5-0 out of 5 stars Bringing Spirituality down to Reality
As someone who has always appreciated and been intrigued by the different religions of the world and the similarities between them, I love how this book makes them all relevant to my life & how I live it.One thing that most impresses me about this book is the author's thoroughness and conviction. In The Power of Now, Tolle basically describes the essence of Being - what it is to be in the now, and what it isn't.He successfully does this by addressing the major life forces that affect our ability to be present - the mind, the body, death, time, space, etc. - without straying from the heart of the book. His knowledge, appreciation and respect for so many of the ancient spiritual teachings, from Jesus, the Bible, Zen, Buddhism, Taoism, and more, is enlightening in itself and supports his message very effectively.Although I didn't agree with every concept in the book, I appreciate the thoughtfulness and compassion with which each is presented.Tolle is a true spiritual teacher who has much to offer in the practice of self-discovery.
5-0 out of 5 stars A book I go to when I want to become still.
Previous to the first reading of this book, the principles of present moment living, quieting the mind, and being still to become in touch with my intuition or the wisdom of the universe are some I have practiced, along with others, that have enabled me to experience serenity in my life regardless of the circumstances. Though many of the concepts of this book were not new to me, I find this book very valuable. It further expands the understanding of these concepts and adds its own voice to the discussion of these principles with great clarity. It is a book I have read many times and each time, though I may just read a page or two, it quiets my mind and I feel more peaceful.(In my second reading, it helped me to be more peaceful during a time when the doctors believed my son had an inoperable brain tumor.) I have since moved on to read his next book - A NEW EARTH and I am on my third reading. I highly recommend this one as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Read It NOW
Francesco Petrarch wrote, "It is appointed to us to lose the present in expectation of the future," or--he might have added--in fretting over the past. Though Eckhart Tolle's message isn't new--it's at least as ancient as the Hindu and Hebrew scriptures--his presentation speaks directly to the modern mind. We are so bombarded by memories, momentary incoming messages, and fears of the future that we lose the only part of life that truly exists: the present moment. His subtitle says it all: "A guide to spiritual enlightenment." You will feel better immediately when you follow his lead into the now. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Life is to live...
I think deep thinking people tend to be unhappy because they're not living life. They're idealizing and rationalizing life. Some of the concepts here may be good, but reading this book will leave you feeling empty, even if you agree. It's better to spend the time living your life than reading these kinds of deep books.

5-0 out of 5 stars Give this book as a present for anyone you care about
The more you read this book and go deeper into the principles of Covey the more you discover yourself and others. For many people reading Covey's book or listening to him speak literally changes their lives. This is a powerful and effective recipe for success indeed and highly recommended for people in training.
5-0 out of 5 stars All Time Classic
This book is an exceptionally well thought, intellectual work. I admire Mr. Covey for his in-depth analysis of human relationships and the new concepts he introduced like emotional bank account, paradigm shift, and writing a family mission statement. I truly believe that it is extremely important for everyone to read this book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding!
Dale Carnegie is one of the authors I have admired for so long. There are numerous reasons why this book is a classic one. He deeply believes that in every person there is good and you can approach it. Of course, there are many negative people who don't like this book because they see everything in black and white. Carnegie on the other side advocates a really delicate, positive and humane approach to everyone around you. It comes very close to "treat the others as you want them to treat you". I am sure that if everyone read and apply the principles in this wonderful book, the world will be a better place. I am sure that you will be pleased as well with his talent to really understand what drives people. Some of the key and basic motivators he discussed are sex and being important. His viewpoint is very close to the one of the bestselling author of scientfically guaranteed male multiple orgasms and ultimate sex. After all genius things are usually simple. Carnegie explores the human nature and common hot buttons together with the reader and gives you tools to manage and push them at your will with the help of numerous examples. I liked that the book is practical, easy and fun to read, and most of all that it delivers great value. I can not say the same for many other books. Definitely get a copy especially if you are a "good" person and prefer to treat people with respect and dignity.

5-0 out of 5 stars If only...
If everyone in the world read this book just once, it would be such a more enjoyable place to live in...

5-0 out of 5 stars Classic of Self Help Genre
This book may be the one that Created the genre. And what was true then is just as true today. One of the loveliest parts about this book are the stories and anecdotes from the time when it was written. It was a simpler time back then. And the people faced such different dilemas than we do today.Yet, the more things change, the more things stay the same. The humanity of this books comes through loud and clear. ... THINGS YOU DO FOR YOURSELF AND OTHERS.

1-0 out of 5 stars There are much better ways to spend the time in your life
I am not inclined to read self-help books, but out of respect for the person who gave me this book I started to read it. After 100 pages I was gripped with a negative thought I could not shake, and that was that I would spend more time out of my valuable life reading this book.
4-0 out of 5 stars You can't afford the luxury of a negative thought (Life 101 Series)
I bought this book many years ago before it became popular and liked it very much.I have given it to several friends and family members who had cancer and they all said it made them feel much better about their situation and themselves. Some even passed it along to others.I don't think men would enjoy it as much as women. It is full of words of profound wisdom as well as humor. It's a good read. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very uplifting, great paradigm for living
It's difficult to give enough praise to what Stephen R. Covey does.I love reading his books and almost anyone will benefit from browsing through the different stories about how people had the courage to face their problems and change by engaging in positive behavior. To state the obvious, 'Living the 7 Habits' is an inspiring read.I would urge a bit of caution, however, in that the laboratory of the real world may not cooperate much with a person living the seven habits. On the other hand, Covey never says it's easy and he at least indirectly reminds the reader that incorporating the seven habits into one's life is an enormous amount of work.

