4-0 out of 5 stars The Aladdin factor
A pretty good book.I expected a "how-to" book, but was pleasantly surprised. The book is mostly anecdotes but really helps you focus, and lets you apply the "lessons learned" yourself.A very enjoyable read.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Aladdin Factor
Bottom line is ASK, ASK, ASK for what you want. It's amazing how many people are afraid to ask for what they want or don't even think of it!
5-0 out of 5 stars Asking is a good thing
I hate to ask for help, I have an aversion to it.And being a strong individual has helped me, but it has also hindered me.The Aladdin Factor changed my life in the first three chapters.I realized why I don't ask for help, how that is hindering me, and how to change it.In the first week I began putting the principles into action and wow, I asked and I received. It has been amazing.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Life-Changing, Mind Blowing and Magical this book is!!!
Well, it took me a night to read it. But it's going to take a lifetime to get totally, it's that simple; yet that complicated and powerful. I mean Dr. Hiatt imparts something genuinely wonderful and she makes no bones or psychobabble (as another reviewer accurately calls it) about it. And the bibliography, it is wonderful. Especially including Julian Jaynes' masterwork on consciousness "The Origins of Consciousness and the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind" and James Allen's masterwork on spiritual epistemology "As a Man Thinketh" and her enlightened use and takes on these works in her book. Thus, I say objectively here that this book is a great buy in every way. And not only that, it is superiorly and tightly researched, written and illustrated (with examples as well as contextual analogs and diagrams.) But that's only the tip of the iceberg. She literally takes all the "mystery" nonsense and mythological foolishness out of hypnosis and mental science. It's like a quote from a case-history in Claude M. Bristol's classic book "The Magic of Believing", sure you know there is a Niagara Falls, and you've seen the 8 x 10 glossy pictures of the falls, but when you actually see it, it's genuinely overwhelming and awesome.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book with wonderful ideas!
Having read many "self help" books, I must say that this one definatley stands out from the crowd.Specifically, the author clearly and persuasivley makes the case for living with self-esteem.She states that one should treat one's self (and this includes what one says to one's self in one's head) as one would treat a loving friend.I have yet to see this idea expressed so throughly and convincingly.I highly reccomend this book; it can do wonders for your life!

5-0 out of 5 stars Create Your Dream Life Now!
Marta Hiatt gives you all you need to know to create for yourself a life you'll love getting up in the morning to live.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very annoying
There was just no way to relax with this CD.Mesmer's voice is so nasal and unpleasant. Additionally, it was a very short CD, and was not worth the price. There are far better ones out there, such as "Meditation for Weight Loss" by Allen Holmquist.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good, not great
After using Glenn Harrold's "Lose Weight Now" Hypnosis CD every night for several months, I was not impressed with Mesmer's.There was something about the pace and cadence of Mesmer's voice that didn't allow me to get into the flow of the hypnosis.Try Harrold's tape instead.Neither of them really tell you the logic of what you should eat and why so much as listening to the CDs leave that power of suggestion in your head so that you follow what you already know about proper nutrition. Harrold's voice really had a lasting, calming effect on my daily life in every minute of my day that Mesmer's didn't and it went far beyond the topic of weight loss.Try Harrold's "Lose Weight Now" it's like a long lasting non prescription Valium that helps destress you all day long.Hard to describe but one of the best things I ever did for myself. Mesmer's voice just doesn't do it for me like Harrold's voice--and yes, it helped me lose weight and no, I don't know why.

