Great ready reference for mother's who don't like to pump their children with antibiotics and would prefer to try a natural remedy first

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good
This is a very good reference for natural remedies, however, I was hoping it would have some information about immunizations and it did not.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have!
This book was given to me as a gift and it truly is a gift that keeps on giving.I have referenced this book often and used many of the herbal remedies on myself with much success. This book is easy to read and is packed with information on safe use of healing plants.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great night time book!
This is very nice bed time reading that makes you want to stay awake and read on to the next entry. I love the different angles for each Torah portion which gives the feeling of a very good Torah discussion. All the insightful commentary in this book brings out the beauty of the Torah. I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in learning more about Judaism and anyone who wants add more insight to their weekly Torah study.

5-0 out of 5 stars I don't ordinarily comment on what another reader says, but...
I was stunned by Mr. Hinkle's criticism that this book is "Judeacentric."Well, a Rabbi writing about a book that is central to our religion - what did he expect? If he wants a balanced viewpoint, he should read a comparable book by an academic scholar of religion. I would never dream of criticizing a Christian scholar for writing from a Christian standpoint, a Buddhist writing from a Buddhist standpoint, etc.Allow we Jews the same courtesy, Mr. Hinkle.

3-0 out of 5 stars Insights into contemporary Jewish theology
As a Christian, the Old Testament, including the Torah, is part of my heritage. I purchased this book to glean more interpretive insights into these pivotal five books from someone who did not interpret them through the lens of Christianity, but from a pure Jewish perspective, in order to broaden my horizons. While gleaning much of worth, the book is so Judeaocentric that I felt more like an eavesdropper than an engaged reader. I found it interesting that Christians haven't cornered the market on guilt-mongering, because there is plenty of that here, directed toward the more religiously lax Jews. Until an enterprising rabbi can write an exposition on the Torah for a general (not just Jewish) readership, this book will have to fit the bill. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The possibilities
This book is an investigation of what is possible in the area of energetic healing. For anyone who has ever wanted to help really heal another being, this touches the core of that calling and resonates with a deep knowing that this potential can be activated. No hype, no glossy, no woo-woo, it is straight, genuine and truly inspiring.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cream of the Crop
If you are new to Emotional Freedom Techniques, this book is for you. Having used EFT for awhile now, this book is the best that I have read on the subject. Its clear that the Mountrose's did indeed put their heart and soul into this one. It is well written, clear in detail, and well organized. From the essence of EFT, exploring the depths of the mind, to the special challenges and opportunities, this writing is upbeat and easy to read in spite of the complexity of material. The last part of this book by the EFT Experts illustrates the many ways that EFT can be used in the field of holistic medicine. If you're new to this technique or need a thorough refresher, this is the place to get it. ... Read more

Editorial Review

"We promote wellness, longevity, radiance, and bliss when we follow simple, nurturing practices," says Horst Rechelbacher, the founder of Aveda, the natural, aromatherapy-based, hair-, skin-, and body-care products line. In addition to heading Aveda, he is also an environmental activist and a seeker who has studied the world's spiritual and self-healing traditions. He says the key to wellness, inner harmony, and beauty is a process that is eased by returning to nature and to the wisdom of the oldest cultures and rituals.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
Yes it has product endorsements, but it also recommends other things.it is a book that each time i read, gives me clarity, and helps me relax.great book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply exceptional!
Mr. Rechelbacher's book features ideas to help beautify your life from the inside, out. Both his writing style and the book layout is easy to read.He is very good about "suggesting" changes in your lifestyle, and with each change he suggests, he talks in detail about how such a change could benefit your life, health, and/or appearance. He uses his own rituals as a starting point, but encourages the reader to develop their own personal rituals. He does not shamelessly plug his own products (as some authors are wont to do).He even admits to not following his own advice occasionally!I especially liked his chapters on self-massage (something I'd never even considered), nutrition, and refreshing yourself mid-day.5-0 out of 5 stars Horst:Beyond Beauty & New Age Psychobable
Horst Rechelbacher was my hairdresser in 1968.In 2001; he has touched the lives of many, not just w/his excellent product line -- but because he is charisma. He is a complex person, so it's best for the reader to focus on the philosophy he expounds in this book rather than try to write his bio -- which many of his devotees would love to do.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A triple threat
"Eat Taste Heal" is so much more then an ayurvedic cookbook.
5-0 out of 5 stars A guided journey into Ayurveda
This is not "just" a cookbook but also a concise and excellent guide to the principles of Ayurveda. The authors take the principles further than other texts by, for example, helping the reader diagnose their own Ayurvedic type (dosha) and then having each recipe list which types of person that particular dish is appropriate for. The co-authors are the perfect narrators for this book; one being a doctor, one a patient, and one a chef. Each of them have their own story of how they came to 'find' Ayurveda which makes this book that much more powerful. The pictures are some of the most incredible food photography I have come across. It is evident they have put a great deal into work into this book. I've given it as a gift to myself and many of my friends and family. Enjoy.

