2-0 out of 5 stars Not written with Emotional Intelligence
The author of this book was obviously not applying "emotional intelligence" principles when writing this book. The points were all there and really proved why emtional intelligence is important, but it was just not done in a good manner.I do not typically shy away from long books, but this one was impossible. It was assigned to me and about 30 other people in my organization (we were to discuss and present ideas found inside the book), and can I tell you that no one finished it because of repetitious and dreadful writing?Just know that to be successful, you HAVE to exhibit emotional intelligence and be a intuitive, kind and generally good person to work with. If you don't believe me, save yourself the time/energy and buy the Cliffs notes.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Tool of Necessity
A must read for trainers, trainees and people managers. Goleman's work provides a benchmark for training and development professionals. For everyone it provides a template for increasing one's self-awareness and operational effectiveness within for profit, non-profit and familyenvironments. Nothing fancy, just a plain old common sense appproach backed by documented research and experiences. As a mentor to a significant number of students and professionals, I have recommended this text without hesitation.

5-0 out of 5 stars Emotional + interpersonal skills = Success!
This book simply showed that success is not just dependent on cognitive abilitites but more importantly on emotional competence.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hearing is believing
I had the pleasure of listening to this product while commuting one week. There are some amazing stories pulled from Dr. Phil's past and some wonderful step by step examples for the listener to follow. Dr. Phil is great on the printed page, but hearing him speak is the real deal. James Green, author of "If There's One Thing I've Learned."

5-0 out of 5 stars Any marriage will benefit from this
Dr. Phil Getting Real by Dr. Phil McGraw is easy to listen to and filled with excellent advise for becoming a better marriage partner or gaining the confidence to leave an unfixable relationship, and how to tell the difference.Dr. Phil, who is highly qualified in the field of psychology, has the ability to "get down where you live" and talk in plain ( an often explitive four letter words) language so that you know you are not listening to some Ph. D. who is way over your heads. His TV and Radio fame is well-deserved, and he provides here no quick and easy exit or fix for an unharmonious marriage, but some excellent advice of how to proceed to make your situation better and to improve yourself first and then your relationships. We highly recommend this set of CD's for time well-used when you are on the go.

5-0 out of 5 stars I know it's a cliche, but it changed my life...
I listened to this audio book after having a mini-nervous breakdown at my job. I hated everyday of my work but I felt trapped by debt & honor. 'Getting Real' showed me that I needed to make a change in my life to find happiness. You need to make a commitment to yourself to be happy & you have to be willing to sacrifice for happiness. 5-0 out of 5 stars A great inspiration for any coach
I am a first year basketball coach and found this book very inspirational. It makes me want to work even harder than I have and set higher standards for myself.Pat Riley is an excellent motivator and role model.I like any coach who is willing to write about his major losses in his career as well as greatest triumphs.A must read for any coach. However, he needs to write a sequel since he won his new title this summer.Go Heat!

1-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't make the playoffs.
Of the over fifty books on leadership/coaching that I've read, this is by far the least useful. There are anecdotes for basketball fans, but as far as useful ideas on success and leadership there are few.It is the most useless book I've read in the coaching/leadership field (even worse than Coach K's or Dean Smith's).

5-0 out of 5 stars excellant career guidance
I found this a very helpful book filled with ideas for people to find their purpose.I am a career guidance councelor and ninety percent of my clients do not have a purpose for why they are doing what they are doing in their work. They come to me saying "somethings missing in my work or life".It's often because they do not have a purpose which this book can help them create.Purpose is something we create or decide on.Many people think it's something mystical and we discover it by accident. This book gives people specific tools to help identify a meaningful purpose.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Starting Point
The optimism in this book combined with its emphasis on the link between intuition and synchronicity was infectious. I wanted to learn more! A new book that I stumbled across has become my companion to this one. It is called LUCKY YOU!, by Randall Fitzgerald, and it takes this book's themes and subject matter and adds to it information about using dreamwork and meditation practices and even prayer to help create streaks of good luck in our lives. Both books are relentlessly inspiring and full of optimism and hope. I liked all of the stories and the author's own anecdotes about creating good fortune.

5-0 out of 5 stars Inspiring true stories and practical spirituality!
The co-author of The Celestine Prophecy Experiential Guide has put together this excellent collection of suggestions, ideas and true life stories to inspire one to find one's higher purpose, and a jolly good job it does! It is interesting, well-written and entertaining throughout, with each chapter finishing with a few straightforward questions and exercises to move you on in the right direction. Part three, "deep water", deals masterfully with the darker and more difficult experiences one sometimes has while trying to connect more deeply with the soul's purpose.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars It helped me-a survivor
I have to say that this book helped me on my way to recovery. It gave me alot of insight and helped me to see me for me. It changed my life! This book is proven effective, the exercises are helpful and makes it not as painful as we think it will be. I say this is great therapy! If you want it, it's a great start!

