This is a reveiw of basic strategies for behavioral pattern changes ,well worth investigating,if you are interesred in rapid transformation in behaviors.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good for insomnia
Though some of the material is useful, I found these tapes to be long and boring. The authors read the text like a funeral procession.I would much rather recommend any of Anthony Robbins work - which always has some NLP, presented in a passionate, immediately useful way. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Maybe the best I've read in this genre!
Although I knew who Dr. Laura Schlessinger was, to my knowledge I've never listened to her on the radio or seen her on television, so I really didn't know what to expect from her book, other than that I had heard is was very good. As a minister, I counsel a lot of young couples and thought I might glean some useful information here. I can't begin to express how refreshing her book has been. Dr. Laura's no-holds barred delivery is a welcome change from the watered down marriage advice books that tend to surface so often.
5-0 out of 5 stars A misunderstood Subject
This can be a misunderstood book as indicated by some of the negative reviews. People tend to get defensive when you stir up the status quo. This is not meant to be a book on 'How to Fix All Marriages' or meant to imply that all failed marriages are the woman's fault. Really, the author is obviously not that simple minded. It is a book that addresses SPECIFIC issues of "Double Standards", self-centeredness and about men who aren't appreciated by their wives and feel dehumanized and taken for granted. There are many men who feel this way, and their feelings are not considered to be valid or important, which is why this book was written. This is NOT a book to advise women to be a submissive 'servant' to a dominating abusive husband. It is about respect and remembering that your partner is more than just a 'husband' or 'wife'. Your partner is (or should be) the most important person in your life and in your heart, and does not deserve to be put on the bottom of the list.
5-0 out of 5 stars Insightful, straightforward and very valuable!
The major point is to love, respect and take care of your husband! Of course, this does NOT mean that YOU have to play the role of a wife-doormat! Dr. Laura didn't leave her career and job in order to be a housewife. That's why the book is more about PRIORITIES! I think that many people have misunderstood her advice about the common issue- the husband wants to be intimate but she doesn't want because she is tired, not in a mood, etc.

I am primarily an aural learner.Listening to this book on CD was a delight. The last two cd's were phenomenal.I had read them but listening to them was like hearing them for the first time.

I've never written a review before; but when I saw that nobody else had commented on this audio book (the four cd set), I wanted to enter an emphatic endorsement of it.I have read many books on psychology, religion and emotions. This book integrates all of them.I was originally interested the influence of meditation on controlling stress and negative emotions. That information is here and it is very compelling.(Consequently, I have also ordered many meditation and guided imagery tapes as well). But there is so much more in this book... so much interesting information, it's hard to even know where to start.I will try to give a couple of examples.5-0 out of 5 stars fascinating and practical

1-0 out of 5 stars Justifies affairs
I hated this book.It says quite strongly that if you're not meeing ALL your spouse's needs ALL the time, they may "fall victim" to an affair. It is a kind of emotional blackmail.None of us is perfect at meeting our spouse's needs. While I encourage communication about these needs, it is awful to use any shortcomings (which we all have) to justify a spouse's straying.

3-0 out of 5 stars why didn't they give us "the joy of sex"??