I always learn from Marianne's words and once again she delivers a message on self-acceptance and love in simplistic terms. She combines humor and personal stories that anyone will relate to. No one else compares in relating the message of A Course in Miracles.

5-0 out of 5 stars Your Greatest Struggles Will Turn Into Your Greatest Triumph
Marianne Williamson brings us a gem of wisdom to honor our difficulties and our Divine capacity to triumph by getting in touch with our indwelling God-Self, and from a place of pure love and acceptance we CAN turn difficulties into triumphs. We do not need the approval or validation of others, but only from ourselves.

This was my first full experience of Marianne Williamson. 4-0 out of 5 stars Useful and Fun but Not Mandatory
I liked this tape series.Robert Moss is no stuffy pedant and keeps the listener informed and entertained with his engaging personal style. The information presented is valid and useful but I wish they would make a CD version so you can go back to whatever bits you're most interested in more quickly.
5-0 out of 5 stars Dream Gates: A Journey into Active Dreaming (Six tapes)
There is an immediacy to these audio tapes that conveys Robert Moss's natural abilities as a teacher and dream bringer. It is a pleasure to hear his voice tell stories and impartinformation on how to remember our dreams and use them for the benefit of ourselves and our society.I bought sets for friends interested in their dreams who do not speak English as a first language and who might have difficulty reading Robert Moss 's books (which I highly recommend).Any person with a visual difficulty would appreciate the audio cassettes. For those who like to learn from Robert Moss how to navigate in their dreamscapes and discover help and healing through Active Dreaming techniques, these tapes are a marvellous aid. They encourage and enlighten the dreamer within us all. Also on the market now is a video series with Robert Moss, which is very engaging and informative.

5-0 out of 5 stars So NOT a "book on tape"!
This audio set is a course in adventure! Yes, it is complimented by Mr Moss' book of the same title, but it is not some airy thing that you pop in the tape deck for distraction on those long road trips! This is a guide for the Roads to be found in Shamanic journeys. Mr Moss' narration sets the perfect tone for the excursion, and his years of experience teaching workshops on the subject shine through. To complement these tapes, he also has a new series of videos, from Psyche Productions in Milford CT, which deepen the journey even further. The possibilities are limitless!!! ... Read more

Zig Ziglar definately gives alot of thoughts and ideas in the book. Some of the things he said, really hit home to me and I felt I could really apply what he was talking about.
5-0 out of 5 stars so what if hes christian?
a very ignorant thing to do would be to exclude everything he has to say because he would cite the bible or jesuses teachings.given alot of people are christian, alot of people dont mind.i myself am not christian, im a setian, however it doesnt mean that even when he cites the bible, what he has to say isnt valid or doesnt hold water.
5-0 out of 5 stars Right on Target Advice!
"In my own life I always pray for guidance as I choose my goals," writes Ziglar. In the margin I dated it and wrote "I do too." This book contains so much rich, practical, doable wisdom, not wonder it's a classic for achievers. Persistence leads to desired results. He quotes Robert Collier in making the point when he noted, "Success is the sum of small efforts--repeated day in and day out."Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars It Gets No Better Than This
I've read a gazillion or so self-help and motivational books and articles and have listened to a few dozen more. This jewel of ageless wisdom, from the leading "success" and motivational writers and speakers today, is at the top-o-my-pile, a sure Top 5er.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Classic
If I have listened to this production once, I've listened to it 50 times. It's incredibly thoughtful, provocative and widereaching. Not only do I hear the words of so many of the interviewees resonate in my head long after I've completed the CD, I get new understanding and nuggets to mull over with a fresh listening.I've since sought out and purchased works from many of the writers and I'm going to purchase the DVD set of the original production from which this audiobook is culled:"A Quest for Life."A goldmine 100 times over.I'm only amazed it was allowed to go out of print.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
One of the best tapes I've listened to on spirituality and life lessons. Like a good book that you can repeat and get new things out it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Life Strategies
Life Strategies by Phillip C McGraw is a fine book about how to look at yourself. PCM gives you a realistic feeling about how to protray yourself with no nonsense ideas. He has you approach your important categories in life (ie; personal, professional, relationships, family and spiritual) by applying his ten "Laws of Life."By taking responsibility for your actions and realistically evaluating your strengths and weaknesses you can improve your quality of life. His book is a fine read and useful to anyone who wants to learn more about what is important to help them live better and reach their personal goals.I definitely would recommend this book, because it's ideas are realistic and helped me focus on what is important in my day to day activities.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book changed my life.
If you are one of those people who shy away from doing a truly in-depth analysis of why you perpetuate unproductive, dysfunctional behavior, this book is not for you. On the other hand, if you are willing and desire to explore the inner you and examine what motivates your behavior even if the truth is ugly, hateful and makes you want to run and hide, then this book may be helpful to you. My quest for self-improvement led me to read this book and ultimately discover the hidden payoffs for my counterproductive behavior. This book, in addition to Napoleon Hill's "Think and Grow Rich", helped me to totally change my thought process and as a result I lost 89 pounds with no gym, trainer or surgery. Nothing but pure motivation propelled me to exercise everyday (at home with videotapes and outside-first walking, then running) and it was therapy for me. I've made a 180 degree turn from the negativity I used to manifest due to my pessimistic viewpoint of life. I've improved 100% body and mind and give the credit to both of the earlier mentioned books and to God, because I also prayed a lot.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great self-help... if you follow through...
Even though this book was written in 1999, I only came across it in 2005, and took my time to read it.It has been very helpful in identifying why I sometimes do what I do, and what I need to change. It is true that one size does not fit all, and that is why this book is written in a "coaching" manner of asking the right questions in the assignments so that we take time to reflect on these questions so as to gain a greater awareness of ourself.

