Best radiology book on the market, great for nat'l boards
I graduated chiropractic school this year.I used this book in school and found this it to be filled with lots of info on soft and hard tissue pathology.The radiographs are excellent in this book.Every condition from spinal bifida occulta to fibrous dysplasia is described with the utmost detail.Every chapter has a helpful summary that summarizes all the important points of each condition.I also used this book to help me study for Part II, III and IV of the National Boards.However, if you really want a great book to study for the national boards do what my study group and I did, get the following: Yochum & Rowe Essentials
An essential text for all chiropractic and medical students as well as practicing doctors.Useful write-ups on hundreds of conditions.Wonderful coverage of arthritides and tumors.Huge section on normals and a small section on positioning.The only place it's lacking is in chest and abdomen, and that's because it's a book on skeletal radiology.I couldn't do without it.

A MUST BUY!

WELL-RESEARCHED AND VERY HELPFUL
An excellent source of information. This book, published in 2003, is exhaustively researched, she cites medical and research studies involving hundreds and thousands of subjects, she covers the newest technologies and medications. The only thing missing from her book (because it was published a few years ago) is the very latest information about the potential dangers of Fosamax and the class-action lawsuits about the death of bone in the jaw that has caused people to have their jaws removed.She provides excellent suggestions for improving bone health, including exercise, dietary changes, supplements, and other ways to beat osteoporosis. She doesn't say that osteoporosis is a myth, she just debunks some of the myths surrounding this condition.

This book was very informative and helped me decide to stop taking Actonol.Very eye-opening.

A Must Read If You Are "Borderline"
This book was well-researched and very readable. I was able quite easily to verify the author's conclusions against the underlying medical literature she cites. Much of it is on the internet.The book provides a needed "balance" concerning all of the hype about osteoporosis.

worth a buy if you do not mind typos
Clinical Application of Neuromuscular Techniques is an alternative to Travell's Trigger Point Manual if you do not do TP injections. It has great pictures, well explained treatment techniques (if you are up to date with your anatomy and medical terms) and lots of references. The disadvantage are typos (the editor must have had a bad day and was unable to write the German words for the references right, but also some English words are off!) Parts of the text are repeated in the book twice, what I thought is unnecessary and only adds to the number of pages but not the quality of content.

Great book for the money!
I'm an Advanced Practitioner of Massage Therapy and find this book VERY helpful.The Muscle Energy Techniques (M.E.T.s) are explained very thoroughly, and the accompanying drawings, and or pictures, are very helpful.While familiar with the M.E.T.s, having this book as a reference for all the upper body muscles, and their positioning for the best M.E.T. applications, is very rewarding. I'd recommend this book highly to anyone that has a basic understanding of the therapeutic aspects of massage and M.E.T.s. Clinical Application of Neuromuscular Techniques - Vol. I
This is a really clearly written, concise book, with drawings and pictures of muscle positions, trigger points, etc.I bought the Jane Travell Myofascial Pain and Dysfunction Books before this one came out, and for the money wish I had bought the Clinical Application of Neuromuscular Tech. Book.Unless you are a Physician, who wants to inject the patient's trigger points with a saline solution, and then you better be very exact in your aim with the needle, I think the Clinical Application of Neurom. Tech. Book is a much more practical, useful, hands on,straight forward book that addresses all the trigger points, origins and insertions of the muscles in a very user friendly way.Until this book came out, Jane Travell's was the only great reference guide; but what patient really likes injections?Now this book surpasses Dr. Travells, in that all the material in it is useful and usable.Can't wait for Vol. II, Lower Body, to come out. ... Chiropractic is Universal
This is an excellent book.It's a must for anyone beginning chiropractic study to know what chiropractic is all about.This book is a good reference for some portions of Chiropractic Principles for Part 2 of the National Chiropractic Boards.