Editorial Review

As far as we know, plants and animals don't do it. Worry is a human "skill." And it comes in different forms. Some kinds indicate diagnosable conditions, such as depression, or Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD). Others, such as shyness, are built in from birth, and some seem plain old existential--stemming from broken trust or loss of faith. But worry is uniquely human. "To create worry," Dr. Hallowell writes, "humans elongate fear with anticipation and memory, expand it in imagination and fuel it with emotion. The uniquely human mental process called worrying depends upon having a brain that can reason, remember, reflect, feel, and imagine. Only humans have a brain big enough to do this simultaneously and do it well."Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Help for the common man and woman
I picked up Dr. Hallowell's book about three years ago. I was in a horrible job with a demanding and verbally abusive boss and thought I had died and gone to Hell. On more than one occasion I seriously considered driving my car into a tree just to avoid having to go to work another miserable day. I was in counseling with a psychologist at the time who, though quite a funny guy, was of no help to me. I worried about a lot of things. I worried about everything: how to survive in a rotten job; how to regain joy in my life with my wife and newborn son; how to stop self-destructive behaviors; how to get back my lost sense of humor. I was, needless to say, desperate! Then, while browsing through the "Self-help Section" of the bookstore, I was grabbed by the title of Dr. Hallowell's book: "Worry". I bought the book and read case studies all about myself. People who suffered exactly like I did. I learned that I wasn't a failure. I wasn't crazy. I wasn't destined to live out the rest of my life as a miserably unhappy man. I talked about the book with my wife and told her I thought I was depressed and really needed help. I went to a psychiatrist who said I was suffering from Major Depression. He prescribed medication and long term therapy. The change in me was dramatic. I felt better, mentally and physically, enjoyed my family, regained my sense of humor, and, best of all, I quit my job. Of course I found another job and I'm still in therapy. I'm no longer depressed. This book literally saved my life.

5-0 out of 5 stars very informative book on worry
I was very happy that I bought this book.As a person who suffers from worry/anxiety (learned from the best of them....my mother) I turned to this book to help me understand the reasons behind worry and what can be done to help the person suffering from it.Dr. Hallowell does an incredible job discussing the different forms of worry (including the differences between good and bad worry), the possibility of genetic reasons, how worry fits in with other mental illness (depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder), etc. He then talks about the different ways that worry can be dealt with.I was pleasantly surprised to see that he is not an advocate of just giving medication. He discusses a well-rounded approach of therapy, medication (if necessary), and things a person can do on their own. He discusses the various types of medication and how they work with different types of mental illness. The last part of the book talks about various things a person can do to help themselves deal with worry. 4-0 out of 5 stars If you feel you worry too much, you might like this book
"Worry" by Edward Hallowell is an excellent self-help book to read for people who feel they worry too much. It is also great introduction to the academic and clinical treatment of worry. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Very TRUE!
My husband and I both endured shame and guilt based rearing in our youth.Faced with the birth of our second child due this fall, we felt the need to close some old issues that continue to reoccour in our own parenting. We picked up this book and read it in one night. We cried because this book spoke to the very core of our issues and gave us great ideas into healing our past.I would HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who had a difficult childhood.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally some tools to work with
I am so grateful for this book as it has already given me so many insights. Somehow I thought that I was bad or defective, that there was something inherently wrong with me. Having read this book I realise I am the person years and my parents have made me into. A child whose family was dysfunctional and whose parents leaned heavily on alcohol as years went by, how could I have grown into a healthy young woman? Instead, I am an intelligent perfectionist, an over-responsible workaholic who tolerates being treated badly and neglects her own needs. However, I have been able to see that I can change - that I do have the right to learn to live a balanced and happy life. I also bought the work book that goes with this text book, and am thoroughly enjoying filling it in. My mind is working overtime making new connections and trying to make sense of my life, but I wouldn't change it for anything.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent All the Way!
Dr. Waitley builds his theme around an ancient truth that is undeniable, "as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he." It's undeniable because it's from the Bible, God's Word. As a good scholar/teacher, Dr. Waitley expands upon this truth, helping us to see it from different angles.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great program by Dr. Waitley
Aside from the fact that Dr. Waitley has a doctorate in behavorial therapy, there is something special about Dr. Waitley, his writings and the way he speaks. He is much more than a motivational rah-rah guy and he is much more than just a behavorial therapist. Dr. Waitley seems to combine his scientific background with motivational and inspiritional concepts that really work. Listening to him in person is a delight. And his audio programs are outstanding. He mixes humor with education and comes across like he genuinely cares about you....becuase he does.5-0 out of 5 stars The 10 qualities of a total winner
Although there are many authors who promote personal development, few have the credentials that Dr. Denis Waitley has. And few, if any, disclose the the techniques o f the most highly successful people in the world, from top executives, Olympic athletes, POW's and scientists. Dr. Waitley shows us that total success is an ongoing process that is cultivated, nourished and shared.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Life Altering
This is a valuable book for any person where they consider themselves to be well adjusted and no one's doormat, or if they know their self esteem is lacking. The message is not about contemplating the navel but about practical action. This book should come before any other self help book especially weight loss books! Absolutely brilliant!

