5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST for Energy Workers
Anyone working in holistic healing in regard to energy work will benefit greatly from this "classic" reference in their library. Just the pictures alone are enough to learn from. This is a "must have" for all energy workers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent tutorial
The author of this book is an amazing healer. There are not many like her in this world and her book is on my number one list of recommendations for anyone who wants to learn energetic healing. I use her techniques in my healing classes. I have a great respect for her work even though I have never met her!
5-0 out of 5 stars Deepen your self-knowledge
I first read this book many years ago and it is one of the few I keep in my library. It has excellent information about energy healing. I especially learned a lot from the descriptions and information about the personality types. Most books address types in terms of psychology only, but this book adds the spiritual and energetic dimensions.Hands of Light greatly deepened my self-knowledge and helped me understand others better as well.An important book for spiritual awareness. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars You've got to read this book!
I received this book as a gift. There are quite a few books on this subject on the market and this one is the best. I too could not put it down and finished it in 3 days. It's a huge book, a great resource that is well researched and written.. I have a few friends who've purchased this book and really loved it too. I can highly recommend this book
5-0 out of 5 stars A beautiful and complete collection of expert yoga information
I am a complete beginner to yoga...less than 6 months of practice and I'm 64 years old... Even with an excellent yoga teacher and a once a week class, I felt I needed some type of guide so I could do yoga at home.Videos went too fast for me and often I'd be unable to see the TV from the floor.. This book was absolutely perfect....as yogarequires a lot of practice in order to become more limber and competent. After taking many different yoga books out of the library and this being one of them, I felt I had to own it because this was the only book where I could find a specific pose, read exactly what to do (and what not to do), see beautiful photographs of someone doing the pose and adapt any of the poses to my own level by adding my own props.
5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely love this book!!
The book is full of illustrations. So its very easy to follow. Best of all it works. I've saved more than $300 on visits to the physician by following this book. Believe me its worth the investment. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars A good book with a mixed result

5-0 out of 5 stars Opens up a world of herbal options for optimal health
I like the way this book lists herbal remedies side by side with conventional medical treatments. It's useful to see your options laid out like that. I like the organization. It's easy to find what you need. I also like that one of the authors has an M.D. it's encouraging to see that a traditionally trained doctor sees the value of phytomedicinals. The book is organized by health problems. Under each heading, there is a listing of herbal as well as conventional remedies, as well as a paragraph describing how each remedy works. This method of organization makes much more sense than listing herbs alphabetically, especially for someone who's in a hurry to find something. I only just received the book from amazon.com, but I can already foresee that I will use it often. I only wish they had made the book bigger and printed it on nicer paper. Oh well...you can't have everything, I guess.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book
There are so many books out there on pregnancy and birth. Most of them discuss the physical/medical aspects and what to expect at those levels.I read a variety of books in preparation for birth and in my opinion this is THE book to read in order to prepare mentally for birth (which is no less important than understanding the medical aspects). When I first got this book, I started reading it and then stopped because I didn't feel like doing some of the more artsy exercises and I read over some other exercises without really thinking them through.Luckily, my husband took this book to our vacation to Costa Rica and started reading me select parts.Reading and discussing the exercises together made all the difference.I would highly recommend reading through this with someone close (preferably your partner or labor coach).Though this book is particularly helpful for someone who wants a drug-free birth, I think also women who plan to take an epidural can benefit from it since there is a lot of mental preparedness that can make labor easier while you're still at home or before you can get the epidural.I practiced the pain-coping exercises with the ice cube as suggested in the book and that made me feel well prepared. In the end, what helped the most was co-chanting which I never would have thought of if I hadn't read about it in this book.So I feel that it's helpful to have a myriad of techniques to cope since you don't know what'll help the most.
5-0 out of 5 stars Pam England is a gem! Great practical guide.
Good practical advice and excercises that can help prep you for the birthing process, whether you're going natural or assisted.