4-0 out of 5 stars This is definitely worth a listen
This tape describes a process of inner work that I think has great potential. One basis of this process is that the author, who experienced serious abuse as a child, feels most "talk therapy" has limited value, and that instead of going to a therapist (or, in addition to, optionally), this process has the ability to *truly* and permanently heal your past. This is something you can do by yourself at home, easily. At times, particularly during the beginning, the tape may seeme rudimentary (inner child, trauma, unconscious mind, etc.), but on the other hand it's very comprehensive and is a necessary foundation, and plenty more awaits.Later, the power of the tape comes through. She describes a "meditative" (for lack of a better word) process which is the core of the tape, but she includes a LOT of other techniques, processes, strategies, viewpoints, visualizations, etc.She does not shy away from the spiritual domain, fortunately.I have just added this to my regular meditation time, and so far think it has great value.Anyone familiar with Victor Sanchez's (Teachings of Castaneda) "recapitulation" process will find this familiar, as I did, but this is an easier (no special equipment), much more deeply developed process here.Anyone wanting to develop (or add to) a regular practice of self-healing or spiritual "work" should buy this tape. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Response for the Christian Person who argued agains Robbins.
I have just read what this person writes regarding Robbins' ways against christianity. With all due respect, I just want to say that if you're looking to improve your life, to be confindent of your actions, and firmly believe that you're in control of your own destiny, maybe christianity is not the path for you. Firstly, christianity is a mere invention towards gaining power over the masses. Secondly, christianity is not based on the real teachings of Jesus Christ, it's all about manipulation to DISEMPOWER people, to make them more docile. When Robbins uses the word "Whatever it takes......"...depends on your criteria. As an adult, I know exactly what I'm doing when I take an action. Believe me, if you want to gain power no matter what, despite hurting people , you'll know it !!!!.....And it's a personal decision anyway.
5-0 out of 5 stars Good role model and beliefs
Anthony Robbins is the first person that I modeled that really changed my life for the better. Before him, I have read other books on psychology and self-improvement, but all those just ended up with lots of theories about things, but very little practical application in real life.3-0 out of 5 stars Not how to get rich
Funny thing about all of these motivational speakers... they're all rich. And that's one of things that makes us buy their stuff. Though they preach motivation and personal growth, the unsaid implication is that if we follow their lessons, we'll be rich, too.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Lowering your expectations is good for the relationship
There is an underlying theme in this book that I think is important for every couple to consider: perhaps our expectations of our partners are too high.I've been a therapist for 25 years, and the most common problem I've encountered involves unexpressed-and often unconscious-expectations that one person has about the other. Women, I believe (and I think Dr. Lerner supports this as well), have higher expections than men. Sometimes they are so high, and so many, that there is no way not to be disappointed. What would happen if we lowered our expectations? We might, as Lerner suggests, become better listeners, and take more responsibility for fulfilling our own needs, rather than demanding that our happiness be met solely at home. Of all of Lerner's books, this is one I recommend most often to my clients. We don't need a soul-mate to be happily married, and if we lower the bar just a little, a "good enough" spouse can adequately provide the decades of richness we need.

2-0 out of 5 stars Too much story telling
This book was recommended for me to read by my husband's personal therapist. He's in anger counseling, after coming back from Iraq, and I'm the one reading about six books right now.

4-0 out of 5 stars The sequel to The millionaire next door
If you read and enjoyed the Millionaire next door this book is a great follow up for more of how the real millionaires think. I is basically the same and the before mentioned book however in this book the author makes a successful attempt to get inside a millionaires head by studying their behavior.
1-0 out of 5 stars I Couldn'tWake Up
Having read "The Millionaire Next Door," as well as most if not all of the classics in this category, I expected life-altering experiences with this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars HOW MILLIONAIRES GOT THAT WAY - PRACTICAL AND INSIGHTFUL INSIDER-INFO
Productivity...attack, working in conjunction with frugality...defense - many coaches and success writers tend to focus more on the former tactics than the latter. Interesting to learn that you may earn lots of money - millions even - and be "Income-affluent", but still not be a champion player, as Dr. Thomas Stanley sees it. The real goal, he says, is to be "Balance sheet-affluent". Welcome to the real meaning of millionaire.

