3-0 out of 5 stars Okay, but lacking
Used for a developmental psychology class, this book wasn't worth the $94.00 I paid for it. I could have easily substituted this book for any introductory psychology textbook. Piaget, Kolberg, Erikson, and Freud are hardly touched on and their theories are under-summarized. There is also a lack of relevant, current studies in the area of developmental psychology. Most studies are summarized and do not give any usable, substaintial evidence which could be used elsewhere (ex: in papers).

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent text
I have taught (and taken) courses in Child Development and Lifespan Development with numerous textbooks, and this was definitely my favorite. The text is exceptionally thorough and includes a balance of theory and application.Relevant research is discussed throughout, in a way that is interesting and engaging and emphasizes the importance of scientific rigor in studying development. Most of all I appreciate the personal, direct voice of the text, as if I am listening to the author talk. Some other texts actually make reading about lifespan development boring (hard to do but can be done!)This one very effectively illuminates how fascinating it can be.My only criticism might be that I found it very difficult to cover the entire text in a one semester class, precisely because it is so rich in information. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars An Important Book for Caregives
There are many books on how to care and plan for an elderly person, but this is one of the few designed to deal with the often delicate issue of communicating about those plans. This is an excellent book for anyone caring for seniors, either as a family member or in a professional capacity. I am a legal aid hotline attorney and own an online medical supply business. In both capacities I work with many seniors and those who care for them. This book fills in an important gap in the caregiving relationship.I strongly recommend it.

4-0 out of 5 stars How to Say it to Seniors
Very helpful and accessable information.Wish I'd learned about this years ago.

5-0 out of 5 stars Humane, wise, practical...SUPERB
It's shocking that this book is being marketed merely to professionals who must deal with the vagaries of the senior personality. It's simply the best book on the subject I've read. The author has a huge heart for seniors and those who work with them--professionals, certainly, but also neighbors, friends, children, grandchildren.

1-0 out of 5 stars Racist, Sexist, Dismissive of Anything but Biology
Feldman's "well-researched" book is a classic human development book, written from a rich white man's view. He does very little to express race and gender as anything but biology. These two things are sociological constructs in addition to being somewhat biologically based. In my world, half-truths are still lies. This book has a lot of pictures of people from different cultures, with different phenotypes, et cetera. It does not walk the walk or talk the talk of a socially responsible take on human development and psychology. For instance he uses Freud to speak of gender roles- a man who named an entire stage of human development after the penis. Just a poor read overall. It felt like going back to high school biology class. Not much more than a survey book.

1-0 out of 5 stars Wrong edition
I was not pleased with the item received - it was supposed to be the 4th Edition, however I received the 3rd Edition.I did buy a new one and received credit for this, however it took longer than expected to finally get the correct book/edition.

5-0 out of 5 stars Concise with current views on life development psychology.
I used this book in our Life Development Psychology. In the course of my study, everything I needed to know is in the book. Feldman is very thorough and organized. I have read other books on this subject in our library but by far this is a superior book. This book deserves 5 stars. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A must read for everyone!
In a fast-paced society that thrives on junk food, any man and woman should know the extensive role hormones play in their bodies. Hormones regulate all the important activities in our bodies and Dr. Schwarzbein explains what disastrous effect an overly-busy lifestyle and bad eating habits have on your body, effect that will eventually translate into disease and maybe even early death. I really think everyone should read this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars if reading one, read this one
I've read all her books - really wanted the info but it was overwhelming for me and the nutrition/hormone testing part was complex.Great info - read the Transition II book if reading only one of her books!I'm feeling better than in a long time!

4-0 out of 5 stars Sounds like a great plan for optimal health!
Schwarzbein Principle-The Program is the first book of the three that I picked up and I later found that it is a summation of both books one and two.I believe that, although this is her third book, it was for the best that I read this one first since I was then able to decide whether the approach as a whole suited me.I decided that I very much want to change my lifestyle including my eating habits, exercise, stress and hormone levels.

1-0 out of 5 stars One of the worst study guides
It is a shame that my copy was not proofread. There are numerous incorrect answers.I had to spend double the time to find all the correct answers. It upsets me that I spent so much money to help me and it created more work for me.I don't think that I will be purchasing another study guide from this publisher in the future. It had the potential to be a great study guide had more attention been taken when it was released.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
This book is required reading for my current graduate class: Human Growth & Development. It is a great book that provides in-depth info about human development throughout the lifespan. What's especially helpful is that every life stage is neatly broken down into seperate chapters, and every chapter details the impact of biological, psychological, and social factors on growth. This bookwill definitely help in understanding the process of growth and change in your own life.