5-0 out of 5 stars The most used cookbook on my shelf
I felt compelled to write a review of this book because it has been such a great addition to my life.

5-0 out of 5 stars If Children Came With A Care-Manual -- This Would Be It!!
The Child Health Guide is hands down the best, holistic book on pregnancy & parenting that I have found yet. I'm still learning stuff that I didn't know -- stuff that helps with my 15 year old!!
5-0 out of 5 stars One of the ONLY TWO children's health books you need
If you're someone who finds yourself inexorably drawn to living the healthy life and want the best for your child's health, you should consider buying this book. It's the most concise, accurate treatise I've seen on the subject of children's health. In fact, I intend to buy 10 copies and give them out to friends and relatives as they have kids!
5-0 out of 5 stars forget all other books-this one first!!
Being holistic, I've been waiting a long time for one book to bring together so much vital information for new parents,I cannot recommend this book more--read this even before you get pregnant and before other baby books!! His resources are up to date and quite vast. Randall informs you of what testing, vaccines...and steps/procedures are and are not vital in those early days of your newborn....he tells you all about the covering of newborn mattresses...foods to feed and avoid at what ages (carrots not too early!). Please be aware this is NOT a "granola" book on parenting..if you can't breast feed...it is ok...he gives you recipes for awesome infant formulas...in the toxic world we live in today--this book is a must!! (his other book on vaccines is also essential reading) ... Read more

Editorial Review

Who can help asking "Why?" when they develop a disease? According to theologian and "medical intuitive" Caroline Myss, Ph.D., and co-worker C. Norman Shealy, M.D., who is a physician, neurosurgeon, and expert on pain and stress management, the answer goes further than a medical explanation. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Hmmm...
I was skeptical of this book at first but immediately was drawn into the teachings from two differently disciplined people with one theory. What makes the book seem more credible to me was that Shealy is a medical doctor interested in holistic teaching, while Myss studied spirituality and holistic teaching and applies it to the medical field. More than anything, I saw this book as a great stepping stone to where the medical sciences are bound to go in the coming of our "New" age.I think eventually this book and the ideas presented in it need to be taken (and will be taken)into serious consideration by the medical field, as the examples used were believable and things I have seen myself.3-0 out of 5 stars Interesting?Yes. Believable?Maybe.
While Myss and Shealy's book is interesting and thought provoking in that it introduces novel information regarding the mind-body connection, it lacks the scientific support that would make it entirely believable.Though the book's credibility is enhanced by the fact that Shealy is a medical doctor, there are far too many statements throughout that leave the reader wondering where the information came from and if it is backed by any research studies. Many valid points and theories are presented, however, they tend to be mixed in with very subjective and unsupported material.I would suggest that this book be used as a basic guideline for the current discourse about the connection between emotional, spiritual, and physical health, but that any information be further researched by consulting scholarly works in order to ensure its legitimacy.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Holistic" is Not a Technique
Myss and Shealy make clear that we are at a turning point in the diagnosis and understanding of disease. The trend in medicine to examine the influences of stress has retintroduced us to the knowledge that emotional tension is disruptive to the physical body."...this recognition that human emotions do indeed affect physical health," they write, "has brought the traditional medical world face to face with the fundamental principle of holistic health: The majority of physical illnesses result from an overload of emotional, psychological and spiritual crises." 5-0 out of 5 stars PSA Reversed
I had prostate cancer and chose radical prostatectomy for treatment.Prognosis was good eventhough my Gleasons had been 9 & 10. PSA should have remained zero, but began to climb two years after surgery.I studied Dr. Katz book, followed several of his recommendations, and within two months my PSA dropped from 15+ down to 13.7 and hopefully will continue in that direction. The book is very credible. His redcommendations are all backed up with good data and science.