5-0 out of 5 stars THIS CD HELPED ME REACH MY GOAL
I had been trying to lose weight for several years. My friends all said I look fine. But, you know when you stand in front of a mirror with nothing on and you can see the weight beginning to gather. I always seemed to rationalize an excuse for those extra little pieces. The Mesmer CD has, relaxed me, taken me on a self-confident journey to achieve the weight loss goal I have set and maintain it. I feel it was money well spent. When you are ready to honestly lose weight, then buy it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun to Read-Well Organized-Great to Use Seperately Chapter by Chapter
This book is a really easy-to-read, practical book for those who want some fun ideas on how to share leadership qualities with managers or up and coming leaders in your organization.
1-0 out of 5 stars If you want to become a great boss, don't read this
Fox uniquely attempts to give suggestions on how to keep the best employees. Fox divides his book into fifty short stories that sometimes include a real life situation. Many of his anecdotes have serious flaws in the basic principles of Organizational Behavior, while others do not fully explain how to handle potential problems. There are instances where his suggestions can be very useful in becoming a good manager. At other times, his stories have good concepts, but do have loopholes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mentally Stimulating, Spiritual, Informative and Scientific
Deepak Chopra changed my views about "self-help" tapes and books. Most of what I have heard or seen advertised, by others, has been very goofy or pretentious....Deepak, however, is not your usual fare. This man is an EDUCATED, Medical-minded, Spiritual, Philosophical genius. He explains Quantum Theories in a way that children can appreciate, as well as those who don't listen to Feynman tapes or delve into other Deep-Thinking ares. This man is Brilliant, yet he does not "go over your head." He is there to help you see the light...which shines brightly from his work. Chopra's tapes and books reveal much knowledge that has been suppressed and/or ignored for centuries. His work with Wayne Dyer is fun and jam-packed with life-altering views and helpful hints, all backed with psychological, medical and LIFE-Experience research. You will not listen to this tape once or twice and misplace the tape--however, you might loan it to a great friend (that will give it back to you!)--you will find yourself listening to his work often. You will learn something new, each time you play the tapes. Journey Into the Boundless is one of my favorites.A friend loaned the set to me and now I want my own copy! I believe this man's work is so important that I feel obligated to purchase a copy and share snipets with friends. Anyone interested in Spirituality, Healing or Physics would love Deepak Chopra! I cannot say enough good things about this man and his work. His voice is soothing and his words are enlightening. This is money well-spent, and the thought-provoking, intellectual material is priceless!

5-0 out of 5 stars Boundless Wisdom
In Journey to the Boundless, Deepak Chopra explains that we do not have any control over our jobs and relationships. It is a better not to have control in those situations, that way we won't be frustrated oversituations out of our control.Deepak Chopra also explains how we canbreak free of self imposed barriers to achieve our goals. I recommend thisaudio to anyone who wants to explore their intermost connection, betweenthier mind, their body and their spirit. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Every Living Thing
I read this book many years ago, I enjoy animal stories, I loved books by James Herriot, I read all of his books, the one perchased recently was a gift for my grandaughter who likes animal stories.

4-0 out of 5 stars Every Living Thing
As usual, I enjoyed the stories written by James Herriot; maybe not quite as much as previous books but it still made very enjoyable reading!

5-0 out of 5 stars Funny, sad, entertaining, another Herriot Masterpiece
When I think about it, it scares me that James Herriot almost never got published. It was through a small bit of luck/fate/intuition, whatever you want to call it, that his writing was made into a book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Information
Very valuable information for everyone and easy to listen to.These women have so much real information to share that is difficult to find elsewhere, but it is like listening to your smarter girlfriends having a conversation.I liked the combination of styles and the fact that the doctors shared some of their lives, including their own ups and downs.I can relate to them as opposed to the "experts" that are pushing a certain type diet or program (why do those experts always write another book a few years later with a new, different program?)5-0 out of 5 stars WOW!
Intuitively, I always knew that all of me was connected and this certainly confirms that.Thank you!