I found the Dr. Haldemans book to be a good book. Not the greatest, as certain things were a bit dated but all around an interesting read. An excellent overview...
Dr. Haldeman has written a balanced and thorough overview of the chiropractic profession. It is somewhat dated but a medical literature search will quickly bring you up to speed as he continues to publish extensively in journals such as Spine. Needs more...
I disagree with the many reviews which compare this text to White's Human Osteology. While there is no doubt that the text is informative and the treatment of the subject thorough, Scheuer's text lacks enough illustrations to make it worth the buy for practical use in identifying fragmented juvenile or infant remains. White's text provides at least one photo and description of each bone, usually from every angle. When Scheuer releases a second addition, with far less text, and more photos or illustrations for osteologists who do not have access to a skeletal collection of juvenile and infant bones, then it will be worth the buy.

A must-have reference book
This is a first rate holistic treatment of sub-adult osteology.The text covers the entire juvenile skeleton.Chapters contain drawings of each skeletal element, descriptions of growth, unique developmental attributes and in some cases, illustration of the element through different growth stages to see the sequence of changes of the bone up to adulthood.Read more

A history of America's best-kept secret
With a limited understanding of osteopathic medicine's roots, I set on a crash course to find an osteopathic medical history book similar to what a Kenneth Ludmerer's "Time to Heal" did for the history of medicine itself.And with Norman Gevitz's book, I was surely not disappointed.One would think that as a book recommended by the AOA and written by a osteopathic medical school professor, the book would be slanted.However, Gevitz does a great job at maintaining neutrality as a historian while demonstrating a certain degree of candidness, particularly about M.D./D.O. relations and the future of osteopathic medicine.Despite my ecstasy for this book, I do feel that there are certain portions of this book that can be further elaborated (reasoning behind the four-star rating).For example, I would like it if more material was included about osteopathic medicine between 1960 and today.Specifically, Gevitz seems to gloss over the political and social reverberations behind Henry Kissinger's monumental decision to admit D.O.s in the military as equals to M.D.s.Nevertheless, I thought the book was very well written and has definitely sparked an interest into one of this nation's best-kept secrets. ... Outstanding!!
Dr. Greenman conveys his tremendous knowledge very well in his 2nd edition text. After taking courses given by the author this book exemplifies his expertise in the realm of manual medicine specifically muscle energytechniques. A MUST have for anyone serious about improving their manualskills!!!!

Useful for the practicing physician and student
Pretty good book though I was surprised about the author's comment about the late, great osteopath Larry Jones who actually developed positional release through strain/counterstrain.I remember Larry as being a friendly, helpful chap who was much more flexible regarding his techniques rather than the rigid clinician that the author describes. Regardless, the British Osteopath Chaitow goes into details of the various positional release techniques such as strain/counterstrain, functional release etc. which helps clarifies all the terminology. Chaitow also has a video which is a good acompaniment to the book. Kind of wish I had this for the boards.

On a very complete way, once more, Chaitow shows on Positional Release Techiniques important ways to restablish functional state of different structure, such as muscle spasm, enhacing circulation and more. Incredible book
This book is absolutly incredible. It had me drawn in from page one. Dr. Upldeger writes in a way that is fun, easy to understand and intreguing. It opened a whole new world to me. There are a few ideas that seemed a little "out there" but as I took one of the upledger classes and as I've used Craniosacral Therapy in my practice I have seen that the body has no limits...and anything is possible. Not a simple read!
This book is not so much a book on Craniosacral therapy technique as an indepth anatomy textbook.Upledger explores in great detail each of the cranial nerves, the structure of the neck (focusing much attention on the hyoid bone), and the TMJ.He uses medical terminology and an information-dense writing style.Fortunately, there are well labeled diagrams on nearly every page to correspond with the text and illustrate what is being discussed.I found several useful pieces of information to improve the use of Craniosacral therapy with my clients, but I had to search to find these pieces.This is a book I will have to read over and over--not necessarily because I enjoyed the book, but because it has so much information it is difficult to absorb in one reading.I recommend the book if Craniosacral work is a significant part of your bodywork practice and you need more information for working in clinical situations.Be warned!It is not a book you can just keep on your shelf and pull out to quickly look something up in the middle of a therapy session.It is a book to be studied. ... This book is an excellent source for information on learning the bones, how to side them, and many other interesting aspects of osteology.