After reading "The Dark Side of the Light Chasers," I expected the same level of insight in this volume.Instead, I found a smorgasbord of various religions that didn't really seem to do justice to any particular one.I realize this book is more self-help and self-discovery oriented, but the spiritual overtones were too strong and too garbled to be of any real help.Ford is a good writer, and she does have some helpful insights on personal care habits, so I give this one two stars.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very practical and really made me think!
I was given this book by my therapist, as she felt that I still needed to work through a lot of issues from my past and that this book may help me bring the experiences forward. I can honestly say that it did.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent concept; a bit repetitive
This book offers a great way to approach difficult conversations. There are several templates in the book to show the reader how to do this. However, after reading it, it does tend to repeat certain aspects of the material.I am sure that some of that is for effect; but for someone who is capable of applying material quickly it can be somewhat boring.I still recommend it as a read, but I do not recommend that you need to completely read the book to get the overall message.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good content-very dry
The content is excellent but she narrated her own book and it's very dry to listen too.I recommend buying the book and working through that.

5-0 out of 5 stars It really works!
The information and the examples in the book are easily applied and really do make a difference.I used the book as a reference working with first line managers; it is especially useful to them in confronting passive aggressive communication styles. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Ilyanla Live!: Self Value, Self worth & Self Love
I enjoy watching Iyanla on TV, and I have read a couple of her books, this was the first time I purchased one of her tapes and was very disappointed. The sound quality is poor.I found myself turning the volume up and then down, and then at times I couldn't hear anything at all.It started out with singing, which I guess is alright if that is what you had expected, but I didn't see the connection in the overly long singing introduction to the tape subject. She had a few good points that she brought out, and made one think. There were maybe 20 min. of interesting subject matter to listen to: I would not recommend this particular tape.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
I am a huge Iyanla fan, but even she has a bad day. This tape was a disappointment, expecially after being fired up with the "Faith" tape. The quality of the sound was not good, her singers were not on their game and the message seemed to come in the last 5 minutes of the tape. You found Iyanla rambling on and on mostly.I will still try the other cassettes but this one, you can pass on.

5-0 out of 5 stars Remember to Love Your Feet
Iyanla takes us on a journey of the past and present on this cd.You willfind yourself in Rhonda ( the story she is telling throughout the lesson). You will step outside of your inner being and take a hard look within.Youwill come to know something that you have learned for years but never paidthat much attention to - "that you are made in the image of God." I don't want to spoil it for anyone, but you will learn to love yourfeet, your face, your private parts etc...Purchase this, and I promiseyou will finish it enlightened. Now hug yourself and tell yourselfRead more

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to sit down with the Dalai Lama and really press him about life's persistent questions? Why are so many people unhappy? How can I abjure loneliness? How can we reduce conflict? Is romantic love true love? Why do we suffer? How should we deal with unfairness and anger? How do Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting introduction to the Dalai Lama's thoughts and beliefs
For anyone seeking a simple, introductory look into the fundamental beliefs and principles of the Dalai Lama, "The Art of Happiness" would be a great place to start. The book, authored by Howard C Cutler, MD, consists of excerpts and commentary from a series of documented conversations held between himself and the Dalai Lama.
5-0 out of 5 stars one of the best self help book
everytime when I struggle with some emotional problem, this book always helps me to feel better and resolves my problem no matter which page I flip to.How amazing? It is a must-have book!

4-0 out of 5 stars An interesting debate
A bit of a tough read, but worthwhile all the same! It takes the Dalai Lama's views and mixes them with explanations from an American psychiatrist (East meets West). The result is a useful tool kit for creating more happiness in your life, but beware, it requires some deep thought - and some very active mental changes in your normal patterns of behaviour. Happiness, it seems, requires a great deal of mental discipline! But remember, its the end purpose we are working towards, not the short term pleasure...so put those chocolates away, and read the book!
