5-0 out of 5 stars Required reading for anyone touched by cancer.
Dr. Simon's book addresses many of the issues that are so often not dealt with by modern conventional cancer treatment centers.Too often cancer patient feel as if their real needs are not being met by doctors and hospitals.Dr. Simon focuses on treating the person, not just the diseasse. His books creates an entirely new perspective for the cancer patient by simply remembering that they are a person. He addresses the emotional issues cancer patients face as well as treatments for common side effects caused by conventional treatment. His advice on nutrition, sensory tools for healing, and assessing alternative treatment modalities is easily succint, but very insightful. Futthermore, his five day seminar lets you explore these issues much deeper.Realizing that I am much more than the sum of my phsyical parts is an important gift that Dr. Simon has helped to give me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quality life with Cancer
This phenomenal book is a must have in a library of self-care literature. It reads easily and resonates with truth, leaving a profound impact. I recently returned from a week seminar with Dr. David Simon at the Deepak Chopra Wellness Institute in La Jolla,CA.My personal experience was transformational.I not only walked away with concrete, tangible tools to work with my cancer, I also deepened my relationship with myself and was taught many loving ways to embrace and empower myself through this difficult time in my life.5-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive
Dr. Simon has shared insights into healing that take into account the coventional and integrative approaches to healthcare. He reminds us that we have entered into a phase of medicine that needs to consider a person's conscious awareness of health, so the appropriate modalities of care can be administered. David Simon utilizes eastern and western knowledge to make his work thorough and comprehensive. He takes into account the need for practicioners to be sensetive to the direction(s) a patient finds meaningful in their movement toward wholeness. This emphasis on consciousness incorporated in healthcare is a movement toward modern medicine paralleling the evolution of our time.I also recommend: What the Dying Teach Us: Lessons on Living by Samuel Oliver ... 5-0 out of 5 stars very valuable
As we age, many of us fall into the habit of shallow or effortfull breathing, and then find it impossible to simply breathe easily and deeply on a regular basis. In order to return to natural breathing, you'll first want to know exactly what natural breathing is and isn't.In 'The Tao of Natural Breathing' Dennis Lewis describes the mechanics of breathing and all that's involved in a natural breath.Dennis gently guides you through a "perceptual reeducation", so you can begin to become aware of your own breathing pattern - where it flows easily, and where it doesn't - and start making changes in the right direction.Natural breathing is one of the pillars on which my work as a vision educator rests, and Dennis' guidance has been very valuable to me.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Single Best Resource Currently Available
I'm glad to see my firend and colleague Dennis Lewis' seminal book back in print. For anyone wishing to explore the wonders of their own breathing mechanism, I can unreservedly recommend "The Tao of Natural Breathing."
1-0 out of 5 stars heady, but not very practical
Although Mr. Lewis is knowledgeable and sincere enough, he seems to get lost in his own Taoistic/Gurdjieffian philosophizing about breathing and being. He tries to put too much into this book and the result is academic, rather than useful.Strip away all the excess philosophy, and what is left is an over-condensed rehash, mostly, of the first level of Mantak Chia's Healing Tao work, with some experiential Gurdjieff work mixed in.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Beginner's Book
There are so many books about Ayurveda now and this is still my favorite to introduce the topic to new people. The illustrations are great, the explanations straightforward and yet there is still a nice depth to her knowledge. 3-0 out of 5 stars Stillhard to grasp
First let me say, I had 3 books on this topic and none ofthem were as good as this one.Of the ones I've seen this is the best at trying to understand the concepts here but I must admit I'm still a bit lost. There are great pictures throughout as well as some exercises to figure out what profile you are (I also found one on the web that was a bit better).I'm only giving it 3 stars because I think the information needs to be linked together better but like I said, its the best book I've found so far.So, for the beginner I'd look around but if you don't find another that appeals to you then come back and try out this one.I think its very complete, its just difficult information to convey.