5-0 out of 5 stars Need to heal from a traumatic birthing experience? Then get this book!
If you're going to build your birthing library with only a handful of titles, make this one of them. I found it tremendously supportive, especially because I was considering a VBAC and the author's experience of a first "failed" vaginal birth hit home with me. Her honesty healed a huge loneliness that I had been experiencing with the disappointment surrounding my unplanned cesarean with my first birth. I hadn't expected to find a book that dealt first with my fears around childbirth, and then with my disappointment about how my first birth had gone. THIS BOOK IS CHEAPER THAN THERAPY, you won't regret it from that aspect alone!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Resource!
I have searched long and hard for a reference book and this was a great resource.I have read many books on nutritional supplementation and have studied nutrition for many years. This book has a lot of good information in it.What I found though is you must continue to research and keep education yourself with supplemental information.I found another great resource on Inner Health that was very impressive at librarydepot.comIt contained a Nutrition Benefits Chart that is unlike anything on the market. It links nutritional support needed to many diseases/disorders.

5-0 out of 5 stars ABSOLUTELY WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!
This is a book you will use. this is a book you will want your doctor to read, preferably own. It will take the person who is not familiar w/ many alternative care methods and supplements and "baby step" you you through them w/out dumbing anything down or being tedious.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Acid Alkaline Balance Diet
I will be forever grateful to the author for all the time she put into researching and writing this book. Because of my acidic problem, I have kidney stones. The medication did not help, and am now in Stage 4 kidney failure. With this alkaline diet, and low protein, I have been able to maintain my stage 4. If doctors would only make everyone more aware, we could follow the balanced diet and live healthy.

5-0 out of 5 stars What an eye-opener!
The author describes the psyche of the food binger in such haunting and graphic terms that I feel that she is describing my own state of mind when I'm binging. She also describes the physical state of the body that causes the appetite to go out of control and whar to do about it.
2-0 out of 5 stars Was rather disappointed
Although I'm not a professional, I have read extensively in the area of health, nutrition, molecular biology, etc.If I am to believe the bulk of material written by researchers & scientists, doctors and naturopathic professionals, then I'd have to say that there is a fair amount of misinformation and not-quite-right "facts" presented in this book. After having read about a quarter of the book, I had come across so many items that don't quite agree with the latest generally accepted knowledge that I lost heart for finishing the book. While the overall presentation is basically valid and the lifestyle recommendations are good, I wouldn't recommend this book to someone who doesn't have the knowledge to sort out or at least question and verify which information is valid and what should be ignored. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Agree, But Disagree
I have purchased every edition of this book since it first came out as a much slimmer volume. The problem is, everyone thinks they should take all the vitamins, minerals and herbs explained in the book to get better.I suspect the title, "Prescription..." is the catch, as Americans especially believe in prescriptions for quick fixes.I agree with Byrnes' review up to a point. He suggests we should go to a therapist such as himself to REALLY learn what we should and shouldn't take.I know several dozen alternative "therapists" who believe they know the answers, most of them believe they were thoroughly educated in massage school or through reflexology certifications. No doubt they know more than the average layman, but most know just about nothing.I would recommend this book to anyone who feels a little better being educated about the many aspects of disease and cures that we hear about, and caution them to use it only as an educational tool and a basic resource. For optimal education, add this to your collection of Andrew Weil, Louise Hay, Rayna Gangi, and Deepak Chopra. Only then will you be able to discern and find the appropriate therapist.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book
This book is the most comprehensive book I have read.It truly helps the newbies that are interested in pilates.I have a better understanding of my body and it has helped me truly understand pilates and how it affects my body, not just my core.I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in pilates.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must read!!!
Pelvic Power is an awesome book to read and apply to your life. My once awful sciatica is now non-existent thanks to proper care and the aid of this book. I found areas in my pelvic floor region that needed attention that normally dancers don't even think about during our careers!! THe flexibility and control is remarkable and the results are immediate. I look forward to enjoying a very ahppy married life in the future, LOL!!

5-0 out of 5 stars best exercise book purchase ever
This book has helped me more than a very expensive pelvic floor workshop I attended which just taught me how to become tense. These are the best fourteen bucks I have spent in exercise literature. The book has to be slowly digested and paced to fully grasp the content. The explanations are simple and the visuals are wonderful, but the simplicity is deceptive: the subtle movements require complete calm and focus. I have a lot of problems around the pelvic/hip/lumbar region and these exercises are a treasure to me. I feel I have only started taping into the benefits they can bring if done correctly. I keep coming back to the book and the exercises again and again. Totally recommended! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars MindBody Fitness for Dummies
This book wins the"fitness relevance" award for being virtually the first to apolitically and respectfully describe the major mindful exercise modalities that exist in the West today - in one concise volume. There are hundreds of yoga, tai chi, Pilates, martial arts and derivative publications today each extolling the papal and fitness-related virtues of their own species of mind-body exercise. Therese has put together a utilitarian compendium of the classical and contemporary forms, yes in somewhat abstract form, but always with skillful instruction and quite meaningful resources. This is a wonderfully organized reference for those desiring a wide-angle and descriptive view of the major players in mind-body exercise modalities. ... Read more

