely useful, for many reasons, some of which follow below: Lama Surya Das is an authentic TibetanLama, born and raised in the West - he understands the complexities of oneof Tibetan Buddhism profoundest teachings - Dzogchen, but is able to conveyit in a contemporary and often humourous form. A number of guidedmeditations accompany the discussion, and some "non-meditations",such as the 'sky gazing' technique are well explained. I would recommendthe book, and other books by the author such as "Awaken the BuddhaWithin" which I have also read with much benefit. A humble debt ofgratitude to Surya Das from me.

2-0 out of 5 stars redundant, kept waiting for practical training, too "hip"
I found the speaker's voice quite irritating after awhile. I kept waiting to hear more than "wake up"-"enjoy". I was looking for more actual meditation instruction, rather than his pleas to enjoy lifedaily. I say instead buy the "Tibetan Book of Living and Dying"by Sogyal Rinpoche for a real, honest, wonderful look at Tibetan Buddhismand life in general. This selection strives to be a little too hip, too90's for me, which is what I am tired of and want to get away from. I aminterested in the serenity of the Tibetan people and Buddhist beliefs andhow to apply it to my life, not American rhetoric over and over. I wasdisappounted by what the cover said and what was inside. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Diggin' Jack Kornfield ...
i was turned on to Jack Kornfield through Joe Frank ... and it's taken me a longer time than I thought it would to buy this, but I love listening to his words and how he guides the meditation process. It was a relief to hear him address meditation, as I have always found it something I couldn't possibly slow down enough to do.I started listening to these CD's in the car on the way to work and home - and I have to say that just doing that has had a huge effect on me.Do yourself a favor and get this and or "Meditation for Beginners"!

I've read many books on meditation and while each of them answers some of my questions, Jack Kornfield's book, A Path with Heart, answers every one save those that must be experienced first-hand in one's own time.Hisvoice and advice is articulate, intelligent, humorous, open, patient andwise. He starts out by telling you a little about his own experience, goeson to cover the basics of vipassana meditation and then leads you bit bybit deep into the issues every meditator and spiritual seeker must face. What I love most about his teaching style is that he gives gentle, practical advice on the day-to-day, minute by minute stuff to do toexplore, commit to, love being on the path.If my house were on fire and Ihad to grab only one book on my way out the door, it would be A Path withHeart.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you only buy one book on Buddhism . . .

5-0 out of 5 stars Practicing the Power of Now: Essential Teachings, Meditations, and Exercises from the Power of Now
Having already read the 'Power of Now', I found that "Practicing the Power of Now:..." was much more to-the-point and condensed from the original 'Power of Now'. I thought it wasconcise and much easier to follow. The truths set forth in Echart Tolle's work are not to be glossed over. They transcend every person's religion because you can read his words with 'spiritual discernment' to apply the truths to your life and understand it - no matter what your belief system is. I think every man, woman and child should get aquainted with what the author is showing us. It will change your life for the better if you allow it to.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very useful publication
Although i have known people reading "Practicing the Power of Now" without having read "The Power of Now," i would suggest to either read the latter first, or both books together: start with pages from "Power of Now," then the pages from "Practicing..." to go deeper into the understanding of the original book.
