5-0 out of 5 stars A Review by: Catherine MacDonald, author of "Heaven Knows"
"What we think and what we eat - combined together - make what we are, physically and mentally, (Edgar Cayce reading 288-38)When "Nourishing the Body Temple" first arrived in my home, I placedit on the bottom of my reading pile, and sighed, "another book onnutrition." I have read many, and have a good collection in mypersonal library, so I was in no rush to read yet another. It was a fewdays later at our local (Edgar Cayce) Search for God study group, that thebook was brought back to my attention. It was the talk of the group."Wonderful book, beautifully executed, fantastic collection ofnutritional insights, easy to read, everything I always wanted toknow," were a few of the excited comments.Well, with thatintroduction, I had to elevate the book to the top of my reading pile.Andas I have discovered, well it should have been. The Cayce readingsgave the world an unprecedented source of insights on how food energiesinteract with body, mind and spirit to create health or illness; SimoneGabbay has assembled these for us in this wonderful collection ofnutritional guidelines and cooking instructions and complemented them withher own expertise as a professional nutritionist.Simone has given us acomprehensive diet and nutritional guide explaining topics such as enzymes,pH balance, vitamins, minerals, food combining, vegetarian diet and food asmedicine. She has included helpful information on fats and oils, cookingmethods and the alkaline diet so often referred to in the Cayce readings. To quote from the book, "The task of sustaining the body, throughproper nutrition and other measuers, thus becomes a spiritualresponsibility. It becomes a goal fueled by the sacred purpose ofempowering the soul --the God-self of each individual -- to more perfectlyexpress and experience the full spectrum of its divine attributes". The Cayce readings tell us that we should have reasonable concern for ourdiet, as in reading 1909-2 "The diet - as the body sees andunderstands - is as necessary (an) element as any that may be chosen. Asthe body builds mentally, so may the body build physically by the choice ofthose foods or valuations from same that will sustain or maintain - thatproper relationship between mental, a spiritual, and even physical forcesin same." I personally wish to thank Simone for giving us thiswonderful spiritual and practical guide to nutrition. Now, when adiscussion arises in our family about foods and methods of cooking, we havea standard quip, "What does Simone say?" Then out comes the book, now our kitchen bible, and we look it up.Recently, our family had a greatdebate about what solid food our baby grandson should be started on. Inunison came, "What does Simone say?"Simone gives us a wholechapter on "Nutritional Needs for Special Times andCircumstances". Wonderfully insightful and, surprise; one of the firstsolid foods for baby is the yolk from a soft boiled egg.I never wouldhave guessed that one. This is a book that you have to read for yourselfto appreciate its value. It has something for everyone. Thank you Simonefor "Nourishing the Body Temple", your gift to all of us. GodBless..... ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed with Kemper
I was very excited to buy this book.I have found it very useful as a mother of 4 and as a pediatric nurse practioner student.I was hoping that K. Kemper took a more intelligent and open perspective on vaccinations.Despite over 11,000 adverse advents reported each year from vaccines, scientific research showing that thimerosol caused neurodevelopmental delays, and MMR causing thrombocytopenia, orchitis, seizures, and many other problems, Kemper refuses to budge on her pro vaccine stance.I believe her experience with public health has enforced her belief that vaccines be inflicted on all despite their complications.Other than this fundamental disagreement with the author, I liked the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Guide to avoiding the doctors office
I got the first edition of this book nearly 5 years ago when my first born was an infant. It has been incredibly useful for avoiding the doctor - who usually can't really help anyway, or wants to prescribe antibiotics too frequently.Children often run the risk of getting something even worse than what they have by a visit to the doctor's office. This book is a guide for what to do with certain situations. It helped me to make my children more comfortable while a virus ran its course. This book gave me confidence to know that I was doing that best thing for my kids and gave guidelines for when to go to the doctor.
1-0 out of 5 stars Lacks balance
The heading states that this book is a comprehensive guide for safe and effective therapies for childhood illnesses, though it is seriously lacking. Kemper has no experience with homeopathy so she just gives us the usual "it doesn't work" jibe.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A book to be experienced, not merely read
This book will be an eye opener for those who put all their faith in drugs and underestimate the power of the mind and heart to heal. Dr. Miller discusses effective techniques (relaxation, guided imagery, etc.) for tapping our inner resources to bring about psychological as well as physical changes that support healing. He also explains clearly in layman's terms, the rationale behind his methods. The stories that led to the development of mind-body medicine are told with warmth and humor. This is the kind of book to read over and over again--with each reading, new insights come to mind. It has changed my approach to health and to life by giving me a sense of empowerment, by teaching me to use my mind in new and positive ways. It will probably do the same for anyone who reads it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Insights for all of us
Unfortunatly I have had a number of my friends diagnosed with cancer over the past few years as well as friends who lost their spouses to cancer. This is particularly poingnant as they are all in the 5-30 year age range. Fortunatly I have had the oppertunity to be there and try to be of help tothem their journey - fortuneatly because they have thought me so much aboutwhat is really important in life and to be grateful for the simple giftsand pleasures of the everyday.I've read quite a number of books onpsychoneuro immunology including books by Bernie Seigal, Norman Cousins andDeepak Chopra. While I've been inspired by most of the other books"Journey's with the Cancer Conquorer" seems to be a clear andsimple (not easy) complilation of all the other material plus it is a greatworkbook/thought generator that provokes one to examine their motives andactions which then leads one to reconsidor choices made out of habit or onautopilot. One comes to understand oneself and then work from a place ofself-understanding. I feel this book is beneficial to everyone and aspecial gift to someone who is traveling the "cancer journey". Two particular insights I enjoyed: 1. Cancer is not a noun it is a verb"cancering", a process of growth.2. Recurance is not a deathsentence. It is the only book I remember dealing with recurance in apractical and realistic light. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars and "the beat" goes on....