Queen Afua has produced a book that changes your lifestyle. Men do not be afraid it's for us also. All the tools for transformation are present and fit any religious path you are on. Thank you my Queen for being a light in a dark world.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is phenomenal in every way imaginable!
This is my one of my favorite books of all time. I read this book as much as I read my Bible and that is daily. I am constantly referring to it as a source for healing and daily remedies. This book gives me comfort and uplifts my spirit. I think that Queen Afua is wonderful. I discovered this book from a friend when I was only 25 and I have followed her percepts as closely as I can for over 6 years and I am delighted. 5-0 out of 5 stars Does She Know Shes An Angel?
It often seems like an accident but the spirit always leds us to where we need to be. I found Queen Afua's book under a stack of dusty books in a book store some years ago. After reading this book four times, I think I amfinally on the path to healing. This, of course, is a blessing. Only anangel sent from God could cause the healing of a people and that is what Ithink we will all find at the end of our journey if we just follow theteachings of this very wise, and open soul. Thank you, Queen Afua, verymuch, for sharing this book with the world and reminding us that allanswers are always within. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars WORD GAMES
AGELESS BODY is Deepak's attempt to neutralize the word "old" as in old age.The writer has a knack for making common words, like "body, "mind" and "self," into profound concepts. His technique is to overlay his abstract ideas with suggestive experimental studies. But ambiguity in interpreting these studies abound.
3-0 out of 5 stars To Live To Eternity...
How would it feel to live forever; could you feel young when your body looks old.Your body is aging beyond your control because it has been programmed to live out the rules of collective conditioning. What you need is the body/mind connection.Beginning at age 30, the average human body starts to come unhinged: wrinkles appear, skin loses tone and freshness, muscles sag, fat catches up with muscle, eyesight and hearing taper off.As the bones thin and become brittle and break easily, stamina and endurance decline. You just can't do the things you are used to doing. To transform the patterns of the past, you must know what they are made of and how to stop the progress of deterioration. 4-0 out of 5 stars Good book that details Holistic approach to living longer

5-0 out of 5 stars Never Sick anymore
Dr. Chopra is personally responsible for my complete change in beliefs on being sick. In his book, he states clearly and simply that the natural state of the body is health, not illness. And after reading that, something in my mind locked onto it, believed it and for the last 10 years my body has been living it! I no longer think I need to be sick to build antibodies to various diseases, I simply allow my body to be healthy- even in the midst of coughing and wheezing people. It is a mindset for which I am extremely grateful! A highly valuable read.

Now, I am not really a fan of Deepak Chopra, but if this is the level of your scientific knowledge, you hardly have any right to make statements about Dr. Chopras lack or otherwise of scienticic knowledge!
5-0 out of 5 stars Not Nonsense - some miss the point
To those reviewers that claim this book is nonsense are completely missing the point. In my opinion the author is expanding traditional Western thinking around healing. Not that we can actually study and manipulate the quantum level of our own bodies, but rather entertain new ways of enhancing our own healing through the power of our own mindsRead more

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth Purchasing for the Diet Info Alone
What a great book.Clear, common-sense advice on keeping your mind healthy through natural approaches. The diet-related information is worth its weight in gold.I would highly recommend this book to anyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars A broader view of depresssion
Excellent book.A multi-disciplinary view of depression, it looks beyond drug and talk therapy without denying their importance.Emmons studied, practices, and writes about other approaches to depression, such as diet, supplements, exercise, Ayurvedic (historical Indian) medicine and the Buddhist psychological/emotional types. This provides a deeper and broader understanding and treatment of depression.A richly woven text.

