4-0 out of 5 stars A Must Listen for Couples!
This tape is an excellent companion to Harville Hendrix's "Getting the Love you Want: A Guide for Couples".The recording was made at one of Hendrix's relationship workshops.Tape one is a fascinating coverage of relationships from a historical perspective.Tape two haspractical hands-on exercises that couples can use to enrich theirrelationships.Listening to couples work through the exercises gave mehope for my relationship. My husband, not a traditionally touchy-feelyperson, also enjoyed the tapes, which I bought for him as I was reading"Getting the Love you Want". ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Why not just kill your mother?
After hearing good things about the book I had hoped for some insight on how to change the approval seeking patterns developed from living in family where being good worked alot better than being authentic. Instead I got heavy handed criticism of "mothers" who warp their children through thier own selfish motivations. Some people may have parents who were intentionally cruel, but mine were just sad, depressed and inept. I spent so much effort defending them from this author's wrath, and perhaps anger at her own mother, that if there was any insight in this book about on how I might change my patterns of behavior I couldn't see it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Frustrating But Extremely Valuable
It is unsurprising that Alice Miller's Drama of the Gifted Child has met with a certain amount of hostility from both the psychiatry and psychotherapy establishments. After all, she frowns both on the use of drugs and cognitive-behavioral techniques as treatments for anxiety--especially in children. She even suggests that those who would use such remedies may have unaddressed psychological problems of their own. What's worse, she appeals to no empirical studies (double-blind or not) in reaching these conclusions; in fact, a reader might be reluctant to conclude from this book that Miller would even be capable of assessing the value of a careful scientific study of this or that anti-anxiety treatment. So, as I've indicated above, this book is often very frustrating. But Miller's work is also quite valuable, at least in my opinion.Like Freud's contemporary Wilhelm Stekel, Miller may not be a systematic theoretician, but her extensive clinical experience has provided her with several important insights that I believe may be useful, particularly to parents of anxious children.
5-0 out of 5 stars Looking back may be only way forward.
"The unexamined life is not worth living" wrote Socrates. If you find yourself on the path of this philosophy a good place to stop is with Alice Miller's short book, "Drama of the Gifted Child".The book, despite being written for therapist's, is unambiguous, easy to understand, and extremely compelling. The book addresses our secret-selves, which includes our subconscious selves, and asks the question, and I paraphrase here, how did you really feel back in the day? Miller contends that a trauma suffered in your young life will continue producing unhappiness, addiction, compulsion, fetishes, mental illness, and worse in your adult life. The only way out of pain is to face the truth. You must face what happened and how you really felt. Not how you were told to feel, not how you needed to feel to survive, not how you told yourself you should feel-- but how you really felt. This is easier read than done. The author states that you cannot undo the past, but through the process of mourning, obtained only by squarely facing the truth, you can free yourself and finally move forward. It is ultimately the story of your psychic pain and psychic redemption.Pain that could not be have been mourned at the point of trauma, and the devastating effects that pain can still be having on your life

2-0 out of 5 stars Good Ambient sounds terrible voice and accent
I purchased this CD based on the other good reviews. I however could not relax due to the accent and voice of the hypnotheripist. I was amazed that a voice as grating as this one was used on this type of CD. For me it was a total waste of money. If you are sensitive to such issues I suggest you try a different CD.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Sleep I've had in years
I have had difficulty sleeping for about two years.I have used this CD for 10 days now and I have had wonderful sleep for each one of them.I listened to it for three nights straight.I didn't need it the fourth night. One night I did wake up and I used it to go back to sleep. I wish I had tried hypnosis sooner.
3-0 out of 5 stars It could have had 5 stars
There are two kinds of insomnia. The first is the one everyone knows about, which is trouble falling sleep. The second kind of insomnia is trouble staying asleep. This means waking in the night or waking up early.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
Branden has a unique approach to self-esteem. It is carefully presented and in keeping with Abraham Maslow's original idea of self-esteem. It is the position that my mind is capable of handling life and that I am worthy of happiness. Self-esteem is the result of certain practices, disciplines and attitudes that an individual holds. The book is clear and challenging.

5-0 out of 5 stars 5 stars for efficacy - i.e. it works
At 54, I've come to the astonishing conclusion that your life can be changed via books.
1-0 out of 5 stars Warning!!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Women's orgasms aren't important
I have been reading this book out loud to my BF, who now worships Dr. Gray as it should be titled, "Why women should give men sex all the time".
2-0 out of 5 stars Well intentioned advice for men; women not included.
Dr. Gray must be a wonderful lover. As a woman I read his hints and suggestions for a man's love making technique and marvel at his insight.I truly could not have imagined a man so aware of what a woman really wants in the bedroom. However there are no corresponding ideas for a woman geared to improviing her skills as a lover.By maintaining a position of gallant "ladies first" mentality he, in truth, is demeaning the power of women's sexuality.
2-0 out of 5 stars Very dissapointed
I wasn't expecting this book to somehow transform my sex life, but I certainly didn't expect the garbage I read.