3-0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly disappointed
I was greatly anticipating receiving my CD and listening to this famous metaphysical woman while I drive the streets of Houston.Unfortunately, I found her voice to be somewhat monotone and boring to listen to.I also found her attitude to be somewhat condescending. I did hear something new which is that our generation is the first that can truly create their own realities.I've haven't even been interested in finishing the last CD of the 4 CD set. I had read her first book and was impressed with the content. I realized I was looking for someone as energized and entertaining as Lynn Grabhorn's CD version of Excuse Me, Your Life is Waiting.Caroline isn't.I realize that not everything out there is for everyone and this audio book just doesn't work for me.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not Just about will power
Myss is very insightful about many things.Though she is continually abusive in her lectures.I have found that people who defend her have somekind of abuse in their past and seem to be taking on the role of defending the abuser.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Dr. Laura Avoider
I have avoided Dr. Laura, her books, and her radio program for many years, fearing she would say something about me I didn't want to recognize.Ten Stupid Things did just that. How sad it is that women have such low self-esteem(though Gangi in her book explains this more as the lack of self-love)that they feel they have to settle for whatever and, more importantly, whomever pays any attention to them. If we would think twice, look in the mirror and truly love the person looking back, maybe we could lower the count from 10 to 1 or 2.

3-0 out of 5 stars Makes good points despite brute force style
A lot of the mistakes listed in the book are dead on.For women who continue to make the same damaging choices into adulthood, this book could serve as a good wake up call.I do think the "pull yourself up by your own boot-straps" kind of advice falls short .And her own life examples of "look at me, I just willed myself to be strong" aren't exactly edifying.Someone who needs this advice the most might be turned off by her initial unsympathetic style and then not take in the good nuggets. In other cases, it could be the exact style and message someone needs.

5-0 out of 5 stars A true gem
Marrianne Williamson's work is both real and honest.Rather than couch things in a concepts that are alien or extremely religious, she talks to you about the realities of existing.Of how things will not always be easy, about how you will lose your way, and honestly how to see people clearly.Growth is messy, it's not neat, maturity is not easy, nor is spirtiuality delicate work, but with assistance from a tape like this you can see yourself clearly and how to bridge yourself from concept to human to spiritual being.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rating for Marianne Williamson on Dealing with Anger........
Marianne Williamson with her audio-cassette book titled "Marianne Williamson on dealing with Anger : Dealing with Anger and Total Defenselessness" is a "down to earth" method of dealing with everday anger situations and how to employ positive thoughts and methods of controlling anger. She mentions anger is allright as long as the anger is CONTROLLED. I believe that this is the key to successfull anger management. Marianne shares personal experiences of past situations that are helpfull with different situations. Marianne also shares a positive messege on controling and managing anger. One such positive messege is that there isn't a need to add "fuel to the fire" where she explains how you can discredit yourself when converying a messge/conflict with the other person. I don't recall if Marianne shares this next thought: "control your anger, do not let anger control you".Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Refreshingly balanced!
I expected this to be more of a religious-type book:"THE Bible says...."It was nothing like that!!!One of my pleasant surprises was that the author is pro-choice!
5-0 out of 5 stars A Woman's Worth
I highly recommend this book for any woman who is graduating college, getting married, having children, dealing with divorce, coping with aging parents or feeling completely overthe edge. It's is a feel good book that makes a woman feel completely understood and worthy. It reminds us who we truly are and how much value we contribute. When everyone or everything around you leads you to feel spent and worthless, this is the book to read. It's the book to treasure and refer to whenver life gets out of control. I've given it to my best friends and they love it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Feel good feminity, if she's so worthy then how come ...
Williamson does a great job describing the goddess and valuing our feminity. Readers will get that usual warm fuzzy feeling that Marianne is so good at evoking. In the dozen plus years since writing this book it seems that her own advice just doesn't cut it anymore than weekly psychotherapy sessions do for others. Perhaps the "imbalance of male/female energies" in the world is to blame. Williamson's lectures or "ministry" seem to reflect a segment of the female population that are highly intelligent, well-educated, articulate, charismatic, attractive, and a basket of neurotic therapy junkies. There is a distinction between maintaining well-being and indulging in self-help addiction at the expense of your life. Williamson's Woman's Worth appeals to an audience of modern women seeking solace or hiding their desire for an M.R.S. degree. Jean Shinoda Bolen's "Goddesses in Everywoman" is a real classic from the early 1990's. If you're looking to have Jungian archetypes on a feminine divine force empower you woman-ness ... pick up Bolen's books instead. For all Marianne's mantra of women power ... she still grips in her latest book about turning 50, having no man in her life, and the other usual complainsts since her lectures on metaphysics began in 1983 ... mainly about men leaving her for someone they love enough to marry. Williamson's "student of life" content, heavily borrowed from all sorts of Bay Area New Age "stuff", is great for anyone who wants to scratch the surface of spirituality rather than deepen into it. My humble advice: take-up Buddhism, see a real therapist, and listen to women who are living the life YOU want in different areas (love, career, health, etc).