5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful tool for regular folk and for professionals
As a mindfulness meditation teacher and a spiritual mentor, I am keeping copies of The Chemistry of Joy in my office. I have already recommended the book to numerous friends and family members. Some of the highlights for me: 1) the gentle, clear way that Dr. Emmons reminds us readers that there are many doors to healing, that it is good to open the door that moves most easily for us first, and that it is often through making one or two adaptations on a number of levels that we begin to experience life as having more comfort to it; 2) the empowerment that comes from having this kind and seasoned psychiatrist steadily reminding us to believe in our deeper self; 3) the way desperation is allayed as one realizes that brain chemistry correlates with two ancient wisdom systems from other parts of the globe- ah, what a balm for the isolation that one can feel on this difficult journey to relieve depression. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!
The Hakomi Method, created by Ron Kurtz, is a beautifully constructed experiential therapeutic process which incorporates the best of the last 100 or so years of psychotherapeutic study. It integrates Taoist and Buddhist Principles with Western Theory and the Body-Centered Wisdom of Alexander Lowen, John Pierrakos, Hector Prestera and others.I've been a therapist for over 16 years and the Hakomi Method has now become the main influence inmy work. Ron's five principles: Mindfulness, Non-violence,Organicity, Unity and Mind-Body Wholism, insure not only change in a person's behavioral patterns, but in their soul as well. It is creative, effective and heartfelt. It is a pleasure to practice therapy this way. I highly recommend this book for anyone in the healing professions. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Book for Famlies with Children
Who would have thought that mixing a mashed banana with two very common kitchen ingredients would help with a little girl's cough? Or, that a tea containing cinnamon combined with two other tasty kitchen spices would reduce a little boy's fever?
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent reference for common ailments
For common ailments like sore throat, constipation, headaches.. ayurveda works wonderfully. Why spend $20 co-pay to your physician for these ailments when you can get the cure in your kitchen (e.g. honey, pepper, milk.. ). Its worth it!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy this book!
This book is well written and the author comes across as someone who truly cares.I've been into herbalism for a long time and decided to check into ayurvedic home remedies,I've had more relief from my pain in the past few weeks than I've had in years.Ayurvedic home remedies(all natural)teaches that you have to change your diet along with proper excersize..and the proper ayurvedic herbs that fits your constitution, does'nt that make sense.Just taking an herb without healthy living changes is not going to do all that much. It's important that you keep an open mind while reading this book, research the herbs if you are sceptical.Ayurvedic has been around for about five thousand years ,so I think you could say it's tried and true. This approach is much better than what some of the drug companies are putting out.Read the book!I keep going back to it again and again, however it's always best to work in concert with your Doctor. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A good beginning for the study of health
I am studying to be a certified nutritionist and this is the textbook for my first class.I have found this book to be very thorough, yet consise and to the point. The information is pertinent and up-to-date. The authors take a holistic approach and the book covers diet, healthy lifestyle choices, emotional health and well being, as well as important information on body functions. It isn't overly technical (which is nice for a beginner) but provides enough detail. I recommend it as an introduction to learning about nutrition or health. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Eye opening and a blessing for your life
I truly agree with the review written by M. Savoie "waxnwane" (Bound Brook, NJ USA). I add that this book is like an owner's manual for the human body. I, too, went to a Holistic Massage School, and I thank the powers that be that I got this book from them! I am learning things from this book that I have not found (written or spoken) anywhere else. It is easy to use, and most of the ingredients can be found in your local grocery store (for the cleanses). I keep this book in plain site in my home, and anyone who asks me gets overwhelmed by my response. If you buy no other "health" book than this one, you have purchased the best one! Someone had to do it .... THANK YOU ELSON M. HAAS for writing this book!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A great Guide
This is an easy book to read no complicated words just right to the point no misguiding information, plus it has everything you need from top to bottom. This is a reference book that I think is great for people who wish to learn about the 5 elements and chinese medicine. I recommend it to all types of people.

5-0 out of 5 stars User-Friendly and Empowering Book of Healing
I discovered this book as it was part of my curriculum in Holistic Massage Therapy School. But it is applicable to anyone who is looking to learn about holistic health self-care.Based on the Chinese 5-Element theory, Staying Healthy With The Seasons explores the particular energies, meridians, organs, moods, strongpoints and pitfalls of each season. It is easy to read, and pick and choose which ideas you like and would like to incorporate into new habits to try. There are so many ideas for each season, ranging from dietary cleansing, to mental patterns, to holistic bodywork recommended for the season, that you are bound to find some ideas that really appeal to you where you are now, and others you may like to try later.