An outstanding book for discoverying and understanding the power and spirit of a pulsing, steady beat. As a frustrated Drummer trying to get a workout, I found this book in my search to understand and explain the hypnotic rhythm created by speed bag punching, and this book enlightened me to several reasons that I (and others I teach) are so drawn to the pulsing bag beat. This book simply explains why what makes the "beat go on" inside us all. This was a refreshing read for a long time drummer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Drumming - and much more
I love this book. There are a number of brief papers which discuss important ideas and concepts, but my favorites are the little poems, or aphorisms.Maybe two or three to a page, they conjure up images, pose questions or set in motion trains of thought that really get to the heart of why the creative arts are so important to our life, health and general well-being.5-0 out of 5 stars Inspirational
This book is about more than just drumming. It shows how you can use music to help yourself and those round you. Diamond's approach is a unique, and combines philosophy with psychology and numerous other modalities. The writing ranges from the philosophical to practical suggestions and it has been a great inspiration to me in using music to enhance my life. One wonderful aspect to his approach is that anybody can do it--it's all about intention, not technique. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars AN EXCELLENT READ FROM A DOCTOR KNOWN FOR WISE HEALTH PRACTICES
IN A NUTSHELL:
5-0 out of 5 stars How to stay healthy and live longer.
Dr. Stephen Sinatra is a board-certified cardiologist who has thoroughly researched the true causes of the diseases which plague modern Americans, including various forms of heart disease plus cancer and various degenerative diseases. He has discovered that most of these diseases are caused by faulty eating habits and lack of certain essential nutrients. This excellent book discusses these and other factors in highly-readable terms. If you read this book and implement the simple factors which it recommends you can improve your health and add healthy years to your life. That seems very worthwhile to me. I hope that it does to you too. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent introduction to Paracelsus
Having read Jung's glowing praises of Paracelsus, as well as various accounts of his amazing life, I was very excited to read this book to get a better idea what his actual writings are like. This selection of excerpts is alternately enjoyable and baffling, since Paracelsus was a very complicated thinker with enormous ambitions, and it appears from these excerpts that his reach often exceeds his grasp. He takes an encyclopedic approach to explaining everything about the science of his day as he understood it, completely mingled with his personal theology. The Paracelsian universe is saturated with living and breathing forces, stars influencing everything but in very strange ways that seem to contradict each other, and the inner light of nature leaving signs strewn about everywhere for the enlightened person to interpret. It's rather daunting to read that you really can't just use a particular herb to cure something, because you have to choose the right herb at the right time to fit the current astrological environment as it relates to the person requiring healing. All very heady stuff, and it might be easy to dismiss Paracelsus as a wooly-headed dreamer except for the known historical facts about his rather heroic life, and his reputation for expending great amounts of energy helping the poor.Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Beware! This Guy Is a Fraud
The author, Christopher Hansard, is a charlatan, having cooked up a fantasy background for himself, which claims some mystical Tibetan lineage. All very colourful, but complete fiction, aimed to convince the gullible and make money by adopting Tibetan credentials. The guy is a fake.

5-0 out of 5 stars New Insights on Modern Disease
Inflammation is the result of infection by germs, right? Only partly, according to Dr. Nancy Appleton -- in a completely new insight she shows how inflammation, triggered by hitherto unsuspected agencies, can also CAUSE disease.
4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent, But....
Nancy Appleton does an excellent job of explaining the new research that's come out about Inflammation this last year. And there is a chapter by an MD/ND who speaks to the current state of health for most people in their 30s.Being 20 yrs older than that, I can see the change in health status so many experience.Environmental Illness is the cause of much of it.Unfortunately the recommendations in Chapter 8 to Detoxify are sorely out-of-date, and will not help seriously ill people very much.Serious allergy relief is not found.Energy Medicine addresses this fairly well, but is never mentioned.A very useful tool is at the end of the book: Body Chemistry Test Kit.Still worth the read and the price. ...