4-0 out of 5 stars Legacy--4.5 stars
This autobiography is unusual to say the least. It is replete with deep, profound, mystifying, eye-opening, tantalizing personal experiences rather than mundane happenings. It reads, at times, like a fantasy novel.I'd call this powerful book an impressionistic painting of Jung's life and work. It's very personal and very revealing. It's no wonder he left it to the very end of his life.Fortunately for us, he did provide the data & it was posthumously published. It provides a depth of context for his work that is available nowhere else.It is, however, expurgated--presumably by his family who didn't want all his dirty laundry (e.g. affairs with clients etc.) made public. After all, it was published not long after his death. There is much to learn from this book--even by those offended by it.As Jung says, p.247 "Everything that irritates us about others can lead us to an understanding of ourselves."George MacDonald said "Those don't know England who only England know."Jung asks, p. 246 "How, for example, can we become conscious of national peculiarities if we have never had the opportunity to regard our own nation from outside?Regarding it from outside means regarding it from the standpoint of another nation."Similar to his more scientific works, this one contains innovative thinking & timeless observations.
5-0 out of 5 stars You gotta be crazy to analyze crazy people
If a regular person described the things that Jung describes in this biography, you'd say "this person is completely insane".
5-0 out of 5 stars "But Who Manipulates The Apparatus?"
More than any other work in his oeuvre, Carl Jung's biography, Memories, Dreams, Reflections (1961) takes the reader inside the mind of the eminent Swiss psychologist.Jung was both a self-admitted gnostic and an introvert, and this very personal account of his life, which he was completing at the time of his death, is correspondingly subjective in tone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Practical Steps to Do What You Want
I had the good fortune in the mid 1980s to attend a workshop by Barbara Sher which changed my life.I met a gal during one of the workshop exercises who is still an important part of my life and my "success team".It was exciting to find Barbara writing again.Barbara Sher thinks writing goals and putting them in front of you may work for some, but it doesn't for her.She gives you practical assignments to help you clarify your stumbling blocks and gain clarity about where you want to go.The book is most helpful if you actually do the exercises.Reading about them is one thing.Implementing them in your life is what it's all about.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not Only For The "Over 40" Group!
I've read this book at least 3 times, and I came back to buy a new copy because the one I have is SO worn, underlined, written in, the cover is missing, in short- at times in life- it's been truly a life-line, a friend, and what has taken my hand and pulled me through.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thank you Sheila
I just want to thank Sheila for writing this book. For exposing her inner life to the world. The stuff which plagues us as christians, all of the facades, masks and "Shoulds" of christians.
5-0 out of 5 stars Powerful Testimony & Book
A few years ago I found a new copy of this book at a used book store for a decent price. I gave it to my dad for Christmas because he's an avid reader of non-fiction, especially biographies & autobiographies. I wish I'd read it first before I gave it away. I eventually bought a copy from Amazon & read it recently (4/04). I'm glad I finally read it myself. 5-0 out of 5 stars WONDERFUL -- speaks to theheart
I have struggled with, at times winning and at times losseing, depression since I was a small child.I am a strong full-faith Christian.Believe it or not, and a lot of people don't -- you can be both.Sheila breaks that ground and opens her heart and her soul for the good of us reading. She has hurt sooooo much; and come soooo close to the edge of darkness. This book speaks to the heart and damaged maind of every depressed reader; I have cried on each page; for her and for me.It is a great read for the non-depressed to illustrate that a real and active Christan can still be attacked. The support the book offers for fellow depression suffers is excellent. It is not a total explanation of depression, nor of "seeking help" but it is a personal journy that empowers other to walk the path.It is not all you need to read; but it is a read support. ... Using the same guided imagery techniques she teaches her clients, Belleruth Naparstek shows the reader how to train and use the sixth sense in the same manner one would use any of the other five senses in order to perceive things beyond normal cognition. Naparstek's guided imagery approach not only increases psychic sensitivity, but benefits one's emotional and physical well-being. The approach taken in Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is Fantastic
Not only does it give practical, down to earth explanations for things that never made sense before, but it also gives amazing scripts that you can record yourself to experience the same thing. I tried them, the scripts work! Her specific things you can do to cultivate and maintain Psi are also very practical and extremely helpful.
5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible Insights, Brilliant Exposition,An Instant Classic
This is not just a how-to book, although it has a very complete and enjoyable how-to section(part 2).This is not just an insightful explanation of psychic phenomena, although the author gives useful concrete examples by practicing professionals(with contact information). This is not just an in-depth look at how and why psychic phenomena exist, although it is a surprisingly brilliant exposition of the relationship between personal experience and the nature of the universe as described by respected physicists. Finally, what this really is is a personal journal by a perceptive, articulate psychologist on a subject that many of us are hungry to know more about. What holds this book together is the complete honesty and transparency that the author brings to her subject, using her own personal and professional experiences.Bravo Belleruth! I learned so much, using your insights to interpret my own mysterious psychic experiences and pleased with your deceptively simple unification of personal and universal energies (p.110).A special book in my spare book collection. Please write more and soon.