5-0 out of 5 stars a great beginner's book
I love this book.I even lent it out and forgot who it got passed around to and re-bought it.The way this book is laid out makes it so easy to reference. It is not a book for the student who has lots of knowledge/experience.For the lay-person it is a must. Also it makes a great gift. This is the book which expanded my interest in Ayurveda (and yoga).I refer to it often when I fall off track. It provides a dosha assessment test and an extensive list of foods along with some important recipes. Also it is a great book to flip through when you need to be reminded of some important dos and don'ts of eating, exercise, sleeping habits, etc. This was the best [$$] I ever invested. Or...RE-invested, that is. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A deepening of our understanding of energy medicine.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. As an acupuncturist and bodyworker, I found the material very relevant to my practice, as well as offering insights into my understanding of the energetic systems of healing withinthe body. The book integrates the energies involved with healing all levelsof our being: the mind, body, emotions and Spirit. This text is a stepforward in the deepening of our understanding of the energetic terrain thatdetermines who and what we are and how we can bring about balance in ourown lives as well as that of the planet. At the end of each chapter arevarious kinds of exercises that, if followed, give the reader an experienceof the differing dynamics of bodily energetics. The book has a nice blendof theory, practical application, and personal experiences that made it ajoy to read. I highly recommend it. ... Read more

This book tells it like it is.I've always known the mind and body were profoundly connected - but I had never fully realized how my "self-talk" could affect my health.I no longer use phrases like, "My back is killing me!" Thanks so much to Barbara for her insights and for sharing her personal challenges with the world.

5-0 out of 5 stars Connection, compassion and depth
Plant Spirit Medicine speaks of the elements of nature, the plants, shamanism, and healing. Cowan's integrity, wisdom and humor is apparent throughout. I first read this book 7 years ago. It changed my life, opening me up to a world where healing, love and compassion are always flowing from the plants and other aspects of nature. This book speaks of one man's journey and opens the doors to allow you to make your own journey and find your own path.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awaken your own shamanic capabilities
This book is an accessible, sincere and inspired guide for anyone who is curious about how to recover the human's innate ability to be in communication with the non-human world - which apparently just awaits our intention to do so.Eliot Cowan shares his own fascinating journey of discovery in a way that also offers to the reader ideas for how to do the same. His message is not, "look at me, I have special abilities," but "look into yourself and see what is there just waiting to be revived."The disastrous psychological, ecological and spiritual situation humans find themselves in as a result of having stopped engaging in "the great conversation" with nature, as author Thomas Berry puts it, can begin to heal if we try hard, now, to apply ourselves to the wisdom available in such books as Plant Spirit Medicine. We have a responsibility to read and utilize such information as Eliot Cowan makes available here.--Tayria Ward, Ph.D.

2-0 out of 5 stars HOPING TO FIND ADVENCE TECH
I BOUGHT IT FROM LOOKING AT HIGH STAR RATING, HOPING TO LEARN MORE ADVENCE AMMA TECHNICS AND TO MY DISAPPOINT, IT HAVE A VERY LITTLE AND BASIC TECH. WITH LOT OF TCM THEORY. THE MODERN AMMA IS VERY CLOSE TO THE SWEDISH AND THE DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE TOGETHER, PRACTICED WITH OR WITHOUT TCM THEORY. THE MODERN AMMA IS NOT DESIGN TO BE CLINICAL, RATHER PLAIN MASSAGE. THIS AMMA THERAPY IS NOTHING MORE THAN AMMA PLUS TCM THEORY,MAKING IT MORE CONFUSING AND MADE AMMA THERAPY AS REGISTERED MARK IS LIKE SOME HOW I PUT SWEDISH MASSAGE AND TCM THEORY TOGETHER, MAKING IT SWEDISH THERAPY WITH REGISTERED MARK AND NOBODY CAN USE THAT NAME WITHOUT MY PERMISSION. BUT THE QUESTION IS CAN I DO THAT. IF I DID THAT SOMEONE WILL BEAT THE DAYLIGHT OUT OF ME.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nearly excellent
The text is well written though the organization of the material leaves a bit to be desired. It covers a large body of information about massage therapy, acupuncture and AMMA well though it could be better indexed. The subject by definition follows the flow of nature while the text does not. The structure of the chapters could have a more evolving continuity. As an example point information is distributed throughout the text without an area for general overview. Masters can use this for reference well but beginners are at a loss to find the "meridians" connecting chapter to chapter. I look forward to the next edition.