3-0 out of 5 stars Holistic Health, but Allopathic in nature
A good book to use as a basic reference for those who believe holistic health is voo-doo or scary, but still a book that calls on the medical profession to define courses they don't understand.A better book on holistic health, and the combined approach of body, mind, and spirit, is "Forget The Cures, Find The Cause," which takes the reader through modalities in the alternative health field, but also incorporates the mind and spirit.

5-0 out of 5 stars Generous Author
This is a reference book and not really a text or descriptive reading. It is mainly a list, with terse but very useful commentary, of recipes for making helpful remedies. The ingredients are not all easily available in most North American towns. Many ingredients will not be easy to get, even at a proper Chinese herbal store.Still, the documentation is sufficiently useful that any resourceful person will be able to produce the described medicines.By making this available to a general audience, the author has given humanity a very great gift.I just hope we will use it properly. It can be a great help for an extremely broad range of medical needs.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good reference to formulas for treatment of injuries.
This book lists many formulas to concote pills, poltice and medicinal wine to treat injuriesarising from "falls and strikes" typically from martial art training. Some of the formulas however, are also useful to prepare and kept for use in household emergencies. A word of caution though, always see a doctor for serious injuries such as dislocations or broken bones. This is not a self treat book. For a non martial artist, I find that the formulas are especially useful in treating bruises and sprains.5-0 out of 5 stars Couldn't get the real thing better

This book was great, it really enlightened me to the mouth being the entry to the whole body.I will be going to an integrative, whole body dentist next!Definitely worth reading!

5-0 out of 5 stars Compelling Information about Whole Body Dentistry
This was a very informative and well written book about "alternative dentistry". Dr. Breiner explains the differences between traditional and whole body dentistry in easy to understand terms. He gave many examples of the types of health problems which can be related to amalgams, root canals, periodontal work, orthodontics and bridges and partials. He also described the kind of exam and treatment a whole body dentist would use. A great read.

Editorial Review

Victoria Moran wasn't always as slim and serene as she appears now. For 33 years, she "lunged" at food, bingeing and dieting, rarely losing weight for more than a few weeks at a time. Then 18 years ago, she adopted the principles of self-acceptance, self-nurturing, and spirituality she describes in this book--and lost 60 pounds for good. She learned to live without obsessing about either weight or food, relying on "grace and good sense."Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Take comfort in self-understanding (rather than in food!)
I always take a deep breathe before looking at a new book on controlling compulsive urges ... expecting either to be lectured at, made to feel guilty, or told a simple formula doomed to fail!Denise's book is very different and refreshing. The answer is not "less," but more:insight and healthy pleasures, as we learn to comfort ourselves in deeper and more longlasting ways. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Wow, I got better relief from Borders Cafe than a massage
I've been having back pain in the morning for the last few months after some furniture moving. I stopped at Borders for a coffee and picked this up to read (ok, I'm shameless). After about an hour with the book, I developed a game plan for dealing with the backache which I learned is of a very common garden type. It might be too early to declare victory but I woke this morning with almost no pain after sleeping in the prescribed position with a heating pad and taking a few NSAIDS before bed.
4-0 out of 5 stars Only one reservation - be careful doing the exercises.
Overall, a very informative book, as everyone else says. My only reservation - be careful doing the exercises in the book. The author also has a warning about this - he says "at no point during your back exercise program, should you feel that you are straining...to the point of significantly increasing your pain."