4-0 out of 5 stars nice concept!
I enjoy the thought provoking and positive attitude of this book!
4-0 out of 5 stars fascinating contrast
The Quest audio cassettes are a fine compliment to books by the guest speakers. In some cases the cassettes provide nuances, insights, and clarification not possible in the printed text form. Stephen Covey for example has a deep raspy almost mischievous laugh when he discusses inauthenticity weakening relationships of trust. His sense of humor isn't readily apparent in The Seven Steps... bestseller, but here it is on this compilation. And Thomas Moore's few comments on narcisism are wonderfully refined and to the point, so much so that he does a better job conveying this somewhat difficult concept in speaking than in printed form i.e. "Care of the Soul" where there isn't the same impact. A few of the speakers are too New Agey and fluffy for my tastes but Moore and Covey give the nearly one hundred minutes of listening time great depth and texture. ... Read more

John Feinstein's "A Good Walk Spoiled" follows a handful of professional golfers through the ups and downs of the 1993 and 1994 PGA tour seasons. The book offers plenty of colorful commentary on the lives that these players live both inside and outside the ropes. The story begins with a dramatic retelling of the 1993 Ryder Cup at the Belfry. The chapters that follow focus on individual players and events, including both highlights and lowlights of the 1993-1994 seasons.
5-0 out of 5 stars One of the classics...
This is a must read for any serious fan of golf, but the casual fan will enjoy it too.Feinstein takes the reader into the minds and emotions of professional golfers of all levels during a season on the PGA Tour.Particularly compelling is his description of the struggling pros trying to make it through Q School.Any person who's ever worked hard for a goal or a dream only to come up short will identify with these players.Feinstein weaves those narratives brilliantly with the players on the top of the golf world and shows how they too struggle with the game despite being the best in the world.

2-0 out of 5 stars Golfing Gossip at a Grinding Pace
I guess I am the only reviewer who found this book tedious and banal. It's more a series of thumbnail biographies of pga tour players, linked together through weekly accounts of pga tour stops, than anything else.Feinstein's writing seems to move along at a brisk enough pace, but after several chapters, I found one event starting to blend into the next, one Q school qualifier after another, one harrowing tournament finish after another, and so on, and so on.Feinstein's writing verges on being formulaic- it's all written in a sort of breathless, anxiety filled pace, as the nail biting details of who's missing the cut, who's choking under pressure, whose marriage is on the rocks, who's in danger of returning to Q school all gets mixed together in a swill of golf gossip and insider minutia.

5-0 out of 5 stars You are a hero in the making!
This self-help book uses Star Trek characters and episodes as role models to help you develope your own skills and strengths. As the authors point out, many people are more familiar with the Trek characters than with classical mythology or other hero tales which served as role models in past generations. Using the Trek universe as an archetypal mythology for personal growth is a clever, fun way to get the message across. As Spock would say: Fascinating! 3-0 out of 5 stars Good but rather too mystical for most purist Trek readers
This was a good book if you understand Eastern philosophy (If not, go back and read The Tao of Pooh).Cohen and Baber separate personality into several character types within ST and offer analyses based on these characters, with the ultimate goal being personal growth and development.NOT for light reading, but quite interesting if self-analysis-through-Trek is your "thing".

5-0 out of 5 stars This cassette is life-changing!!
I listened to this cassette and I am sure it will change my life. This cassette shows you how to make Star Trek and its superb characters an every day part of your living and growth as a human being. It explains how we can improve mankind and how we can bring the 'real' universe closer to the Star Trek universe. It is a must for any Trekker who is seeking to become more like her or his favorite Star Trek character or to fill the emptiness in his or her life.It will help you become a warrior like Worf, a leader like Kirk, a relator like Guinan, or an analyst like Spock. It is definately the best way to spend a few dollars ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
Why is this book not more widely known?? It is a must, such a great help, it has really helped me to get going and do what I need to do..

4-0 out of 5 stars I like it
Good common sense approach to the many things that keep us uninspired.Mr Chandler has done a great job at breaking down the problem areas that many people experienced and keep them from moving forward.
1-0 out of 5 stars The key in in the title: "Yourself"
I listen to this CD several times a year.I gave the book away long ago, but I think I should buy one once a month and give it to someone who needs it.Lots of people understand this book because they understand the most effective tool left unused is worthless.Insights, many simple, put into practice will change your life. This is the gift of these thoughts. DO ONE or TWO and see if you are not changed.Four circles is my favorite; its easy and always puts a focus on the lifetime that exists within my day. ... Read more