I think Tony Robbins is the best speaker I ever heard. If you want to change your life for the better than buy these cds. I don't see him as a motivator I think he's more of a coach because he strongly recommends you take action to get results. I also recommend Live with Passion!

5-0 out of 5 stars Definitely recommended
Put this on your mp3 player and listen to it everywhere you go.

1-0 out of 5 stars bunk
First off, Tony Robbins' voice is like nails on a chalk board. There's a real phoniness to it as well as his inflection and false enthusiasm. If you get past all that you're still not much better off. This CD comprises of six separate discs, an hour apiece, that could have been compressed into a 15min pitch. Believe in yourself, try hard, try harder and consistently and constantly never stop trying to improve. That's it!

The third in a series from a PBS show of the same name.(see the reviews on the other two tapes in this series)This is so well done that you can listen to it over and over and always come away with something new andstimulating each and every time. With out going into a detailedexplanation of the series this is simply a superb compilation of some ofthe thoughts and ideas as expressed by some of our era's best author's,lecturer's and thinkers. It is so well organized and presented that allthree tapes flow one into the other. As withmany series where the latterin the series are not as strong as the first, this is not the case here. All three are equally as strong without repeating and without pandering tothe listener. It is a must own series for those who enjoy being stimulatedto THINK! And for those who don't you might be surprised--you might stillcome away with an experience that you will enjoy. Own all three. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Life-Changing Perspective
After reading Moore's "Care of the Soul," I decided to move on to his teacher, James Hillman. And I am glad I did.
3-0 out of 5 stars The Inappropriateness of Myths for Adults
Hillman is a provocative author with many keen insights, but not unlike many psychologists in the Jungian tradition, he cannot refrain from the use of Myths. I deliberately capitalized the word Myth, because it more often than not is the problem, not the resource to resolution. Don't misunderstand me! Myths have figured heavily in all civilizations for their power to "see" something that is often otherwise not apparent. Moreover, myths are the backbone of civilizing humanity, telling stories, usually morality tales, that provide an insight that more direct discourse and narrative cannot capture. These Myths have a limited use, primarily for children, whose immaginations are charged by the peculiarity of the story, and through that peculiarity perceive a "truth" about life. Aesop's fables are perhaps paradigmatic, but other Myths exist too.
5-0 out of 5 stars Nurturing your own potential
A memorable book offering concepts that inspire and empower. I love the notion of a daimon that we carry within each of us. It brings awareness on nurturing our own greatest potential as well as those in the youth around us. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Can This Marriage Be Saved?
I wish I'd had this book when my first marriage ran into trouble. My counselor at that time told me the marriage could be saved only if both persons were willing to work on it and that one person could not save it alone.
5-0 out of 5 stars very insightful
This book is very insightful. I just got the book and couldn't stop reading it. It points out many things that I've been doing was wrong and teach me new techniques to due with issues. I am the person that often spend a lot of energy being angry and felt like there were no way out because my partner and I are both very bull headed. But this book taught me many techniques to manage my anger (to release them but not venting them on my partner.), and deal with the problem.... not putting it off and felt more and more bitter and angry for months and finally there was the big blow up! These are good techniques to learn even if you are in a good relationship. I can't wait to try these little experiments and see how they work out.