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding
This weekend at the urging of my sister, who has been using this book for several months and has FABULOUS skin (even though she's stopped using commercial products and going for facials) I followed Pratima's advice for 2 nights. First I should say i use expensive cleansers and have expensive facials. And I could not believe how my skin looked when i went to bed, just from following her advice. It looked like it did in my early 20's on the 2nd night - no joke (I'm 36)! The lines on my forehead had become barely noticeable, even to me, and my makeup went on very smoothly. Just want to say for the reviewers who complain that her commercial products have additives and chemicals - many of those chemicals might have been extracted from the foods you're using at home. Second, if she didn't add preservatives, they wouldn't last more than a few days and would have to be kept in the refrigerator, not on the shelf. It's unfortunate that if you want convenience you have to put up with the additives. If you have the time, and this book, you don't have to.

5-0 out of 5 stars A good natural & informative book
I was pleasantly surprised to read a book that has accurate, concise, and very informative solutions to everyday/seasonal Skincare issues.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great for beginners!
This book is for anybody who is interested in Ayurveda, at any level of knowledge. If you follow the regimes, it can be a bit expensive to start, but I feel it is worth it because you know what is going into your products.Pratima is very straight-forward, helpful, and knowledgable. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A wealth of information
This book was a wealth of information. It gave me a much more balanced view of what Reiki is, and a better look into the history of its origins. There are many spins on the root of Reiki, and this explains where some of those spins came from. This is not a how to book, but if you want a better understanding, this is a great book.

5-0 out of 5 stars What I call the Reiki Bible
This is top notch! No matter what your liniage is or your style of reiki, this book will be a benefit to your practice and will be refered to again and again. And if you are new to Reiki or just curious and want to learn, this book is ideal as it gives you insight of what Reiki consists of along with numerous techniques and information links for you to continue your studies. This and "The Japanese Art of Reiki" go hand in hand.
4-0 out of 5 stars A MUST HAVE - with caution
I must say that after finding this book, I can honestly recommend this read - with a certain amount of caution. Even though the book does a good job of describing what Usui taught and what Traditional Reiki is, and how it differs from Western Reiki, it is still written by Westerns trying to conceptualize Eastern thought.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing--not a quick read
This book is incredible. It's laid out with a lot of charts and pictures to assist what's being said. This is dense and a lot to go through, but I find that going that much in depth help wth unerstanding the complexity of the issues. A lot of material is summarized int his book, and I'd recomend it to anyone. In fact, I had to order two copies--the first copy I ordered went to my mother's house--who liked it so much that I had to order another copy for myself.

5-0 out of 5 stars For serious seekers and scholars of the occult
Like Dr, Stone's work, this might take a while to get through, but is worth the time.Read a little, meditate on it.This book is worth taking the time to properly digest. Also great for reference, great charts and diagrams.Great information on indian philosophy, polarity therapy, the elements, the gunas, and many other subjects.Highly reccommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow
Having met Bruce in person and experienced his personal brilliance and the compassionate nature of his work, I would say this book is a must have for any esoteric minded person. The book covers a huge variety of topics all of which I have found utterly profound. Most of the pages could be read over and over again to soak up the cosmic/myopic insight and awareness dripping from the text. This is not just one mans words, but a infinite reflection of wisdom gathered from all corners of the world.Nothing is left out except personal application of this knowledge tomanifest its wisdom and reward. Thank you Bruce. ... Read more