3-0 out of 5 stars Interesting, but.......
There was so much in this tape series that is interesting that I hesitate to critise the work but here goes.... Dr. Schulz and Dr. Northrup are totally fun, because they are good friends and know each other very well. This is a plus and a minus, they have good information to impart, but sometimes the "conversational tone" of the tape series takes away from the content. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Maybe the best I've read in this genre!
Although I knew who Dr. Laura Schlessinger was, to my knowledge I've never listened to her on the radio or seen her on television, so I really didn't know what to expect from her book, other than that I had heard is was very good. As a minister, I counsel a lot of young couples and thought I might glean some useful information here. I can't begin to express how refreshing her book has been. Dr. Laura's no-holds barred delivery is a welcome change from the watered down marriage advice books that tend to surface so often.
5-0 out of 5 stars A misunderstood Subject
This can be a misunderstood book as indicated by some of the negative reviews. People tend to get defensive when you stir up the status quo. This is not meant to be a book on 'How to Fix All Marriages' or meant to imply that all failed marriages are the woman's fault. Really, the author is obviously not that simple minded. It is a book that addresses SPECIFIC issues of "Double Standards", self-centeredness and about men who aren't appreciated by their wives and feel dehumanized and taken for granted. There are many men who feel this way, and their feelings are not considered to be valid or important, which is why this book was written. This is NOT a book to advise women to be a submissive 'servant' to a dominating abusive husband. It is about respect and remembering that your partner is more than just a 'husband' or 'wife'. Your partner is (or should be) the most important person in your life and in your heart, and does not deserve to be put on the bottom of the list.
5-0 out of 5 stars Insightful, straightforward and very valuable!
The major point is to love, respect and take care of your husband! Of course, this does NOT mean that YOU have to play the role of a wife-doormat! Dr. Laura didn't leave her career and job in order to be a housewife. That's why the book is more about PRIORITIES! I think that many people have misunderstood her advice about the common issue- the husband wants to be intimate but she doesn't want because she is tired, not in a mood, etc.

I am primarily an aural learner.Listening to this book on CD was a delight. The last two cd's were phenomenal.I had read them but listening to them was like hearing them for the first time.
5-0 out of 5 stars fascinating and practical
I've never written a review before; but when I saw that nobody else had commented on this audio book (the four cd set), I wanted to enter an emphatic endorsement of it.I have read many books on psychology, religion and emotions. This book integrates all of them.I was originally interested the influence of meditation on controlling stress and negative emotions. That information is here and it is very compelling.(Consequently, I have also ordered many meditation and guided imagery tapes as well). But there is so much more in this book... so much interesting information, it's hard to even know where to start.I will try to give a couple of examples.5-0 out of 5 stars fascinating and practical

Editorial Review

"The magic key to health, happiness, and romance is waiting for you in your local health food store," says relationship guru John Gray, Ph.D. Not only do men and women have different communication and love styles, they gain and lose weight differently and need different diets, asserts Gray, author of the bestselling Mars and Venus series. Though he does not have credentials in exercise, nutrition, or weight management, Gray creates a program that, he claims, balances each gender's brain chemistry, resulting in health, weight loss, stress management, and romance. 5-0 out of 5 stars Makes perfect sense!
The Mars and Venus Diet and Exercise Solution makes perfect sense and there's no one better to explain the differences between men and women when it comes to dieting and exercise than John Gray. And I love the way he ties diet and exercise back into the health of relationships.
4-0 out of 5 stars John Gray and Isagenix = Perfect Combination
John Gray, for any who have had the pleasure of seeing him in person, is an absolutely amazing speaker. He is a genuine person who cares about people. He's funny, he's highly intelligent, and he really understands the fundamental differences between men and women. We are truly different creatures.

1-0 out of 5 stars Justifies affairs
I hated this book.It says quite strongly that if you're not meeing ALL your spouse's needs ALL the time, they may "fall victim" to an affair. It is a kind of emotional blackmail.None of us is perfect at meeting our spouse's needs. While I encourage communication about these needs, it is awful to use any shortcomings (which we all have) to justify a spouse's straying.

3-0 out of 5 stars why didn't they give us "the joy of sex"??

To be blunt, I was highly skeptical, but as I listened to the tapes over this past weekend, I began to appreciate their value. The exercises seem deceptively simple; at times, you want to throw down you pen and bang you hand on the table and proclaim, "what the hell is this about."