5-0 out of 5 stars With the right attitude, it does work!
An action leads to a reaction.A reaction then leads to another action. Many relationships get suck quickly into the sinking sand, before you know it, it is over!

5-0 out of 5 stars Deep
I ordered this book thinking that it would help put some things in perspective...what I got was a total eye-opener.I have to admit, the man knows what he's talking about.I didn't think it would be as religious as it is, but I'm deeply involved anyhow.
1-0 out of 5 stars Size Matters
This miniature edition is too small to be of much value. When I purchased it, it was not at all obvious that it was a miniature edition, and I was shocked when it arrived. If you're already familiar with the book, it may be a helpful reminder, but it is no way to become familiar with Dr. Peale's work.It is not worth the 4.95 I paid for it, and the 3.99 shipping and handling is ludicrous.

5-0 out of 5 stars Powerful small messages

5-0 out of 5 stars Great!.......but still buy the book
Every story a woman ever needed to hear is there. You will be swept up by the warm, rich quality of Dr. Estes' voice. Her analysis of the stories clean the windows of your mind and give you fresh tools to unlock gates and open the windows to your soul. This is one though that you still want to have in print!

4-0 out of 5 stars Not As Good As the Book but Worthwhile Nonetheless
Although this audio cassette claims to be abridged, which it is, it also contains information not printed in the book, which to me seems odd. This is the only reason I retain both book and audio cassette.1-0 out of 5 stars Worse than wrong
Ms Estes book is pernicious nonsense. She is a shining example of new age muddleheadedness. Such pretentious intellectual blather so easily leads to unadulterated self indulgence. That her "work"is a hit makes meshudder. Jack Rosenbaum, aka Werner Erhard, pulled off a similar financialcoup with EST. ESTes, with an e, is right in the soupscam with EST and thebucks that follow. At least Shirley Maclaine did it with a smile. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent book
This is a very intense read. One of the best suspense novels I have ever read. The book, like in most cases, is better than the movie. *** Recommended reading-"Body Of Evidence" by Patricia D Cornwell. ***

5-0 out of 5 stars "Page-turner" is an understatement!
*NO SPOILERS*
5-0 out of 5 stars Suspenseful
Frank Beachum, a former small time troublemaker, now peaceful family man, is convicted of murder and sentenced to die. Despite always protesting his innocence and waiting through 6 years of appeals, he is now on death row, due to recieve the lethal injection within hours. A reporter who was due to interview Beachum for the last time, is killed in a car accident, forcing the newspaper to send Steven Everett in her place. Everett, a hopeless womaniser whose marriage is about to fall apart, is caught with his editors' wife and knows that this is his final chance to keep his job. Some facts about the case don't seem right to him so, in an almost last minute effort, he solves the puzzles. This was made into a movie with Clint Eastwood and, although I haven't seen it, can well imagine that the crazy, last minute solution must have been very exciting. The final procedures which accompany an execution are chilling enough to freeze the blood in your veins! ... Read more
