5-0 out of 5 stars very helpful
This book is like 3 books in one: one on theories behind macrobiotics, one on healing remedies through healing diets, and also one on key recipes. It's user-friendly layout can be read front to back or you can use the index in the back to look up specific ailments, remedies or concepts. There's also a self-referencing set up in that if a good food or recipe is mentioned in one of the chapters and is written in capitals, that means you can find the recipe in the back of the book. I got this book to simply develop my macro library, and I ended up not only healing a few aches and pains, but trying out a few new recipes that I now love. This book will always stay with me. It's useful to anyone at any stage of their macro adventures!

4-0 out of 5 stars good but late
Book was in great condition, but the seller didn't "see my order" for almost 2 weeks, but then finally sent it. More the fault of not checking email or the notification system or something, otherwise it was great!

5-0 out of 5 stars Insightful and empowering
It isn't written to offer dramatizations or win converts. This is a step-by-step manual for those who seek guidance to healing through macrobiotics. And you don't have to have a "condition" to benefit from the wealth of information found in this book. Use it for deeper understanding of your body's healing potential and see what it can do for you if you care to follow the advice. This book also offers guidelines on cooking and recipes, but buying a good cookbook as a companion will provide you with a well-rounded experience. Go ahead and try it. This is powerful stuff. ... Editorial Review

There are so many different kinds of bodywork available these days, many people find it hard to choose. Massage therapist and health writer Mirka Knaster's comprehensive book is a good place to start. She covers just about everything in both the Eastern and Western traditions--from various types of yoga, martial arts, and massage to newer practices such as Rolfing and the Alexander Technique to esoteric movement and touching practices of which most people have never even heard. The one thing all these techniques have in common is that they seek to bring healing and self-discovery through physical practices. "Many people first turn to bodyways because the pain of an injury or chronic condition forces them to seek alternatives," Knaster writes. "The other motivation ... comes from a natural drive toward healthy or optional functioning." Either way, she says, these practices help us overcome our disconnection from our body and our feelings.Read more

This book is a no frills, frank discussion of the use of essiac to build up the immune system so the body can fight cancer and many other immune related diseases. The history of the discovery of native use of essiac byRene Caisse and how she was able to use it successfully to help a largenumber of people is very encouraging to potential users of essiac today.Ihave purchased several copies of this book and given them away to cancersufferers who have immediately began using the tea with great trust andhope. The odds of being helped by essiac presented in this book are so muchbetter than most cancer patients could imagine that they are eager to tryit.Every cancer patient should read this book and then make up their mindabout how they wish to combat their disease! ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Useful and worth reading
I learned of this book at a lecture on Ayurvedic medicine, which was the first time I had heard about these practices.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Path of Practice
I wish I could read this book aloud to cancer sufferers. Written as part memoir, part how-to guide, The Path of Practice is a conversational, self-described "course in healing and in living." Bri Maya maintains that "all pain is a reminder that we have strayed from the natural rhythms of life," and this book acts as a guiding light to bring us back.
5-0 out of 5 stars Ancient wisdom
It is not a book for the faint of heart, neither is it right for those who desire definite and concrete answers to their lives problems. While Bri Maya Tiwari offers a full richness of ancient Ayurvedic practices which may lead to deep insights they are far from what our Western culture would define as definite. Nothing is definite or concrete when you open your heart and mind to the wisdom of your own inner self. It is a very feminine quality which leads one to intuitive learning from our very own heart. If you are looking for ways to connect with the wisdom of your deeper self through finding your ancestral roots and your connection to the Divine Mother you may find the book helpfull. Bri Maya's journey opened the doors which my culture kept shut for over one thousand years, the doors to the the vast ocean of universal knowledge (knowledge that does not rely purely on reason) that dwells within us and is available to an ardent seeker. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Wise, compassionate look at consciousness & healing
Larry Dossey is a prolofic writer and researcher on holistic healing, and in this book he assembles a number of articles and essays in support of a cohesive concept.Dossey invites the reader to explore the power of consciousness for healing transformation. The different sections in the book sometimes refer to scientific theories and research, some of which would usually be considered in the realm of parapsychology, such as remote influencing, healing with prayer, non-local telepathic communication, etc. However, the focus is more on how these concepts can be applied in our lives to bring about healing.Dossey helps us peer beyond the veil of illusion we call "reality" to help us connect with the source of our being and the power of mind/consciousness to transform.Having practiced mind-body/enegy medicine approaches such as hypnosis, reiki, and neuromodulation technique, I have experienced the power of the non-local consciousness to create healing shifts in a manner that would appear magical or unbelievable to those convinced of the solid, objective nature of perceived reality. It is much easier to "bend spoons" when one lets go of the illusion that there is any objective spoon in the first place!Enjoy this book and begin to put into practice the ideas and methods that unlock the power of consciousness.