Just think of the millions and millions of dollars the world is spending to create chemicals, medicine for relaxation. Seems to be one of the most important things for people in these days. This book shows no-chemical ways to reduce stress and bring people back to a natural state of relaxation, which we have almost forgotten about.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply the best book there is on this topic.

5-0 out of 5 stars Informative, Enjoyable Tome
This book is on my shelf next to Ultraprevention, another winner in the introductory holistic genre. Quite frankly, it's amazing how most of us have the power to transform our health to optimal levels, yet so many are too skeptical, or dare I say too lazy, to do the simple things needed...eat well, keep the mind clear, etc. The solution to the problem of disease does not always have to be complicated. Nutrition especially has the potential to be as potent as medication, without the side effects.
4-0 out of 5 stars American Holistic Association Guide& The Winkle Cure
These books were required reading in my Holistic practice.I found both these books very informative.I put to practice some information found in the Wrinkle Cure book and have been getting comments that I now look 40 when in actuallity I am 62.I have been able to pass this information onto some of my patients and they are trying it on themselves. The American Holistic Association Guide reinforced some of the teachings that I had just finished in getting my degree in the Holistic Method of healing. Both books were very interesting.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best overview of holistic therapies I've ever read
I couldn't disagree more with the reviewer who called this book a rehash of Burton Goldberg's Alternative Medicine: The Definitive Guide (which I also highly recommend). Yes, the Guide is a wonderful book, and for that matter, Trivieri, the author of this book, also served as the editor and writer for the Guide. But to call his book a "rehash" couldn't be farther from the truth. I have read over a hundred books on the subject of holistic healing/alternative medicine, and never before have I read a book that so wonderfully explains the major therapies of holistic medicine and what it means to be healthy in "body, mind, and spirit," the way Trivieri's book does. The therapies he writes about here are covered in far more depth than in the Definitive Guide, and they are explained in a manner that makes them far more understandable and credible to readers who are unfamiliar with them. The chapter on Yoga alone was an eye opener for me. What I also like about this book are the many studies cited in support of each therapy, as well as the case histories that beautifully illustrate how effective they can be.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Available
This is the most comprehensive yet systematic, accessible, and intelligent book I've read on IBS (I had read 7-8 others before finding this one). You can waste much time and money on all sorts of herbal and medicinal products as well as alternative therapies with absolutely no gain--in fact, in many cases you may decide you feel worse.5-0 out of 5 stars Collaboratively written by digestive disorder specialists
Collaboratively written by digestive disorder specialists Dr. William Salt and Dr. Neil Neimark, and now available in a fully revised and updated new edition, Irritable Bowel Syndrome And The MindBodySpirit Connection is an invaluable, hope-giving, practical, non-specialist general reader friendly guide offering seven specific steps to improving one's quality of life and health when living with a functional bowel disorder, Crohn's Disease or colitis. Individual chapters focus on using the power of emotional and psychological attitude as well as more traditionally important habits of proper diet, exercise, water drinking etc. A thoughtful and attentive book and an excellent supplement to a doctor's care, Irritable Bowel Syndrome And The MindBodySpirit Connection, with its practical and whole mind and body approach to maintaining good health, is important even to those who are fortunate enough to have compliantly regular bowels. A very highly recommended addition to personal and community library personal healthy and medical reference collections. ... Read more