3-0 out of 5 stars I recommend Your Sixth Sense
This is an excellent road map if you are on the spiritual journey of finding your intuition. She gives great clues that let you know if you are succeeding. These are helpful because it lets you know that you are not sick, or loosing your mind.

4-0 out of 5 stars Lovely to listen to
I particularly enjoy listening to Estes' voice as she reads her books. It brings a color and texture to the reading that shouldn't be missed.
5-0 out of 5 stars Dreams the language of the soul.
I have long wondered what some of my dreams meant at times they are silly, frightening, and mysterious at other times profound. I had not been taught how to interpret their meaning. Dr. Estes has again deciphered the magic that lies within. Our dreams guides to where we are in soul development, she explains the method to unraveling the messages we receive nightly. I have read so many books on dreams and did not feel much enlightened at the end. So many books just give standard meaning descriptions some from so long ago they did not have the same meaning to me. In these two tapes so much is explained in a way so easy to understand that the work she did in this area is brilliant. I recommended them to anyone who desires to know thyself better. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book - no question!
We all say there are things we want to have, do, or be in our life, but then we make choices that actually sabotage our efforts to achieve those goals. Why? In The Right Questions, Debbie Ford reveals the underlying commitments that are really running our lives, and then offers 10 questions we can ask ourselves to break free from a limiting past and move into the life of our dreams. This information is as practical as it is profound. Debbie has a remarkably simple and understandable way of presenting life-changing principles.Thank you, Debbie!
5-0 out of 5 stars This is a great book...beware of all her marketing
This is a great book.Ford is very very insightful. Her work kicks up lots of stuff you'd rather not look at.
2-0 out of 5 stars Repetitive
Ford starts with a question, and then within that chapter she says essentially the same thing over and over again, just in different words. I found this boring and tedious. It's like she had ten questions in mind, but she had trouble finding enough to say about them to fill a whole book.

I saw this book in a store for about $2.50 and thought to myself what could it hurt to purchase "You can make it happen". Well purchasing Mr. Graham's book turned me around to the point that I see my vision for the future and what it has to offer me.I started by purchasing a day planner and already positive results have come into my life along with some positive thinking people. There are still many areas in my life that need to grow and improve, but we have to start somewhere.I would like to thank Mr. Graham for giving me the blueprint to success.

1-0 out of 5 stars Average, at best
Stedman's approach to motivating his readers is one all to common. I found this book only to be full of cliches - pointing out the obvious and reinforcing it like a nagging schoolteacher.
5-0 out of 5 stars You Can Make it Happens Rocks!
I love Stedman's proactive philosophy about life and great success examples (the Dr J story is awesome). He reinforces the importance of taking action and having a plan to get what you want. It is the same theme in my dating book, SMART Man Hunting: How to Get Out There, Get Dates and Get Mr. Right! - i.e. if you want to find the right mate, you need a dating plan and focus. You Can Make it Happen rocks! I highly recommend this book! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great source of comfort
For those who have ever loved and lost a beloved, this guide is a great source of comfort.Sensitive and heartwarming, a wonderful gift when words just are not appropriate. The unconditional love of a pet is such a source of joy, but when we lose them, the heartache can be unbearable.Having been there, I understand how paralyzing grief can be.Arlene Millman...

5-0 out of 5 stars For Those Deeply Grieving, You Have Found Help
Purchasing "Legacies of Love" was perhaps one of the best things I could have done to help me through my grief after losing my precious dog on 3/7/02.It has only been a few weeks, and I listen to Teresa's soothing voice and comforting words every day to get through this "coping" period. Her validation that deep grieving over pet loss is undervalued by many on-lookers and "supporters", but completely normal to those of us grieving, brought a sense of peace during a time when there are so many emotions. Those who have lost their companion(s) and don't know how they will go on, will find Teresa's tapes a tremendous source of comfort and graceful inspiration. In honor of my beloved Pupster, I have purchased two additional sets of "Legacies of Love" to donate to my veterinarian's office in the hope that someone facing deep grief after losing their animal will find as much comfort in her words and wisdom as I have.

4-0 out of 5 stars Soothing
Very soothing voice, tone and message. She really helps the hurt and I am glad I made this purchase.I will share it with others and recommend it.I only wish there was a bit more insight into the religious side of loss - something that I could know was of God.Still - excellent. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excelent Audiobook!
I just finished listening to this audiobook, so I can't yet tell you whether or not the techniques will actually raise your IQ, but I can say that I immensely enjoyed the book, and I also enjoyed how the author read the book (in spite of what another reviewer wrote). I'm writing this to defend the author. I thought his voice was friendly and sufficiently animated. At one point, I even wondered if he was reading or talking from his memory because it sounded very natural, as though he was carrying on a conversation. Overall, the great ideas you'll get from this book will more than make up for any crazy, uber-enthusiastic, super-hyper voice that you may find with other audiobooks.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good book, bad reading
Between the two - book or recording, please choose the book! The materials are useful, provided you have both time and motivation to embark on a long course of self-development, with a lot of exercises, a lot of daily work. Read more