5-0 out of 5 stars NEW DEFINITION OF CONCIOUSNESS
This collection of essays examines how thoughts and emotions affect our bodies and the bodies of others at a distance. It is an insightful look at the relationship between science and "unscientific" topics like prayer, love, laughter, work, creativity, dreams and more, an examination of consciousness and spirituality in medicine. Everybody knows that something vital is missing in modern allopathic medicine - the role of the human mind. The author points out the deep level of ignorance within science about the origin, function and destiny of human consciousness. But at last we are moving toward a vision of consciousness that liberates the mind from its identification with the physical brain and body. Of course, the implications for medicine are vast. He refers to the ideas of Jung, Ken Wilber, Erwin Schrdinger, David Bohm and Rupert Sheldrake and makes a valid case for the fact that our power to heal and be healed extends beyond our physical bodes. The essays fall into the three categories Meaning, Mind and Nonlocality, and the book concludes with a bibliography, a section on sources and an index. This is a classic and I recommend it to all who are interested in holistic or spiritual healing and those want to take responsibility for their own health.

5-0 out of 5 stars The mystery of life
Larry Dossey discusses the mystery of life and how consciousness is related to all of the physical things in the world. He does a superb job in explaining the wonders of the soul. Although is work is always inspiring, this book is especially so. It tells us that everything including consciousness is connected in a convincing way. For another astonishing book with a slightly different take on the subject, I'd highly recommend "The Ever-Transcending Spirit" by Toru Sato. It is also a tremendously insightful book! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An essential reference book for women's natural healing
Stein has successfully condensed into one book natural remedy information that would take years of reading otherwise. It is a tremendously valuable book for any woman (or man). Her choice of format is extremely practical as a layperson's reference book - each chapter addresses an ailmentfollowed by the application of the healing modalities (ie homeopathy, accupressure, emotional healing). This gives the reader the ability to choose which ones they like best or to use several to support each other. She covers complaints from PMS, vaginal warts, systemic candida to thinning hair, depression and asthma. When I have a friend who is sick I find it is the first book I pull off the shelf ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A must have text for anyone treating neuromuscular pain
This is a comprehensive yet clinically accessible text. It welcomes readers with differing backgrounds to come aboard and comfortably absorb new vistas presented without ever taking them too far from their own medical perspectives. It covers Oriental Medicine in its entirety (acupuncture and related techniques, herbal medicine, and body work), Cyriax style Orthopaedic medicine, Osteopathic manual medicine, electrotheraputics, rehabilitation and orthosis therapy. It builds upon fundamental concepts as well as summarizes and encapsulates extensive information. In short this is both a comprehensive text and a clinical manual that every reader regardless of training would find informative
5-0 out of 5 stars A Comprehensive and Balanced Text
This book provides healthcare practitioners a balanced text that comprehensively covers the topic of musculoskeletal medicine. In this text East meets west, orthodox meets alternative and somatic meets visceral in a clinically useful text. The book is much more than a how-to-manual by offering insights built upon foundational concepts. It provides a vehicle to transport medical understanding beyond common boundaries and to introduce key concepts about the impact of the musculoskeletal system in diagnosis and treatment in a user-friendly fashion. Clinicians will appreciate the even-handed overview of several healthcare systems and immense clinical utility of the text. While the text draws upon an eclectic range of ideas, it does so while remaining true to Chinese, Osteopathic, and Orthopaedic Medicine principles.

1-0 out of 5 stars I'm sure they had good intentions, but...
When I found this title at my local bookstore, I was excited by the concept of it, but I didn't have to flip through it for long before I was taken aback by the negative tone and lack of trust in the process of pregnancy and childbirth. (Much like the overrated "What to Expect..." series, unfortunately!)2-0 out of 5 stars Not so "Holistic" than the title says
I order this book right after I bought another holistic pregnancy book "The Natural Pregnancy Book" by Aviva Jill Romm (I strongly recommend this book for anyone who is seriously intersted in natural andholistic pregnancy). Unlike Romm's "natural" approach to thepregnancy, this book seems a little too preachy and less"holistic" and "natural" than I expected. It has toomuch of the "official outlines" from the traditional medicalpractices and rather than encouraging and celebrating prengancy, theyoveremphasize on the threat of miscarriage and do not provide enoughinformation for preventing it. It gives a general overview of holistictreatment and what goes on during pregnancy, so I think this is an okaybook for those who just heard of "holistic treatment" but don'tknow what they really are. I was dissapointed overall and I wouldn'trecommend this book to anyone who is looking into a good natural/holisticpregnancy book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Resource
I study Herbal Medicine via correspondance & this is one of my text books. It is the most complete reference to Herbalism I have come across to date yet still worded in a way that the average person can understand & relate to.I wouldn't suggest the Herbal section for too much in depth research as he does leave a lot of herbs out, but the herbal info he has included is beyond comparison. This is definately a fantastic resource & general reading book for all those interested in making the world a better place, not only is it a great reference guide, Hoffman's spiritual views are something to make the average Baby Boomer ashamed.I recommend this for anyone with an open & honest mind.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great book for summarizing Shaklee philosophy
In my Shaklee business, I constantly hear about how our company utilizes products in harmony with nature. Here is a book that helps to give information on the natural forms of healing!Great book!