Editorial Review

As far as we know, plants and animals don't do it. Worry is a human "skill." And it comes in different forms. Some kinds indicate diagnosable conditions, such as depression, or Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD). Others, such as shyness, are built in from birth, and some seem plain old existential--stemming from broken trust or loss of faith. But worry is uniquely human. "To create worry," Dr. Hallowell writes, "humans elongate fear with anticipation and memory, expand it in imagination and fuel it with emotion. The uniquely human mental process called worrying depends upon having a brain that can reason, remember, reflect, feel, and imagine. Only humans have a brain big enough to do this simultaneously and do it well."Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Help for the common man and woman
I picked up Dr. Hallowell's book about three years ago. I was in a horrible job with a demanding and verbally abusive boss and thought I had died and gone to Hell. On more than one occasion I seriously considered driving my car into a tree just to avoid having to go to work another miserable day. I was in counseling with a psychologist at the time who, though quite a funny guy, was of no help to me. I worried about a lot of things. I worried about everything: how to survive in a rotten job; how to regain joy in my life with my wife and newborn son; how to stop self-destructive behaviors; how to get back my lost sense of humor. I was, needless to say, desperate! Then, while browsing through the "Self-help Section" of the bookstore, I was grabbed by the title of Dr. Hallowell's book: "Worry". I bought the book and read case studies all about myself. People who suffered exactly like I did. I learned that I wasn't a failure. I wasn't crazy. I wasn't destined to live out the rest of my life as a miserably unhappy man. I talked about the book with my wife and told her I thought I was depressed and really needed help. I went to a psychiatrist who said I was suffering from Major Depression. He prescribed medication and long term therapy. The change in me was dramatic. I felt better, mentally and physically, enjoyed my family, regained my sense of humor, and, best of all, I quit my job. Of course I found another job and I'm still in therapy. I'm no longer depressed. This book literally saved my life.

5-0 out of 5 stars very informative book on worry
I was very happy that I bought this book.As a person who suffers from worry/anxiety (learned from the best of them....my mother) I turned to this book to help me understand the reasons behind worry and what can be done to help the person suffering from it.Dr. Hallowell does an incredible job discussing the different forms of worry (including the differences between good and bad worry), the possibility of genetic reasons, how worry fits in with other mental illness (depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder), etc. He then talks about the different ways that worry can be dealt with.I was pleasantly surprised to see that he is not an advocate of just giving medication. He discusses a well-rounded approach of therapy, medication (if necessary), and things a person can do on their own. He discusses the various types of medication and how they work with different types of mental illness. The last part of the book talks about various things a person can do to help themselves deal with worry. 4-0 out of 5 stars If you feel you worry too much, you might like this book
"Worry" by Edward Hallowell is an excellent self-help book to read for people who feel they worry too much. It is also great introduction to the academic and clinical treatment of worry. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing Kosher/Mediterranean combination
Ok, I was kind of fat.Not fat, like that those people whose behinds they show on the news when doing stories on obesity in America, but I was in the process of going from thick, to fat."What Would Jesus Eat?" reversed that trend. What I like best about Dr. Colbert's book is that it provides information on how to achieve a real lifestyle change, not some sort of fad diet. Also, kudos to Dr. C for helping change my life while heaping praise on the Good Lord.
1-0 out of 5 stars Jesus and Me
Despite what T. Smith (another reviewer) states, Jesus was under no vegetarian obligation.God has made multiple covenants with his followers, and in each covenant the previous one was replaced. Thus post-Noah followers could eat meat, and post-Jesus followers had no obligation to be kosher.Which brings me to my main point: why should one feel any significance in eating what Jesus ate?He was still obligated to follow the kosher rules of Deuteronomy, while modern day Christians are not.If the book is kosher, it need not be, and if it isn't, it can't possibly contain what Jesus ate.Jesus was kosher.Basically, this is a pretty stupid premise for a book.Eat what you want - God won't care.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good But Incomplete.
If this book gets Christians to eat better, more power to Dr. Colbert, although I'm not totally sold on his premise.

4-0 out of 5 stars great , helps a lot
This is a great tape set. I have used it for years. It helps me to "re-center" myself. In the hustle and bustle of life a short 15 minutes of meditations helps whole lot. As you practice the tape, you have to add your own goal. Couple this with the LAW OF ATTRACTION by Micheal Losier.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as DeJong's other work
I am a fan of DeJongs's and feel like his work has dramatically influenced my life. His first tape, The Silva Method, was better and had cleaner, more usable exercises.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Dream Warrior!
God, have I had fun with this series on dream control! In the past I have suffered badly from insomnia and the anxiety that comes with it and can honestly say that this series has made an enormous difference in my life! I remember my dreams, I enjoy them very much and can become lucid. I'm still working on becoming more lucid by remembering to ask myself many times daily, "Am I dreaming?" (as Victoria states in her cd about lucid dreaming.)I dream of flying very often, have my entire life, and now, thanks to these cds, I always become lucid during flying and am able t