Great for beginning and experienced osteopaths.
This is the long awaited basic textbook for osteopathic medicine.It is surprisingly complete, covering philosophy, history, research, and manipulative techniques.The beginning osteopathic student may find itmost useful for its practical discussion on the techniques--high velocity,myofascial release, etc. I believe it is also helpful in standardizing ourterminology, which will make it easier when taking board exams or talkingwith colleagues from other osteopathic schools.It includes contributorswell known within the osteopathic community, including Michael and WilliamKuchera, Melicien Tettambel,Eileen DiGiovanna, and many others.As a family practice resident I frequently turn to this textbook first whenI want to know more about how to treat a patient or when preparing lecturesfor students and housestaff.

The osteopathic manipulative therapy bible!
This text is actually required reading for most if not all osteopathic medical students.It is a 'textbook', however, and hence completely (sometimes exhaustively!) comprehensive. But it is easy to read so thatanyone with an interest in OMT will get a methodic how-to for myriadtechniques, also a thorough history of osteopathic medicine to boot!Oneof my OMT professors at the University of Health Sciences College ofOsteopathic Medicine wrote or co-wrote a few of the chapters so of course,I think those are the best! Positional Release Therapy
This is the most must have, useful book I own.Techniques in this books were used on me by my Physical Therapist.I was on high doses of very strong pain medication.Through techniques used in this book, I no longer need to sleep with a cervical collar, my sciocita is fixed, as well as many other areas of my body that were in constant severe pain.I now take little and no pain medication.Positional Release Therapy along with other simple aids have helped me get back to a more normal life.The book is written so clear that a person without medical knowledge can effectively use the procedures.The good thing is you can't mess something else up by doing it wrong.You follow the directions and pictures until you get it right.Surgery was recommended by doctors on my back and this is now not a necessary option for me.

clinically helpful
Although I've only taken one strain/counterstrain course (for the extremities) I use this text frequently in the clinic.The photos are clear and I can easily duplicate the positions for the neck/back although I've had no specific course instruction on those areas.Many times the techniques from this book have helped when other things haven't worked.Definitely worth checking this one out.

Great text to learn chiropractic technique
I recently graduated chiropractic college and found this book to be one of the main sources to help me learn chiropractic technique.The pictures are great.It shows you how to set up and what the direction of torque is.I used this to study for the National Boards Part 2, 3 and 4.It also has a great section on how show how to translate a PRS-SP Gonstead listing into a National or Medicare listing.This section alone helped me a lot on the boards.I also used the following study guides for the preparing for the Chiropractic National Boards: "The Book Rules"
Ok, I have not "yet" finished Dr. Bergman's compilation.However, I must say that I have a unique insight into its origins, namely its editor, Thomas Bergmann.As a student of Northwestern Health Sciences University, I am privilaged to attend Dr. Bergmann's Methods III lecture and laboratory several times a week.I also am fortunate enough to sit in on his Principles and Philosophy of Chiropractic lectures.These experiences have taught me a great deal about Chiropractic science and practice in just a short few weeks as a trimester 3/10 student here at NWHS.I have learned a lot so far and continue to learn more every day.I believe Dr. bergmann to be a giant in the field of Chiropractic Technique.While my opinion may be swayed a bit and my history in the field limited, this is my opinion.Don't believe me?Buy the book!!!!!!!

Basic Chiropractic technique made easy...
This book is in use for the Chiropractic course in Odense, Denmark, as a textbook on chiropractic technique in the 5.th and 6.th semester of the 10 semester university programme.