5-0 out of 5 stars The book I end up going to every time I need information.
I have many books dealing with herbs including many of the classics. This book is my "classic". No book gives the depth of information with a complete understanding of why a particular herb is used. Even thoughthere are many herbs listed here that are not from North America, Mr.Hoffman has a variety to choose from and I've always been able to find whatI need. It is concise and yet gives detailed information. Using it as areference also teaches you about each herb's action on various systems inthe body. "The Herbal" section is the most complete source ofinformation for each individual herb that I've found yet. I highlyrecommend this book to be at your fingertips as a source for herbalmedicine. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Complete Holistic Dog Book: Home Health Care for Our Canine Companions
Excellent book Well Written. Great format, great philosophy well researched.
5-0 out of 5 stars A must-have for every serious dog owner!
Fabulous book!!It is packed with information, but easy to understand and apply.I found the book to be very balanced and subjective in it's approach and advice. For example, it fairly presents the pros/cons of different diet approaches, without specifically recommending a "one size fits all" solution. All chapters of the book are valuable, but the section on diet and nutrition is particularly outstanding!Since reading the book, I have adopted a diet of home-cooked meals for my german-shepherd-mutt that is virtually 100% vegetarian!Seeing the way she responded to the new diet has converted many of my friends into believers who were total skeptics of a vegetarian diet.Although my dog was always healthy and happy, the changes are unbelievable in terms of her temperament, appearance and personality.
5-0 out of 5 stars The one book I reference consistently
I have a variety of books on health for dogs, which I reference often. I noticed lately, however, that I've gone to this book first over and over and often I don't need to look at any of my other books. I usually cross reference material, but I've found valididated information from several other sources in this book so often that I save myself the trouble and just reference this book now.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ahead of its time
This is the best book on the subject that I have ever seen, and I've seen a lot.In a universe of high quality books, this one stands out as exceptional.
5-0 out of 5 stars Never though diet & nutrition could be so groovy
Required reading is never fun, but I've been sucked in to this book through my more-holistic health leaning anatomy & physiology course.
5-0 out of 5 stars in response to "A Reader"'s concerns (1998)...
Considering that many (all?) of the ideas presented in Dr. B's book are age-old, tried and true... no, I think you need not be concerned in the least about them being 'outdated'.I also happen to know Dr. B and have been treated by him on occasion, as a child (at the 'tute -- the same place where this book was published, actually). He knows his stuff. So there you go, a personal testimony, even. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Cultivation of Our Yin Energy is Something That We All Need!
Many of the BIG problems in Health, Psychology and Relationships can be said to originate in an excess of Yang energy. Not just the excesses of aggression, winning, and dominating, but the whole frenetic race toward ever more energy draining and attenton demanding multi-tasking. Our society is becoming progressively more hypomanic and it sometimes seems that it is only a matter of time before everyone will start to show symptoms of attention deficit disorder! Some of the illnesses that are becoming more prevalent, including some of the disorders of immune function, digestion and thermoregulation, can also be thought of as consequences of a rampantand unbalanced Yang force.

4-0 out of 5 stars Informative and helpful.....
In HOLISTIC CARE FOR BIRDS, authors McCluggage and Higdon address preventative care as well as spiritual and emotional healing. They begin with a brief overview of `bird keeping' - Different birds have different needs..Not all birds like to be petted while others may become miserable without constant affection. Sometimes the difference is species specific, other times it is related to the bird's treatment by previous owners. 5-0 out of 5 stars One of the BEST bird books I've read!
I LOVE this book! I use it as a reference guide, and I find it easy to read, logical, and very very helpful! PLEASE BUY THIS BOOK IF YOU OWN A BIRD!