4-0 out of 5 stars I used this book for my Dev. Psych class
The chapters are long, about 40 pages each, but I found this book to be excellent for examining the development through the lifespan. If you could see my copy, it's underlined all over the place, there's some great material in this book. I am considering having children and will definately refer to this book if and when I do. It basically tells you how to NOT mess up your kids! ... Read more

Comprehensive but specific, easy to read, full of good ideas, practical advice, and stories to illustrate points.A gem of a book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Book on Retirement
I felt compelled to submit this review after reading the comment about the book having too much info.Indeed, that is the exact thing I thought was best about the book - the authors obviously are very familiar with all that is our there on retirement and condensed (at almost 500 pages, it's hard to say "condensed"!)it into one excellent book. It has saved me both time and money. The websites, checksheets, and specific recommendations with honest appraisals of places to consider for relocation are invaluable. The chapters on finances and tax are also outstanding (I have a business background), and the info about psychology, health, working, and travel contribute to make it a comprehensive book.
3-0 out of 5 stars The book is so comprehensive it's superficial

5-0 out of 5 stars They Work!
These exercises work. No question about it - they really work. I'm 40 and was starting to notice the old age droop in my cheek and eye muscles as well as the characteristic bulge from untoned tongue muscles. Within one week of doing these exercises I noticed significant improvement. The cheek droop line is tightening up and receding. The muscles of my eyes and forehead have tightened up and lifted again. What's more, unlike with Carol Maggio's book, these exercises gave me a way to do these exercises without creating new wrinkles - a big reason why I stopped the exercises from Maggio's book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book, usable instructions!
In this book I found what I was looking for. It has excellent pictures, clear instructions, explanation of how our face ages, specific exercises for the different areas of the face, and the goal of each exercise. I especially like using my "will" to get my face muscles to move. Although I don't do the exercises consistently every day, I see progress anyway. I was able to tighten my cheek muscles so that my cheek dimple, which had sort of slid down toward my jaw, is now higher on my face. Cute! There are some exercises that I can do at my desk at work, which I like. Great book for those who want to know WHY the exercise works.

3-0 out of 5 stars Face Exercises that prevent premature Aging

5-0 out of 5 stars Stirring Art
Etta Clark scores with Growing Old is Not For Sissies II.Her book is filled with beautiful photography and a second look at some of the subjects from her first book. With frank honesty, she captures the essence of her subjects once again. An excellent book of art for any fan of photography.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must for Anyone Working in Gerontology
This book is a must for anyone who works with older adults. It is a photographic essay of some very special people....people who embrace the robustness of life, and who are disciplined to maintain their capabilities as long as possible. Our world is steeped in ageism, that is, believing that older people are only capable of doing things that are "appropriate" for their age. This book shatters those beliefs and provides living examples of people who continue doing what they love to do physically.I wish that Etta Clark would revise this book with a new set of photos every year!I have seen some of these photos over and over again in lectures that people give about aging. It is a book to be owned, not borrowed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Indispensable guide to those of us who have reached 50
Trafford combines her own life experience, the personal stories of many typical Americans whom she has interviewed, and psychological research in constructing this guide for the later years of life. These days, age 50 is only the beginning of life for many people whose children are grown, whose careers are set, and whose health is good. Many Americans will have 30 years or more in this new stage of life. Not all of them will sail around the world or start a new career helping battered women, but most or all will make changes in their lives. This book is her guide to making the most of these years.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book
By giving you an understanding of how the person with alzheimers views their world, this book helps the caregiver make life a little easier, happier, and more meaningful. It also reduces the stress and frustration of the caregiver because you gain knowledge of how to handle situations that before were a struggle.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for anyone touched by dementia
Jolene Brackey spoke at the nursing home where I work with patients with dementia. She is an incredible speaker and author. This book has so many wonderful ideas for nursing home workers and people who have loved ones with dementia. It is very reader-friendly and easy to understand. Jolene includes many real life examples to illustrate her ideas. She has a sense of humor and a sense of compassion that radiates with every chapter. I've used her ideas and had amazing success in my job. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn how to appreciate people with dementia. ... Read more

What I like well in this book is the numerous tables, the questionnaires and the lists that summarize the essential data in each chapter.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Hormone Solution: Stay Younger Longer With Natural ....
I found this book to be well organized and easy to read and understand. There is a wealth of information about the role of hormones in the body, and the consequences of not having enough as you age.I enjoyed the detailed explanation of the function of each hormone. At the end of each section, Dr. Hertoghe adds a one page table of a condensed version of his recommendations for easy reference. That makes the book very user friendly. The book has information that is revelant to older and middle aged people, as well as people in their twenties.I thought I could share this book with my sister, but we both like it so much as a reference that we had to buy another one. Thanks to Dr. Hertoghe for shedding light on so many hormonal changes associated with getting older. Can't live without it anymore! ... Read more
